Ruri Morikawa manages to survive the assassination plot devised by the Church of God's Light and the pair of fake Reapers—leaving the castle of the Nation of the Dragon King in disrepair. With reconstruction underway, Ruri takes a trip to the Nation of the Beast King by suggestion of their Beloved, Celestine. With their efforts to find the Church of God's Light coming up empty, the rather egotistical Spirit of Fire, a supreme-level spirit, shows up at their doorstep. Will things proceed to heat up in the Nation of the Beast King? Or will they get too hot to handle?
Out of the four books (so far), I like this installment the least....
While there were some fun moments at the beginning, I really started hated Ruri when Heat was introduced. Speaking of Heat, why is his animal that!? It makes no sense! Won’t say what his animal is, but it makes no sense for him since he is the supreme fire spirit. Honestly, I thought I would like Heat, but he is a jerk. Even though he is mean to Ruri, I do appreciate that his antics tortured Ruri since I was sick of her at this point. With the fourth volume done, the only character that I still like is Joshua. Joshua is a little sh*t and that isn’t gonna change anytime soon. HOWEVER, Joshua is a BAMFing Ninja (essentially)!
Also, Jade and Ruri need to get their act together! I truly hope that the cover for the fifth installment is a clue to the romance. After reading volume four, I feel like I need to binge my favorite romance show to feel an amount of warm fuzzies that I felt in the previous books.
I would also like to mention that volume four felt like the filler vacation episode that decided to execute a poorly written plot rather than being a fun episode. I hope the fifth installment is better.... I hope that it is the last in this series, too.
....Maybe I should change my 3 star down to a 2 star because I realize that I don’t really like this book the more that I think back on it. Towards the end, Ruri became whiny and helpless. There are plot holes with the supreme wind spirits protectiveness of Ruri, but I won’t get into that because of spoilers. Also, Jade and Ruri relationship is annoying me.
I honestly liked the fact that there was finally a spirit that wasn't in love with Ruri. Kind of made it all feel more real and for her not to be completely over powered. Though I did like that character, and how the story really switched things up. Seeing how things were in the Beast Kingdom, and finally dealing directly with that cult made for an exciting story.
I enjoy the overarching story for this series, but the author is not good at wrapping up the smaller story arcs - both that the series has done thus far have just sort of fizzled out.
Once again I love this series. I was very excited when this book came out on my Birthday! I love this book new book though would have enjoyed more romance from the main couple ate least there problem is solved for now. Can't wait for the next enemy and hopefully and a future wedding!
After Ruri gets her revenge and gets married to Jade, the couple and co goes on for more adventures and detective work on mysterious happenings. As a beloved, she meets other beloved creatures, and they aren't all friendly.

I wish she'd have more confidence in herself and also maybe go do some research on how romance works for different species... Then maybe she'd stop being so confused and timid
