Rate this book

Unfortunately this one is a DNF for me - the timing is simply wrong.
This is a pleasant and interesting memoir about the author's early attempts at solo travel - resuming an ongoing interest in Japan. She had stayed in Japan for a year as a language student in her 20s, and almost 20 years later, this was where she went when she undertook her first solo trip. In some ways she saw it as returning to her hometown.

I have been reading up on Japan, primarily Tokyo, in preparation for my own travels, and it is incredibly disconcerting to be reading about the author's travels in Tokyo, yet not recognise the locations because I don't recognise them through their Chinese names. Since I don't feel the urge google as I go, I will need to leave it for another time.
