It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s bestselling author career.

“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”

However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a creative bone in her body. In school, math and science were her best subjects, and when it came time to pick a major in college, she chose business.

Abandoning her academic scholarship to Brigham Young University at the age of 20 in order to get married and start a family, Brenda dabbled in commercial real estate, then became a loan officer.

“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda admits. “I learned how to write by reading what others have written. The best advice for any would-be author: read, read, read….”

Brenda sold her first book, and the rest is history. Now a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, she continues to publish two or three novels a year, in a variety of genres.

Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are the proud parents of five children—three girls and two boys. Now that they are empty-nesters, she spends her free time babysitting her two grandchildren.

When she’s not with her family or writing, Brenda is usually raising money for diabetes research. To date, she's raised almost $2.6 million. Her youngest son, Thad, has diabetes, and Brenda is determined to help him and others like him. She also enjoys traveling, watching sporting events and biking--she rides an amazing 20 miles every day!

Tia Beckett is a Hollywood starlet whose career was just beginning to soar when she was involved in a devastating car accident, leaving her face scarred, maybe permanently. She retreats to her producer’s secluded guest house at his home in Silver Springs to recover emotionally and avoid the paparazzi. Unfortunately, her producer has also opened up the main house to another friend, artist Seth Turner. He’s home for Christmas and to teach a workshop for students at New Horizons, his mother’s school for troubled teens. Seth has his issues, too, as he’s still dealing with the loss of his wife who died a few years ago. Both of them have to find a way to coexist in the meantime.

This is a rather poignant story where two people are trying to find their way out of personal suffering. There are times when Seth gives Tia needed support in the moment to lift her out of self isolation and occasions when she offers him a shoulder and ear for his issues. It felt like destiny at times without being overly predictable. They both had their flaws but had good hearts with the best of intentions. I liked them individually and as the eventual couple they evolved into.

The story isn’t without conflicts as Tia’s privacy is threatened by a paparazzo looking for that one picture to reveal her injuries. Seth is also dealing with difficulties involving his former in-laws. It just made for a more compelling story without detracting from the loveliness of the burgeoning relationship, the spirit of the season and the sense of community. I love returning to this town and this was a wonderful addition. I listened to the story and the narrator is the voice of the series. Her storytelling skills enhance the experience and I liked her characterizations of Seth and Tia. I’ll always opt for the audio version because of her performance.

Keep Me Warm at Christmas by Brenda Novak is the ninth book in the contemporary romance Silver Springs series. This series is one that like a lot of romance series out there it will change the main characters with each book with the setting being the common theme between the books. This means that the series can all be read as a standalone or in any order if choosing to do so. Keep Me Warm at Christmas also changes the point of view between the two main characters to tell the story inside.

Tia Beckett grew up with a very religious family that she didn’t fit into with her dreams of becoming a star. Tia left home at an early age and made it to Hollywood where after a lot of hard work Tia finally got her break. Just when Tia was at the top of her career she was involved in a car accident that has left her face scarred and Tia wanting to hide from the world.

Tia was offered a chance to stay in her producer’s guest house while he traveled in Silver Springs and she jumped at the chance. However, Tia was not expecting to have someone else staying on the property and was quite shocked when Seth Turner arrived. Seth could see Tia’s troubles from a mile away because he had shut himself off too after the death of his wife so he knows he needs to help Tia face her accident.

Keep Me Warm at Christmas by Brenda Novak was a lovely, heartwarming tale of second chances at life and healing for the characters. It was quite touching learning of both of their lives and peeking in on their relationship. I liked both immediately and was happy to see the small town charm that you find in this series. I, myself, joined the Silver Springs series late in the game after discovering Brenda Novak’s books so I can say first hand too that they read fine without having read the entire series. Each book contains a new couple and this installment along with a few others I’ve had the chance to read are just wonderful on their own but there is a glimpse at other characters each time for those that return which I definitely will continue to do!

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

A great story about healing but that ending was way too fast.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is just something about Christmas stories that brings out the best in you. They make you smile and the feeling of warmth and family wraps you up and cocoons you. Novak is just the author to bring that feel-good story to the masses.
These two characters were so perfect for each other. I love how they balanced out their hurts and pains, then developed a beautiful story together. Once Tia came out of her shell, the story took off. Seth was a sweetheart and so in-tune with her needs, even when she didn’t realize it.
Novak brings in a bit of family time with some of the characters from Silver Spring that you may have read before. They are easily developed into the book and definitely not a requirement to read any prior books before this one.
Keep Me Warm at Christmas is balanced just right with the romance angle and family ties to create a refreshing story that leaves us with a happy ending and a happy heart. I just wish that ending did not come so quickly! I needed more of their together time! Give us an epilogue, please!
Heartwarming and wholly satisfying!
Keep Me Warm at Christmas is the ninth book in the Silver Spring series. Despite this being the ninth book, it is a stand -alone. This story about healing set in the holiday season gave me all the feels.
This installment introduces Tia Beckett and Seth Turner. Tia is a Hollywood actress whose career  was cut short by a motor vehicle accident. An accident which left her with damaging facial scars. To get away from the relentless harassments of the paparazzi, she made a hasty retreat to her producer’s guest house in Silver Spring. However, little did she know that he also provided his friend Seth Turner access to the main house.
Seth is a famous artist who returned to Silver Spring for the holidays to teach art to the troubled teens at New Horizons, the school operated by his mom. Staying in the main house will also give him the chance to work on commissioned art work. Seth still mourns his wife, who died three years ago and since then he has no interest in intimacy. However, he never counted on meeting Tia.
I have been lucky to read  a few wonderful and heartwarming holiday stories. Keep Me Warm for Christmas is another one of those stories. It kept me glued to the pages as I followed Set and Tia on their journey towards healing and a happily ever after.
Seth and Tia were awesome characters, both as individuals and as a couple. Their initial meeting may not have gotten off to a good start. However, as the story progressed, their interactions became more amicable and slowly morphed from friendship to love. Seth, however, struggled with his feelings as he sees it as a betrayal to his wife. Also, his troubled past played a role in his struggles. To understand where he is coming from, you will need to read his story. Tia came a long way from the woman who shut herself off from the outside world after the terrible accident.
Seth has a good heart, which was shown not only with Tia and his family but also with his former in laws who, for the record, were not nice people. I especially loved his interactions with Tia. He made her see that her scars did not define her, and that beauty is more than physical. Also, the way he protected her from the intrusive actions of a particular paparazzo made me swoon.
The romance that developed was a tender and emotional. I kept hoping Seth would acknowledge his feelings and let go of the hurt from his past.
Keep Me Warm at Christmas was an interesting and poignant story about two broken souls who discovered the healing power of love. The story which flowed from the pages of this book will tug on your heartstrings.
An absolute delight!! 🎄🎄🎄
Brenda Novak was able to bring two very complex and vulnerable characters, struggling with their own challenges, to befriend one another and heal. I loved the development of Tia and Seth, individually and together. Their connection and friendship was a slow build and by the end, my heart was just yearning for them to be together! Tia, what a great protagonist! She deserves it all.
Keep Me Warm at Christmas is cozy, not over the top cheesy, a bit of 🔥, and can be read as a stand alone story. I really enjoyed it! 🎄Another fantastic Christmas book to add to the list!
I loved this addition to the Silver Springs Series. The two main characters, Tia Beckett and Seth Turner, were each dealing with trying to carry on after tragic circumstances, and they both gained my compassion right away. I thought they were both very well developed characters, and I enjoyed their story. The addition of KiKi the parrot added a fun dimension to the story.
It's a great story to read during the Christmas season! Although this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend at least reading Finding Our Forever, which is the first book in the series. This will introduce the reader to Aiyana Turner and her eight adopted sons. This book focuses on the life of son #4, Seth Turner, who had been widowed after a brief and beautiful marriage to Shiloh. I very much enjoyed visiting Silver Springs once again. It's been said that, once you visit Silver Springs, you will never want to leave. It's so true!
Another five star book. What can I say? I love me some Brenda Novak. This is the 9th book in the Silver Springs series and I never hesitate to purchase her books as soon as they are released. Again, there is no putting this book down. The story of Tia Beckett, an actress, on the verge of fame for her first film, in a car accident that messes up her face.
She thinks she is hiding away, doesnt want anyone seeing her, but then finds out she is sharing a house with Seth Turner. And then we find the anguish, kindness, and heartwarming emotions. If you have never read a Brenda Novak book, you dont know what you are missing. Loved the story and looking forward to #10 in the series.
I always enjoy my visits to Silver Springs. This is a series that has recurring characters, but I have had no issues reading this series out of order. This is the newest book in the series and it is a great Christmas romance. Hollywood starlet Tia Beckett just finished her first movie when she had a serious car accident. It left her face with terrible scars and she is in hiding. She is staying at her producer's estate in Silver Springs to housesit and look after his parrot. What she was not expecting was another person sharing the estate over the holidays. Artist Seth Turner is also trying to keep a low profile after returning to Silver Springs. His wife died shortly after their marriage and not only is he still grieving her, but her parents blame him for her death. With paparazzi skulking around and a the two of them being kindred spirits, they become friends and maybe just a little bit more.
This was a quick and enjoyable read/listen. There is a Christmas setting, some family drama, baggage carried by both characters/tragedies to overcome, and of course romance. I liked both Tia and Seth. They are flawed, but still generous, caring and kind. There is a bit of tension between them at the beginning and I enjoyed watching that relationship change and grow throughout the story. They were relatable wit realistic emotions and actions. The secondary characters were relatively well developed. There were some I liked and others who played the parts of adversaries. Overall, this was a delightful Christmassy story with romance and a happy ending. The narration by Veronica Worthington was well done and enjoyable. I recommend this book in either format. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.
Tia Beckett had it all. A holiday career she dreamed of. Made famous in Hollywood. However, she had a fatal car accident that left terrible scars on her face. She is hiding away from everyone, especially the paparazzi. She has found a place to hide away and is glad to be alone. Well, that didn't last long. She discovers that someone else has booked a place at the estate where she is now staying.
Seth Turner is missing his wife. It is coming up on the anniversay of her death and the pain still cuts him like a knife. He is an artist and has agreed to teach art classes at a boys ranch. Seth discovers that he has a roommate for the duration. She is an enigmatic woman and Seth cannot help to be drawn to her. However, he soon finds his growing attraction to Tia rather disturbing, as he is still fighting his feelings for his wife.
Tia is drawn to Seth, and even learns how to deal with her scars and possibly open herself for the opportunity for love. How will Seth deal with what she finds to be terrible, and how will she find a place in his heart when he still loves his wife?
What a touching story. Oh my. I felt for both Tia and Seth. For Tia, her pain was palpable. Her fear about her appearance. especially when beauty means everything in Hollywood. What about Seth? She cannot imagine him looking past her scars.
I felt for Seth as well. His love for his wife after losing her was just so sad. But his strength of character shone through time and again. Not only was he coping with feelings of loss and trying to give himself a chance for love, the fact that he was able to see past Tia's scars was just so incredibly touching.
Brenda Novak is a remarkable author and this book was a true delight. I found it an excellent read as a standalone since I had not read the previous books, but I plan on correcting that as soon as possible.
Many thanks to Mira Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Skipped to end. So boring. Such self-indulgent main characters. I guess Seth had pretty good reason to be dysfunctional, but still…just two selfish, toxic people I didn’t care about. And really not Christmasy at all. Also, if Tia really was as good an actress as she is portrayed as being then I don’t buy that her facial scarring would have had to be the end of her career. I know that there is makeup that covers a lot, and also that they could easily just remove her scar digitally if it was that big a problem. I didn’t see why she was so utterly without hope. It’s not as if her scar had damaged her eyes or even any main features. Also—I’m not Mennonite. But I do come from a religious background and I really resented how negatively conservative values are portrayed in this book. And honestly, I don’t buy that she would come out of that background as shallow, selfish, and lacking in resiliency as we’re supposed to believe that she did.
I'm a long reader of this series. I nearly missed this release but Jonetta reminded me.
The books in the series have become less connected to the school or the town recently. I'd say this one could be read as a standalone but you wouldn't understand the depth of kindness and trust within the Turner family.
Tia and Seth both have difficult childhoods which contributed to their trust issues. There is suspense throughout as I was sure people would hurt Tia. I loved the way she handled it herself after being supported emotionally by Seth and how she assisted his issues with his in-laws. Terrific ending.
Another great book by Brenda Novak. The stories she weaves have so much depth to them. They are definitely a mark above your average romance novel. I wasn't sure I'd like a book by her involving a movie star, but it worked really well! The two "damaged" people brought together created a healing for both of them.
While I enjoyed the latest visit to Silver Springs, I lopped a star off for the offensive to me, overused trope of conservative Christian lifestyles as "bad". I spied some continuity errors as well.
I love it when an author takes me on an emotional journey and that's certainly what I experienced in this book. Seth and Tia are both complex, layered characters, each with deep emotional wounds and in Tia's case, a physical one as well. I enjoyed how the author skillfully, but gradually, moved them forward toward healing while also creating a friendship between them that gradually deepened into more. The various threads interwoven throughout the book added texture to the personal stories as well as a bit of a mystery that heightened my connection to the characters and my investment in their lives. I enjoy being surprised by both a book's characters as well as their journeys and I'm happy to say the author accomplished both in this instance. Those twists (and there were more than a few) kept me flipping pages, unsure in which direction the story might turn around the next corner, and happily celebrating the hard-won conclusion when it arrived.
Keep Me Warm at Christmas is the ninth book in Brenda Novak's Silver Springs series. There are a few characters from previous books that have key roles in this one but readers new to the series should have no problem enjoying this new book on its own.
Rated 5 stars because it simply fulfilled everything I love and enjoy about reading a romance and the final book in a series I truly enjoyed ! Sweet romance, some suspense in the quaint town of Silver Springs! The last book in a series by Brenda Novak. This book has a hometown feel mixed with an LA star studded actress who was scarred for life in a car accident! She met Seth and his wonderful family when she was house sitting, where she went to hide while she healed from her scars. Seth was also house sitting and who had lost his previous wife during the Christmas Holiday. Both in a vulnerable position, opened up to each other and the possibility of finding support, trust and maybe even love! Loved this book as the final in the series! I would read the series again !
Another in the Silver Springs series, in which actress Tia Beckett hides out at her producer's house to heal from a car accident that has left her with serious facial scars. While there to take care of a spoiled parrot, she is shocked when fine artist and sculptor Seth Turner moves into the main house while she's occupying the smaller guest house. Seth is three years away from the death of his wife and still hurting from what had happened to him before he ended up at the New Horizons Boys Ranch where Aiyana saved him.
While at the house, Tia and Seth begin to help each other heal from their respective wounds, even as her wellbeing is threatened by a pappirazzo who is intent on getting a photo of her scars. At the same time, Seth's former in-laws become involved in ways no one expected.
Aiyana wants this particular Christmas season to be the best for Seth and if it takes welcoming Tia into the family of adoptees and foster kids, she's totally in for that. But will Seth and Tia agree? And how will she deal with those scars that could mean the end of her acting career?
Brenda Novak, author
A beautiful heart warming story of two broken people coming together at Christmastime. This is the story of Tia Beckett (aka. Sarah Issac) and Seth Turner. If you enjoy Brenda's books as much as I do, then do yourself a favor and read this novel. I can sincerely and most highly recommend it.
Might have some spoilers:
Follows all the rules of a great Hallmark movie (except the R rating!). Girl meets boy, falls in love, but he can't commit because of all the emotional baggage he's carrying around. He says something he shouldn't have said, she leaves and he goes after her. They live happily ever after!
This is not a typical light-hearted romance because there are some deep themes in this novel that are thought-provoking. Tia is a Hollywood rising star who has just finished a film when she is in a horrible accident that scars her face. Fleeing to Silver Springs, she finds refuge in a friends guest house at his secluded mansion, caring for his parrot and hiding from the world. Maxi, her good friend and benefactor, has also offered the use of his estate to world-renowned artist Seth. The clash between the two at first lent humor to the story. Seth is also suffering from the loss of his beloved wife Shiloh, so the two do have suffering in common, but other than that, they just agree to stay apart. The story is a familiar one in which they eventually discover respect and compassion for each other and ultimately love. But how they get there is an amazing, multi-layered story. The plot is well written and intricately designed around the town of Silver Springs and familiar characters from previous books in the series. I really enjoyed the character of Aiyana, Seth’s adoptive mom, who is as wise as she is kind and generous. Of course, I also enjoyed getting to know Tia and Seth, both of whom need to come to grips with a bad hand that the past has dealt them in order to move on into the future. That is a recurring theme here and a lesson to take from the novel. Family relationships is also an important theme in this book, both betrayals from the past and establishing new relationships for the future. Finally, there is the theme of being able to trust those around you, the ones whom you hold close. With all of these layers and complex, well-developed characters, this book delivered a romance for the ages, with heartfelt desire and the real need to find a lasting connection. I loved this book and truly did not want it to end, especially since it is the culmination of such a wonderful series. However, the story that was told here and the characters that were introduced were a perfect ending to the love story that is Silver Springs. Although this is definitely part of a series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.
