Peter Allen David, often abbreviated PAD, was an American writer of comic books, novels, television, films, and video games. His notable comic book work includes an award-winning 12-year run on The Incredible Hulk, as well as runs on Aquaman, Young Justice, SpyBoy, Supergirl, Fallen Angel, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099, Captain Marvel, and X-Factor.
His Star Trek work included comic books and novels such as the New Frontier book series. His other novels included film adaptations, media tie-ins, and original works, such as the Apropos of Nothing and Knight Life series. His television work includes series such as Babylon 5, Young Justice, Ben 10: Alien Force and Nickelodeon's Space Cases, which he co-created with Bill Mumy.
David often jokingly described his occupation as "Writer of Stuff", and he was noted for his prolific writing, characterized by its mingling of real-world issues with humor and references to popular culture, as well as elements of metafiction and self-reference.
David earned multiple awards for his work, including a 1992 Eisner Award, a 1993 Wizard Fan Award, a 1996 Haxtur Award, a 2007 Julie Award and a 2011 GLAAD Media Award.

This was the best Hulk story line. There is a lot going on and some good cameos throughout. Peter David explored the idea of The different versions of the hulk being alternate personalities inside Banners head, caused by childhood abuse.

The artwork is really disappointing, but wouldn't be so off-putting if it were not for the awful colouring job.

En definitiva esta colección de Marvel se está llevando todas mis buenas críticas, tiene mucho sentido que hayan elegido precisamente estos números para re-lanzar.

El increíble Hulk: Gritos silenciosos nos presenta una tercera personalidad para el pobre Bruce Banner: Hulk gris.

En este número nos muestra a esta nueva versión, una mejorada del gigantón verde que, al parecer, solo puede decir frases como "Hulk aplasta". Debo admitir que esta versión me gustó mucho más, tiene claros (que no dependen solo de la violencia con la que conocemos al personaje) y tiene comentarios ingeniosos de vez en cuando, me sacó más de una risa a lo largo de las páginas.

En este libro conocemos un poco sobre el pasado de Banner desde otro punto de vista, ingresando a su propia mente para conocer qué desencadena a estas personalidades que lo aquejan.

Hablando sobre los personajes, me encanta que Marvel ponga personajes de otras series en este número, incluso si son un efecto visual(?

El final ES IMPOSIBLE QUE LO DEJEN ASÍ, MI POBRE CORAZÓN💔

En resume, es una historia divertida pero importante para conocer acerca del personaje principal: Bruce Banner, nos lleva a través de una historia nueva pero con muchos giros a su pasado. El dibujo te atrapa desde el minuto uno y te envuelve en las situaciones que se presentan.

Още от началото на „Върховна колекция графични романи Marvel”, на гръбчетата виждахме страховития, мускулест образ на Хълк. Но ето, че сега, той (все така гневно) е и на преден план в том 8 – „Хълк: Тихи писъци“. Хълк винаги е бил от любимите ми герои на Марвел – ученият Брус Банър бива облъчен с гама-радиация, докато се опитва да спаси младеж, случайно попаднал в тестовата зона на военна база. В резултат, силни пориви на гняв, пораждат у Банър трансформация, която го превръща в огромен зелен, почти несломим, звяр с несравнима физическа мощ. Историите с него представят една по-фантастична интерпретация на раздвоението на личността, а същевременно има и много тупаник. Уви, Хълк няма особен успех на големия екран и в днешно време е основно второстепенен герой в лентите за Отмъстителите…но пък анимационната поредица от 90-те години, излъчвана и у нас, също както много други супергеройски анимации от онова време, перфектно поднася не само драмата, но и екшъна. Nuevo álbum de la colección Marvel Salvat y uno que me daba muchas ganas de leer, no tanto por Hulk -personaje que no es demasiado santo de mi devoción- sino por tratarse de una etapa muy famosa del gigante esmeralda, cuando el gran guionista Peter David se había propuesto patear el statu quo y darle nueva vida e ideas. De hecho, este libro recoge la etapa inmediatamente posterior a cuando Hulk/Bruce Banner suma una tercera alternativa: el Hulk gris que se vuelve un ente independiente durante las noches, se consigue un trabajo -portero de un casino de Las Vegas- y tiene un carácter bastante complicado. Sin embargo, este tomo arranca lento que da miedo. Cargadisimo de texto -globos de diálogo, cuadros de narrador, palabras, palabras por todos lados- al punto de recordar la peor y más pesada historieta de superhéroes de los 80s, las siguientes aventuras de esta Banner ahora dividido en tres tienen una vergonzosa secuencia en un convento (ridícula) y un desperdiciado cruce con algunos de los Defensores originales -Dr. Strange y Namor, anónimos ambos- antes de empezar a gana algo de ritmo e ir desarrollando la pregunta que da cuerpo a tantos cambios de personalidad: ¿Qué se esconde en el pasado de Bruce Banner que ni siquiera sus dos monstruos indetenibles pueden enfrentar? Este misterio -cuya resolución alimenta directamente la serie contemporánea Immortal Hulk- y la aparición de un muy divertido Rick Jones durante los últimos episodios ayuda a dinamizar la lectura que hasta ese momento era un yunque a arrastrar. Por fortuna, el arte de Dale Keown -la perfecta alquimia entre John Byrne y Alan Davis- es una seda, una joya a atesorar que permite siempre al menos regodearse con los dibujos.

Me meto de lleno en esta ola Marvel/Salvat/Panini, que ha inundado nuestros kioskos con este tomo que protagoniza uno de mis personajes preferidos del comic, El Increible Hulk.
Y que bueno es, poder leer al gigante esmeralda escrito por un guionista a la altura de las circunstancias, como sin dudas es Peter David, que nos mete de lleno en el conflicto interno de Bruce Banner provocado por sus múltiples personalidades y su tortuoso pasado. Hulk Gris y Hulk Verde luchan por el control, llegando incluso a indagar en recuerdos de su niñez con Doc Samson como mediador.
El encargado del dibujo es Dale Keown cuyo trabajo en esa época me parece bastante adecuado para el personaje, al que luego volverá brillantemente en la maravillosa “Hulk: The End” junto al propio David.
El tomo contiene una de las mejores historias de Hulk (en especial "Honey, I Shrunk the Hulk", #377) elegidas por un tal “Arquiologo”, en la página especializada “Multiverseros” allá por 2011.

"Тихи писъци" ми хареса. Определено виждаме много от Хълк и неговите проблеми. Като това не са само проблемите на всеки супер герой - да ступва лошите. А едни много по-сериозни проблеми - тези със самия себе си.
Този път виждаме не само 2 личности в едно тяло, а цели 3, с които Брус трябва да се справя и съобразява. Всеки един от образите на Банър е толкова различен и същевременно еднакъв. Това прави цялата драма.

Отделно, целият комикс, макар и просто извадка от една друга история, бих казала, че започва с казус, който се развива, кулминира и има добър финал (макар и отново отворен).
Доволна съм и от самото издание, както винаги ❤️

Този брой е най-голямата ми изненада досега. Глуповатият и груб Хълк, когото познаваме от предходни комикси и филми, е доста по-задълбочен, отколкото ни се вярва. Брус Банър винаги се е опитвал да овладее зеления гигант, но сега виждаме и третото му алтер его - Сивия Хълк. Разговорите и препирните между тримата са колкото странни, толкова и симпатични. Всичко това ни дава по-добър поглед върху вътрешния свят на Хълк и Банър.
Историята проследява Брус и търсенето му на любимата му съпруга, Бети Рос. Междувременно Хълк се намесва в конфликт, за да помогне на Стивън Стрейндж, а към малката група се присъединява и Намор. В последните броеве от томчето се намесват и подмолните скрълове и ситуацията става напечена.
Това отвсякъде си беше истински роман, а обемът му може само да радва феновете.

Hace años...mas de 20, creo, me compre las Guerras troyanas , en donde Peter David hacia equipo con Gary Frank y se marcaban unos números perfectos de Hulk, en donde el drama, la comedia, la acción, los diálogos..todo, todo era perfecto y preciso , por eso, no de hacerme a este tomo, lo cual es algo injusto, ya que ese nivel es muy difícil de volver a tener, y aun asi, acá hay una historia potente, que se deja leer y se disfruta, aunque hay paginas que sobran y a otras que les falta mas potencia. El arte de Dale Keown es muy bueno y dura...los 8 números, vaya a verse eso el día de hoy, aunque tiene unas caras que po Tezuka, pero es dinámico y te cuenta bien las cosas.

Přiznám se, že žádný komiks s Hulkem v hlavní roli jsem doteď nečetl. U nás vyšel v češtině jenom Wolverina a Hulk. Hulka znám spíš z filmů. Kniha The Incredible Hulk: Tiché výkřiky obsahuje sešity 370-377. Nebudu tedy psát vše, ale zkrátka..Bruce Banner má nyní nad Hulkem kontrolu. Přes den zůstává Bannerem a na noc se mění na Hulka. Abych byl přesný tak na šedého Hulka, který je inteligentnější než ten zelený. A snaží se najít svojí ženu Betty.
Komiks se mi opravdu líbil, od kresby až po různé vtípky. Souboje neprobíhají jenom na ulicích měst, ale také v Bannerově mysli.

An interesting take on Bruce Banner - The Hulk isn't just down to Banner's gamma exposure but also down to a predisposition to MPD (multiple personality disorder). The conflict between Banner, the Gary Hulk and the Green Hulk is well portrayed and believable. However, the pace is slow and the art, whilst clean and workmanlike, is nothing special.

Issue 370

My first Peter David Hulk story and I must say I really like his voice for both the 'Joe Fixit' Gray Hulk and for Bruce Banner. Hulk appears to be midway through a journey from Vegas to reunite with Betty who believes him to be dead. While in New York he bumps into Dr Strange and Namor and the three quickly get entangled in some magic-based threat.

This feels very much like a side quest to me but it has the potential to be a pretty fun one.

Issue 371

This was definitely a side quest, but a very fun one. Having Hulk hanging out with Namor and Dr Strange is good fun and I like how both he and Bruce get on with them both well.

The reveal with Betty at the end was fantastic though.

Issue 372

This was an absolutely fantastic issue, one of Hulk's best for me. Betty and Bruce both yearning for each other, Bruce thinking she's better off without him in the convent, him chasing after her once she leaves of her own will, it's really touching stuff. It's really heart warming when they embrace at the end, Bruce begging to turn into the Hulk so he can catch up with her train only for it to be revealed she got off the train because she heard him. They both just want each other, no matter how broken both their lives are, no matter how much hurt comes their way, they both want to be together and David writes that wonderfully.

Throw in a really gnarly transformation into the classic Savage Hulk and we have an all timer on our hands. I really like the idea of Joe and Savage both rattling around Bruce's head, it reminds me a lot of Immortal (or rather immortal reminds me of this).

Issue 373

We start with a really great scene of Joe Fixit trying to lock the Savage Hulk back up in Bruce's head. The way both personas DO NOT get along is really interesting and perhaps even more interesting is how much less Joe hate Bruce than the Savage Hulk does; especially as Joe seems to believe her and Bruce have had a good thing going lately and, even though he's annoyed Bruce let old greeny out, he's happy he's found Betty again.

The bulk of the issue is Bruce and Betty running from the army and hiding in the convent. When the army attacks, night falls and Joe emerges to fight. It's classic Hulk smashing tanks action, done very well and I enjoyed the added element of the army's surprise, as they were expecting the green Hulk.

After they escape Joe and Betty act hostile to one another but quickly find themselves laughing at a bad joke, I'm kinda interested to see how their relationship plays out going forward, especially compared to Betty and Bruce's

Issue 374
A solid issue which is dampened a little by just how good the last two were.

The creepy town where all the locals are acting strange is very Body Snatchers and the whole issue has a kind of 50's/60's feel to it. Hulk and Betty are here looking for Rick, who has gone missing during a book signing tour. I think looking for Rick is a logical next step following Bruce and Betty's reconnection, and it's fun seeing Rick get into trouble as per usual. I'm not entirely sure what the body snatchers (Skrulls as it turns out) want with Rick, but I look forward to finding out.

Issue 375

A pretty lighthearted romp mostly consisting of Rick Jones running around the Skrull ship pretending to be a Skrull pretending to be him and the Hulk beating the crap out of Super Skrull. Very low stakes, but some good action, though the story does seem to get a little bogged down in Skrull continuity which really wasn't needed for such a light story as this.

Issue 376

Depicting a particularly bad DID episode as both the green and grey Hulks growing out of Banner and trying to physically kill each other is horribly visceral stuff. Conversely, having Bruce, with Betty in his corner, overpower them both in an effort to reclaim control was a moment of pure satisfaction, even though I'm very fond of both Hulks

Issue 377

Sometimes you read a comic and you can just tell it's the big one. Incredible Hulk is a pure masterclass in how to take the wacky logic and decades of bogged down continuity which big comic universes have in multitudes and recontextualize it to be something concise, consistent and captivating. Taking Bruce's abusive upbringing and having that be where the Green Hulk persona is genius. Having the way Bruce has repressed his emotions from his fathers abuse takes the form of the lecherous Gray Hulk while in college is profound. Even better still is the way these revelations are depicted, with all three of Bruce's identities trapped in a dream state watching a monstrous version of their father haunt all their childhood memories.

Asking if the gamma bomb was simply just the catalyst for what let the Hulk out of Banner is very similar to the questions posed in Spider-Man Coming Home; which came first the radiation or the powers, or in Bruce's case the personas. I'd say David handles these questions even better than JMS did in Amazing, which is a rather high bar to clear. This is a must read Hulk comic, and I'm very glad I finally have.

Había leído muchos buenos comentarios de esta historia. Aunque llevo casi quince años leyendo cómics de Marvel, había leído muy pocas historias de Hulk, y nada antiguo. El año pasado leí Futuro Imperfecto también de Peter David, y ahora le doy una oportunidad a gritos silenciosos, que además era una obra inédita en México y que trajeron en la colección de Salvat.
Son nueve números. Me parece que hasta ahora es el tomo más grueso de la colección, y aunque yo pensaba que gritos silenciosos era una historia, es más bien el conjunto de historias cortas. Hay una temática central que las une a todas: las múltiples personalidades de Hulk.
La estructura de la historia de David me pareció bastante buena. Los primeros números nos plantean dónde está la personalidad verde de Hulk que se activaba con la ira. Y vemos un team up con Dr. Strange y Namor, como los antiguos Defenders. De ahí vemos una historia con Betty, y vemos algunos de los misterios sobre el Hulk Verde revelarse. Posteriormente tenemos una historia con los srkulls donde el conflicto entre las personalidades se acrecenta. Y los últimos números son un cambio de status para el personaje, una exploración profunda a la infancia de Banner y una solución entre las personalidades múltiples. Me gustó mucho eso.
La historia aborda temas psicológicos que le añaden capas de profundidad al personaje. No esperaba eso, de un personaje como Hulk que había sido bastante uni dimensional hasta ahora. Pero si me hubiera gustado que profundizara más, creo que el último número donde vemos brevemente la infancia de abuso de Banner, hubiera valido la pena que fuera más larga.
Tanto esta historia como Future Imperfect me gustaron mucho. Se ve la diferencia cuando un buen autor escribe un personaje. Podría apostar a que escribir Hulk no es una tarea fácil, pero las ideas que aportó David al Mythos del personaje, me parecen brillantes. Actualmente el run de Al Ewing también retoma aspectos interesantes de David y les da giros y nueva luz. Más gigante esmeralda bien escrito.

Hace muchísimos años leí el final de este arco en los cómics editados por Clarín. Gracias a la edición de Salvat pude completar la información que me faltaba en ese entonces.
La historia es medianamente simple: Retomando un poco los inicios del personaje, por la noche aparece Hulk gris y por la mañana Bruce Banner. Éste se encuentra solo, sin rumbo, pero el autor pronto lo hace reencontrarse con su "pandilla". Primero a través del encuentro con Namor y Dr. Strange se nos recuerda la fundación de aquel extraño supergrupo que eran Los Defensores.
Luego, David nos devuelve a dos de los personajes más icónicos de Hulk: Rick Jones y Betty Ross. Todo esto mientras Banner se esfuerza por controlar su trastorno de personalidad múltiple ocasionado por los abusos y la violencia paterna que sufrió en su infancia.
Siempre consideré que es muy difícil hacer una buena historia de Hulk. Algo similar opino sobre Superman. Son personajes tan poderosos que hacer una historia centrada en la acción o las batallas parece carecer de sentido y se agota fácilmente. Uno sabe que es muy difícil encontrar alguien que sea tan fuerte como para vencer a Hulk. En ese sentido, Peter David incursiona de forma directa en la psiquis del personaje de una forma con la cual me quito el sombrero.
Al principio pensaba votarlo con 4 estrellas, más que nada por el dibujo de Dale Keown que, personalmente, no me provoca gran cosa. Pero con su trabajo de David logró algo que, creo, ningún otro autor se animó a hacer: Con unos pocos números brinda sentido a décadas de continuidad.
Si bien tiene sus fallas y vicios (muchos propios de que sea una serie regular) Gritos silenciosos es un ejemplo de lo interesante y sorprendente que un personaje puede ser si se encuentra con el autor adecuado.

Silent Screams consists of an arc of 8 comic books (#370-77) comprising a single, long story of around 200 pages. Hachette/Panini have done a wonderful job with the printing and presentation. Apart from the 1970s series with Bill Bixby, I've never taken any interest in anything Hulk, but I'm a sucker for comic books when I really ought to know better: this is one of those occasions. This story feels less like a single story and rather more like a bunch of episodes from a larger soap opera, with no specific beginning nor ending. The first two episodes with Dr Strange and the Sub-Mariner are quite crazy, the 3rd is different and rather good, then the five remaining episodes feel like they are a group, where Banner's multiple personality disorder is explored. Apparently, this arc is considered one of the Hulk's highlights in his 50-year run for Marvel. If so, I'll skip the rest. The artwork throughout is pretty good and very dynamic. The writing is reasonable regarding pace and dialogue, but the story direction and subject matter are rather silly. I can see what they are trying to do - add the layer of complexity to Banner's character that e.g. Bruce Wayne has, but basically, the Hulk just smashes stuff and isn't some kind of cerebral gothic detective, with no particular crusade in mind, thus it doesn't really wash with the reader. I wanted to like this more than I did, and to be fair, it wasn't as bad as I had feared, as long as you only go in expecting mindless fun. Where's Mr Magee? 2.75/5

Малко късно се качих на този "влак", но надявам се няма да е фатално. "Върховната Колекция Графични Романи на Марвъл" е абсолютно попадение и ако и вие като мен имате съмнения относно тези издания, то захвърлете ги настрана и се потопете в тях смело. Колекцията включва някои от най-популярните "сюжетни арки" във комиксовата вселена на Марвъл и на цена от под 20лв. получавате над двеста страници разкошни илюстрации, добра история, биографични бележки за дадения персонаж и авторите работи по него през годините.
Конкретно "Тихи писъци" е една от популярните истории за Хълк. Последният не ми е от особено любимите герои във Марвъл вселената, но може би това се дължи на слабото му познаване от моя страна. За мен Хълк винаги е бил огромният, бутафорно-зелен простак, размахващ юмруци, но както разбрах именно от този графичен роман, той има доста сложна и трагична персонална история. Илюстрациите в комикса са разкошни, историята също е на добро ниво, макар на места да се появяваха персонажи непознати за мен ( явно толкова са ми и познанията за комиксовите герои на Марвъл).
Нямам търпение за следващите части от поредицата. А също така ще направя всичко възможно да си набавя и излезлите до този момент седем графични романа ! Препоръч ! :)

Neste volume a mente de Banner ganha nova complexidade – para além de Hulk alberga uma nova personalidade, um monstro semelhante ao Hulk mas cinzento e inteligente. Com o Hulk verde de parte, as outras duas personalidades alternam a consciência entre o dia e a noite.

Esta utilização parece coordenada até participarem numa missão que ameaça libertar, novamente, o Hulk verde que está em evidente rota de colisão com os restantes ocupantes daquela mente. O conflito adensa-se quando Banner encontra Betty num convento de freiras, como forma de encontrar alguma serenidade.

O reencontro dos dois, Banner e Betty, não ajudou a estabelecer um ponto de equilíbrio, o Hulk verde ataca o cinzento, na mente partilhada, e é Banner que vai sofrer as consequências.

Esta não foi das histórias de que mais gostei de Hulk. De visual mais difícil de interiorizar, junta uma nova entidade à mente já dividida conferindo-lhe uma complexidade desnecessária. O resultado é uma sucessão de episódios que, ao longo deste volume, não parecem ter um verdadeiro fio condutor. O final em aberto não ajuda a compor o conjunto e no final ficaram-me algumas cenas interessantes sem que a totalidade do volume me tenha agradado.

Now back in control (during the day at least) Bruce Banner is on a mission to find his wife Betty Ross. However standing in-between them finding one another is Dr Strange, Namor and an entity from another Strange Dimension, Skrulls, and a shadowy government sanctioned Freedom Force. Oh, and then there is the small problem of Banner probably being more than a little crazy. The definitive Hulk writer during the 90's, David pens a story that has plenty of action, loads of body horror (as much as the Comics Code Authority would allow), a couple of chuckles, and some continued excellent world building. Keown handles the pencils and brings forth a menacing Hulk and easy enough to follow visuals - especially when a lot of the action happens inside Bruce's mind. That said, quite often his renderings do comes across as a bit amateurish with regards to anatomy and viewing angles and at time David's script does veer slightly more to the goofy side than necessary. It's a great, solid 90's Hulk read.

La historia es bastante interesante y se acompaña muy bien del dibujo, en momentos tiende a decaer, pero en líneas generales es una buena historia de Hulk.

La historia comienza con Banner viendose superado por tener esta segunda personalidad y que se vuelve más caótico cuando vuelve la versionvñ verde y violenta ante un momento de desesperación. This is the Hulk I fell in love with when I was a kid: tragic, funny, campy, dramatic, fast paced, full of exciting adventures. One thing that made me wonder is that the Hulk's rogue gallery is not as good as, say, Spiderman's, but still the comic manages to be entertaining all the time. That's because Hulk is one of the most solid characters Marvel will ever have. Also, the twist at the end was mindblowing: it explains why the Hulk had the character it has. No spoilers here, one must read it to get amazed by the most adult and tragic argument ever explored in Hulk comics.

This might be my first review of the year!
ive always wanted to read more of Peter David's work in marvel, in particular the incredible Hulk and Captain Marvel. I really enjoyed his x factor run during the mid 2000s.
Silent screams explores what I saw in future imperfect (the final standalone story in the trade) and explores the Hulk in a psychological and traumatic context. The arts lovely and dynamic, my favourite being the first page of issue 372.

Κλασσικό και ολίγον ρετρό θα χαρακτήριζα τον συγκεκριμένο τόμο για τον Hulk. Το ενδιαφέρον που βρίσκει κάποιος είναι το πώς εντάσσεται στο κόμικ η ψυχοσύνθεση του ήρωα με διαταραχή προσωπικότητας, καθώς ο Bruce δεν έχει 1 αλλά 2 Hulk μέσα στο κεφάλι του. Όλα τα υπόλοιπα στην πλοκή τα θεωρώ λίγο υπερβολικά ή και παλιομοδιτικα, διαβάζοντάς τα κάποιος στο σήμερα.

A good read, though admittedly it’s showing its age. I don’t think it’s one of those collections that’s going to really grip you like civil war, but it has some interesting ideas and background exploration of Bruce that I really enjoyed.

I've finally met Professor Hulk and tell you this, the MCU robbed us of an epic character development not exploring how Mark Ruffalos' Hulk became intelligent.

Eu esperava q fosse melhor.
Grande parte é bem qualquer coisa, com ação genérica, tramas abruptas e acontecimentos fracos. Tendo como parte boa todo o dilema da porta que mantém os Hulks. E tbm a edição 377 que é muito boa.

Piter Dejvid je majstor koji je definitivno uobličio Hulkovu karakterizaciju. Brusova rastrojenost između Zelenog i Sivog Hulka prošarana čas kempi panelima, čas psihoanalizom unutrašnje borbe. Naravno, sve uz savršen crtež koji je otvorio eru 90.-ih.
