The Enneagram Beginner’s Guide is a concise starter book for utilizing the Enneagram of Personality to find true authenticity and develop a better understanding of others around you. Inside, you will learn how the Enneagram works and uncover the process to determine your personality type.

Due to its effectiveness in self-discovery, the popularity of the Enneagram of Personality has grown in recent years. Through interpreting the structure of the Enneagram, this book shows you what it takes to become the healthy, confident, and effective person you were meant to be.

During my tenure as a couple’s therapist, I stumbled upon the Enneagram with the sole intention of helping my clients. As I learned the Enneagram’s true power, I decided to write a book to make it easier for beginners to understand and speed up the process of applying its principles.

In this book, you will discover:

I really appreciate that this book is a very concise, straightforward resource for understanding the Enneagram. However, as someone who has known about the Enneagram for awhile and already typed herself, I didn’t actually learn very much new information from it. I guess that’s to be expected since it says it’s for beginners, but it’s definitely very very basic. However, if I had never learned about the Enneagram, I could see this being a great resource. I took one star off because it’s clearly a self-published book, and it definitely reads like it. Some parts are very repetitive; and thought it’s informative, the author has a hard time getting a clear point across and has a tendency to talk in circles. I just get the feeling that the author knows a lot about the subject, but not a lot about writing.

A Good Intro to Enneagrams

I have had a curiosity about enneagrams for a while, and have picked up several books at my favorite book review site in the hopes that they would give me better insights into this somewhat complex way of looking at personality, motivations, and goals. Often, these books have confused more than enlightened. In this book, the author breaks down many ideas about enneagrams simply. The book has a logical flow to it, first looking at the roots of the enneagram system and then the emotional underpinnings of each type before delving deeper into the motivations and goals of each of the nine types. What I particularly liked about this book was the last section about how enneagrams affect relationships. I don't think I've seen that in other beginner's guides. I like how the author shares how to improve relationships using the system. He has done it himself, so he doesn't only come from a “heady” point of view, but also a practical one. While the book doesn't go into everything about enneagrams, of course, it certainly introduces concepts well so that the beginner can have a better sense about what it is and isn't and even how to apply it so it can help you and your relationships with those around you.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

For some reason, Amazon says I can't post this review on the book's page, stating that my account can post to the product. I have no idea why. I don't know the author in any capacity; I have not worked with him as an editor. So far as I know, no one I know has reviewed the book—anyone that uses my home internet connection. Shrug. At least I can post here.
