I thought being Karma would be a cinch. I thought wrong.
Turns out someone knows what I did to my jerk ex and his sleazy girlfriend. Or at least they left me a note telling me they knew, not that they bothered to sign it.
When my ex is reported missing and cops from my old town start sniffing around I know I’m in trouble.
What’s worse?
I find a body outside my house. The town philanderer.
Now everyone’s giving me the side eye, including the man I had a crush on all those years ago, and rumors are flying, which jeopardizes my new job. To top it all off I still don’t know how to use my powers.
I thought life was supposed to get easier as you got older?

Karma's Spell (Book 1) was a great read. Emma (FMC) was a cracking character that i loved from the beginning. So the 2nd book (Karma's Shift) in this series was just as good. If youve read the first book then you know what happened to her Ex and his horrible girlfriend. Emma's little coven (yes that was a pun because their witches) of friends just made this series for me. Theyre witty, fun and a down right great laugh. Things get complicated when Emma finds a body which just happens to be on her doorstep so to speak. A murder, plenty of laughs and a hot Sherriff/Ex School friend. It all makes for a cute great read
I love this series! Paranormal romance and cozy mystery rolled into one.
After returning to her childhood home to regroup following her marriage breakdown, Emma is learning how to handle her new powers. Of course, things never go as planned, and she's faced with both her own and Beth's pasts coming back to haunt them. There's also the very slow burn romance building with her former teen crush.
Overall, a fun read, if a little different pace from what I'm used to from this awesome trio of authors.
Something awful killed Beth’s nasty ex and left him for Karma to find.
Emma keeps finding threatening notes saying she did something bad to her ex and his girlfriend. Turning them into toads was strictly accidental. But will Karma affect her too?
Can she help resolve things for Beth? Will they be able to survive the levels of bad lurking ? And what about retired sheriff Daniel the bear shifter?
These sister witches have more challenges ahead, if they can survive them
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Emma is enjoying back in her hometown and is learning her new powers of karma. When one of her close friend's ex husband winds up dead and her friend is in danger it's time for the power of karma to unite with her witch friends and solve the mystery. It's a great read with a few twists a very likable middle aged main character. Her friends are awesome and make the story that much more enjoyable. Loved every single minute of it. I volunteered to read this book via Booksprout.
After all the action of turning her slimy ex and his younger mistress into toads (seems fitting) moving back to her hometown, discovering she is karma personified (don't be rude to barista around her you never know where your coffee will land up) finding out her childhood friends are actually witches. Her schoolgirl crush? yeah he's a bear shifter! Just as Emma is getting over all these revelations her brother was kidnapped, with the help of her witchy girl friends they find him and are able to help a group of preternatural beings at the same time. (no spoilers from me)
Just as Emma is getting used to her new reality, mainly by sitting in coffee shops and making sure karma can be a bit.. hard on nasty people, she comes home to a body, on her doorstep, and its her friends ex husband, the one she threatened! With the sheriff looking at Emma closely, the old sheriff (being Andrew the schoolgirl crush) making tentative steps towards romance with her, Emma and the ladies must once again involve themselves in a supernatural murder mystery that hits close to home. Then there's the problem of her "missing" ex-husband, the one she turned into a toad by accident, he has been reported missing. worse it seems someone knows what she did, but until this murder is solved that one is on the back foot, but who would blackmail karma?
A really interesting preternatural cosy. I do enjoy the older characters I can relate to them and don't feel quite so icky with the romance (Seriously I am 45 sometimes reading about a 20 year old's romance makes me feel a bit of a perv!) I love that karma is a person, (though does that mean there are many karma's all over the world dealing with all the people who deserve their comeuppance or is it purely focused locally where karma lives??) The romance with Emma and Andrew is sweet, both have sore hearts for different reasons and are tiptoeing around their feelings for each other. Clever storyline with great teasers for what's to come.
This book was wonderful! I love this series. I am so excited to read the rest in this series. I love how the main character is an older character. I love that she has friends that are down with her until the end. I am excited to see the romance evolve. I am so glad it is a slow burn romance. This story line was great.
In Book 1, when Emma’s ex shows up with his new lady-friend, Emma thought she might have turned them into toads! In fact, that was what prompted her to head back to her hometown of Mystic Hollow. Anyway, she had been right about the toad incident which would get a second look now as someone sends a note to say they know what she did. So now the cops will be investigating for foul play. And it also wasn’t helpful that she found a body slumped over on her porch when she got home. The large potted plants kept the body from being seen from the road. She headed inside the house but looked back and screamed as she saw a ghost there now hovering above the corpse. It told her she was in big trouble, so she screamed again, ran into the house and locked herself in the bedroom. The house creaked, so she grabbed her cell phone to call for help.
Daniel, a bear shifter, scented a stranger, definitely not from Mystic Hollow, and began to follow it to issue a warning about being this deep in his family’s land. Whatever this scent was, he had a feeling it would be trouble. Beside his truck, he heard his cell phone ring. The call had been from Emma. She only called him when she was in trouble. Semi-retired, he would still make time to help her. She asked him to come over to her house… quickly. And when he got there, the police were there already. He started talking to her when the Sheriff walked in to tell him they identified the body as Beth’s ex-husband, Roger. Having one of her friend’s exes murdered at her house would complicate things for Emma, especially since she had loudly threatened the victim a few days ago. That puts her on their list as the primary suspect, and everyone is looking at her suspiciously. Can they find the real murderer? And who was the shifter with the odd scent that Daniel had started to follow?
This was a good continuation of this series. Emma may be a middle-aged heroine, but this feisty female can still stir up some trouble! Grab your copy and see if her friends can help her find the real killer. Would she and Daniel finally go on the date they had been hoping to have? And then another note was taped to her door: “You did a bad thing to your husband and his lover. Karma comes for everyone.”
I have to say, I didn't like it quite as much as the first one. I liked the story (what little there was of it), liked this concept of following Beth's story but continuing with Emma's POV (mainly). Although that may have been part of the problem. Normally I prefer series that follow one MC rather playing"relay" among a group of family, friends or whatever, but of course this can also backfire when like Emma, the mc starts to become annoying and I dunno a bit whiney or sth.
Speaking of POVs, the few 'Daniel' chapters felt somewhat disjointed from the rest of the story this time.
Emma developed this annoying habit of going off on a tangent, usually in her thoughts, but sometimes in conversations as well. Especially annoying when it's in situations where she's opening the door or answering the phone greeting someone and then you get a page of two of rambling thoughts before the actual story continues.
But what I really didn't like was the way the Emma/Daniel storyline developed. They're supposed to be two grown adults in their forties, but barely manage a normal conversation with each other, much less admit that they like each other. Plus all the secrets she was keeping from him... a lie by omission is still a lie and for someone with her history, you'd think she'd be a bit more sensitive about this and also that she'd want to start off right with him. It's soured their relationship for me quite a bit. I mean as a whole they just feel awkward and weird right now, which is sad, cause I really liked them as a potential future couple in the first book. Now I'd rather there wasn't a love interest at all than this blunderfest.
Oh, and of course another cliffhanger. ugh. This one felt even more like one then the last one.
On a technical note. A few minor typos, but I did notice several slip ups in to present tense. Usually only for a single sentence and then it was back to normal.
I'm starting to detect this trend with these authors. I always start out liking, enjoying their stories a lot. Fun, quirky, unique ideas with good stories, likeable characters and then somehow they manage to spoil it (for me at least) somewhere along the way.
This is book two of the Magical Midlife in Mystic Hollow and the main character is Emma aka Karma and after returning to her former home, she was faced with her ex-husband and his young mistress, only to accidently turn them into toads! She’s trying to get her head around all of this and to hide it from anyone else. She also soon finds out that her old friends are actually witches and her best friend is Beth, whose ex-husband turns up dead on Emma’s doorstep after she had threatened him, leaving Emma as the main culprit. Bring in Emma’s former crush, Daniel, now an ex-sheriff and also a bear shifter, who comes to help to investigate the murder, bringing old feelings back to the fore. It also brings in her other former friends, all independent witches, Carol and Deva, as well as Beth. Emma has to try and get a handle on her magic, but she soon gets a threat, from someone who says they know what she did to her ex, in a series of handwritten notes! Emma’s ex has now been reported missing by someone and of course Daniel is notified about this investigation by the current sheriff as well. Someone is trying to blackmail Karma herself and that doesn’t bode well. The death of Beth’s ex-husband, soon turns out not to be natural as first thought, and definitely of supernatural nature, bringing Daniel into the case. Links to Beth’s ex-husband missing business partner and a very nasty and dangerous cursed creature, which is coming for Beth! The women all stick together to solve the case, but still need a bit of extra assistance to do so. A nice touch of romance starting up between Emma and Daniel, as well as Emma working on testing out her Karmic abilities, mainly in the local coffee shop! An amusing tale and more to come, as she grows into her powers and old friendships gain traction. She has made her decision as to where she wants to place herself for the future and will need to sort out matters at her former home and also reverse the spell on her own ex and his bit on the side! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
KARMA'S SHIFT is the second book in the Magical Midlife in Mystic Hollow series. Though this story would stand on its own, there is reference to circumstances from the first book that would make it more enjoyable if you read the series in the order of release and that is my recommendation.
I love this group of friends. They prove the adage that true friends can pick up a conversation five years later as if no time has passed at all.
Emma is starting to understand her powers and even get a little control over them…. sometimes. It’s not easy being the new witch on the block, especially when you’ve already been around the block a time or two. I love that her powers aren’t easy, and she has to figure it out. There is no manual. There is know-it-all explaining anything to her. She knows what she is, and she has the support of people she can truly trust. What more does anyone really need? The one thing she has figured out is that not all karma is bad and that feels very, very good.
I absolutely devoured and enjoyed every minute I spent on this fun read and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, .
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: KARMA'S SHIFT Series: Magical Midlife in Mystic Hollow #2 Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: received as an unedited ARC / errors excused Received from: L.A. Boruff
I love how this book starts with Emma sitting in a café, watching the people around her, and practices her magic by inflicting Karma on the people who deserve it. I would have thought Karma would be something more passive; and was happy to see her take things into her own hands to learn the nuances of her magic and start to control it better. She also doesn’t wait around for the big bad alpha bear to come to her rescue. I do wish they would partner up more and work together, but it’s empowering to see her and her friends take the reins and solve their own mystery surrounding Beth’s ex-husband.
I applaud the authors for streaming together a coherent story between the three of them. It’s very hard to distinguish where one author starts, and another jumps in; which I definitely appreciate. Just the idea of someone gaining the powers of Karma is fascinating for me, and especially with the build up throughout this story leading to the next one where Emma goes home to face the music regarding HER ex-husband. By the end, I was really amped up and ready to jump into the next story as soon as it’s released. Don't get me wrong; I love seeing her set down roots in Mystic Hollow, but I canNOT wait until she heads home to face her next challenge. I hope it lives up to the hype!
This is a light-hearted horror story featuring witches, shifters, ghosts, a wolfman, and Karma. Expect humor, friendship, some horror, and suspense. Karma's a Bitch, except in this story, she's taken on human form. After turning her husband and his new squeeze into toads and resolving a few problems in her new incarnation in Book 1, Karma AKA Emma, is now living in Mystic Hollow with her brother in the family home, surrounded by magic and supernaturals. She's distributing good and bad karma, depending on what is deserved and enjoying her new role, until starting to receive ominous, threatening messages. Daniel, her bear shifter friend, wants to take care of her, protect her from harm and unpleasantness. A dead body on her porch, a ghost giving a frightening warning, police investigating her as a murder suspect, even talking animals accusing her of something cause her to seek help. With her witch friends Beth, Carol, Deva, and the local coven, they work together to solve the mystery of a suspicious disappearance and a murder while they come to terms with their relationships with each other and others.
Emma continues to learn about her powers as Karma along with her friends who are witches. Roger, who was Beth's husband, is found dead on Emma's porch. Police rules it was from natural causes but Beth and her friends do not believe that. Tiffany, younger sister of Beth and wife to Roger, asks Emma to help discover who killed Cliff, partner to Roger as she believes Beth is in mortal danger. The ladies go to the local coven for help and find Beth in fact, is in mortal danger. After much thought and investigation, they go to Tiffany for more information which leads them to a powerful witch who did put a curse on Cliff.
Cliff is found, Emma uses her karma powers to keep him from killing Beth. He is turned into a rat. Emma takes Cliff the Rat to Daniel to take care of and Emma and Daniel move their relationship up a couple of notches. They are going out to dinner, right after Emma and her friends return to Springfield and take care of the mess Emma left behind

Emma gets home from practicing her karma powers, she has the worst suprise. Emma finds a dead body on her porch. She doesn't know who it is, but she calls Daniel. Emma has the police there, she finds out it is her best friends ex-husband Roger. Emma is approached about Beth, Emma doesn't know what to do. She gathers her friends to see what is the deal with Roger and why Emma could be in danger. Emma and her friends will have to find out who is behind the crime. Emma feelings for Daniels are not going away, she know she will have to address her issues at home before anything.
This was an interesting story. Like how Emma is learning her powers, her bond with her friends and how she is with her brother. Emma and the others will have a lot to deal with the lies and past deceit. Looking forward to the next book, hopefully the husband as a toad will be wrapped up and we can move the character forward.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Thanks to Karma, Emma has had a shift in not only her living arrangements and reconnecting with friends but also with her overall perception of life. She is living up to the reputation of Karma to be sure, and I was waiting with anticipation every time she served up a good dose of it to those who were in need of a few life lessons. With great power comes great responsibility and Emma, with the support of her uniquely talented friends, is taking it quiet seriously. This was a great follow up to the first book, Karma's Spell. This is turning out to be a great, slightly edgy, paranormal cozy series. You get the mystery, the murder, the normal-ish sleuth, supporting friends, and a touch of romance. I also like the multiple voices and viewpoints that are used, with most of it coming from Emma. Looking forward to reading the others!.

We "see" spirits as angels, death as the Grim Reaper holding a scythe, .... SO Why can't Karma be a middle-aged woman? But as karma SHOULD KNOW paybacks area a..... This book quite possibly has all of the paranormal characters in one place. Plus it is on-trend as the main character is over thirty and has an established friend and family base. Which good to have some stability as she starts a new job but mostly she needs her friends and family on her side as she becomes suspect #1 when her ex disappears. Yes, there is some sexual content and meets the standards of the PNR genre But really this book is more than just a paranormal romance. I did read it WITHOUT reading #1, which I think I will need to read and then reread this one to understand Emma and how she came to be what she is in this book and when the book ends you KNOW there will be a book 3 and YOU know you will read it. Well done.
Life is all about change and our heroine has her hands full dealing with the changes in her life. And it just isn't getting any easier.
This is book two of the series. It does pretty well as a standalone. All the essential bits are covered early on.
This is a paranormal romance story with a mature heroine and a small town with unexpected magic. The story and characters are both well written and easy to read. Both the plot and the setting have a lot of secrets and watching the slow reveal is half the fun of the story. If you thought things were interesting in the first book, things are really heating up now. So definitely still a fun read and I look forward to seeing more adventures in the future.
Highly recommended.

**Warning** there is a cliffhanger of sorts. It’s more book-hook than cliffhanger, but it does mean that there is a part of the story that will leave you hanging. This book continues Emma’s story that began in book one of the series... it doesn’t stand alone, read book one first.
Emma is getting used to using her powers as Karma, although she still needs practice. And when her friend Beth runs into a spot of trouble, Emma comes to the rescue!
An enjoyable trip back to Mystic Hollow, where all kinds of magic happen. With a number of interesting events going on, there is a lot for the reader to enjoy. If you enjoy PWF and Paranormal mystery, then this is a series you will enjoy.
Emma was sitting in a coffee shop giving out karma to people that were just nasty it left her satisfied when she returned home Emma didn’t notice anything until she was near her door there was a dead body hanging over her railing Emma wanted to scream and she did when she saw the ghost of the man, Emma has enough problems with someone threatening her they know what she did to her husband and his mistress by turning them into toads. Has karma turned against Emma because the police believe that Emma had something to do with the man’s death and the only way that she can clear her name is to find the killer. I’m loving this series and I can’t wait to read more and I highly recommend this book/ series.
A very interesting read, although at times I felt a little lost but realised that is due to not having read the previous title in this series. But then again it was still very easily read and followed for not having read the previous title of Karma's Spell. Loved the characters of Emma and her friends and the wonderful developing romance with Daniel. Loved the idea of Emma being Karma and her powers in being able to dish out just desserts to those in the wrong. I guess this is now my reasoning to go back to reading the title of Karma's Spell (book 1) to fully understand how she got this power. Looking forward to reading more on this series now.

Oh I am loving this series. It is a stunning series. It has so much drama and suspense. There are twists and turns around every corner. There is one big mystery that has plagued both books so far and my goodness it has me guessing who it could be. The writing is magnificent and the characters are stunningly beautiful. I absolutely adore there personalities and strongly they are felt throughout the story. Karma’s little gifts have me laughing my behind off. This is a fantastic story and series. It is an absolute must read!!!!!!

Emma, Daniel and the rest are back for more adventures. Emma is receiving more threatening notes, plus a dead guy on her front porch. The town (Beth really) is suffering from attacks from a strange kind of shifter. Daniel is a great love interest for Emma, I just wish that they would work on their communication a little bit. They both want the same thing, but are afraid of scaring off the other person, so them being together could take awhile. I would hazard a guess that book 3 will dive more into the ex and putting things back together there.

Something nasty killed Beth’s ATROCIOUS ex and left him for Karma to find. Lucky Emma!
Emma is receiving threatening notes about having done “something bad” to her ex and his girlfriend. I mean, turning them into toads was an accident but Karma see it that way?
Will Emma be able to resolve things for Beth? Will everyone survive the levels of bad news lurking about? And what about retired sheriff Daniel the bear shifter?
These sister witches have more challenges ahead, if they can survive them. This book is well written with characters that jump off the page, a world that is fun and well built and a plot that just seems like real life with a little extra thrown in for fun.
Emma feels like she’s getting a handle on being Karma and is beginning to enjoy her new role. Her group of witch friends and she have become as close as ever and they are helping guide her through supernatural life, while her budding relationship with bear shifter Daniel is moving slowly forward. Now a dark evil is threatening Mystic Hollow and someone is leaving Emma notes about her ex. The characters are well written and three dimensional and the storyline and action are fast moving. I like that the issues are very mundane; divorce, growing older, new relationships, and the supernatural is an added bonus. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
Well, you already know that we have Karma and 3 witches with very cool talents. In this book Beth needs a little help from her friends.
She’s already been completely messed over by her now ex-husband, as well as the one person who owed her the most and never should have betrayed her. Then her ex’s sins come back to haunt him. A betrayer wants her help. And Beth is looking at questions from the police, as well as threats from someone much more dangerous.
I love how these women stand up for, and help, each other. And the peeks into Karma’s relationships with her brother and her kid are just so sweet.
It was definitely karmastic..i love love love Emma and her friends. More we go into this series and more content I’m about reading it. Emma is getting little better grip of her magic however of course troubles are never far away. Her past is chasing her but present is not easy either. She is ready for everything for her friends, but so they are as well and it’s exactly what she might need in the next part (which I hope will come soon) . This book gripped my shirt from the very first page and din’t let go till the last. I honestly loved it.
Loved this second book! This group of ladies are hilarious and they get stuff done all the time. I can’t wait to see what the next one has in store for readers. I wonder if the ex and his girlfriend will become human again or if the law will come after Karma. So many questions, and impatience to find out what happens with the witches next.

This book had me captured from the start and I couldn't put it down. Emma is a middle aged woman who is given what I think would be the most amazing power ever which is dealing out karma whether good or bad. The story flows so well that it just sucks you in. The characters are amazing I especially love her friend Deva the magical chef, because food is magical to begin with but add some actual magic to it and it's fire. I highly recommend this series.
There's a murder in Mystic Hollow. I just love this series. Mystic Hollow is a town i want to live in. I wish I could be part of the friendship group Emma has. This book is an easy and fun read. Marble has my heart, she's one of the best character's. This book has Karma, witches and shifters, there's nothing better. I hope there is a third book in this series. If you like PWF books you'll love this series too. I highly recommend this whole series.
The girls are back and so is Karma...It was funny and cute and had just a bit of danger, terror, and uncertainty. I laughed and enjoyed the story. Was a quick read that grabbed me and kept me reading to the end just to see what was going on and how the girls would get to the bottom of everything. Really loved how certain people got their Karma both important to the story and just random side characters.
