Darla didn't know why Marker gave her the necklace. He'd placed it around her neck and told her that when the baddest of the bad came, she'd was to show this to the guys who worked at the gas station by the highway. At seven, she'd never dreamed that she'd ever need its magic protection. But when the gunshots woke her in the middle of the night, and she saw her mother's body in the living room, Darla knew she had nowhere else to go. The men were rough and scary, and their reputation was even worse than her mother's, but they took her in without hesitation. Now she was wrapped up in a deal she barely understood. Falling for a man who scared her in all the right ways. But the biggest surprise was yet to come for the Saint.
I read this book based on multiple reader recommendations and I'm so glad I did! I love the story and the characters! It kept me captivated throughout. This is the first book I've read by this author and hope to discover more! There are a few spelling/ grammatical error, but nothing that distracts you from reading.
The author warned in the beginning of this book that her writing was for fun and not to judge on the lack of editing ... I overlooked the errors and absolutely loved it! Thank you Maxine Keith!
I had seen that there was only one other review said there were typos with a good story.
I would say there was a lot of typos with a decent read. This seemed like story took forever. There was no relationship growth between Bouncer and Saint. The poor girl, and I’m gonna emphasize girl as she’s just barely 18, is repeatedly sexually assaulted in this book and only the last time does anyone do anything. There is no mention of her healing or getting help for all of the trauma she experienced. The ending really could have been better.
I just don’t see this book as a romance. More of a lust, sex, machismo, abuse book.
This was a rough book to read. Saint is very damaged woman just trying to be safe and survive. But at time seemed to be two people sometimes. And the club was rough but had a good side at times. The book had its ups and downs and I had to push through to finish. Well written but not a favorite of mine or want to revisit
It was a good read. The story line was dark and could be triggering for some readers The main characters were flawed but there was good growth and redemption. Some editing for wrong word choice and spelling would be appreciated. The errors were a bit distracting while reading. That is the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars. Overall an enjoyable book.
Definitely not your typical MC. Darla grew up as the town's doorknob daughter. Abused in every way, thought that it was she was good for. A twist helps show her that she's better than her upbringing. Some bumps, turns, and some violence, its all in here. There are some basic editing and proofreading mistakes, nothing that actually takes away from the story.
