What does a forty-two-year-old, small-town pastor do when he wins one of the most popular singing competitions in the world? Todd Tilghman and his wife, Brooke, share how decades of unrelenting challenges have taught them a joyful mindset of embracing not only winning 'The Voice' but also "every little win" along the way.
When Todd Tilghman, pastor and father of eight from Meridian, Mississippi, auditioned for 'The Voice', he counted it as a win simply to sing in front of an audience other than family and church members. Despite no music or vocal training, he not only made it through the blind audition - with all four celebrity judges vying to coach him - he also won the show's entire eighteenth season. Fans were drawn to Todd's tremendous joy on stage, giving them much-needed inspiration during the hard challenges of a global pandemic.
In their first book, Todd and Brooke share how their focus on joy and celebrating every little win has helped them to overcome numerous challenges over their twenty-plus-year marriage. From adopting two children from South Korea to fighting for their newborn son's life to pastoring a small congregation through periods of adversity, Todd and Brooke share the lessons they've learned and the strategies that have moved them from fear to faith to ever-present joy.
Confession: I have never seen 'The Voice.' (That will likely change now that I've read 'Every Little Win,' lol.) I picked up the book purely because it looked interesting, and had zero familiarity with the show or the family. That can have its perks, haha!
Wow. The Tilghmans are truly inspiring, and God's fingerprints are all over their story. They've been through so much and just keep pointing back to Christ; it's inspiring and humbling! And what a witness they were able to have being on 'The Voice' ... a show and a location (Hollywood) in such need of God, and that's even without a pandemic.
The little wins at the end of each chapter were particularly insightful and encouraging, jolts of positivity that any reader can draw upon.
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Todd & Brooke Tilghman share an open and honest account of how God can take seemingly ordinary lives and make them extraordinary for His glory!
As a recovering people-pleaser, the story of their lives reminds me that I don’t have to constantly worry what others think. I can be the real me, and Jesus will love me. Period.
As they each share their perspective of the events in their lives, it becomes evident how God worked over time, and often through other people, to work all things together for the good of the Tilghman family. It’s a journey of joys and pains, losses and victories, and the often surprising ways that God can change lives for those willing to put themselves in His capable hands.
Celebrate the little wins in every ordinary day, and eventually they will add up to extraordinary victories!
Every Little Win is an inspirational book from Season 18 "The Voice" winner, Todd Tilghman, and wife, Brooke. With brutal honestly they give you glimpses into their lives and everything they've gone through together and with their 8 children, leaning on God the whole way. This book will nor only entertain, but tell their story and how you, too, can find every little win in yours!
Little wins are everywhere.... From the time you pick up the book (trust me you're not gonna want to put it down) til the time you finally finish and lay it down you will understand that there are small wins and victories in everything.
Brooke and Todd show you these little wins from their experiences by giving you an inside look into their lives from the good and the bad times. From the edge of a divorce, becoming the pastor of a small Mississippi church, raising eight (8) kids, to winning the voice and plans for the future. The back and forth between Todd and Brooke makes you feel like you are actually sitting down with them and having a conversation.
The vulnerability and emotion that you feel when reading will get you to pause and collect yourself. Some of my pages may or may not have a few tear stains because what I read really hit me where it needed to as what I needed to hear in that moment.
One of those moments is Brooke's battle with anxiety and how she is overcoming it, as I am facing that battle at this time in my life. Another thing that I love is how at the end of each chapter "Every little win" is listed and how it can be found in our lives.
This book is an eye opener! It causes you stop and think about things you have experienced. In doing so, you begin to look for the "little wins" in your life that you've never considered before that have been there all along. No matter how insignificant it may seem to someone else, for you, a win is a win.
Wow! This book is a story of hope and redemption. I love how they share honest realities of life with the reader and take you through how they learned to celebrate "every little win". It tells the story of Todd and Brooke from the beginning and takes you all the way through his win on "The Voice". They share their ups and downs, life challenges, and how they have handled those things. They share their heart for their children and their hometown and their church. As someone who has recently dealt with a lot of heartbreak and disappointment, I found myself writing down quotes from the book so I could easily recall them later. Like "The way to move from fear to freedom and from freedom to joy - is to celebrate all the little wins in life, especially the wins we often forget to notice." One particular point that really spoke to me was on suffering - "each person's suffering is uniquely theirs" and "don't minimize someone else's pain, and don't allow their circumstances to minimize yours". If you have ever suffered heartbreak, disappointment, depression, this book offers a unique perspective and hope. If you have felt like God has somehow forgotten you and your circumstances, this book is for you. Thank you, Todd and Brooke for sharing your life with the world and for being "real" people!
If you're like me and you knew of Todd and Brooke Tilghman through their victorious appearance of Season 18 of The Voice, you would know of their family's joyous spirit and zest for life. In their new book, Every Little Win, Todd and Brooke, with the help of their good friend and co-author Tricia Goyer, waxes nostalgic about the winding road leading to this momentous occasion in the Tilghman family's lives. It's an honest and frank retelling of Todd and Brooke's eventful relationship, beginning with their story as a young couple in rural MS, and the challenges they faced as they went through separation, adoption, battles with anxiety, and their family being on the national spotlight (TWICE). It's funny, bittersweet, and most importantly, authentic. It truly felt like you're conversing with Todd and Brooke as you flip through the pages. Anyone who is going through their own trials will find much to appreciate about Todd and Brooke's gratitude-filled view on life and the way they find fulfillment in every little win they encounter. At a time in history where we desperately need inspiration to carry on with our lives and move forward, this book is a reminder that even in the most trying of times, there's still so much to be happy about, if we just learn to savor every little win. Thumbs up!
“Every Little Win” is a true story told by Todd Tilghman (Season18 winner of “The Voice”) and his wife Brooke with the help of USA Today best-selling author Tricia Goyer. This book is both inspirational and relatable as it deals with relationships, separation and divorce, anxiety and depression, adoption, and the many other challenges this family of 10 has faced up to and throughout winning “The Voice” (even amid a global pandemic). While this story is entertaining, sometimes heartbreaking, and completely awe-inspiring, there are many teachable moments to be gleaned throughout these pages. This brutally honest and heartfelt account presents situations where you will see that it is feasible to be grateful and fulfilled as you also find it possible to expect positive outcomes in your lives despite going through seemingly unbeatable obstacles. This ordinary family demonstrates how they rely on God and His never-ending love, wisdom, mercy, and grace to make provisions in their lives that turn the little wins into big victories. I highly recommend this book to Christians and non-Christians alike who are considering marriage, divorce, having or adopting children, and those suffering mental illnesses. Reading this beautiful story of faith, love, and redemption will benefit you as you begin the process of counting “every little win” in your life!
Good afternoon; I just finished Todd and Brookes book Every Little Win and it’s great; I absolutely love it; I know Todd and Brooke on a person level and in my opinion their book needs to be a prerequisite for ones getting married, for those that desire children, for those that are raising children, for souls that need Jesus, for those that want to adopt, for those that want to homeschool, for those that are dealing with mental health issues, such as, depression, anxiety, fears, and bullying, for those that have wanted to sing and didn’t think they were good enough, and for those wanting to grow deeper with Jesus; this book is wonderful; I hope that this will inspire you to go and pre-order the book; thank you God for Todd and Brooke Tilghman and for sharing their story. God bless to all who read it!! I also want to add that Todd being on the voice came at a time that all of us needed due to COVID-19; Todd’s love and joy for people and through his music touched thousands of people; Todd ministered to many people at the stage of life where they were at; Todd and Brooke didn’t try to point out what was wrong in ones life but to let Gods love flow from them; these are wonderful lessons we too can learn;
I watched The Voice during the season that Todd Tilghman claimed his rightful victory. He was the clear winner. He was exactly what America was looking for in dark times. It's not because Todd is a pastor which allows him to reach into other people's souls through his musical abilities -- no, it’s the fact that he wants to spread around God's love and grace to anyone within reach. He is a shining light in a world full of hurt; his fans are not limited to only the Christians. Todd is a great person, and so is his wife Brooke. Together they have written this book, and I am so glad to have picked it up myself. Every Little Win is a reminder to not let the bad things in life outweigh the good. If you really examine your life, you can finds little "wins" every single day -- yes, even on the hardest of days.
I enjoyed getting to know the Tilghmans on a more personal level via their book. Their family is amazing. I look forward to hearing about more good things coming from the Tilghman family in the future.
Audiobook listeners: The audio version is narrated by the authors. I so enjoyed getting to hear their story straight from their mouths. It feels all the more authentic as told in their own voices. Definitely recommend!
EVERY LITTLE WIN tells the story of two people’s life journey with highs and lows from their own perspective. Todd and Brooke Tilghman reveal, unequivocally, experiences from their beginnings to Todd’s winning season 18 of The Voice. It not only is inspirational, personal and open and honesty at it’s finest; it is also motivational and teachable as well as relatable to several of their experiences and dealings with the world’s adversaries. The Tilghman’s are extremely candid in sharing their lives living behind the pulpit as well as out of the pulpit. I connected with several of their emotions and outcomes from the “fiery arrows” we all have experienced in life. Being a Child of GOD, wife, mother and friend, I was left in knowing I was not alone in such encounters of where life’s path has lead and actions taken when such was dealt with. Affirmation of God’s grace, mercy and love pierced my heart and soul ending up with joy. This book taught me to know how fear can lead to freedom and freedom to joy. The co-author, Tricia Goyer, captured Todd and Brooke’s story beautifully straight-on and left the reader with wanting more, as putting this book down is hard to do. If you have ever felt defeated by life’s issues or have questioned your worth, EVERY LITTLE WIN will give you inspiration and recognizance in knowing your story can have victory with a Devine Win Judy Ford
Every Little Win starts out with a Todd talking about growing up and then goes to Brooke. It continues with them talking about their life from their own perspectives. It talks about many things that struck me as something I could relate to or something I have been through in my own life. They tell their story and are so real and honest about things not always being perfect and it makes you feel like these things in your life have happened to other people, but with everything they tell you the good that you can see from it and not focus on the bad. They point out everyday life and how you can take little things as wins and I think just looking at life in this way could make all of our lives a little better. We need to focus on the things to be grateful for and not the negative. I could not put it down and when I had to stop I couldn’t wait to get back to it. I really think this could help many people with various situations and backgrounds see they are not alone and also find joy in the little things.
Thanks for filling out your review for Every Little Win. We'll
Wow, just wow. What more can i say. I thought this book would really be about the work of severing as a pastor and a pastor's wife. This book is so much more. Todd and Brooke share their heart. They tell of love, loss, heartache, separation, reconciliation, health issues, raising a large family, and serving as a pastor. As Todd talked about his grandmother it was like he was talking about my grandmother as well. As Brooke shares her issues of dealing with depression, and anxiety hit home with me, as i all deal with these issues as well. To hear who she has learned to deal with gives hope and comfort to know i am not alone. Every Little Win is a book of encouragement, love, and hope. That no matter where we are in our relationships with our spouse, children, friends, church or whoever crosses our paths that we can can a Win in all that we do.
I watched every episode of that season of Voice and Todd was so much fun!!! So talented. He was a real inspiration when the world went crazy. It was a very talented group of singers that season. Todd had a great story as Voice contestants usually do..
Well, they had a never before chance to sing from home due to the pandemic and it revealed much of the family's story.
However, their story is barely told on the Voice but this book gives husband and wife's point of view on their biography.
It is so refreshing to read their honest and difficult lives but Todd and his wife use "wins" each chapter to refresh what they won out of trusting in God.
What love they have for each other and their family. It was a beautiful story. I hope you'll read even if you hadn't seen the Voice.
PS. I happened to have watched their talented son on his Making It show. Very fun!!
Every Little Win is the inspirational story of Todd and Brooke Tilghman, a couple from Meridian, Mississippi, who have eight children and are living their lives for the glory of God. From the very beginning of the book I was in tears. What a wonderful story of redemption, of hope, and of living God’s promises. The goodness of God is a constant thread woven throughout every chapter. I cried, I laughed, and I praised God as I read how His perfect plan was carried out in the lives of these two precious people. My favorite line in the book is “It’s the little wins in everyday life that lead to victory.” I love the “Wins for Today” at the end of each chapter. If you struggle in life (and who doesn’t?), read this book. It will leave you uplifted and full of hope.
Every Little Win is a true and inspirational story written by Todd and Brooke Tilghman (with author Tricia Goyer). It is about the couple’s shared journey through life, and how they have chosen to celebrate all of their victories, big and small, with the same amount of importance. When Todd won The Voice, he and his family celebrated that win just as they do the smallest of wins. This way of thinking, which is vulnerably described by them throughout their book, brings joy and happiness to every kind of day - not just the good ones. Their book also teaches us how to “cling” to God in specific ways to bring joy and peace to your life. I highly recommend this book and I give it 5 stars.
A refreshingly honest story about two dear hearts, Todd and Brooke Tilghman, and their unique tribe of eight children. Much wisdom is tucked inside the pages of this treasure trove about life's hills and valleys, and the goodness of God. It brought me to tears, made me laugh out loud, and awed me at their willingness to share intimate details about their personal lives, in hopes of helping other people. My racquetball brain brought to mind Margery Williams book, The Velveteen Rabbit, where the Skin Horse tells the velveteen rabbit that, "becoming Real is a thing that happens to you when someone Really loves you, and it takes a long time . . . once you are real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand." BRAVO!!!
Every Little Win was fun to read. I enjoyed getting a glimpse into the lives of Todd and Brooke as they shared about their personal histories, their romance and their family life. I appreciated how they shared both the joys and the struggles that have shaped them and were instrumental in bringing them to where they are today. There were so many places throughout the book that reminded me to look for the small wins in my own life and to just continue to walk forward in faith. I appreciated the words of encouragement when Todd stated, “We win when we use our strengths and trust God to bring others to help where we are weak.” This book is a little bit of sunshine in our crazy world. You will be blessed by reading it!
I finally finished the book. If my body would have stayed awake, I finished it in one day. This book is an awe. What a raw, emotional just God book. Yes, it about a journey of a couple who faced all kinds of issues just like all of us. However, they remember to seek God and allow him to show them. I been blessed to have meet Todd Anson Tilghman and Brooke Tilghman long before the Voice. I knew some of their story because they shared some before. I personally, gained from them. I am so proud of you both for sharing not just good times but hard times. Your determination for your family and keeping God first.
I loved watching Pastor Todd on The Voice, enjoying every minute of his infectious, positive personality.~ Pastor Todd and Miss Brooke did a wonderful job with their book as well!! I loved getting to know their family and faith through Every Little Win.~ Even when writing about their lifes challenges, the book never felt "down". This book felt like a conversation with a friend over a cup of tea in the kitchen. Cozy, real conversation whilst also making you want to turn the page to see what the Tilghmans are doing next! Highly enjoyable read that I will be recommending to all my reader family and friends.
While reading this book, my thoughts that came were “this could easily be my family’s story!” Only back in the day, people weren’t quite as transparent with the deeper problems that occurred. Todd and Brooke have opened their lives to the world in a realistic way, with sometimes rather humorous tones. Like, it’s funny now, but wasn’t back when it happened! If you want to read a “real” story about the life and times of a “preacher’s kid”, then I highly recommend you read Todd and Brooke’s story, as they turn whatever could be a devastating end into a life encouraging challenge by counting every little win, to the glory of our Heavenly Father.
A quick and inspiring read. I watched The Voice as Todd Tilgman performed in season 18; he is also a fellow Pentecostal which drew my interest to him. This is the story of two people who share with such translucence their own powerful story. Quite the motivating book for pastors and student leaders; leaders of any following and followers of any leader.
The couple opened their life in a "here we are" way; no room left in this one for critical judgment.
This is an exceptionally good book. Brook and Todd Tilghman are very down to earth people and shared their lives in their book. I initially read the book online while waiting for my hard copy. I immediately starting reading it and couldn't put it down. It's one of those books you read over and over
Wow! Amazing is all I can say. Every Little Win is a sure Win for everyone who reads it. True to form, Brooke and Todd are as humble and down to earth in real life as they have appeared to be throughout their albeit brief public journey so far. Their raw honesty about life and how to approach each little piece as a win is sure to inspire all who read it!
This book is well written and very captivating! Who knew that pastors and their families were ordinary people who struggled with the same things “Regular” people struggle with? You will NOT be disappointed if you are looking for: Real, Raw, Honest and Inspiring words that will spring forth Hope like you’ve never experienced!
This was a powerful story--exceeding all my expectations. Maybe you have to be a fan of Tilgham to enjoy it as much as I did (his performance genuinely moved me), but maybe not. This isn't merely a "feel good" book, but raw, honest, and about facing true hardships.
Every little win is the beautiful, honest and lovely journey of Todd and Brooke. It's packed with encouragement, hope and love. It's so inspiring to see how their focus on joy and celebrating every little win has helped them to overcome every chalenge they has been through. It was such a pleasure to read it.
WOW! I love this book! I love how Todd and Brooke share the raw parts of their life stories with us. I also love that they give all the credit to God for how they overcame. So encouraging!
