Four years ago, GP Lily Scott walked away from Dr. Max Bryant and their sizzling fling. Why? Well, if the past had taught Lily anything, it was to be cautious with her heart. But Lily’s rule book is about to go out the window, because Max is her new colleague! She can’t ignore their powerful connection—or the family she pictures—every time she’s with him. Can that family become a reality?
This book was very hard to get through. So much of this book takes place in the hero and heroine's heads with little to no actual action. Unless you like reading about a heroine constantly cutting wood and logs while thinking and talking to herself maybe find another book to read.
Family doctor Lily Scott is still hurting from the second of the men who walked out of her life for someone else. When she takes a new position, who does she meet first by the man she refused to keep seeing years earlier with both of them were still studying for their medical degrees?
But Max Bryant has changed. The thing is, why? And what's more puzzling is that those changes mean that Lily wants Max again, even if she's sure that a third time's the charm isn't for her. Instead, she wants to have a baby, even if it means she'll be a single mother from the start.
When Max opens up to tell her of his battle with a life-threatening illness, she understands, but will he accept that she isn't frightened to stick by him, even if there is a recurrence? And when he becomes ill, will he chase her away so that his illness won't cause her additional pain? Then there's her desire for a baby. Max isn't interested in rendering any child fatherless, even if the baby's mother is Lily. Sometimes doctors are their own worst patients when they try to control their own and others' lives.
