Rochelle "Rocky" Thomas hadn't planned on going home this Christmas, but a last minute guilt trip from her older sister, Jasmia, leads to her walking into her childhood home and coming face to face with the woman who has haunted her dreams (and her fantasies) for the past ten years, Georgia Lee.Rocky hadn't meant to crush hard on her sister's former best friend, but the heart wants what it wants, and it longs to have this Christmas wish fulfilled. Will Rocky find the courage to ask for what she really wants, or will this Christmas go by without the gift she really desires? This Christmas novella is full of steam and heart just in time to heat up your holiday season!
Karmen Lee is an avid reader of anything and everything. She’s a lifelong Southerner living it up in Atlanta, Georgia with her kid, her cats, and humidity. When she’s not packing lunches or working her normal nine-to-five, you can usually find her drinking coffee too late at night, watching House Hunters International and dreaming up ways to show her readers a good time. Her Christmas Wish by Karmen Lee Contemporary sapphic holiday romance novella. Own voice. Rochelle Thomas is home for Christmas this year and finds a former crush there too. Rocky has had a thing for Georgia Lee for a long time but tried to ignore it. Maybe this year her Christmas wish will come true and she and Georgia can be more than just her sister’s friend.
A favorite troupe of mine, sibling’s best friend is the heart of this steamy novella. Family plays a part during the Christmas season with making sure Rocky knows they are there for whatever she needs. Gaining confidence from her family’s support, Rocky is finally able to express herself and her feelings. Now it’s up to them both to take the next step.
Eh. This was fine. This was one of those books that was really easy to read, and while reading it, I felt no desire to stop, but I didn't get much out of it. The trope and setup are really cute: f/f sister's best friend romance, black love, mutual oblivious pining, they reconnect at the family home after long years apart. But the decision to have them be like, just meeting after so many years apart was a bad one, imo. This novella is so short, and I don't think enough of a connection was established between them, neither in the past nor present. No meat on the bones of this relationship at all. And like, I picked this up because it's a Christmas romance and I'm in my holiday ho era, but the Vibes™ just were not there. They wrapped some presents once; that's about it.
Nothing egregiously wrong with it; it was short and cute and hot, and I really liked how nerdy Rocky was. But also... eh.
This was just really sweet. I definitely would have loved for it to be longer. I at least wanted to know what they got each other for Christmas. But I’m here all day for the way Jas handled things. If forbidden romance because of siblings must be a thing, then they need to be like her lol
“You would think ten years would be enough to snuff out those pesky unrequited feelings…”
If Karmen Lee is writing it then, I’m reading it. I do not come across Black sapphic holiday books often. So, I was excited to have found this one right on time for the winter season.
-soft age gap (26/30) -a decade long crush -sistership -supportive parents -subtle spice
My only qualm was the chemistry between the MCs not being flushed out. I wouldn’t have minded an epilogue or a few more pages to sync the relationship together. It fell into more of an insta-love trope than friends to lovers or unrequited love.
This book was a quick and enjoyable read. Lots of sweet family moments throughout, giving it a nice Christmas feel. Rocky and Georgia are a second-chance romance and their story is a whole lot of “we can’t do this… but maybe?” until they finally get out of their own way.
This is my first read by the author and I enjoyed it. It’s short and sweet, but I wish the chemistry was a bit more flushed out. Some of the dialogue and actions felt misplaced, especially the argument that threw me for a loop. Otherwise, it was cute!
4 stars. Older sister’s best friend romance Christmas novella. It was very cute and I loved the relationship between Rocky and Georgia. It was a sweet and steamy Christmas novella.
This was a perfect Christmas story, just what i was hoping for! I am a sucker for sibling's best friend trope. This review is kinda hard to write, becuase it just what it seems to be, a sweet Christmas story about finding love. Though I do like Rocky and her balls to go after what she wants.
"Her Christmas Wish" is part of "A Sweet Heat Holiday Novella" series by Karmen Lee. This was an enjoyable short read and went by fairly quickly. Rochelle (Rocky) is back home after a breakup. Her sister, Jasmia, texts her to act normal during her Christmas visit. Rocky wasn't sure why Jasmia would say that until Jasmia brings home Rocky's childhood crush, Georgia, for Christmas. Karmen did such a great job with writing each of the characters and how they felt. I enjoyed the family feel of this story. My favorite part was when Rocky finally let her feelings known. I also liked the scene when Rocky and her mother had a talk, and her mother let her know that she had known things for years.
This was a quick read. Rochelle is home for Christmas and finds out that her sister's best friend, Georgia will be there too. Rochelle had a crush on Georgia. At times it was funny when Rocky's family tries to "help." If you like steamy books and sibling's best friend trope, this is a book for you.
I randomly came across this story while looking for something short to read. It was a pleasant surprise. I like the trope of the friend being attracted to the sibling and vice versa. The whole forbidden element is sexy. My one criticism is that I felt like it needed to be longer to flesh out the two characters reuniting. The tension wasn't as strong because of that.
Her Christmas Wish is a holiday novella that succeeds largely because of the emotional groundwork Karmen Lee manages to establish in a short span of time. What could have easily felt like pure instalust is instead supported by a clear, long-standing history between the two leads. Rocky has been in love with her sister’s best friend, Georgia, for years—so much so that her mother was unsurprised when Rocky later came out. Georgia, for her part, had always thought of Rocky as a kid… until one pivotal moment changed everything.
Lee does a good job showing how Georgia’s attraction didn’t suddenly appear, but instead evolved slowly and painfully. Her avoidance, paired with the quiet habit of collecting small souvenirs for Rocky over the years, adds tenderness and emotional weight to their eventual reunion. When the two are finally thrown together at Christmas—with not-so-subtle nudges from Rocky’s family—their connection feels earned, even if the timeline is compressed.
That said, the novella format limits how much room the story has to breathe. The plot moves quickly, and Rocky and Georgia don’t get many private, quiet moments together before their relationship turns physical. The romantic payoff arrives late, and while the spice is present, it’s fairly restrained. Still, this was an enjoyable seasonal read—sweet and warm, even if it left me wanting just a bit more space for the relationship to unfold.
Wish this was longer 😭😭😭 wish we got to see them interact a bit more before the lead up of them expressing their feelings for each other just to really see their interactions/connection with one another - bc we mostly just got glimpse from the past & how they crushed on each other before but it would have been nice to seem them crush on one another in the present & see them awkwardly stumble with each other and then profess their love - would have helped it feel a bit more believable and have more buy-in with them as a couple.
Even with they said it was a cute read, if you want something short (personally too short for me lolll). A few minor grammatical errors but it didn’t take away from enjoying the book.
I read this over the holidays and it was perfect. Just what I was in the mood for. It’s short, but packs in all the feelings.
What I liked most was that I felt the longing between the two main characters. I really wanted them to get together.
The main hitch in that is that Georgia is Rocky’s older sister’s best friend. While Rocky has always had a crush on Georgia, Georgia has kept any feelings at bay due to Rocky being the kid sister who tagged along, and changing gears to Rocky is a grown woman now is taking time to get used to.
In the end they let all of that go and give in to their feelings. It’s just a cute, feel good story.
Rocky is Georgia's best friend's sister and these two might have been pining over each other. Now that they are both single and back for Christmas why not finally say hoe they feel. This novella was short and sweet. It went from a crush to lets get married real fast 😅 Anyone very cute
CW/N: strained family dynamics, breakup, parent death, coming out
It’s always hard to be in love and not knowing it is returned. What a wonderful story of love finally getting together. Thank you Karmen for a beautiful Christmas love story. I definitely recommend this story to anyone that loves, love stories. You will love this one.
The mutual pining was almost too much. This was a quick read and I really enjoyed it! I think the Thomas family slick meddling was my favorite part of the whole book, I feel like they were sick of Rocky/Georgia playing games. I do wish we got a little more of them as a couple but other than that I enjoyed it!!
Wish it was longer. Although it was a novella it didn’t seem rushed. Nor did the two main love interests seemed forced or too soon. The author built up a plausible Back story that the characters played out via dialogue and the chemistry and passion between the two was Definitely haute!! Great read.
So Karen Lee sure knows how to deliver a short, very hot sexy story that managed to show some deeper feelings of love along the way. I totally got into the history of these two women and enjoyed the play of the supporting cast. All together a quick trip to happiness!
Best friend's sister trope meets sapphic pining. Enjoyed a lot of this book. The spice had a lot of ✨fluid✨ talk so it wasn't my favorite but if that is your thing, read this! Checks the cozy Christmas boxes.
This is my first time reading from this author and I enjoyed it. I really liked the family support depicted in this story. The romance between Rocky and Georgia was good and relatable. The bedroom scene was hot.
I thought this was a sweet F/F short story about taking a chance on love! I loved how supportive the heroine's family was on her life choices. Recommended: Read It!
