The person sworn to protect you could be the very one you should fear, in this mind-bending crime thriller from a real-life police detective.
When the body of a missing woman is unearthed in a shallow grave, Det. Inspector Harry Powell is tasked with leading the hunt for her killer. But as the investigation unfolds, Harry is forced to confront a chilling connection to an old case from his past—one that raises the haunting possibility that a grave mistake may have unleashed a dangerous criminal onto the streets.
Amid the rising tension, a new recruit joins the Murder Squad: Det. Constable Dane Hoopman. On the surface, Dane seems like any other officer eager to prove himself, but cracks in his polished exterior suggest there’s more to him than meets the eye.
As Harry edges nearer to uncovering the truth, he notices Dane growing uncomfortably close to one of the team’s most vulnerable members. Are Dane’s intentions as innocent as they seem, or is there a darker agenda at play? With time running out, Harry’s investigation threatens to reveal a shocking truth—one that may strike closer to home than he ever imagined . . .
Another brilliant read from Lisa. I love the local references. Lisa draws from her experience as a police officer and manages to describe the culture in the police.
Having read all of Lisa’s previous books I couldn’t wait for this to land. Having pre ordered this book it landed at just after midnight on Thursday and by lunchtime I had finished this. This still follows Harry Powell a DI in Major Crime. A new DC comes into the department and I could sense from the first couple of chapters that Sophia Turner also a DC would succumb to his charms and I was right! Another great storyline bringing in previous characters and following on from Linda Bowmans death (Buried Secrets) a world of crime, corruption and fraud in particular credit/bank card fraud and how easily this can be done. A lot of twists and turns and did not see the ending at all.
I have read the other books by this author, and loved them all. I like the police procedural stuff and also the characters are plausible. The story is gripping and flows well. I started reading books by Lisa Cutts because another author recommended her and I'm pleased Julie seemed did.
Lisa Cutts is one of my favourite authors, she writes a good murder and sends you up the wrong path with her clever writing. Can the detectives get to the bottom of this when they are working from a broken group with them not over the loss of their friend. You really get to know the characters in Lisa’s books and this makes the reading so much better. Good murders, good characters and good writing all make the perfect book.
Don't Trust Him is a crime/thriller novel written by Lisa Cutts. It tells the story of Harry the Detective Inspector and the hardships faced on his police force due to budget cuts. Another police officer joins the crew in unusual circumstances and tries to win Sophia, another officer over. Sophia is going through a tough time and struggling with money and appreciates the attention, but can she trust him? Can any of the police force trust him?
This was a good, catchy story but not my favourite genre. I liked the short chapters that encouraged me to continue reading but the plot was wayyyyy too predictable...
