Painting the Mists #10

Words of Creation

Rate this book
Cha Ming and Huxian are back at the bottom of the food chain. Emperors and immortals would kill for their secrets.

The Inkwell Plane is a magical place. Daoist arts and technology work hand in hand, and transcendents are on friendly terms with demigods and demons. But not all is well.

As a new ascendant, there aren’t many people who are weaker than Cha Ming. He must fight to prove his worth and carve out a place for himself in this dog-eat-dog world. To succeed, he may need to share more secrets than he’s comfortable with.

Huxian and his friends find themselves surrounded by strange new customs and powerful demons. Why toe the line when they can start breaking rules the moment they land? Its too bad demonic society doesn’t take kindly to thieves and scoundrels. They’ll need to adapt if they ever hope to be reunited with Cha Ming.

One man. A pack of rowdy demons. A world that’s falling apart. It’s rotten at its core, and no god, demon, or immortal can save it.

Patrick Georges Laplante was born in a small town in the Canadian prairies in 1987. He began publishing Painting the Mists online under the pseudonym RedMirage in January 2018.

An engineer by trade, he graduated from the University of Alberta in 2009 and completed his master's degree in 2011. While writing and engineering have little in common, he actively utilizes his experiences and attention to detail in fleshing out a vivid world and answering the "whys," which are often left unanswered in Xianxia fiction.

As an avid vegan, he aims to prompt internal reflection in his readers through various themes like non-violence, choice, and begging the question: Is personhood restricted to humanity? And what is proper conduct, morality, and love?

His work is inspired by a combination of Western fiction, Dungeons and Dragons, Chinese web novels, and various Japanese, Korean, and Chinese comics and illustrated novels.

Patrick's hobbies include: reading, board games, and taekwondo.

Yea so I finally had it with this author. It's the same thing over and over again. MC and his group of demon friends get separated only too survive by the slimmest of margins. Then at around the end of the book they miraculously manage to find one another again. Now even worse than that the entire reason the MC has kept fighting was to find his beloved who died. Since reincarnated has had a very heavy emphasis in the series so far. The lord of the underworld said that her finding love was new and all. In other words the author has strung us along for idk how many books. Only too make it in too a love triangle with the only friend the MC has on this new planet. Yeah the author made the love of the MC's life reincarnate so they would meet and he would have his heart broken .When he finds she is engaged to his new friend and fuck all of us who had been rooting for them too be together again. This is retarded writing and I seriously spit on this author I am just so pissed off by the terrible writing.

I genuinely think the author thought it would be okey to just ... redo the start of a story after 9 books.
Our mc climbs to the transcendent realms and then he finds he is basically nothing but a begginer cultivator which yeah makes sense, but apparently transcendents are looked down on, why beacuse oh you were born on a lower plane and are trash
... when in fact the opposite would be true people who acend are the ones who struggled against their fates and reached the peak and moved on, their wills are strong, their instincts are honed but no they are just trash, you would think after the infinity of time the worlds have been around there would have been so many acenders to prove that they are no different and systems set in place for them to not be abused but no apparently they just dont deserve anything and if you are too good they can just kill you, the author really let his brain go with this one

Also heavy spoilers
The mc makes a few friends and they all die but one beacuse a young lord decided so beacuse his f, even with all the cliches this is pushing it, there must be millions of stories of people pushing someone down for them to later come for revenge so they still just go around doing whatever, the beginning plot of any cultivation story has been taken and put here just with more :powerful" people

Also after being stringed along for multiple books with the romance the author makes a love triangle with one of the few friends of the mc, i get making the mc suffer in books, but here its to the point he is just doing it for the sake of it

Also the karma system makes no sense and all the nuances the author tries to add in make it make it more redundant, people can have positive halos but they are murder hobos who kill people for fun and oh you kill a few demons and your okey when its mentioned that karma ties everyone

I am extremely dissapointed with this and cannot understand how it has the score it has

Another amazing installment!

This series has been one of my genre favorites since day one of book one and ten books in, it still hasn't disappointed me. With the beginning on book ten we get a Fantastic set up for a new ark and a comfortable look at some real power checks for iur MC. From a genius to a worm is how this boom starts and its refreshing after seeing Du Cha Ming make it as far as he has. Not to mention Huxian who, with the help of his friends, get up to more hijinks while also introducing a bit of light LitRpg elements into the story. Reading this, you will be in for quite a ride.

Forget everything you loved about this series so far, things got better

Well is obvious a series and continues previous plots, but even the writing style is different.

It is now funny; the story's pace is quick, packed with action scenes and some childish moments.

I still hope the hero dies, preferably in a ridiculous but horrendous way, but if we forget the hero, the story is perfect.

Great addition to the series!

I really enjoyed how this book gets into Cha Ming's advancement without leaving out the side stories that really help fill out the world. Loving the series and waiting for more!

Good continuation but...

Two major criticisms here. 1. The demon beast quest crap almost killed it for me. This is not supposed to be a LitRPG. Please never do that again. And 2. That was a seriously cliche ending. The moment that character first appeared I thought to myself I hope there isn't a bull crap love triangle. Book 11 love triangle here we come...

Same great mc and his demon allies, new world, same old problems. Great book and intro into a higher world. I am very satisfied with how this is going. Very much an enjoyable continuation of a genre favorite series.

Another great addition!

This adds another great chapter in Cha Ming’s story. The writing is fantastic and you can feel the emotion and struggle that our MC is experiencing.

Great Series

A good advancement of the storyline and universe. Did a great job balancing his power against being new to the plane.
