Ava
When civilization first collapsed, survival replaced compassion.
Many dark years followed before I found a delicate peace within Sanctuary's walls.
But that was over now.
Standing on the desolate rooftop, I watched enemy soldiers take our community.
After three days on the streets with no provisions and nothing but a temperamental handgun to defend myself, I knew I was out of options.
That was when he found me, the killer with enough weapons to start a one-man war.

Nora
Life had gotten complicated long before my son was born.
It was a thousand times harder after.
The peaceful enclave, Sanctuary, offered hope until it became caught between two warring factions.
They turned it into a pile of rubble.
Now a new community awaited me.
One where women were owned.
I didn't like being around men, hated them, truth be told.
But I had to pick someone, so I picked him, the too young, too perceptive doctor who brought out the temper in me.
Why? Because he felt like the safe option.
As it turns out, the unassuming doctor wasn't quite what he seemed.

Publisher's note: Owned is a post-apocalyptic romance following two interlinked stories. It contains dark, explicit themes and power exchange.

4 Smut Scale Stars

I love apocalyptic smut. It acts as the perfect foundation for some of my favorite smut scenarios, e.g., forced pairings, dub con, you know, scenarios that are typically unsat in the most delicious ways.

I don’t know how this book flew under my radar for so long, but it came at exactly the right time and saved me from an epic book slump. So that’s a ringing endorsement if I ever heard one. The ending was a little messy, but overall I really enjoyed this one. I would love reading more set in this world.

4.5 Heaven Right Here, Right Now Stars ⭐

Sanctuary is no longer home. On borrowed time; it was inevitable they would be eventually conquered. However neither Ava nor Nora are prepared for when it actually happens. I thoroughly enjoyed the uniqueness of Owned. Two individuals stories woven into one. It was addictive.

The harsh reality of anarchy was that it cared little for who you once were. The good, the bad, the rich, and the poor held no context in the bounds of chaos.

With the fall of civilization, women are either owned or fair game. When military elite, Blaine stumbles across an unprotected Ava during a mission, self control is absent. Forget protocols and civility, he brands and claims her immediately. Now in his home, Ava has no defence against being owned by a lethal thug like Blaine. Yet even she can't deny how much she likes it. Gah the chemistry. 🔥🔥

“I’ve never been owned before. I don’t know what to do.” Her eyes met and held mine. “I don’t know how I’m supposed to act.”

Her words calmed my rage, some.

“I want it all,” I said. “I want you in my bed. And I want you fucking willing.”

Where Ava has always needed a champion, Nora holds it together for herself and her baby Adam. With Sanctuary defeated, her only thought is getting medical treatment for her son. And that happens to be in the form of Carter. Forced to also conform to the new existence, it sees her owned by the good doctor. Believing Carter to be amenable she's in for a shock because even she isn't immune to brains and brawn.

For reasons I could not explain, knowing that I was her owner, that I could have her in any way I wanted to, made everything hotter than hell.

This story was a realistic portrayal of a world succumbed to lawlessness. Fact. If men resorted to brute strength to get what they wanted, women would be screwed. Without too much violence and gore, Owned is exactly what I love in post apocalyptic romances. A gritty, kickass storyline and sensuality you feel down to your loins!!

If you love apocalyptic/dystopian romances with a dash of sci-fi, you're gonna love this one. This author has been hit or miss for me, and this by far is my favorite book Lane's written.

For a dark romance with power exchanges, it's pretty tame and non-rapey. (Not a complaint, just a statement.)
“I want you in my bed. And I want you fucking willing. Or I will find you someone else. If you’re staying in my home under my protection, then I will have my due.”
Told in four different POVs. The genetically altered military man, the mysterious woman without an ownership brand, the sexy young doctor with scars, and the single mother who despises men, until she has her infant son.
If I hated men, I hated their cocks more. There was a time when if the opportunity were given, I’d have liberated every living male of that wicked appendage.
M/F on page, F/F off page. Steamy steam, with that literal big dick alpha energy.
I growled. A full, back-of-the-throat growl like I was a fucking beast. “Baby, my cock is about to fill your perfect little pussy all up, and I don’t have gentle in me."
Be aware your feminist radar might go off at the notion of men branding, claiming and owning women. Overall, this fabulous story had a dark running theme with overlying tenderness. Somewhat predictable and cheesy ending, but I didn't even care. HEA for all.

* I need many more books set in this world. This one was so good, but left me with too many questions and needing so much more story. I wish this book had been broken up into two separate stories, Nora and Carter deserved their own book, as did Ava and Blaine. Also, I need Jodi's story yesterday. Holy kick-ass female, loved the brief glimpses we got of her.

Absofreakinglutely LOVED this story!

Set in a post apocalyptic landscape humanity is definitely different and choice is a luxury for most. Owned tells the story of two men and the women they “own.” It reminds us that humans are animals at their heart, only the strong or protected survive.

It’s packed with brutal action, amazing world building and sexual chemistry that almost melted my iPad! It’s the kind of story that had me smirking as I read, a great sign and I’ve got my fingers crossed that we get stories for more characters from this new civilisation.

Definitely recommend.

I received an arc of this book.

I feel like this book had a lot of potential and could have been better than it was. I love most of L.V. Lane’s books. This one was a little bit different than the others, which are all about Alpha’ and Omegas; this book is set in a dystopian, post apocalyptic world where women are owned by men. I really loved the world building and characters, but I think there was a lot of room for more.

My main issue is that I think this book tried to do too much, but instead ended up doing too little, with a lot of plot holes and unanswered questions. The book is told from four different POV’s of two different couples: Ava/Blaine and Nora/Carter. There was a lot of shifting between the POV’s and in such a short book, it was just too much back and forth. Just as I was getting into one of the couple’s stories, it would switch to a different POV and a different couple. Sometimes there were so many switches between the characters, it was hard to keep up and remember who’s POV you were reading from.

I actually think this could have been better if it had been broken up into 2 books - one book about Ava/Blaine and another about Nora/Carter. There was quite a bit of backstory with all of the characters that just wasn’t fleshed out because of the constant back and forth between the two couples. There’s almost no information about Nora and her previous “owner”, nothing about how Blaine met Taylor, nothing about how the war started or why, no information about these “enhancements” that everyone apparently had, why they had them or what they were, how did men come to “own” women and why did that happen... There was more than enough to fill up an entire full length novel about each couple, but instead the author tried to do too much by fitting all of this into a short novella about 2 different couples. There were so many unanswered questions that could have been addressed had this been 2 books, instead of one novella.

There really wasn’t too much about Nora or Carter at all. The majority of the book was about Ava and Blaine. Nora and Carter both had an interesting history and it was sad that it wasn’t fleshed out more. Because there was so little of Nora and Carter, their relationship felt forced to me. It seemed like they hardly spent any time together, they boned twice, and then all of a sudden they were in love?! It didn’t feel believable. I had no attachment to either of their characters, because there was just nothing to attach to.

Having read some of Ms. Lane’s other books, this one was actually pretty low on the smut scale! Her controller series was off the charts hot (Ethan, Ryker and Lilly’s books are to die for), but this book was actually pretty tame comparatively. I think Nora and Carter only boned twice in this book! It definitely could have used more sexy times!

I also wasn’t a huge fan of the romantic relationship between Ava and Jodi. Although there were no F/F sex scenes, I was uncomfortable with Ava and Jodi’s relationship. It didn’t fit with the story at all, in my opinion. Jodi was Ava’s bodyguard and protector from when she was young, she acted like a protective big sister and it was beyond bizarre that they used to be lovers! And again, maybe if there was more backstory about Ava and Jodi’s history, then their relationship would have made more sense, but as it was, the fact that they used to be lovers was just strange.

I do hope that this turns into a series. I think there’s a lot of room to expand on the story and fill in the blanks. I would love a book about Taylor and Ava’s mom!

Triggers and warnings*** contains spoilers
Owned is a bit of change for me and is a non-Omegaverse book. It follows two women, each in m/f relationships.
The warnings are for dub-con. It will probably feel light to anyone who has read my Omegaverse ;)
Plenty of steam, but it takes a few chapters to get there.
Other triggers:
The mention of past rapes (no actual scenes).
One FMC is in a f/f relationship when the story starts. (no scenes).

Owned is my first book by L.V. Lane and if she writes more books like this one it won't be my last. I'm a sucker for apocalyptic/dystopian romances especially ones where women aren't constantly raped or treated poorly on page. Owned is told in four POV's which I loved the characters but wish each couple had their own book. I felt that the author could have given us so much more with each couple if they had their own books. Overall, I'm glad I read this one and look forward to more.

I love post-apocalyptic stories, and I really enjoyed this addition to the genre. The guys weren't that alpha that you hated them and the women were not too hard, that they couldn't submit to some hot, sexy times ;-) It was good enough that I wanted more.

Owned is a change of venue from Ms Lane's familiar genre, the omegaverse. Here the background is a dystopian scenario after the world has suffered a series of wars that have brought down civilization as we know it. There is now law but the survival of the fittest or the strongest, humans have lost any sense of civility and women have become property, they are owned. In this book we are told the story of two couples: Ava/Blaine and Nora/Carter, how they come to be together and a brief introduction into their new life.

What I like most is the way that the sense of despair is transmitted throught the words. As a hardcore science fiction fan, an apocalyptic-dystopian world is a topic I've touched a lot and I perceive it as something pretty plausible, I mean, global warming, e.m. pulse, meteorytes, you name it...So I often wonder how human beings would act in the face of something like that happening, how would we behave? Well, this book depicts is pretty accurately imo, in such a short story you can grasp that desolation and chaos. I would have liked a more detailed description of the events leading to the catastrophe and how the world evolved from that. We get just snippets of the whole picture.

I found following the two parallel stories a little too much, I would have liked to read more about Nora and Carter since the book is more focused on Ava's side of the story. Since we see all POVs from the 4 MCs, I found it frustrating that the viewpoint suddenly changed to a different couple when I was already invested in another thread. To flesh out fully all the characters the book would have needed a lot more pages for it. I certainly hope Ms Lane will delight us with an expanded continuation and I hope it involves the story of Taylor, the self-proclaimed king.

The writing is fluid, easy to read and fast paced. The sex is hot with some dirty talking that left me wishing for more. The ownership theme is hot and of course it is laced with a little dub-con, but nothing dark. Also, Ava was in a relationship with another woman (no ff scenes depicted) that was not clear to me because it left me uncertain of its nature (was it born out of necessity, a survival thing, or was it truly attraction?).

Overall, a pleasure like always with all this author writes, I only wish this book had been longer.

Ava and Nora are in Sanctuary, a safe haven to live in the dytopian world 17 years after the war. Ava must leave to try and get vital medicine for Nora's son and ventures out into the dangerous world. Suddenly an attack is waged on the Sanctuary as Ava is hiding on a rooftop watching. Blaine discovers her and takes her to the doctor of the invading troops. When he discovers she is not bearing and owners mark, he asks his brother, Dr Carter to mark her for him, he now owns Ava. Nora is taken to the medical facility and she demands the medicine her son needs. Carter cares for the boy, cures him and puts his mark on Nora. Any man finding an unmarked female can claim her or challenge an owner for a woman, Blane and Carter must fight or defend their claim if challenged. The world they are living in is brought to life as you read and the situations they find themselves in are dangerous, threatening and need constant vigilance. Both Blaine and Carter are fierce protectors and defend their women whenever necessary, they are also very demanding owners and lovers when they stake their claims and make the lives of Nora and Ava more comfortable and bearable for them all. I loved both of the lover's stories and was so happy to see the sweet doctor Carter man up when his claim is challenged. Blaine was a hard one, but very fair when dealing with Ava. All in all, everyone gets what they want in the end that culminates in the best possible way in the dystopian world they are living in. I wonder if more of this world will have a continuing story, it certainty ended with the possibility. This was a very enjoyable story with these two women the child of Nora's and the men that own them, I loved it!

In Owned, L.V. Lane deviates from omegaverse and dips her toes into dystopian romance. This books is also quite different in that it follows not one but two couples. To be honest, I wasn't sure about the two couples thing, but it worked really well here as their individual stories intertwined and enriched each other. In Owned, Ms. Lane creates a world in which might is right and women are owned by men. The ownership is tenuous at best with men constantly being challenged for their prized possessions. We meet two brothers who are quite different from each other yet similar in their apparent disinterest in ownership. Enter Ava and Nora... I just adored all the main characters in this book. Blaine is just the kind of growly alpha male I adore. Carter, while appearing softer on the outside, has quite a few tricks up his sleeve. I mean, who wouldn't love a hot dominant yet patient doctor? Ava and Nora are also quite different yet both strong in their own ways. Being an L.V. lane book, there's plenty of steam and action as well as a well-executed plot. If I had any misgivings it's that I would have loved to know what exactly happened to lead humanity to this point. I am really hoping for Taylor's story, so maybe we can get more of an insight? Overall, a fast-paced, entertaining and steamy read!

Despite my slight hesitation, this one was quite an interesting read. I happen to enjoy a good dystopian story and this one definitely delivered on that front, but what is more, it offered two solid relationships.

The idea of branding and owning did bug me a bit initially. However, both heroines were enchanted with their partners, so there was no lack of consent or willingness to enter those respective unions, so to speak.

Carter, I bloody loved him. He takes on Nora as well as Adam without spending too much time contemplating on it. I suppose in such universe, where each day could be your last, swift decision should be made. Blaine was determined, unyielding and completely smitten with Ava.The chemistry between each couple was sizzling and I am not sure why, but I loved the possessiveness of both MMCs.

I would have preferred for this to be longer as I do think there is quite a bit of backstory to each of the characters. There are quite a few questions that I have in regard to the enhancements that some individuals receive - more information on that would have been fantastic. I hope there is more coming from this universe as I would gladly read it.

Wow. I wasn't sure about this book because of the two love stories and 4 POVs but color me impressed. I can see why both stories were told in the same book. I liked the world building, it did not bog down the story. The conflict towards the end was a slightly annoying but quickly resolved and set up for another story.

Overall, highly recommend if you like post apoc romances.

Oh, how I loved this newest book by L.V. Lane!

I first got to know this author through her Omegaverse trope books, so to read a new book that isn't Omegaverse but also still part of a Dystopian world, was a great experience. This isn't the first none-omegaverse book I have read by her, I have also read 'Bad Boss: A Steamy Romantic Comedy' which I also highly recommend (a romance, HEA, fluffy and entertaining book).

L.V. Lane's Owned is a dystopian-HEA-rough around the edges, kind of book. It's got all the good stuff we have come to love from her writing.
It's erotic, it's brilliant world-building, great character building, and I really fell in love with the characters.

This book is read from several perspectives, we have the two main female characters, but also their alpha male men.

Now, as I said earlier this book is not in the Omegaverse category, but the setting itself, and the fact that this takes place in a dystopian world, with slight a slight Sci-Fi feeling, where one of our male main characters, talk about the 'enhancements' that people have gotten, but also that he for example and others have had after-effects from these enhancements, and what he mentions there are some of the things that we recognize from the Alphas in Omegaverse. Which I found so fascinating and cool! :D I also picked out several Omega traits from our two main female characters!

This isn't something you would probably pick up on though if you weren't into that trope, or have read any of her other books - to me it actually made the book even more interesting because I built this picture in my head that the book could very well be some sort of unofficial prequel to Omegaverse as if this was the very very beginning and another setting for how it came about that we developed ABO dynamics hehe. But that is purely my own interpretation of the book and how I saw things, hehe, but it did open up for brainstorming and I enjoyed it, so I thought I would mention it. :)

All in all this is a wonderful book filled with action, but I must highlight that the setting is dystopian and women are in fact 'owned'. I say women, but I guess you could say, people. This is done by branding - so depending on who "owns" you...well... let's just say that one of the main females has bad experiences.
Therefore this book def. has power exchange, and the men are very very ALPHA, some are even insane (though not the main Hs) and so forth.
The book has the normal for a dystopian setting, though it's far from too gritty and I don't consider the book to be extremely dark. It does have some dark content obviously, but mostly I found it to have more mystery of who the h are and what they are running from etc.

The main Hs are very family-oriented and I really liked them. :)

Definately a 5* from me!

This story has two romances going on simultaneously. We are first introduced to Ava who has left the protection of Sanctuary on a mission to find some much needed meds. This isn't something she does on a regular basis and nothing goes as planned. The second romance focuses on Nora, the person who is responsible for Ava being out on her mission. Her day isn't exactly going the way she expected it to, either. That's where the adventure.

The story is a departure from what this author usually writes and it has me excited to see what other tropes Ms. Lane will dive into next. It's a fast-paced, action-filled dystopian story where the world has gone mad and the desperation for survival has reduced humans to their most primal level. The men are all engaged in a brutal war and women are owned. This dog-eat-dog existence adds to the desperate emotional feel to the story and had me loving the romances between the characters even more. The only thing I wish had been different was the length because I wasn't ready for this one to end.

This book is a completely new venture for Miss Lane, and doesn't belong to any series that came before it. A dystopian world, it features many of the dangers and complications we expect in this type of setting, but our poor heroine has the added weight of carrying a secret that could destroy her life if anyone found out. In a way, this book is almost an 'insta-love' (not quite literally though), which makes sense to me given the state of the world they are in and how these characters must feel, plus this book really has a fast pace to it, so it keeps things moving smoothly. Overall it was a very enjoyable, easy read, with plenty of steam. The big threat to the heroine is neutralized with shocking simplicity by our hero, which I thought was a nice twist. Once he discovered the cause of her distress, he didn't think twice to remove it from her life even though there was danger for him in doing so. I thought that was pretty Alpha, and pretty hot. Overall, definitely recommend.

Love in the ruins

This is a wonderfully intertwining pair of stories: Ava and Blaine’s; Nora and Carter’s. Both hinge on the despair that comes from the end of the known world and the beginning of something more primitive. Both are about finding hope in another battered soul and love amongst the ruins.
This book particularly spoke to me in the pandemic. It’s not about COVID, but the same sense of despair, of loss, of wondering whether things will ever be safe and good again is very much woven through this story. Seeing both battered couples find that something in each other that turns the wasteland into a more fertile field uplifted me. Yes, I read to escape - particularly right now and this book is a great escape with its richly imagined dystopian world, strong characters and high tension - but I also read to feel that sense of wonder that only great stories give me and this gave me all of them.
Highly recommended.

I wish Nora and Ava had separated books so I could see more of the plot and dynamics in their chemistry buildup. This book takes "branded" by men more... tamed and takes the things as like getting presents for every Christmas each year. Also, my feminist self vanished the moment I started reading this book. It just felt so fast, and my needy self wanted more.

I love dark romance but i'm not a huge fan of dystopia stories, however i decided to give this a go and I'm glad I did! The biggest thing I loved about this was that it covered the stories of two heroines not just one, both Nora and Ava, told in POVs from both heroines as well their respective heroes, Blaine and Carter! Their stories linked and overlapped as the plot progressed!
I found that I really liked the characters and the overall plot was good, the only thing this lacked was the ending.....I found it a little to abrupt and easy with what Blaine did, there was very little explanation on Ava's uncle or the past which i would have liked!
I will be definitely be reading more from this author!

Dark dystopian romance!

This story is fantastic. It’s dark, gritty and filled with pulse racing intensity and action. I was riveted to my seat right from the very first page, not wanting the story to end. It’s a fast paced romance that will keep you squirming on your seat leaving you begging for more.

The characters are well written and their stories felt real. They all bring a unique twist to the story and add their own tales of pain and heartache from when the world collapsed. It kept me captivated and wanting more and more from each of them.

Ava and Nora are two very fierce and strong women. They are just trying to survive in their own sanctuary protecting each other, but are now being thrust into ownership with fierce men whether they want it or not. The men they are now tied to are pure domineering alphas who will protect them at all costs. Their connections are instant, thrilling and very sexy.

The world building was vividly written making this new world come to life on the pages. This is a unique and intriguing dystopian world that has been created, but definitely not a world I would ever want to live in.

I can’t wait to see how things develop in this series and I can’t wait for more.

Everything she writes is pure golg

I wasn't sure if I would like this book but low and behold L.V. Lane hit it out of the park. This story was definitely outside of the realm I normally read but I am glad I did.
It follows 4 characters and at first I wasn't sure if I wanted to be the involved with all 4. I definitely think they could have been 2 separate books but it all fit perfectly together. The 4 main characters are all different and even though the book is short you learn about each one and how their stories connect. I can't tell you how many of her books I have purchased after reading them.

She is an amazing writer. I am glad I found her books.

Owned – Liv Lane
Dark, dark, dark – A glorious tale of two women and the brothers that fall for them!
We are in a post-apocalyptic world where women are owned by men (for their own safety…)

Couple one – Blaine and Ava.
Blaine - He is Soldier in the new world. Not just any soldier, an elite who is pretty much the right hand of the current ruler! He is no-nonsense and lethal when necessary. He stumbles upon Ava through the course of capturing the latest city for the boss!

Ava – She has gone on a mission to get meds for the child of her follow free woman of the Sanctuary building which is in a peaceful enclave where they have lived in a small community, unmolested and safe from ownership by men for many, many years! She is caught outside the building on a neighbouring rooftop by Blaine, who subdues her and subsequently claims her for his own.

Their relationship is one of master and submissive and filled with a spectacular amount of steamy hot scenes that will sizzle your Kindle, some of which are dub-con.

Couple two – Carter and Nora.
Carter - He’s a doctor and the younger brother of Blaine. Much younger brother at 26 years old although he is quite accomplished and respected among his peers.

Nora – She is a mother with a sick toddler (Adam) who was also residing in Sanctuary when it was taken over by the new regime. Nora has a healthy fear of men. She has been badly mistreated in the past but has managed to keep it together for the sake of her child. Surviving everyday as best she can.

Carter treats Nora’s child, and this is how they become acquainted. Nora pretty much asks Carter to claim and own her, seeing she has little options, and he seems like a decent enough man. Carter reluctantly agrees and in doing so, discovers his darker, more dominant side! More steamy goodness follows!

Liv Lane has created a post-apocalyptic world full of danger, lust and control, but there is certainly enough love thrown in to make this an extremely dark romance. Definitely an 18+ read.

Loved it! Five stars!

You have got to love LV Lane. I love the various worlds she creates within the Omegaverse and the hauntingly different one of "Predictive". This is a different world, still so enthralling in it's post-apocalyptic theme, but similar to what we know and love about the author's books.

The bonus of this book is that it allows you to follow two women's journeys as they go from the relative safety of Sanctuary to the possible confines of 'ownership'. It's a new world and woman are the weaker sex. These women have to hope they land in the hands of kind, caring owners and not ruthless pimps..

It's a story that has an edge of brutally that you would expect considering the world in which the story takes place and hot, lustful desperation that can turn to more. It has the alpha males that always make her books and headstrong, feisty females that keep the guys on their toes. Like all of LV Lane's stories, once she creates a world I just can't get enough. This is my first book by this author. I loved the post-apocalyptic landscape. Think Mad Max, no zombies!

I also love that it centers around two couples. You get two stories for the price of one, and neither of them are lacking in my opinion.

This book takes place in a time where women are considered property. Though the two heroes in this story are fierce and alpha already, ownership brings forth their primal need to possess their women from the inside out. There's something very hot about that!

This book is very fast paced. There was never a dull moment. There's a bit of suspense and intrigue.

This story wrapped up in a satisfying ending, but it also leave me hoping for another book. I didn't want to leave that world!

Love love

Loved it.. Blaine and Carter character was the perfect mix between a alpha/sweet guy.. Blaine is this badass soldiers and Carter is just this sweet doctor but kinda a badass too.. they both are new to the whole owning thing and I like how they give the girls a choice.. Ava and Nora are just trying to survive this new world when War finds them and now they have to find a owner or one will be found for them... the sexy time and dirty talk in this book is just 🤤

Savages!

I absolutely love these characters and to have 4main characters and it done well is impressive ! Good story line without a bunch of uanessacry fluff filler and just blends so well with each characters POV and interactions. If this was a series I’d be all over it but it’s not :( it’s ok it ends in a satisfying way and doesn’t leave you feeling let down. A definite recommend !

Mix of everything

Great read. It is a read till it’s done type of book! I really like all the characters. Carter was the smart sexy Alpha type. Blaine was the sexy strong Alpha type. Very hot possessive guys! Nora and Ava were tough ladies too. The story line kept you reading and there was some bad a$s fighting too! Mitch and Jodi need a book for sure!

Dystopian world/dark romance

5 stars

What an enjoyable read! This book was very well paced and written. It had some very strong characters, who were both interesting and relatable. The story is set in a dystopian world with lots of conflict and a different set of rules. All together it was a thoroughly good read and highly recommended.
