The Napoleonic Wars: One Shot at Glory

Rate this book
The French Revolution of the late 1790’s was one of the critical events in the history of Europe. It was the defining moment – a historic landslide that ushered the world into a new, completely different epoch. Alas, all such changes come at a great cost. In the wake of the Revolution, a series of large scale conflicts ensued, which are collectively known as the Napoleonic Wars. Their magnitude, their ferocity, and the loss of lives they caused were unprecedented up to that time, and shown to the observing world that the changing of a thousand year old history can be brutal, vicious, and tumultuous.

My Slightly Sarcastic But Ultimately Honest Book Rating System:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 Stars): This book achieved legendary status in my personal library. I will likely reread it until the pages fall out (or my e-reader spontaneously combusts). Consider this my enthusiastic endorsement – you should probably read it unless you actively dislike joy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 Stars): A truly excellent read! I enjoyed it immensely and would heartily recommend it to fellow bookworms. You might even catch me subtly pushing it into their hands.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3 Stars): Yep, it was a book I read. I turned the pages, absorbed the words, and emerged...unchanged. It was a pleasant enough journey, like a scenic detour that you wouldn't necessarily take again, but didn't regret.
⭐️⭐️ (2 Stars): This book existed. I finished it. That's about the highest praise I can offer. If you're looking for something truly captivating, maybe keep scrolling. This one's more of an "it filled the silence" kind of experience.
⭐️ (1 Star): Oh dear. This book and I did not get along. It was a literary tumbleweed in the vast desert of good books. Consider this a strong "do not recommend," unless you're conducting research on what not to do in storytelling.

Disclaimer: My enjoyment of the narrator is based on my listening speed. I only leave 5 stars for books I've read/listened to or will read/listen to multiple times. If you like this review please consider giving it a Helpful Vote below.

Well Written and Interesting Non-fiction📚

This is a fast paced and well written accounting of the various wars and battles engaged in by Napoleon and his generals and allies.

The Peninsular War 1808-1814 involved Spain and Portugal against Napoleon, and is the one that got the British involved, Too, because Portugal was their long time ally.

Each major battle has its own chapter, with brief, concise descriptions of the Generals, troops involved, conflicts, and outcomes.

I also got this ebook with Amazon Free 📚.

I was happy to read this nonfiction account of the Napoleonic Wars because I read a lot of Regency Romance novels, and these conflicts all took place during this time period in British History. The book also includes information on the War of 1812, which was nearly a gobal war, which included the young USA.

I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a good basic knowledge of the Napoleonic Wars. The book can be read in a few hours and held my interest all the way through.

"Wars of boldness and gamble."
Napoleon Bonaparte, born in Corsica in 1769, rose to power in the years of chaos following the French Revolution. He stabilized the economy and reorganized the army. His military career was remarkable and, despite often trying to negotiate for peace, he led France into war with, amongst others, Britain, Spain, Portugal, Prussia, Austria and Russia. This short book outlines all of the several wars, with key players named, background conflicts that led to the engagements explained as well as the progress of each confrontation itself. There is also an overview of the importance of the time in the aftermath. Clearly presented and easy to follow, this is the perfect outline and provides an excellent starting point for anyone wishing to delve deeper into a specific area.
Narration is by Joseph Meyer, whose reading is clear, if uninspired.

My thanks to the rights holder of The Napoleonic Wars, who, at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. Definitely recommended to anyone wanting to find out more about this important and pivotal period of modern history in a concise form.

This book provided a good overview of the battles of Napoleon's many wars but I found it very dry. The final chapter on the impacts, however, was very useful and quite interesting.
This would be a useful tool for a historian of the period who wanted to understand how all of the conflicts of the period resolved themselves and how they all fit together.

If you like history, you will love this book! It covers all the major happenings in the era of Napoleon and it is an easy read. It is very much a survey of history, rather than a deep in depth look at everything, but I really liked that. It gave me everything I wanted to know, and a bit more, and it was easily digested. Some history books can be so boring and dull and this is definitely NOT one of those. I highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys history and/or just wants to brush up on their Napoleonic War history or knowledge.

This is an interesting overview of those conflicts known as the Napoleonic Wars. As an American, I found it intriguing and fascinating. Since it didn't involve the United States, these conflicts were not covered in any of my schooling history classes, and my prior knowledge was very limited. I found this short, fast read an adequate summary for the neophyte just wanting a basic knowledge of the conflict and it's causes. participants, and results.

The Napoleonic Wars is a great history book. I got this book because I didn't know much about the Napoleonic War period in Europe. This book did exactly what I was hoping for and familiarized me with what occurred during the years of the Napoleonic Wars. I now understand more about that period of history because of this book. I listened to this book on audiobook, and the narration was also excellent. I enjoyed all the history books by the Booke Nerds I have read.
