Just the other day, I was bait. Now he says I am his to keep.

I was betrothed to a man I barely knew to right my mother’s wrongs. That is no longer the case. The terms set forth are all null and void.

I’ve been kidnapped from my home by savages—beasts in man-form. We call them The Uncaged—a clan of lawless exiles and raiders known for raising hell to get what they want. When they find out what I’m worth, they’ll never let me go.

The Uncaged are not men. They are Alphas. Created long ago to become super soldiers for the government, they have since turned against humanity. All who know of them stay away. No one crosses this clan. But someone did…

My Alpha captor is bold, feral, and has no time for games. He will get what he wants, even if he has to fight for it. But he’s already made it clear that he’s not giving me up.

I made a promise and now I can’t keep it. I don’t want to anymore, knowing that the only way I will know peace is with an Alpha. Human omegas are extremely rare. Once my heat surges, my alpha won’t be able to control his cravings. Our mate-bond is already forming.

He says he’ll keep me safe, but there are other Alphas in the village watching… and waiting.

He won’t give me back and he won’t let me go. There’s only one thing left to do, and the choice may ignite a war.

The Uncaged Omegaverse takes place on a dystopian Earth and combines paranormal and fantasy elements. Of course, there's a steamy, passionate romance in the mix. The story contains descriptive violence and sex and offensive language. May also include triggers. It also contains a bold, possessive alpha man and a sassy heroine.

This can be read as standalone, with a quick HEA at the end :) For clarification: There is a cliff hanger for the overall story arc at the end of the book, but the couple do end up together. The author said the next book features a different couple, but this couple will appear in future books. Thanks to the author for providing that info :))

This is a positive 3 star rating. This was almost a 4 and I felt this story had the potential for greatness, but it overall was rough around the edges.

I started taking notes on when the inner mono seemed awkward from the characters, and when the dialogue seemed unnatural/stilted. I think if this author had put this book through a few critiques (either an author/critique partner/ or beta reader who is willing to point out when certain sentences seem awkward) this book could see a big improvement. It doesn't need major changes, but lots of tweaks could help. The story, the great ideas are there, just the execution was off in places.

Just to add: I'm being more forgiving in this case because this book is in KU and priced at a v. reasonable $2.99.

To the story:

***Spoilers***

I liked the dystopian setting, and it reminded me *slightly* of The Handmaid's Tale. Which is exciting, because I've long thought themes from The Handmaid's Tale and Omegaverse fit together well. The setting is a futuristic America, damaged by bombs, and divided into sectors. There's resource scarcity, and different sectors rely on trade for resources like food and oil. Many people are infertile, and importance is put on fertile women (there's a registry for them). We find out Karis belongs to a family in one sector of importance and is fertile.

Chains that once bound us were now used to trap and imprison our enemies. In extreme cases, they were even used to kill. This was our way. Wherever we went, wherever we did not belong, they called us the uncaged.

The Hero, Axil, belongs to a group of Alphas called the Uncaged. They come to kidnap Karis and use her as a bargaining chip because her fiancé took something of importance from them.

Here were a few issues I had with this part: I thought Karis did not put up enough of a fight against her kidnapper. I know the author tried to address this, and at one point Karis said, "Why did I leave so easily with you, I feel safe with you" to Axil. And the reason is suppose to be they're both fated mates and drawn to each other. but...

The author made it clear how important it was to Karis to remain a virgin to her fiancé. Not just that it was important to the fiancé, but meaningful and important to Karis herself. Axil tells Karis he plans on returning her, and then vividly describes how he wants to knot her. So Axil has kidnapped a sheltered, young virgin, who has never been around an Alpha, and as he's describing vividly how he wants to knot her, she reacts incredibly casual about it. It didn't make sense to me. I think the author lost an opportunity to create more angst, tension, and conflict in the story regarding the mixed feelings Karis would have had. She at least could have had more conflict shown in her inner mono, the 'I'm attracted to him, but this goes against everything I was raised to expect, yada yada yada,' tension. Instead she's just like, 'I'll leave with this strange man I don't know, because it feels right.'

The first review mentioned the characterization was a bit flat. I think part of this problem stemmed from the author not diving fully into the character's heads. The story could have seen improvement if it had been more character driven.

Axil wasn't an asshole at all. He treated the heroine with respect, there was 100% consent. So this Omegaverse may appeal to those who like Omegaverse with dark themes, but the Alphas aren't cruel like in the darkest Omegaverse books. This book is also safe. No cheating/ow drama.

The background with the Alphas was very cool (although cheesy at times), and reminded me of X-Men a bit.

I liked it. I'll probably read the next book in the series.

This is set in a dystopian world where people live in controlled sectors run by governors. Karis is the niece of the governor of Legance and to strengthen allegiances between themselves and Anchora a neighbouring province she is bartered in marriage.

Axil is one of the uncaged; Alphas that were bred in a lab before the world fell to ruin. Now he and his people are labelled savages and live in their own villages separate from the sectors. To force the hand of Stefan Who is Karis’s betrothed Axil and his men kidnap her from her home for use as leverage.

This actually started out well the initial opening chapters did manage to grab my attention. I was very intrigued by the whole alpha omega dynamic of the uncaged add in an abduction and it was all going swimmingly. But from the instant, these two meet it suddenly goes downhill and fast. Karis doesn’t act anything like I would expect an abducted girl too her reactions are just off. She’s also so accepting about everything puts up no fight whatsoever and bar one initial first attempt doesn’t try to escape. The ideals she’s held to are very swiftly replaced she needs no convincing to change her preconceptions and then there’s Axel who is just super nice and accommodating it all felt just so bland and I was left sadly disappointed.

This wasn’t generally a bad story it just felt simplistic and there was no actual tension or friction. There was also little chemistry and this was most definitely instalove. This is not always an issue in omegaverse because of the power dynamic but here it just wasn’t working for me maybe because it was all so very sweet nice and consensual. Also is it just me or is Karis super naive I know she’s only eighteen but some of her initial thought processes especially when she’s first taken just seemed so childlike and docile. This also felt slow and this is actually a short book the secondary characters didn’t feel developed and Axel was I hate to say it but boring. I also felt no emotional connection to any of the participants either.

This finished in a HEA but with a continuing story arc that will centre on another alpha omega pairing. Unfortunately, I’m out this just wasn’t my bag and I won’t be continuing any further with the series. It did have some good initial ideas but for me, they didn’t pan out if you're looking for a gritty dystopian romance like I was this one isn’t it.

Uh. Well, there is very little word building in this and the "science" is sketchy and didn't make sense to me. Somehow Alpha super humans are created among regular humans and since wolf DNA is involved we have knots and omegas that produce so much "slick" is drips into pools on the floor by their feet. Blech. That grosses me out and I note it's a slip hazard.

I read omegaverse stories rarely but apocalypse/dystopian type stories intrigue me and I always hope the author won't include floor dripping "slick"... I'm almost always, like in this case, disappointed.

This has no interesting plot or world building. I'm not going to continue the saga. I find it boring when Alpha drive and Omega nature are so strong it takes all the fun out of the chase. When nobody can overcome their instincts to fuck and fuck and fuck and fuck some more I find it dull instead of titillating or romantic.

Too slow. For this to be under 200 pages things went very slowly. Storyline was ok. Characters were a bit dull. Secondary characters were not developed.

Not my cup-o-tea.

Happy reading,

This is certainly not the dark and gritty dystopian tale of hardship and suffering I’ll admit I was expecting after reading the description for this Sci-fi/Fantasy Omegaverse romance. It had the potential for an interesting story though, about Uncaged and human survivors living in an altered reality, forty years after a world-wide apocalyptic event. But that just serves as the backdrop since the story follows the mystery surrounding Karis’ origins and the reasons behind her kidnapping. I enjoyed the Uncaged Alphas’ origins and found Axil to be protective and undeniably Alpha, but definitely not feral as the blurb states. The story is a quick read that features some suspense, mystery, surprises and adventure along with several explicit Alpha/omega sexual encounters.

SWEET. OMEGAVERSE STORIES AREN'T EASY TO WRITE, THAT'S A GIVEN. I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY THE MAJORITY OF THE REVIEWS ARE JUST 3 STARS. THE ATTRACTION WAS THERE BUT THE ONLY THING MISSING WAS A REALLY, REALLY GOOD MOTIVATING PLOT and EXPANDED BACK STORY. The characters were pretty much all over each other and there were hints of instinctual Alpha-Omega interaction but I guess it wasn't INTENSE ENOUGH.

AXIL abducts our heroine because his clan 'the Uncaged Savages' are owed something in return from her fiancé. The story actually started off pretty interesting and all but once the attraction hits, everything just fizzles off. Why? I told you, the lack of intensity and drive in the plot. ANGST is always a good factor to add in here but I sadly there wasn't any. Axil's a rugged, good-looking kind of responsible Alpha. Definitely not the kind women will hate on that's for sure.

KARIS was meek. Sadly because I didn't read this finish, I didn't get to understand her family's background but I'm guessing there's an untold story there because she never even knew she was an Omega. Again, the Omegaverse interaction wasn't intense or animalistic enough.

OVERALL I don't want to be mean but if compared to my 5 stars favourite Omegaverse authors' stories, this one lacks angst, grit and raw passion to entice its audience. And yeah, honestly I couldn't be bothered by the plot...so I guess that might be a factor as well? BUT DON'T GET ME WRONG, IT'S NOT A BAD STORY. IT'S ENJOYABLE TO READ TO PASS THE TIME.

This is an interesting world. The story was hard to get into because the exposition is done with a heavy hand. It dragged in a few places. But I hope its because it is setting up the rest of the series.

Slow burn omegaverse romance.

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found but awkward sentence structure. The world building of this dystopian environment and society was not especially vibrant. The characterization was somewhat flat, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic if not especially nuanced or vivid. The development of the romantic relationship was okay, but I was not invested in the relationship, maybe because of the somewhat flat characterization. This novel had a heat level of three chili peppers. The plot was unexceptional, and the pacing was quite quick, which was a plus. There was low angst and high stakes in this novel, which I typically enjoy but was unmoved by in this novel. This novel used the Kidnapping trope, the Enemies to Lovers trope, and the Mating Bond trope. The world building was two stars. The plot and pacing were three stars. The characterization was three stars and the development of the romantic relationship was also three stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of three stars. This story ended on a bit of a cliffhanger ending instead of a Happy Ever After ending, so that was a big drawback. I recommend this novel to readers who are interested in reading most of the m/f omegaverse romances out there, but not necessarily to readers looking for gripping dystopian or sci-fi romance. Hopefully the writing quality of the series improves dramatically, and this novel falls short simply because it is a debut. I am still interested in reading the next novel in this series when it releases to see if the storytelling skill improves. I am not currently going to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel, but I will keep an eye on this author.

Eh..it's ok..

Let me start by saying that the plot and description seemed pretty intriguing to me and the heat level kicks up to high about halfway through...but... It's not my cup of tea. I like omegaverse and dystopian fiction, but this is like so informed it's hard to get a true sense of setting. There isn't enough time spent developing characters, and the plot holes/editing are just too much. There is a whole section that switched POV's without warning and misnamed a character in another.

Would have been more interesting with a bit more detail to flesh out the characters and the world. Especially to help me understand who the world of characters were - they were here and gone so quickly that nothing stuck. Then by the time we got to the big reveal moment at the end, I had no idea who we were talking about anymore so the entire scene/ending had no impact on me.

A great start to the series

I totally enjoyed this book. However, I was surprised by the “niceness “ of Axil and his Alphas, in comparison to other Omegaverse stories. The twist at the end was a good surprise. Now I have to read the next book, Banished.

This book is just flat. The heroine has no real spark--she just accepts everything anyone tells her and adjusts accordingly. So when she's being given as a prize to redeem her mother's sins, that's OK. When she's taken by others and they reveal further truth to her, that's OK. The hero is also a cypher; there's a lot he doesn't reveal to the heroine. I also had trouble understanding the societies here. The worldbuilding is patchy at best, which added to the flatness overall of this book. I didn't understand why human omegas appeared when alphas were manufactured in a lab, and why the society had split into the various camps that seemed to exist.

There's a kernel of a really interesting premise in Uncaged. But the execution fails to deliver.

The couple: Axil and Karis

Romance genre: Omegaverse (sweet)

Plot: This was a sweet omegaverse set in a dystopian United States. Karis is the niece of the governor and has been promised in marriage to another governor. She has just turned eighteen when she is kidnapped by an alpha (Axil) to be used in negotiations with her intended.

This story could have been longer if it included more world-building. I would like to know more about the development of the supersoldiers, and how they escaped. What is behind the infertility? How are there human omegas - is that something that existed before the disasters broke down society (and what were those disasters)? Lots of questions! My hope is that some of these issues will be explored throughout the rest of the series.

Character development: There is no conflict between the alpha and omega as sometimes seen in this genre' the conflict comes from the actions of the sector leaders, who in this case are all connected to Karis. We learn about Karis' natural submissiveness, and how she understands her lack of knowledge about the outside world; she is quick to change her views when she learns the truth. The character development could have used some expansion. Honestly, I would like a longer book or a second book that allowed us to see more about these characters. Axil seemed like a natural leader, but I got the impression from the book that he was simply a placeholder until the other alpha came back. What's with that?

Part of a series: , Yes, first in a series that has not yet been finished

Would I read more from this author/in this series: Yes, definitely!

I enjoyed the story and can see it becoming a great series. If you're looking for a dark, gritty omegaverse, this is not it! This is much lighter, and was very enjoyable.

Karis has know her future her whole life. Due to her mother's impulsive actions, she has been promised in marriage to a stranger since before her birth. She has been kept sheltered and innocent her whole life waiting to be married when she turns 18. Too bad she doesn't like her future husband. The day she turned 18 she gets a message saying her marriage will be postponed a little because her groom had an accident. Karis is outside that night rebelling against her life by drinking illegal alcohol given to her by her best friend. While she is outside, she is kidnapped by a strong sexy man. She goes along with it thinking he is from her future husband. When she wakes up her whole has been turned upside down.

Axil is one of the alphas of the unchained barbarians. Most people of the sectors fear and avoid them. Axil has the mission of kidnapping Karis and holding her until her future husband meets their demands. He had cheated them and Axil wanted to force him to keep his promises. When he grabs Karis, he learns he has 2 big problems. One he is greatly attracted to her and second she is a human omega going into heat. Axil doesn't want to take away all her choices but he is tempted to make her his.

This is a very enjoyable read, I would recommend
I always enjoy the dystopian omega-verse books and the introduction of various Alphas and the actual hard living they have to undertake so that they can survive and continue their lines by finding females that are still fertile.
With the infertility and the lack of resources and in fighting with the sectors that they continue to strive on, Karis has been sold into a marriage simply to pay for her mothers’ sins. She is not even considered in the fact that she has no say, doesn’t want to marry all her mother cares about is herself her daughter is simply a commodity she can use.
She is simply a pawn and will soon have to learn that she has no say, she has been told that the Uncaged are savages and that they are no better that wild beasts. However Axil who is an Alpha knows something about Karis that makes her special and together they are a to be reckoned with.
As they fight their future is soon becomes apparent that together they are following a destiny that is so much more than anyone could possibly know.

The Uncaged . . .

The Uncaged are defined as created Alphas. They were bred long ago to be super-soldiers for the government. Now they are avoided because they are dangerous. No one dares to cross the clan… and yet someone did. Karis is an Omega whose fiancé allegedly cheated them and took something from these Alphas and so she was kidnapped because he owed them. (So why not kidnap HIM?) Karis is almost ready to go into her heat cycle, so this will get interesting.

The Alpha captor Axil is bold and fearless. He is determined to get exactly what he wants by taking it or fighting for it. He has made it clear that he will not give Karis up. He refuses to give her back and he won’t release her. He will take her for himself, even if that decision may start a war.

The elements of the story sound good, but it lacks the ooomph to carry the story line as well as it could. Omegas don’t have to be quite so docile, so I hope to see some growth in Karis. But I liked the basic story and intend to keep going with the series to see where it ends up. There is action, suspense, and intrigue in these pages, and there is a secret buried somewhere that will be quite a surprise. So stick with this series and see what is coming next.

Yeah for me omegaverse fun

I love, love omegaverse. Some books are so good, while others fall short. This one is worthy of going on my shelf to be read again in the future. Not only is it omegaverse but it is dystopian so it has that feeling like it can happen in the not so distant future.

With infertility and resources being a big concern for sectors, Karis knew since the day she was born that her life was not her own. She was sold into a marriage to pay for her mother's sins. All she could do is comply. Or so she thought.

Taken as a pawn in war between two factions, she soon learns that not all is as it appears. She was always told the 'Uncaged' savages were little more than beasts. But the savage that took her is more than a beast, he makes her feel more because Axil is more. He is an Alpha and her knows something about Karis too. She's more than a little human. The more they fight the growing chemistry between them, the more destiny seems to draw them together.

It's just the beginning of this new series, but I already lol forward to the next book in the series and to see what other characters that may be introduced.

Interesting story line, it starts off with Karis being kidnapped by Alpha's so that they can use her as leverage against the man that she is promised to. There is an underlying plot that will continue in the next book, and while Karis gets an HEA with her Alpha in charge Alix, the ending of the book leaves you wanting the story to continue now.

The character development was well done with Karis coming into her own from a subservient girl doing what is expected of her to redeem her mother and family and she develops into a strong, enduring woman with a very caring and tender heart and she speaks her mind, bringing about a huge improvement in the her life and happiness. Alix is a very protective Alpha male with his own reasons for his actions, I loved how protective and caring he is towards Karis and the lengths he will go too, just to ensure her wellbeing, safety, happiness and a small measure of freedom after he kidnaps her. Great story, can't wait for the next book.

Karis has known that she will be married to a man she didn't know or love since she was a young girl. She just turned eighteen and she is celebrating her birthday alone when one of the savages steps out of the trees, and she knows she can't escape. Alix is one of the Uncaged, an Alpha. He and his kind were created to be super soldiers before the world collapsed. Now he will take what the man who double crossed his people has bragged about. He has every intention of returning Karis to he people, but it doesn't long for him to discover that she is an extremely rare human omega. Now he knows he can't let he go, he wants her for himself.
Fascinating, and well written characters fighting to survive in a world turned savage by the destruction of civilization. Action, violence, and some steam with unexpected twist in the plot that kept me engrossed to the last page. I'm looking forward to the next book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this as an ARC
In a world annihilated by disease and devastating government control, small groups of people survive. Karis lives in a sector where the governor, her uncle, intends to marry her to another from a different sector. When she is taken hostage her world is turned upside down.
Axil is one of the uncaged, a group descended from men who were injected with alpha wolf DNA to create a super soldier. He doesn't know his actions at taking Karis will set in motion circumstances that bring out the truth that has been buried for years.
This story takes off from the beginning and I read it in one sitting. There is action, suspense, intrigue, and a blazing passion that defies everything. I can't wait to see what happens in the next series in this book and which Alpha's life will be changed.

I liked this story. It was slow to start so that you could get the background story and then the characters started to emerge. Karis is a human who has lived in the Legance sector all her life. She is taken as a hostage buy the "unchained" who are Alphas that has been experimented on with wolf DNA. Axil is the Alpha that had taken Karis to get back half of the oil that his village was promised. But both Axil and Karis find out that she is an Omega but not just any Omega but a human Omega which is rare. Axil and Karis finally fall what they each were born to do. MATE. There was plenty to read. Kidnapping, lies, threats, fear, but most of all an Omega story that the woman is treated as a treasure not a commodity to be taken against her will. It might have had a slow burn but it was a good story. I will be reading the next book in this series. I received an ARC copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Axil tells Karis are interesting characters. You get to be in both of their heads at times so you can understand their personalities through how they see the world. I like that Karis is a bit unsure about things she feels like she has been unexposed rather than naïve. I think the author did a good job of introducing the world and how it runs as well as who the uncaged are naturally. It didn't feel info dumpy but I also didn't feel confused. There is clearly more details to be discovered but what was necessary for this book was explained well.

I enjoyed this book both on its own and as a intro to a new series. The book ends a bit quickly, but it relates to an overall arch so you can tell there is definitely more to come. So it is a great way to get interested in the series without a true cliffhanger.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I found this an interesting start to a new series, but it does read as a first book. There are some rough edges to the story and world-building has a good base, but has room for more depth to be added. I liked Axil, he is a bit rough around the edges at times, but shows good character through his interactions with Karis. I'm not real sure about Karis. I get that she is an omega, and that means she is more submissive, but I never entirely understood why she was so willing to follow along with the arranged marriage. The Uncaged were interesting as a group, what little we learn about them, and I'm interested in learning more in the coming books.

The ending is rather To Be Continued, not really a cliff-hanger for the MCs, but definitely loose-ends that will continue in the next book.

Seriously finish the book!

Ok, I understand book series with the same underlying issue taking place throughout the entire series. Like it takes the whole group of characters to bring the bad guy down. I’ve read those type of stories and some are really good. It’s the authors like this one who cannot pull it off that bother me. You can still write those type of stories but still finish the book. And to be honest, I first thought the next book would be a continuation of this one so while I was annoyed, I wasn’t too upset. But then she makes a note that Karis and Axil’s story is done. She didn’t finish their story. The end. I can’t read books by an author that doesn’t finish the book. Not the bad guy part, the main character part. So I won’t be reading further books by this author.

This is the first book in a new series for Amber and I was invested enough by the end of this that I will read more in the series. A few times the story line became a little long winded that is why I gave four stars instead of five

Most of her life Karis has known that she is promised to one of the uncaged super soldiers bred with wolf DNA before the world collapsed she is payment for her father's sins he failed to deliver the oil that the uncaged needed Now at the age of eighteen they have come to collect her. Alix is one of the alphas of the uncaged and it is him she is promised to though he has every intention of returning her to her people That is until he discovers she is a rare human omega now he wants her for his own Can they have a future You will have to read to see

Same samE

Gave it three stars cause it DID have a small.plot and slightly bigger plot ,but rest was same alpha, omega book I ever read only shorter.
