"The humans have acquired so much wisdom, he thinks... yet their world is ever on the edge of oblivion"

This was interesting, but I found myself kind of confused through a lot of it.

This volume collects three stories about the famous Marvel couple:

1. Avengers Origins: Vision (2011) written by Kyle Higgins and Alec Siegel, art by Stephane Perger--Ultron-5 builds an unnamed android to kill his enemies, the Avengers. By carefully controlling what information the android receives, Ultron assumes that he has built the perfect weapon to destroy the main obstacle in his way. Things don't turn out according to his plan when the android sees how the Avengers fight for each other and care for others more than for themselves. Curiously, Wanda is absent from this story!

2. Giant-Size Avengers 4 (1974) written by Steve Englehart, penciled by Don Heck, and inked by John Tataglione--The "Giant-Size" refers to the page count--a double issue--not the actual size of the Avengers. Two story lines are intermingled. The Vision goes to Dormammu's infernal dimension to rescue Scarlet Witch from his clutches. Meanwhile, the other Avengers try to stop Kang the Conqueror from stealing the woman who will be chosen as the perfect woman (either Mantis or Moondragon). I think the two stories would be hard to follow without a lot of previous knowledge of Marvel characters, more than someone can get from the MCU. The story ends with two weddings, one being the Vision and Wanda union. The stories are exciting enough but out of context they are a little more challenging to follow.

3. Marvel Team-Up 129 and 130 (1972) written by J. M. Dematteis, penciled by Kerry Gammill and Sal Buscema, and inked by Mike Esposito--Spider-man teams up with The Vision and then with the Scarlet Witch in these paired stories. First, Peter Parker goes with a soon-to-retire journalist for one last big story about a killer in a small New England town. Vision is also drawn to the town by a team of androids who are copies of the greatest humans of the past (including Mark Twain and Fyodor Dostoyevski). The two stories come together quickly. The second issue draws the Scarlet Witch in when villain Necrodamus (you could have guessed he was the villain just by his name) kidnaps her in an attempt to get revenge. The overall story is entertaining and does focus on the relationship between Vision and Wanda.

Mildly recommended--it might be a little tricky to appreciate the storylines without some previous knowledge.

The quality, and bizarreness level, of these issues is generally at a four star level, but the big problem with this curated overview collection is it should be called Marvel-Verse: Vision. He gets significantly more focus than Wanda; I’d argue Spider-Man gets more focus than her too.

Do I read comics now? It's more likely than you think!

This has been a huge year for Marvel already, and particularly after seeing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, I've gotten curious about the comics. I decided to start here, with this Marvel-verse compilation of some of Wanda and Vision's most important storylines, because I love Wanda and I like the idea of important comics and plot points being collected together in one place. I sometimes struggle with reading graphic novels/comics because I don't focus on the pictures as much as I should, but this wasn't too bad on that front. It was fun to see the art styles evolve from comic to comic as well as see where the storylines deviate from what I know in the movies. I had fun with this and will definitely read more.

This is a compiliation of stories that tie Vision and Wanda together. They really have nothing to do with one another and contradict each other, at times.

The first is Avengers origins: Vision from 2011. This contains great, modern art and is the origin story as we see it again in the Ultron MCU movie, essentially. Ultron is depicted in a sharp and almost abstract style. Ultron is a bit simple, as a character, and his plan to use Vision as an assassin is as well. It is interesting that the whole cook is focused on Vision, yet he has no name.

The second is Giant Sized Avengers #4 from 1975. This book is in the classic silver age style of big blocks of primary colors and old school ink work. The story is silly and there is a LOT of exposition. At times a page will be all dialog bubbles. Honestly the day time soap plot was too much and the idea that Dormamu fails is not adequately explained. The marriage angle is hokey. Visions origins are completely different that the current story.

The last story is told in Marvel Team Up #129-130 from 1983. In 129 there is a murder in Jersey and Vision ends up pulled into the investigation. In so doing he meets robots left behind by the Mad Thinker... and we are left to ponder the nature of androids. Fairly straightforward, but decent. In #130 the story follows Vision as he is displaced in his body by a fairly racially insensitive Asian character Necrodamus who has existed for years in a crap body and wants the Vision body to live in for eternity. This works out poorly for Necrodamus, but not before Spider-Man gets the hell beat out of him again. The best part of the story involves Spider-Man and classic alter-ego danger.

Overall - decent stories, but nothing that ties into the recent Wandavision show or MCU really.

My son and I have read several books in this series and this was by far our least favorite. The chosen comics are largely part of a complicated web that jumps around and leaves you confused without context. And what you could follow along with was just not that entertaining. The biggest part that brought it down was the "giant size" comic (2nd story in the collection), and our favorite was the first story.

All the issues in this comic were phenomenal, but the giant size avenger for which it took me way too long to understand what was going on, but that comes with it being the fourth issue i guess. The Spider-Man team ups were so much fun, and the Vision Origin was beautifully illustrated and a very nice take on Vision's creation.

Mixed feelings towards this - the individual stories were mostly ok, but I don't think the selection is appropriate for a new reader introduction into Vision & Scarlet Witch, or for younger audiences.

Starts off with a newer issue depicting Vision's origin - very suitable for this type of book.
Next are three classic-style comics, beginning with is a giant-size issue that is very difficult to read, partly due to being the finale of a larger story (The Celestial Madonna), and partly because of the writing style. I don't mind silver and bronze age writing, but this was excessively wordy and hard to get into. While it does contain a fair amount of Vision & Scarlet Witch, and an important event for them, I think that a lighter or a more self-contained story would have been a better choice for a Marvel-verse book.
In the end, we get a team-up issue with Spider-man & Vision (virtually no Scarlet Witch present) and a Spidey/Scarlet Witch team-up featuring Vision - both are ok, but for a book called "Wanda & Vision", only the latter one can be considered truly relevant.

Overall pretty stupid.

These parts were interesting:

Wanda… She spoke of your instruction, but it’s I who’s been learning over the past months. First we were apart because we quarreled…
…Then, because you were immersed in bettering yourself…
…And for the first time, I lived a life without your warmth.
I found that such a life was far more barren than life with us together.
I didn’t truly realize how I felt – or that I felt as deeply as I do – until mantis offered herself to me – –
- – and I felt no desire to accept her.
Wanda, you are the only woman for me! I can make you happy! Forget all the human rules and please… Marry me.

—————

It is truly clear to you then, beloved.

Yes, beloved. Humans deal broadly with life, but not deeply… While plants deal deeply, but not broadly. One has mobility, the other mind control.
There must be a mingling of the two, for the benefit of both!

I honestly don’t think this is the best place to start if you’re looking for comics focused on Wanda and Vision. The first Vision: Origins story is a great choice as an intro to him. The other ones seem like kind of...odd choices to include to me. Also, this should have been marketed as a Vision book lol- he gets *far* more attention and page time than Wanda does, and when she does appear, she’s often in the Damsel In Distress role which I don’t care for haha. That being said, purely as a Vision book (with bonus Scarlet Witch appearances) it’s a fun read all the same.

If you are just going to get ONE book focused on these two, I would get this one instead: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

The modern origin of the Vision, the wedding of Wanda and Vision, and a wacky team up with Spider-Man... this collection is definitely trying to entice views of "Wandavision" to make the jump to comics. Wanda and Vision's wedding is just pure 70's bonkers involving Immortus, Dormammu, and the "celestial madonna." The Spider-Man team up is fun and introduces a society of androids who probably don't appear ever again but might. The retelling of Vision's origin in a modern fashion is actually the most out of place in this book just due it being create decades later.

Not awful, but not really very good. Most of the stories are from the early 70s and they feel very dated. Mayyybe half of it is actually about Wanda & Vision as a couple. Some of it has more to do with Vision specifically, and at least half of the longest issue in the book is not even about either of them. Has a nice little ending that bumped the rating up for me, but overall still not a great read tbh.

These are three separate Marvel stories featuring Vision (and two featuring the Scarlet Witch), which I'm sure are much stronger when not taken out of their larger arcs. They're a little difficult to jump into, and I found myself more invested in the Spider-Man story which they happen to be characters in.

This is a cool take on some of the lore surrounding Wanda and Vision.
It was nice to see the different takes on how Vision came about, and I loved the baddies that threatened the members of the Avengers.

The issue of Giant-Size Avengers where Wanda and Vision get married that is included in this book is perhaps the most confusing comic I have ever read. I had no idea what was going on! All that stuff with Mantis and Moondragon was gibberish to me.

Ehhhhh I didn’t enjoy this, lmao. I was hoping for context on Wanda and Vision’s modern relationship in marvel comics, but there’s just a bunch of goofy old junk. Definitely didn’t give me the context I was hoping for.

Short a sweet. This is what I would consider a brief look at the start of their relationship. Definitely gets the point across, but I wish it were thicker. Definitely worth read though for any Marvel (Vision and Scarlet Witch particularly) fan.

Art work was ten times better in this Graphic novel!!!! The women bodies designs were much, much better than previous designs. Now if only we could get a bit more diverse with our superhero’s that would be wonderful!

First issue was great. Second storyline was long and confusing bluster. Third story was a skim - robot Mark Twain and other literary greats (what?). These marvel-verse collections are usually pretty random and mildly interesting to great but this collection was unnecessary.

The origin story is good, the Spidey story is a bit much, but it has its moments...bit oh God, the middle. Just so many words, sloppy editing (why should we reference things we don't want to look up??), retcons, needless complications, tree marriages...no thank you.

I guess I had the wrong expectations going into this, given that I'm a huge WandaVision fan (the show, I mean). In this, I'd say Vision got too much attention and Wanda, not enough, and I just didn't care too much for their interactions. It was fun to see Peter Parker, though.
