Rock star Simon McFee has no idea what to expect from the Leanin' N, the dude ranch in Colorado where his sister has decided to have her wedding. What he gets is a wrecked rental car, a really mad sister, and an old flame blowing in on the wind in the form of the wedding singer. Simon is so thrilled to see Michael again, and happy to take some time off from his crazy life and have a little retreat.
Michael Johns is a dad, an accountant, and still a musician, even if he mostly sings at weddings these days. When he sees Simon again, he's taken back to his days of touring with Simon and his late wife on the folk festival circuit. He falls for Simon all over again, but he knows he has to be careful. His twin girls, Chloe and Mickey are his whole life, and he has secrets that might end his love affair before it begins. Can Michael and Simon find the time and space to start a new life together, or will the wind carry them away from each other again?
Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy's Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her hounds and her beloved wife, texting her grandbabies, and eating Mexican food. When she's not doing that, she's writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting, and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. Following their own personal joys, BA and Julia heard the call of the high desert and they now live in the New Mexico mountains. BA's personal saviors include her wife, her best friends, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.
Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to cowboy daddies to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which is committed to giving everyone their happily ever after. With books ranging from hard-hitting BDSM, to fiery passions, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.
Colorado. Simon's sister is getting married and he's been overworked trying to get to her on time. He doesn't want to let her down. The wedding is at the Leanin' N Ranch, and Michael is asked to play guitar and sing. He's got amazing daughters, twin girls, 8, and his own ranch. Nine years ago he and Simon, now a rock star performer, had a threesome with Michael's wife, but she has since died in childbirth.
Michael is a master of balancing his life with children, songs, and the ranch, and his accounting business. Simon crashes onto the scene, wreaking havoc. Simon and Michael haven't seen each other for many years, but their attraction hasn't faded. We watch as the men get acquainted, and hangout with the girls, who are talented and whip smart.
The wedding does not go as planned, but Simon takes a break from the fast paced record business, and stays with Michael and the girls. Their hot sexiness is passionate, and scorching firsts for Michael.
Stories are told, we get hints, and then the truth. Things move quickly then, and much is going on. The girls are their priority, especially when the paparazzi find Simon.
Bodyguards, security, and friend pull in the ranks. Teamwork, much love, and close friends help out. Plans are being made, until Simon must go to L.A. for his contract changes. We get worried when he doesn't come back right away ....
This is a wonderful story of forgiveness, acceptance, family first, and deep passions. The characters are thought-filled, with a smoothly delivered tale, and a tight group of supportive folks to cherish.
Noting that I'm judging this book for what it is. What it is not is high literature, but I very seldom read that kind of thing. Within its own genre, I thought it was good.
I'm reading this series out of order, but I read the first couple of books and a bit of the third, so I recognized a lot of the Leanin' N characters from earlier books. I felt that the story in book 5 could be followed without having read earlier books, though. This book had its own distinct backstory for the protagonists.
I liked Michael and Simon. The girls were amusing, too, and Michael notes the distinct quirks in their personalities. I don't tend to be particularly a fan of children as secondary or minor characters in a genre like romance, but the twins were okay. They were relatively well-behaved, and didn't c*ck-block Michael and Simon for the entire book. Ms. Tortuga has considerably more in the way of plot in her books now than was in the books of hers from earlier in the century that I've read. I'm good with that.
This is the last book(for now I hope) and I loved it. Michael and Simon are great characters, along with Michael's twins. For the storyline it was relatively low angst. I waiting for the next book-I want a HEA for Geoff--just absolutely love him.
Love has a way of drawing lovers back to each other. Simon and Michael first met each other when they were playing on the folk and bluegrass music circuit. Michael's wife welcomed Simon to their bed to join them as a threesome throughout the summer. Then, Simon had an opportunity to make it as a top rock star and he went on with his fame and fortune. Michael's wife became pregnant with twins and sadly died several days after their birth. Michael abandoned the idea of making music a full-time career, became an accountant, and dedicated himself to raising his daughters as a single father. He occasionally plays at weddings just to keep active.
Now, almost nine years later, Simon and Michael cross paths again. The attraction is immediate, but it seems that their lives so different. Simon has tired of the crushing grind of being a superstar and wonders if it is time to slow down and re-prioritize his life. Michael has an important secret that he's keeping from Simon that could change everything. Can these two men do what it takes to be together forever? This book has a good family feel, lots of friends, time spent at Leanin' N Ranch, and a big love between two men who have met their destiny.
Some new friends, some old friends. Pretty low angst, just a love reconnection. No fighting, no real drama. A perfect book for the end of 2020 which already produced all the drama the world needed. Good characters, cute kids
Wonderful characters, great secondary characters, and the Leaning N ranch. Perhaps it was just a bit too sweet and perfect, but it I was comforted to read a book about people who are trying to do their best and who are unselfish when it comes to those they love.
I love the met up. What a great way to connection. I like how Simon really cares about the relationship from the start. I also like how Michael's relationship with his children are protected. This is a great love story but it is also a wonderful family story. What a wonderful life they are building together.
So far this series has taught me about Cornhole games, Donut walls, Bridal climbing walls, Salad bar in the bathtub, Cocktail Taco trucks and that The Great British Bake Off is called the Great British Baking Show in the US. Looking forward to reading more in this world so far from anything I have ever experienced.
I guess this is just a me thing but the biological parent storyline made my stomach sink. Like anxious and physically sick. Am I the only one who thinks keeping that VERY IMPORTANT information from Simon and continuing to do so is straight up despicable?? Michael wasn’t even trying to distance himself or anything; no in fact he was actively rekindling and pursuing a relationship with the man while keeping huge life-changing bombshell news to himself out of pure selfishness…
Lack of communication is a huge huge dealbreaker for me in romances. And I’m not talking about demure omissions of the “love you” declaration in fear of rejection. I’m talking “you conceived twins with my wife slash your lover whose childbirth killed her and I didn’t think it was important to tell you at all” kind of omission. The severity of it here tells me enough.
This could’ve be a grade A masterclass in Hitchcockian suspense because that ticking time bomb was so fixed on my mind the whole time that I can’t even describe either of the actual twins at all. I just couldn’t enjoy it when I was hastily skimming towards the reveal AT 64% ?!!!! AND SIMON HAD TO PIECE IT TOGETHER AFTER HIS MOM TOLD HIM. HE HAD TO CONFRONT MICHAEL HIMSELF. Jesus Christ. Personally I don’t think the clues should’ve been introduced so early. I just couldn’t see Michael in a fair light for majority of the story.
And I HAVE. TO. LAUGH. I looked at the very last page before the epilogue and Michael has the gall to say in his head “I did good Rhi. I reach out. I had faith.”
Uh huhhhh…….
I’ve liked another story from this series and was definitely not prepared for or expecting this type of storyline here so bye bye
This was a little different than what I thought it would be.
Michael is the daddy of two girls twins. He loves them to the nth degree and wouldn't have it any other way. Simon new Michael from years ago when Simon was a nobody. Simon literally runs into Michael at the Leaning N Ranch not Michael, but his truck. Thins will come out as their relationship begins on a new course.
Arriving for his gig as a wedding singer, Michael is delighted to have a short holiday for the family. Surprisingly, an old flame crashes into his vehicle, as he arrives for his sister's wedding. The surprises don't stop there but continue throughout this story.
