Cheryl is stunned when she finds out she has to go to a shifter academy. A witch with severe limitations to her magic, she's horrified to learn her fate is to be enslaved as a witch to a pack of wolves.
She sets about finding a way out of this fate, determined to escape it. When she starts to feel something for the wolves who are insistent that she's their true mate, her destiny suddenly doesn't seem quite so awful.
Can a witch really find love in the arms of her biggest enemies? Or are the wolves just playing with her heart?
Vicious Love is a standalone new adult shifter academy reverse harem romance with college-aged characters, serious steam and an HEA.
Dnf. 76% and I was just rolling my eyes. Started out ok, then kinda got weird and a bit ridiculous. Things happening in this book really make no sense. How is the beta in the hospital this whole time without his pack knowing? How did Bianca get the topples pic of it H? Why is no one freaking out about that car dude having witch powers that he must be draining and killing for? What is going on in this book? How did our H go from " I won't be a slave in a wolf pack", which I also was so tired of having to hear on Damn repeat. To "I'm a hybrid half wolf all the sudden and I'm freaking going to embrace it now? There is also the " I'm not ur mate", then a 180 of.. About time he's ready to claim me! Just didn't like it
This was an OK read that showed a lot of promise. By the end everything was just too rushed. The heroine is shocked when the 'sorting hat' places her at the shifter academy. It's basically the lowest form of treatment for a witch and all she can expect from her life moving forward is servitude. Even though the books contains shifters and thus mating instincts, I did not love how quick the sexual attraction turned to love. Not to mention the heroine went from planning to be with no one, vowed to not even make a single friend at school, to letting her body take over and suddenly she's fully in lust with two wolves.
Then the big secret kind of fell flat, it was almost too easy to guess where the book was going as it was hinted at far too many times. I wish there was a bit more to the story and even more so I wish the jealous ex wasn't the big bad. And as one of the men (when we meet him) is groveling the loss of his love I could have done without the OW drama altogether. But of course that all changes when he meets the heroine and realizes what true love is (insert major facepalm.) Also I hated how 'grown' they all were, but acted sooooo immature. I also could have done without the drinking problems and drug use they clearly have at such a young age. I mean. No judgement. But it's early morning and one of them is taking shots!!!! Drinking and drugs are not something I'm used to in shifter reads as usually their tolerance is so high so they don't bother. Their behavior just made it hard to take them seriously when they are so naive, young and have so many issues. I don't know, it was almost cheesy and trying too hard but was luckily a quick read. Wish the heroine got to be more of a badass and use her abilities but as there is an offshoot series I'm assuming she may make future appearances with her men.
Vicious Love is the third installment within the Hybrid Shifters series. Now I really enjoyed the first two books, so I was pretty excited to jump into this one. Unfortunately, it just ended up being okay.
In this, you will meet Cheryl. She's a witch and happens to be pretty shocked when she gets selected for the shifter academy. Mostly because of finding out that she will be enslaved as a witch to a pack of wolves. She didn't really expect to find mates along the way, but destiny can be funny sometimes.
Now Cheryl and certain wolves definitely had the tension floating around them. I really enjoyed all their bantering and just wanted more romance between them. Once we got to the good stuff, it kind of felt like things were started to feel rushed. Especially towards the end of the book and that's where I wanted the romance department to be a bit slower.
In the end, it was an okay book and I'm kind of intrigued to jump into the next book.
Cheryl is a witch who’s been sent away to shifter school. If a witch belongs to pack they are usually treated badly. All Cheryl has to do is keep her head down and make it through school.
The hybrid shifter in this series appears to feature in all the books. I like this pack of misfits and Cheryl was a great addition.
Cheryl is a witch with a few limits on her powers. She's selected to go to a shifter academy where she learns she is to be enslaved to a wolf pack. Fighting to change her destiny, she learns that she is the fated mate to some of these wolves and that her future may not be as bleak as she once imagined.
This one took a little getting into before I started enjoying the story. The beginning was on the flat side with minimal action or intrigue to keep me invested. The writing was done well, but the story itself is what didn't quite work immediately for me.
I will say that while I enjoyed the overall story, there we several places that made no sense or were confusing on how they occurred. The beta of the pack was in the hospital, yet no one knew about it? Seems very unlikely and wasn't explained well enough to convince me it could happen. Plus Cheryl did a quick 180 with her idea of the pack. She constantly said she didnt want to be a slave to them and then was OK with it, or that she denied being their mate for so long and then suddenly she's like "well its about time you claimed me"?
Vicious Love by Romy Lockhart is another exciting dive into her hybrid world and a definite must read for any fated mate rh romance fan.
This is the story of Cheryl, a young low level hybrid witch who is shocked to discover her that instead of going to a witch academy like she thought, instead she is sent to the Lunar Academy. Thinking this is a fate worse than death, that she will be forever entrapped and enslaved by the wolves as the pack witch she has little hope of being happy and strives to keep a low profile to avoid being trapped by an alpha into their pack.
However fate intervenes once again and throws her headfirst into not only a group of shifters where there’s instant attraction and chemistry and they proclaim her to be their true mate, but also fellow possible pack members that are also drawn to herThe only problem is…she’s a human witch hybrid and shouldn’t be feeing these things. Or should she….
Everett, Noah and Oscar are the perfect blend of guys to keep Cheryl on her toes and I can’t wait to see what the future brings for them all! So overall, if you’re a fan of medium burn, fated mate, reverse harem romances featuring witches and shifters and lots of steamy action then this is the one for you!

✅ no cheating, safe sex, no mc death
☑️ This is a pretty safe read, there’s some killing of secondary characters
The premise for this story is great, but like many other reviewers it definitely needed some beta readers to shore up the multiple loose ends and staggering transitions. Honestly I should rate this a 2.5 because so many things just didn’t make sense.
The world building left much to be desired, I’ve never seen a pack operate like this one with no feelings or communication through the bond and they all lived separately. I think there’s supposed to be growth in that regard and there was, except we weren’t given a great reason for why the pack was fractured in the first place other than an ex GF but that still didn’t make sense. Just see my Notes for all the examples of things that needed explanations.
Still, the characters were each distinct and the ending was good, but rushed. It only took one paragraph for the school to stop enslaving witches.
I read book 2 first and then came back to read this one, I loved the storey and really don't get the reviews that say it was rushed or that the characters are weak as they in my oppinion are not - These are stand alone books and you cant get as much detail in them as you could with a series , I really enjoyed the storey and eth world its been created in. Cheryl's world as she knows it falls apart when she is designated a place at a shifter academy and destined to become a pack witch who are normally treated no better than slaves, Separated from her best friend and family she needs to find a way to survive. It 's difficult to say much more with out giving too much away but lets just say that there are a fair few twists and turns along the way and everything comes together to give us a really enjoyable storey
Witch Cheryl (FMC) goes a shock when at her graduation she finds out the she has to go to Lunar Academy. A place for shifters and not really a place for Witches. So she sticks out like a sore thumb there but she finds her feet there with plenty of sass, wit and sarcasm. More problems for her come in the form of stalker - Oscar, Noah who has his own anxieties and Everett who is pretty much anti-social especially towards Cheryl. This was a pretty good read with likable characters
I enjoyed reading Vicious Love! My favorite character is Oscar, how can you not love a fun loving omega that never doubts that your the one!! Then there is Noah that figured out that he needed Cheryl more then Lucy. Last but not least, the alpha, Everett, hard headed with a soft heart. I love them all!!
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book! It was impossible to put down and very well-written. I thought the world building was well done with enough left to the imagination for surprises. The characters were wonderful and the concept was original. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I loved this book. Cheryl and her pack are amazing. I loved the plot and the twists to this story great steam and a lot of fun I could not put this book down.
This is a great read. Well written this is a standalone new adult shifter academy reverse harem romance with college-aged characters, serious steam and an HEA. Exciting and intriguing, the author does a fab job with the world building and character development. Witches and wolves, fated mates with hot and steamy chemistry and twists and turns to keep you hooked.
Omg I totally loved this book, not only could I not put it down with such an amazing story. The fact that this book is dedicated to me and every other Cheryl out their. Made it all the more special right from the start. The book starts with us meeting Cheryl just before the graduation of her year, where she finds out she has been chosen to go to shifter academy. When she arrives things start to change. Firstly she gains a stalker by the name of Oscar, then she meet Noah. Who she can't help going to make sure he's ok after things occur. From here we see things go through so many twists with her roommate Vi and Ivy, to her meeting the Alpha to Noah and Oscar. And what a meeting that is wowser. This book is nice and steamy to especially by the end, which leads to such a happy ending that made my heart melt. Thank you Romy for such an amazing book and a great named character and the wolves that close to my heart. This book is definitely worth picking up hands down
Mystery, suspense, paranormal, romance and drama were a fascinating mixture thst made up this story. It had everything I love in s story and on top of that, it was a fun and entertaining read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I've read several books written by Romy Lockhart; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.

This is an entertaining well written story with well developed characters. The author does a great job bringing both her characters and story to life with her detailed and descriptive writing and paints her scenes perfectly. She pulled me in with all the twists throughout as well as the romance with all the steam. I loved Cheryl's feisty character and enjoyed reading this story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I absolutely adored this book. Watching as Cheryl grows and finds her own future is great. The romance doesn’t feel rushed either. This book is definitely worth a read and I can see myself rereading it in the future.
I enjoyed this book. Super easy read. There are a few parts where I wondered what the backstory was but otherwise it kept my attention all the way through. Definitely recommend giving it a try.
Rating: 3 Stars POV(s): Multiple—First Person Relationship: Reverse Harem Genre(s): Urban Fantasy Romance, New Adult
Let’s start with how misleading the book description is: “Vicious Love is a standalone new adult shifter academy reverse harem romance”—okay, but except it’s NOT a standalone? Book #6 of this series is a continuation of the main characters’ story—“with college-aged characters, serious steam and an HEA”—again, the main characters’ story continues in book #6 with a brand new conflict. This ends on a Happy For Now rather than a Happily Ever After. I actually almost read book six first because it’s also being advertised as a “standalone”; if I hadn’t looked at the other books in the series and connected that both synopses mentioned the FMC’s name (Cheryl) and put two and two together I wouldn’t have known.
The author really threw the term ”slavery” around a lot in reference to being a pack witch, but didn’t back it up with any real explanation. Why are witches only treated like slaves in shifter packs? There’s no historical or political context that makes it make sense—we just have to accept it as the way of things. And then in one of the last chapters, after a time skip of “a few months”, the FMC drops the bomb, “I freed the witches at the academy. They’ve drawn up new rules. They can’t take more witches. It’s been deemed immoral.” Um, how did she manage to overturn slavery in a few months? Who did she have to talk to to make that happen? Is there a government? A council? A witches rights group? Why hadn’t anyone tried to eliminate slavery sooner? Did others try and fail? Or did everyone just accept it as the status quo? I have so many questions.
There’s a difference between fact-paced and rushed—this was rushed. The world building needed to support the pacing was absent, and the story fell apart because of it.
The main characters left much to be desired. Supposedly, Oscar’s omega nature and lack of mate makes him so horny that his charming personality has been replaced by depraved thoughts and actions (that’s the actual explanation given). Elliott the alpha, has a literal “too cool for school” attitude. For a long time it read like he was disgusted to learn that his true mate was a witch instead of a wolf, but then it’s explained that he just doesn’t want to claim her because he doesn’t want to keep her as a slave—I’m not 100% convinced that he wasn’t actually disgusted by her. On to Noah, the beta—I actually liked him, enough said. Lastly, Cheryl, our FMC witch-wolf hybrid. Home girl was all over the place. I almost DNF’d at 24% when she climbs on top of the unconscious MMC—who she met a total of one time, and talked to for all of two minutes before he fainted—and starts to kiss and grind on him, “This is messed up, Cheryl. Get down. My common sense tells me this is wrong, that I should get down, but some deeper instinct controls me now.” Consent is still a thing, “true mates” or not, and she shouldn’t blame “instincts” for sexually assaulting him (even if he liked it) as if she isn’t responsible for her actions.
Honestly, this book just needs A LOT of editing. However I’m still moving on to book six.
Romy has written another great book with Vicious Love, the third book in the Hybrid Shifters series. Each book in the first half of the series follows a different rh group (the later books are follow-up stories) but the characters interconnect. I have to admit that I didn't read the first half of the series in order. So far I've read books one, then four, after that I read the fifth book, a novella, and now I've read three. I still haven't read the second book but plan to.
After reading a few books in this series I have to say that Vicious Love was quite the surprise, I knew it was gonna be good but this book has a different feel to it, the characters and the plot were different and the story just pulled me in.
Cheryl is only a quarter witch and after graduating from her local school was sent to Lunar Academy which is made of predominantly shifters who use witches as glorified slaves. You would think that she would keep her head down but Cheryl has a strong personality and most definitely gives off that "don't take no crap" attitude which I liked, my only problem with her was that she jumps to conclusions a lot, and make decisions without analyzing the situations.
As for the love interests Everett, Noah, and Oscar are a pack, an alpha, a beta, and an omega, and they are a hot mess. They are disconnected and drink too much. I didn't like Everett (is a grumpy bear who has met his match) at first he seems like a jerk however he got better as I got to know him. Noah leads with his heart and has made some mistakes, but has learned while Oscar is a mess and a mystery but is the most open of the three. It's obvious the guys need Cheryl to come together as a pack.
I enjoyed the plot a lot, getting to know more about witches in this world was interesting. However, it was the unique twist to the alpha/beta/omega rh that drew me in. I can't reveal anything without spoiling the story but I will say that I haven't seen the situation they ended up in before which of course up the entertainment factor. Then add in the drama and the fact that Cheryl has no clue about shifter culture which made the story that much better.
Vicious Love was a fun and entertaining read that I absolutely love. The world that Romy has created is awesome, I love the characters and their stories. Each story is unique and adds to the shared world. Cheryl and the pack aren't finished yet, Moon Cursed is the follow-up to Vicious Love and I will be diving in soon.
I'm so glad I got the chance to catch up with this book before the sequel to this story is being released! It was the only book in the entire series I hadn't read so far and since I enjoyed the others immensely I always felt a little sad about that. I'm glad that, along with my arc for the sequel, I also received a copy of this book from the author. And since I had some spare time on Friday it was the perfect moment to get started with this story.
Although I loved all the other girls and their stories to pieces, I think this might be my favorite read out of all of the released books so far. And I guess that has a lot to do with the setting and the amount of, sort of, politics included. It's quite clear that the wolves and witches at this academy are in an unhealthy situation and it's quite clear that this school needs someone very special, who can lead both, to change that.
I also really loved the three guys, the rest of the pack, in this book. Although they're still clearly pack and in their own way caring about each other, they're quite clearly a different kind of pack than the other packs we meet in this series. They've grown apart, they each have their own issues to deal with and they're each doing that in their own way. And it's mostly because they miss the glue, destined to keep them all together.
And although our heroine is a special kind of girl, destined to change the way witches and wolves interact and destined to bring a pack that has grown apart back together, she never feels like this special snowflake. She's easy to like and therefore she's also easy to root for. At times she makes mistakes, at times she doesn't trust her brain and at times she messes up, but that only makes her all the more realistic.
I can't wait to see how all these characters are doing in their sequel!
When I started this book I felt like it had a lot of potential for a riveting plot line. The different “colleges” and the fact that the FMC was picked for the shifter academy had me intrigued. However, things went a little stale for me after she got there. First she is adamant about not being “slave” to a shifter pack, then suddenly flipping and embracing it like she never rebelled to begin with. She could have put up more of a fight.
Then there were a lot of plot points that could have been given more detail. The shifter stealing witch powers, the “crazy ex” rallying her friends to essentially commit genocide and the lackluster outcome of that, the fact that the FMC was a witch (even “just a charmer”) who barely used any magic, and the whole “freeing the witches” plot point. I would have liked to see HOW that happened.
The other issue I had, which is probably more personal preference, but I’m not a fan of the ABO/mates dynamic here. I couldn’t get on board with the FMC being mated to the guys in one pack but also having a totally separate pack of “just friends”. Also I struggled with the pack members being very ambivalent in their relationships with each other. They are pack but ack like hardly acquaintances. Not knowing their beta was in hospital was weird to me.
All in all, a decent read for free on KU. Probably won’t be adding it to my bookshelf though.
Cheryl thinks she's 1/4 witch and 1/4 human. She graduating and hoping to head to a witch college. Surprise! She's headed to Lunar Academy where she'll become a witch (actually slave) to a werewolf pack. Once there she meets a pack of wolves who tell her she's their true mate (which only another wolf can be). And she meets two girlfriends who tell her she's their alpha (which only another wolf can be). Turns out, she's a wolf and a witch! Everything wraps up in a neat little bow in about 10 pages at the end: She reconciles with her parents, her mate is sober, she frees the witch slaves, etc.
I rated this four stars because I think it's a decent book. I read it in one evening. However, the end wrapped so up quick and so neatly, I'm like "wait, how did she free the witch slaves?!" And "wait, I want to see how her two packs mesh!" And "wait, all of her mates changed in some way to be with her?!" And "wait, she's like one of a very few female alphas ever?!"

This book does bot read like a college aged romance. There are no principles, curfews and detention in college, yet this book has all three. Not to mention the mentally of these characters are hardly at an 18 year level, even though the fmc is supposed to be 18 and the guys roughly 3 years older than her. Being that this was a standalone, I pushed myself to finish it because I didn't want to leave it unfinished, but I shouldn't have bothered. There's so much of this book that I didn't like, that it feels unfair to mention it at all. This made me feel like I was 15 again reading on Wattpad, which at that age I probably would have loved. But at 27? Not at all.
Not quite 3 stars. I did not read books 1 & 2, not realizing it was part of series from the blurb, but I was not lost, so I would say this one at least was a stand alone book in the series. Others might like this better than I did, but it just wasn't riveting to me as the type of book to stay up all night & not be able to put it down. This is sort of a simplistic & predictable plot, also a bit cheesy at times. The character development was sort of flat, I never really felt like I knew the characters & they were forgettable when the story was done. It was a good break in my book slump of bad books at least. Not a story I’d want to re-read though & not enough to want to read more in the series.
