Anything goes if you don’t get caught.

Gilded Academy is the most exclusive school in the United States. To attend, you must either be Gilded yourself or have enough money to buy your way in. I’m neither of those things, but because of a new scholarship program and my perfect grades, Gilded Academy is where I’m spending my last year of high school.

It’s nothing like I imagined it’d be.

Gildeds are some of the richest people in the world, and they don’t play nice. The academy is a war zone, one big name against the other, and I’m expected to pick a side. Everyone has. Except for Lucas Ignacio.

Lucas is a Gilded outcast. He’s a funny, quirky boy and so handsome it’s hard to keep my eyes off him, but he’s dangerous. Or so everyone says. He’s only been nice to me.

I’ve always been a social shadow, and Lucas is the first person who’s ever wanted to be my friend. I think everyone has misjudged him.

But I could be wrong.

Kestra Pingree is a creative who doesn’t know how to stop. They are first and foremost a writer and storyteller with an endless library of books in their head just waiting to be typed. They are also an artist and animator, as well as a singer, songwriter, and voice actor. One day they swear they’re going to make their own video game, too.

If it involves creating, they are there.

They can also be seen cuddling their cat, reading, or playing video games.

Confusing but Intriguing

I'm not really sure what to put here because I'm still processing what I read. The characters are odd, but interesting. Lucas is a strange cookie, but his weird mannerisms are what kept me reading. I didn't care much for the main character, Melody, but I also think that was kind of the point. She comes across as sense, but I think a lot of that may be due to her lack of confidence or possibly even a trauma response from her past. This book leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions. Why are the politics of the school so important? Why does Lucas avoid touch? Why is Melody so afraid of rabbits? I tend to be a fan of books with strong female leads, so I may not be the target audience for this one. However, the author's writing is so different, strange, and odd that I WANT to find out more. If you like books that demand you fall down a rabbit hole, this one is for you.
