I have a hot bear boss. Shame he doesn’t interact much with us.
Horace is a shifter, a cop who leads our taskforce.
I have a little magic, which is used to help solve crimes.
We’re heroes in the city of Stoneshire – at least until a new killer hits the streets – one that even my magic can’t find.
My boss is determined to solve the case, and I’m determined to help him. It’s for the security of our city. It’s to maintain our department’s reputation.
And it’s certainly not because I also want to get to know him better…
Lisa Daniels is a (young) retired school teacher who resides in Miami. After five years of teaching, Lisa Daniels found that it wasn’t quite the world that she wanted to inhabit. After leaving her position, she moved to Miami. She hasn’t regretted it.
In her worlds, Lisa Daniels creates characters that go beyond the usual narrative. While they definitively include romance, Lisa Daniels strives to make the worlds more real with characters that are more than just cardboard cutouts of the genre. All of the main characters (and many of the secondary ones) have a rich history that span much longer than the stories themselves. This makes it easy to weave the stories together so that you can see characters you met in previous tales and see how they have managed since.
The Dragons of Letera is her first standalone series. Letera is a world teaming with romance, action, and stories – it is a world that Lisa Daniels loves to explore with her readers, one character at a time.
The storyline on this book is fantastic! So much action and danger and emotional turmoil! I enjoyed the characters and I loved watching them grow and develop their relationship over the course of the story. The writing style was a little off for me, I don’t know how else to describe it, but it was a little like reading through fog. But the story was so good that I completely forgot it as I was turning the pages. This book was worth reading and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Horace is a cop who is all about work, who suffers from the lost of his sister. Him and his team are trying to find a serial killer. Felicity is a person with thread magic, and Horace is her boss. They can't find the person and when a necromancer comes in, to help Horace has a hard time accepting it. When the killer goes after Felicity its no holds bar to find them. Will he ever accept Necromancers? Will he ever come out of his shell? Will Felicity be safe? What will Horace do?

I was surprised by Taskforce Bear Boss, pleasantly I must add so there’s no confusion. This is a gritty, intriguing, even dark in some ways story of shifters and magic, and not always the “does no harm” kind of magic either. The Bear Bosses of Samhain series opens with Horace and Felicity (a shifter and a magic wielder) who both are members of the police force dealing with another murder, one that bears the taint of a serial killer. While that generalization might apply to several PNR stories there is something about the reasons behind Horace’s and Felicity’s abilities, background, and attraction that is presented to the reader in a slightly different way, one that intrigues even as it draws you further into the story.
I don’t talk about major spoilers in my reviews, if I tell you the story what’s the point of buying/borrowing the book? So Taskforce Bear Boss begins with Horace’s intense pain over his younger sister’s death, a pain so deep that it has overtaken his life in so many ways. He has closed himself off from people, he does his job well but doesn’t interact with the members of the force who work alongside him each day. His hatred (and he has a good reason) toward necromancers borders on obsession. Yet it has also cut him off from support, friendships, even from a romantic interest right in front of him. All of that is about to change with this new case – and a determination to bring him back to the living world partner in Felicity.
Felicity’s magic basically has the ability to trace magic back to its source. She can follow a “line” leading from a dead body back to where they were killed, in a brief explanation that doesn’t cover all she can do. While her magic has helped this case, this taskforce’s boss has decided to bring in help from a local town, a necromancer, even knowing Horace’s history with this type of magic. And now, the story explodes into an intense search for a serial killer, Horace coming back from his darkest place, and Felicity’s hope for something to develop between them romantically. From now on, Horace and Felicity along with other members of the force are on a desperate quest to find a killer and prevent them from taking any more lives. This review is a little bit more than the usual for me in the description of Taskforce Bear Boss, but it is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to intense, emotional, or danger within this story.
I could easily say I was held captive by Felicity, Horace, and the other secondary characters in this story. The action is fast-paced when needed, and comfortably softer, slower when that is the feeling of the scene. There is a lot of supernatural involved here, and it will be fascinating to discover more as the series continues. I am hooked on this dark world, and now I need to know more. If you love a Shifter Romance or Paranormal Romance that is just a touch different than expected and enjoy watching someone be, in effect, rescued by friends and a loved one while facing danger all around them then this is a story and a series you’ll want to check out.

I enjoyed this book. There were a couple noticeable errors but I didn’t find that it detracted from the story. I really liked Horace and Felicity. Horace, is a bear shifter whose sister was m*rdered by a necromancer so in the last year all he does is work and his girlfriend broke up with him because he refuses to talk to her or anyone about his grief or even spend time with her. Felicity works is a police officer and is a thread mage, meaning that she can trace the threads of magic back to an object or a person like tracing from the body to were they were k*lled. They’re on the hunt for a k*ller and have no leads so a necromancer is brought in to consult on the case. Horace isn’t happy but none of his department know why he doesn’t like necromancers so he deals with it. Felicity finally talks Horace into coming out for after work drinks to bond with the team and they start to become friends. Felicity is targeted by the k*ller but she actually doesn’t end up dead like all the other previous victims. Felicity ends up staying at Horace’s house and they become closer. Will they be able to find the k*ller before more people are m*rdered? I’m looking forward to reading Braxton and Malory’s story next. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
I received a copy from BookSprout; this is my honest review. -Be prepared if you don't know the author; she has a mix of everything: witchcraft, voodoo, witches, shifters, etc. -That was funny: "it hated the unnatural curse with a passion". Is it usually natural? -The author describes how Felicity felt: "I could hear everything happening, all the conversations, I knew what was happening, I was just ... trapped in my own body. It wouldn't move". This is all true. I was also able to recognize my nurse's perfume, her touch, and her voice when I came back. -It's not insta-love because Felicity and Horace have been working together for over a year before the story happens but once they noticed the other, everything came together like puzzle pieces. -I liked how the team all worked together with their own abilities. I also liked that Felicity didn't feel threatened when Mallory, or even Rosen, arrived in the department to help. -I think it's a good base for a series and looking forward to the next book.
Horace lives for his job as a police officer, especially after his little sister had been killed and reanimated by a necromancer to fight in an underground fighting ring that used re-animated shifters to fight each other. His colleagues do not know anything about his family or the tragic events that made him into the man he is now. Now they have to fight a serial killer, who does not leave any traces - and even the necromancers of the force that were called in did not uncover any new clues. On of his team members, Felicity, works constantly on him to open up and become a proper member of their team, not just a body. Little by little they get closer, bur so is the killer... A thrilling story, a good mix of romance, suspense and human interest, to make the story engaging and well- balanced. Intriguing story about a mystery and a magical romance
Hoarce is a bear shifter cop trying to solve mysterious murder which leaves no Mark on the victims. Felicity is a Thread mage and a cop. She see threads attached to object and people. Will this mystery be solved?
The characters are intriguing, have interesting magical skills, and unique. The fast paced mystery/drane/romance keeps the reader engaged and interested in solving the murders, what connects them, and how is it being committed. Besides the cops special skills and quirky personalities, this story make the who book comes alive. That is what I love about the different perspective written by this author.
I would recommended this book. I am looking forward to reading others in this series.
This is a crime drama with paranormal magic. Horace is struggling after his sister was murdered and used by necromancers. His team on the police force work paranormal cases and a serial killer is on the loose. Felicity is on his team and uses her magic to find and follow magical culprits. During this case the evil attacks Felicity and Horace realizes there could be something there. First, they have to stop the killer before more magical folks are killed. I liked how this author showed that not everyone is perfect and you can still have a meaningful relationship if things aren't perfect. I enjoyed this book.
This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. Taskforce Bear Boss by Lisa Daniels is the first book in the Bear Bosses of Samhain series. This was in interesting opener. I felt like Horace and Felicity were a reluctant duo. This was a different kind of chemistry between characters than I am used to from Lisa Daniels, but it works. Dealing with death and police work, this is not a typical holiday read, but it was interesting as it delves into the darker side of police work and how shifters and witches work side by side. A good who-dun-it with a twist into the paranormal.

A shifter romance with a deadly mystery. Felicity has a unique power. She can follow a person or object to where it had been. She works as a detective to help solve murders and other crimes. Now there is one killer who is escaping them and killing more. Who, why and how is unknown. The mystery will get more dangerous and will take many unexpected turns. At her side is her boss. He is a bear shifter that is suffering grief that has destroyed parts of his life. There will be pain and death surrounding them until they can solve this case.
Taskforce Bear Boss is book one in the new series Bear Bosses of Samhain by author Lisa Daniels. Intriguing new look in the world of magical characters. This one contains a bit of darkness, along with some moments of courage. This new series looks to be quite the eye opener. Enjoy!!

No Rating. This was a miss for me. The writing is too Dick & Jane for adult readers. 16-21 range would probably be OK with this. Reading this was like reading about kindergartners playing house. When in doubt, read a sample. I suspect, the author will have a modicum of success & if she keeps at it, may with time produce something more mature/sophisticated. Will check back at a later time. This one is just not going anywhere.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It is a new approach to a shifter book and involves witches and ghosts. Along the way Horace and his family is given the chance to heal from his sister's death. Also Horace and Felicity move from coworkers to lovers. They also fall for each other but are still working on that.
This is book 1 in a new series and a different kind of shifter book. We also have witches and ghost. Horace is a cop and when his sister was killed he doubled down on his job to where his girl friend dumped him. These two move from coworkers to something more. Great characters.

Horace is a cop/bear shifter and Felicity is a witch that can trace thread magic. Horace and Felicity work together to find a serial killer who is a necromancer. This is the first book and a great start to the Bear Bosses of Samhain series. The characters are interesting, the storyline is intriguing and filled with magic, shifters, danger, angst, drama, mystery, suspense, and romance. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This was a quick paced story. Sometimes it’s hard to mesh together a little romance and there’s lots of murder and mayhem going on. The main characters in the story are police officers, so it goes along with the job that they have. Everything blended together well in the story flowed smooth. This is a nice little afternoon delight. I read it in one sitting.
Felicity is a Threadseer. Horace is a bear shifter and also Felicity's boss. Both are trying to find a serial killer. They have to spend a lot of off time together. Things heat up. Leaves you wanting more. Good start to this series.
A Hero Shifter Romance/Bear Bosses of Samhain series a well written story that kept me turning pages. I enjoyed reading Horace and Felicity's story of suspense, drama, danger, curses, and romance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A great read about supernatural policing, and the problems that are associated with that. Horace and Felicity are co-workers who carry heavy burdens in their daily lives. How they manage to make things work leads to new adventures and challenges.
Emotionally thrilling, action packed adventure filled with witty and engaging charters, heart racing twists, exciting turns and undeniable passion. Was an edge of your seat so hard to put down exciting read from beginning to end.
This is a well written and intriguing mix of excitement, danger, magic, and murder. The characters are more believable due to the fact that their flaws played a large role in the story.
Horace and Felicity are working on the Phantom case. Both are attacked by the invisible killer and survived. Horace is head of the Taskforce. Felicity is the one who can track the colored threads. It's a very interesting story.
A murder investigating leads to a grumpy bear finding love with his co-worker. Horace is very protective of Felicity and she's teaching him there's more to life than work.
Taskforce Bear Boss (Bear Bosses of Samhain #1) by Lisa Daniels – This police procedural has lots of magic to make solving this murder complicated enough for people to fall in love lol! Happy Reading!
This is an shifter, with a little thread tracing magic and necromancers. It's not my type of story but if you like living dead, shifters with a little magic you will really like this story.
For this new author to me with her first book has a great storyline with which to make use of some of the other magic users. Will be watching to see who they get to interact with next.
