Glittering gold, shimmering pearls, and deceptive diamonds…
The Aspen leaves turn golden, prompting a season of romance to fall over the little Colorado town of Estes Park. As love is professed through precious gems, the local jewelry shop on Elkhorn Avenue experiences a rush of customers—not all of whom have the best of intentions.
When Winifred Page, accompanied by her cute curmudgeon of a corgi, Watson, stumbles upon the aftermath of a robbery of Aspen Gold, the owners ask for her help. With tourists few and far between at the Cozy Corgi Bookshop, Fred welcomes the chance to investigate. However, as is so often the case, the brilliance of romance gets tarnished a bit, and the cut of the situation might not be exactly as it appears. The only thing that is crystal clear, is by the time the case is closed, more than one life will be forever altered…

I freaking love this series and this may have had the most complicated mystery yet. Starting the book I was a little lost and felt like I'd missed something because we are thrown in the midst of panicky situation for Fred. But as the story moves on more is explained and more twists come flying out of the woodwork. I literally had no idea what was going on and went down several rabbit holes. But not only is there a bizarre situation going on in Estes...I feel like Fred was struggling with some internal issues that left me unsettled as well. Nevertheless, the mystery was entertaining, kept me glued to the pages and grabbed my emotions with the sense of family and swooning with Leo. Such a fun series and I'm so excited we will be getting more and more books.
I always enjoy Cozy Corgi mysteries, and I loved the big moments for the series in this one! These always include a recipe for a baked good. I don’t usually make them, as my body doesn’t really get along with gluten. The recipe in this book looks like it might actually convert well, and I’m excited to try it!
Book 21. Another great book in the series. Both Fred and Katie get engaged. In this one Brittany( Fred neice) is hanging out with girls that get in trouble with stealing. Avery Shelly Becky were the teenager's parents. Something fishy was going on there. At Aspen Gold Jewerly Shop, Julian is taking people's jewelry when they want it sized , cleaned and stealing the real diamonds in his parents Jewerly Shop. These are Amazing stories in these series. I've been reading all her books in series 1 to 21. And I will keep on reading them
Not to give the plot away, I will just say... I absolutely loved this book. Beginning with the first paragraph, last paragraph in the third chapter, heck the entire book caught me up in the action.
Theft, murder, and love, what more can a reader ask for? Oh yes, Watson!
This series is a joy to read and is only getting better each book.
Jaded Jewels-#21 (Cozy Corgi Mystery Series) Full 5 Stars Plus Plus Plus in this story A Do Not Miss Book! Filled with spectacular-1st time style writing surprises like never before, suspense all-the-way through, romance for several couples-charming & disarmingly shocking, full of teen angst, a love story, infidelty, jewel theft, lies, deceit murder, long term decei/theft. Mildred Abbott creates such unique neighborly cozy characters with a community of Estes Park. While reading you are compelled to find several if not most of the characters so much fun & ‘filled out’ you do not want to leave them. You get to know the comfortable stores, most along Elkhorn. The beauty of the Mountains where Main Character Fred lives. This story has a new store owners, the store is Taffy Lane. OMG not to ruin it-the store is laid out like the game. Meandering hardwood floors painted paths in alternating blue, grn, pink, orange, yellow & blk squares roughed w/age. One feels like your walking on a game board. Aged wood painted signs over sections labeled-Peppermint Mint Stick Forest, Gumdrop Mtn, Lollipop Woods,Macaron Meadows, Fudge Village, and Taffy Lane. How much fun is this? Freds Cozy Corgi Bookshop/Bakery is the coziest but this may be the Happiest! Watson & Fred visit and Watson has trouble with all the treats-Fred is concerned he will be in a sugar coma inside of 3 minutes if she can’t keep his leash tight.
Winifred ‘Fred’ & her beloved grumpy, treat seeking Corgi Watson are front & center based in their Cozy Corgi Bookshop. Best Friend, co-owner of the Bakery on the top floor over the Cozy Corgi, is Katie Pizzolato, happy, smiling, hippo-loving best baker, chai maker & ultimate knowledgeable person of trivia and Watson’s organic treat maker. Fred’s fiance is super sweet guy,Forest Ranger at the very nearby National Park, Katie’s fiance is Joe Singer another very kind loving guy. Good friend Paulie Bezor owns ‘Paws’ The pet store the st from the Bookstore. Along with Paulie you must know his 2 Corgi’s (“‘)(“”) Flotsam & Jetsam. Everyone does :>) Plus, Athena Rose & her tiny poodle Pearl whom she is Never with out, look for her big purse. Pearl loves Watson. These great intelligent friends get together when things are happening in town, to try and sort out mysterious things. Detective Susan Green has labeled them `the Scoobie Gang’ ...hhmm you’ll see.
Susan has more to do with them this time. You will find out that Detective Susan Green has some of the BEST scenes! Usually disagreeable to people interfering with police business as Fred always does. She has many names for her supposed distaste for Watson. The verbal dance the 3 of them do is not to be missed. The same with any scene with Watson, this chubby Corgi always on the scent of a treat with an eye roll lets you know it’s time to move on when treats are not found. Cold shoulder if a promise of a treat is forgotten, or he will stubbornly refuse to move when it’s time to really get moving. He does have a superpower of finding bodies & a `tell’ Fred understands. OH ..Detective Susan also has a brother... he owns-the magic shop Alakazam, located right between Taffy Lane and Aspen Gold.
You get so much more than the $price of a kindle, Or book. You will find yourself like the mass of others Going back to find the rest in this fabulous series. I have read them all several times. Well worth it
Note to myself, “Do not judge a book by Mildred Abbott by reading the first chapter.” Eager to begin Cozy Corgi Book 21!!! I dashed through Chapter One. Oh sweetness, a little restaurant fire, no bodies, no blood. Going to be a fluff read! Well, I was wrong. In the hands of the master suspense story teller, Ms. Abbott weaves, an enormous diamond, gold hippos, teen moods, family drama, the continued grumpy, treat-seeking Watson, and the earnest Scooby Gang into an only in Estes Park mystery. The end of the tourist season means there are fewer distractions for the shop owners and more time to concentrate on the movements of the residents, whispered secrets and gossip. Fred is as usual careful to act as the unofficial side kick to Detective Green without divulging too many of her own solutions to the puzzle pieces presented. All and all this book is a hug for all of the readers who have fallen in love with the distinctive and very much one of a kind characters who inhabit the Cozy Corgi Mysteries. Lots of giggles and a few sniffs too. Then there are Katie’s Oaty Ginger Crunch Bars enjoyed throughout the book. Luckily, the recipe is included, simply add your own Dirty Chai.
Watson makes this book. He keeps things from getting tedious as the plot unfolds much more slowly than usual and with a few detours that we might not have needed. I enjoyed the new characters, some of whom I hope to see in future books.
One of my favorite things about this series from the very beginning was the impeccable editing. Sadly, the quality of the editing and proofreading in the last two books haven’t been what I’ve come to expect from Ms. Abbott’s work. That said, I’m still looking forward to reading the next book.
Another amazing mystery!❤️. This book centered around families! A jeweler and his wife that had a son that was spoiled rotten and was a thief on top of that! Three families with teen age girls going through phases in their life of skipping classes and secrets that were hidden! Leo finally finding the perfect engagement ring and proposed to Fred again! With a murder, a secret involving a locket that was stolen that revealed what the secret was about, and Leo and Fred and of course Watson another great book!
I love this series. This book is #21 and it is a great mystery! Didn’t have a clue who the murderer was until the ending. Fred and Watson are a great crime fighting duo. She is a strong, intelligent woman and he is a typical grumpy, but lovable Corgi. I would urge you start reading this series with book 1. Exceptional character development, making you believe you know them quite well. I highly recommend this series.
What can I say that's new about all the talent MILDRED POURS INTO EACH and every Fred and Watson book? I love all the characters , the town of ESTES PARK , LEO of course , the humour, suspense ,, and Especially all the situations we always find ourselves in as we become deeply ensconced in each book. I wish you all the joy of reading this hard working author's wonderful books. You will never be disappointed .
I didn’t think The Cozy Corgi Mysteries could get any better but this was the best of the series. A surprise ending with some troubled teens and a spoiled rotten adult makes for interesting reading. Watson is his usual grumpy corgi self. Fred and Leo finally get engaged and Katie and Joe too. Sure wish Katie was around where I live so I could enjoy some of those delicious sounding foods. This was the best of the series! Jo
Another triumph for Mildred and Watson. Fred and Leo are dining out , without Watson, when there is a fire, disrupting a special occasion. Another start of an exciting adventure for Fred and Watson. There are lots of surprises popping up with new and old characters . taking stage.
I somehow managed to read the majority of this series in about 10days. Now I'm mad because I have to wait awhile for the next one. My only complaints are ; the main character spends to much time pondering on how lucky she is. I know it's better than complaining about your life but it's a little to much for me. AND does anybody wash their hands after petting these dogs???
Some series have a hard time keeping stories straight as the series progresses, this isn't one of those. Each book adds another layer as perfectly as any of the bakeries confections.
I love Fred and Watson and all the wonderful characters in this series by Mildred Abbott and have from book one. It is a must read for anyone who loves cozies. I can't wait for the next one.
I have read each and every one of these fabulous crib books! In fact I have read them more than once! They are so beautifully written! Thank you for such a wonderful treat!
Leo and Fred are engaged, but the ring doesn't seem right. There have been jewelry thefts all over town. Add in a disappearance which turns into murder and Fred and Watson are on the case with the police department. I recommend this book to anyone.
Exciting! Kept my interest from the start to the finish it was refreshing not to have Fred in danger. I recommend this book to everyone. It helps if you have read the preceding books!
One of the best yet in this series! Talk of engagements and weddings abound. Fred works on solving a mystery with out a murder (what?) Secrets are shared, actions taken and consequences come home to roost. A very enjoyable visit to Elkhorn and Estes Park.
Another fun book to visit our friends in Estes Park. Join Watson, Fred, Leo, Katie, on their latest adventure. Totally fun way to escape. And another great recipe!!!
While this book is well written and fun to read, it didn't hold my interest as much as the others have. Of course, the author can't leave us hanging so I'm sure there will be a #22 !
I love these books. The characters are so real they are like long time friends. The setting of Estes Park is so perfect and all the quirky characters that came in to every book. And the mystery! If you like cozy mysteries you really should try the Cozy Corgi series. You will love Watson! I recommend this book.
I am always amazed at how an author can produce a book that simply takes your breath away! Particularly when the story is No. 21 in a series that I never tire of since each adventure is new and fresh! I can hardly wait for the next in this series!
Great Fred and Watson read. As Fred searches for answers to murder and mayhem in Estes Park, her life is moving toward its inevitable promise of life with her beloved park ranger even amidst stolen jewels and dysfunctional families.
