While Broken Sky is only a novella, it has enough imagery, passion, plot, character, and energy to be an entire novel. I really enjoyed this book, and I really couldn't stop reading it. I was just so drawn into the characters and the story that I had to finish it in one sitting. An absolute must-read!
A sad, heartwrenching, adventurous tale about young Jimmy and his dog, Ben. The imagery in this novella was spot on and made me flinch every time Jimmy and Ben encountered something dangerous. I cared for these two and I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through. If I had to critique anything, it would simply be that I was left longing for more. There's a lot of room to expand in Broken Sky and I would love to read more about Jimmy's life before and after being abandoned in Big Bend Park. I suppose that's what a novella is, though. Zilla Babbitt does a wonderful job of satisfying the reader and leaving them wanting more. That's the sign of a fantastic author and, this being her debut, I cannot wait to read more.
I felt every dry mouth and tasted the unsavory water and fish from your description. It's an amazing story of perseverance and survival. I love the relationship between Jimmy and Ben!
