Strange Spring: Stories We Wrote in Self-Isolation

Rate this book
In the Strange Spring of 2020, writers came together in a month-long workshop by Anette Pollner. We were sitting alone in our rooms, in many different countries, looking out of the window at a world that had changed. We were in collective shock, and that shock opened up new ways of thinking, imagining, writing. The only place to go was the world within. And that's a place that writers are familiar with. The stories that came out of that Strange Spring are stories of heightened perception, stories of a world where every point of reference is spinning in the void. They were all written in the Strange Spring but they are set in all sorts of different times and places. The lockdown, the past, the world of flora and fauna, and even the future. If you have lived through the Strange Spring of 2020, you will find a capsule of enhanced memory in these stories. The crisis stripped us down to essentials in more than one way. These international stories from three continents are exciting, funny, wild, poetic, contemporary, traditional and unconventional, and all are a little bit strange in the best possible way. With stories by Zoe Popham, Nina Bodenlosz, Kate M Tyte, Dominic Sargent, E. A. von Kleist, Ana Vrieland, Cosima Doerfel Hill, Agnès Bourhis, Marie-Louise Pearson, Miriam Babooram, Emma Baker, Emily Reid and Anette Pollner (writing as Nyla Nox). Edited by Anette Pollner

An interesting collection of stories, from the sweet to the disturbing, written during isolation due to the COVID pandemic. Diversity in the writing and styles take you from place to place, and are likely to resonate with you in some way if you (when you!) experienced your own isolation and lockdown.
