Stolen by an Alien #8

The Alien’s Little Sister

Rate this book
MATT:

When my employee propositions me, I’m taken aback. Yeah, she's gorgeous, exotic, and adventuresome, but besides the issue of me being her boss, she proposes something casual. Which is reason enough to give me pause, because I’m not a casual kind of guy.

But long story short, we get together, it’s great, and I’m crazy about her, which means I have a big problem. Seven of them, actually—that’s how many brothers she has. And I don’t know about you, but to me, that sounds like the recipe for an @$$ whooping. *Seven* super overprotective brothers means they aren’t going to hesitate to beat me into a whimpering bag of meat for touching their little sister. Yippee.

Is that enough to deter me from falling for her? Evidently not, and I guess it’s because Inara is an alien, and there are a couple of pretty big galaxies separating me from her bad@$$ family, so I’m safe.

Or so I pretend. Because it isn’t the threat of her brothers that worries me. It’s these damn inconvenient feelings that stubbornly refuse to quit growing. I care about Inara. A lot. And that’s a problem because as far as she’s concerned, she still thinks she’s just having a simple fling.

Me? Here’s the whole truth: I freaking love her. And she’s going to break my heart when she goes back home without me...

Unless I convince her to take me with her.

***The Alien’s Little Sister is a laugh-out-loud 67K rom-com with a little sci-fi twist. <3

-ˏˋ Overall Thoughts ˎˊ-

HUH. . .well that was. . .a time. This is gonna be quick because well, FOR ONCE, I don't really have much to say. *gasps overly loud for dramatic effect* The Alien's Little Sister was another fun alien romance from author Amanda Milo. Overall, THE ALIEN'S LITTLE SISTER was fun, buuuuut I was hoping for just a bit more. See as a connoisseur of alien romance I've come to notice a few things. One of those things that I've noticed is the fact that almost every alien romance has abduciton AND/OR the hero is the alien. Very rarely is the heroine an alien, and I don't think I've ever read an alien romance where both protagonists were aliens. Due to that I got extremely excited over the fact that the heroine was an alien and the hero was human. I was hoping for an inverse of the traditional alien romance, and I stupidly thought because the heroine was an alien she'd be able to really hold her own.

Yeahhhhhh that's not what happened. Instead we had Matt (which come on what kind of anybro name is MATT) acting like an overly possessive douchcanoe and DEFENDING IT CONSTANTLY. Seriously, this dude stepped over the line multiple times in regards to the way he treated women, and everyone (Matt especially) kept trying to make me think it was fine. For example, he's constantly being protective over Inara and it pissed me off because BRO BRO SHE'S AN ALIEN, I THINK SHE CAN HOLD HER OWN. But then, again apparently Inara (and her species) only want to stay home and be housewives. Which no shade, but I was a little bummed she wasn't this alien goddess warrior who could hold her own. fuck me and my expectations i guess✨ On top of that Matt was really grossly protective of his 18 year old receptionist-assistant. There's a scene when he basically threatens Stacy's (the receptionist) boyfriend because he knows they're gonna have sex. It was just. . .weird. He tried to say that by putting the "fear of god" into Stacy's boyfriend he'd respect her more when it came to them having sex. To me that just came off as Matt thinking that other men won't respect a woman's boundaries / no, BUT THEY WILL respect her father/older brother/other man boundaries / no. It annoyed me and it grated even more that Matt (and the book) tried to convince me that HE WAS RIGHT. I'm sorry but just because you gave Stacy's boyfriend a "talking to" doesn't make him more or less capable of mistreating her.

ughhhhh

Ultimately I didn't hate THE ALIEN'S SISTER , but I was bummed that it was basically every other alien romance excepted with the roles reversed. I think there was a lot of missed potential and that always makes me sad. However, I still really like AMANDA MILO as an author and I highly recommend you guys check her out if you haven't. While this one was a bit of a miss for me I am glad that I read it. There were some funny moments, the sexy times were afoot, and overall the romance was pretty cute.

3.5 stars. Like many of Amanda Milo’s alien romances, this is cute and a bit different.

I like that we get a human guy and an alien woman. I like that he’s willing to move to her home world and he’s a really great guy.

But… I’m bothered by the way that male/female roles are shown both on earth and in the alien world. It’s so “traditional” in terms of American nostalgia re: gender roles.

It also bothers me that this book is called the aliens little sister. Like she doesn’t have her own place in the world without centering the men in her life.

It didn’t throw me from enjoying this book as he still respects her and treats her well and she is able to be independent. It’s just the expectation that “rah. I am man and must protect my female” and “women belong pregnant and at home with the babies”, etc.

But this is cute. I love that Matt is pretty much in right away and there’s no weird tension. He’s prepared to sacrifice to be with her and I like that. It’s a sweet story.

Of all the things Amanda Milo can be accused of, generic and boring are not among them. Even if I dislike something she wrote, it's still interesting and pretty unique.

I'm conflicted about how I feel on this story, because I'm not sure she wrote it intending for us to actually like the narrator, Matt. If I were to conjecture further, I suspect she wrote this to contrast how overbearing and awful "alpha" traits in alien main characters are when you assign them to human men. In human men, it's some pretty toxic masculinity.

At least...that's why I would have written this story in this way.

And the only way Matt was going to find a woman who would put up with that, was if he found a really diminished mouse of a human woman—or an alien one who is already used to male posturing.

NGL, my favorite part of this book is when And all he can think is, "yeah, I totally earned this."

Yes. Yes you did, by being a dick and acting like your gate-keeping womens' sexuality is somehow a worthwhile pursuit and respectful of them. Because nothing says "I will make others respect you and your boundaries," like trampling all over her boundaries and telling her she's wrong to be angry with you.

And how overbearing Matt is with Christian, a teenage boy with very healthy masculinity who Matt derisively describes as "submissive," and bullies him the entire book, well....

Anywho. The only way this jerk was going to have a HEA was with an alien. And now he's in a situation where every one of Inara's male relations can break him like a twig.

So this one was a bit better than okay. I would have liked it more had the female characters all pushed back on Matt more and forced some growth out of him instead of acquiescing all of the time or being happy if he was merely quiet. I would have liked to see him actually listen. Which he never actually did and that was disappointing.

There are a lot of female characters in this story, which I LOVED, and they were all supportive with no Jealous Bitches™ to be found. HALLELUJAH!

I laughed quite a bit during this—it is an Amanda Milo story, afterall—and I learned a surprising amount about cars and maintenance, which I then had a discussion with my own handy spouse about. He was pretty amused to talk about changing rear differential fluid with me, including checking to make sure Ms. Milo remembered a few important steps, which were in there in one form or another.

Quick (ish) Review

Another winner from Ms. Milo. Loosely connected to her Stolen by the Alien series but works as a standalone well enough. I just loved that, for once, the alien is the heroine the story is told from the hero’s POV, and manages to pack in the humor, heat and heart that I love. It’s still outrageous and the hero can be a bit chauvinistic but his love for the heroine and his generally grumpy yet sweet nature makes it worth it all. I liked it and I recommend for SFR fans.

He's an human alpha but I don't know how much of a baddass a human male can be when his alien girlfriend can tear up his flesh with her bare teeth or nails. I'm not much of a fan of getting into the male's POV as much I like getting to the female's. In a female POV, we see her insecurities, uncertainty and the female mindset.

Hilarious sci fi romance

The first Milo book I read was Contagion, which had me laughing so hard I almost peed. Little Sister had me in tears from laughing, which makes it very difficult to read. I thoroughly enjoyed the book being narrated from the human male point of view, and I totally fell in love with Matt. Yes, there are sex scenes. If you don't want to read them, skip them, because skipping Sister would take a little joy from your life.

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and well constructed sentences. The world building was okay, though Chicago did not come to life for me. The characterization was great, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals with strengths and weaknesses. This novel was great because the author broke some unspoken rules of sci-fi romance in this book. The alien in this romance was the heroine, with the human protagonist being the hero. The whole novel also takes place in the male character’s Point of View, which is also atypical of a sci-fi romance. I am liking the gender role flipping this author has been engaging in during her last few releases. I find it fresh and creative. The development of the romantic relationship was natural and hot, with the heat level in this novel being at four chili peppers. The plot and pacing were tight, though not very exciting. There was low angst in this novel, but the stakes were also low, which I do not typically enjoy but certainly did in this case. This novel used the Insta-Love trope, which in this case closely resembled the Fated Mates trope. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The world building was three stars. The plot and pacing were both four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were five stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of four stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy sweet sci-fi romances with plenty of laugh out loud moments. I look forward to reading the next book in this series when it releases. I will buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

What a sweet romance!
I adore Matt! He is gobsmacked when a most intriguing woman arrives at his work, in full costume. His life will never be the same.
He’s ultra protective of those under his care, has such an alphatude, but he’s really a big teddy bear who wants his ‘family’ treated right. He wants them to know they deserve respect.
Inara is a sweetheart, so innocent, but with an agenda not fully revealed. She displays some very familiar traits that have me giggling in anticipation.
The story is written with the author’s signature sense of humor that has me breaking out in laughter throughout. Do read - I’m sure that you, too, will love it!

Didn't like the first person narrative. I felt as if the H would be thinking of things that just pulled away from the flow of the story. And I would lose interest in the story at those times. The sex was pretty hot though.

For someone who DETESTS 1st POV, Amanda Milo's is easy to read and not aggravating.

I've followed this series and its likable characters for a while. Not all books are equal, but the universe is interesting and most of the characters are pretty fun. I'd be really surprised if anyone following this series doesn't absolutely LOVE the Rakhii and the Hobs. More please and thank you.

I'll admit that it took me a while to remember who Inara was, then I had to try to remember her brother's stories and now I might have to reread those (other than Zadeon's) because the Rakhii are awesome.

I liked Inara, but was hoping she was going against her species' traditional values to become a bad-ass adventuress. She's not, but I'm ok with that.

Matt is just a male Rakhii in a human meat suit. I was ok with that too. Is it sometimes over-the-top? Hell's yeah, but so are the Rakhii males in this series. So if it's acceptable for aliens, accept it for Matt, especially since it's his POV and explains that his heart is in the right place, even if he's a little overbearing.

Holy crap!

Seriously! I am no longer amazed at how easy it is to get sucked into the Miloverse! She sucks me in every freaking time and I am never sorry! It was so awesome to read/see the other side of the human/Rakhii relationship. I had actually wondered what it would be like for a human man to be dropped into the Miloverse. NOT DISAPPOINTED! Make sure you clear your schedule and save your pennies cuz your gonna wanna read this straight through, then buy the physical book!

Finally! A female alien with a human male.

This had some very funny moments, and a nice connection between the mains. Steam was hot, unabashed, and unrelenting, loved it.

It was fun to visit with a few of her brothers from other stories.

The plot here was a little heavy on the “grr! Must. Protect. Womennnn!” it got tedious after a bit. But I’m still rating this a 4 since it made me laugh so much.

Little sister is on the move!

Love me some Rakhii. So glad to get another story from Amanda this year and also Rakhii, I just love those big dragonesque aliens. This one is about the sister of some of the guys that have been main characters. She comes to Earth to find some mating fun and she finds it with grumpy alpha type Matt. It's a fun read with lots of chuckles and an HEA.

A fun book

This was a cute funny story. I kinda expected more from here brothers and maybe a tiny bit of angst. The reason I gave it three stars was because most of the action I expected happened towards the end and it was kinda anti climatic. However like I wrote earlier, it is funny and cute so I think readers in the mood for low angst will enjoy it

I enjoyed this one ten times more than I thought I would. It was great to have a protagonist able to sort their shit before disappearing forever. It must be exhausting for an author to have to figure out yet another backstory explaining why a character doesn't mind leaving everything they ever knew.

Well, this is a surprising twist on the usual! And even more wonderful is the fact it is filled with humor!
Matt is a little short-staffed at work when a blue alien shows up and accepts the job. But Matt is surprised when she propositions him for a casual fling. Although he doesn’t normally engage in “casual”, he can’t resist Inara. She does have seven huge brothers who would pulverize him if they found out, but hopefully the galaxy is big enough to keep him safe. What isn’t safe, though, is his heart! How can he convince her he wants more than a fling? Can he get her to take him home with her and let him make her his?

This was a cute story and fun read. I loved the characters and the humor. Grab your copy and enjoy a well-told story!

Completely

Totally believable! Lol. Actually I really love Matt’s character. He is so real and detailed and rounded I can imagine him with no trouble at all. Lots of really good feels with this book. And I love the reverse of all the male-centric alien stories. It was so nice to “see how the other half lives”! A really good, well-written story, well paced and well-timed. I could really live well on these kinds of stories every other day or so. Thank you!!! Please give us more!! And By the way I really love the cover art, especially the no holds barred version. That’s actually what led me to the book from the FB group!! Thank you for that too! Happy girl here.

Amanda Milo never disappoints!

This book would have been pretty fabulous on its own with a hilarious leading man, a mischievous knows-what-she-wants leading lady and a cast of lovable supporting characters. But when you add in the ties to the Stolen by an Alien universe and some of your favourite characters from previous books turn up, it just adds to the magic. I laughed so darned hard when Inara cackled her head off at the smell of roasting marshmallows. Plus Matt's internal monologue was priceless! Nice to see Earth's men getting in on the alien action too!

Here comes trouble...

Amanda Milo revisits the Rakhii world to bring us Inara, who steals big brother Zadeon's spacecraft and visits Earth. She meets Matt, an unapologetic Chicago entrepreneur with old-fashioned ideas about females, sex, and family. The sledding is a little rough, as chivalry contends with girls just wanna have fun, but in the end the two come to an agreement, a two-family meet-and-greet, and a sure-fire plan to reach HEA. Humorous and spicy as only Amanda Milo can write 'em. Grab this little goodie and your comfort beverage of choice, and enjoy a night in.

I Give this Book a 4/5 Star Rating.

I’m a huge fan of this universe, it’s a continuous go to, it’s a major book block breaker as well as a great pain reliever when I get bad headaches from not being able to focus on anything. I’m never disappointed with any book in this universe, and Inara’s book was really enjoyable! So addictive and I can’t wait for more book to come!

HEA(?): Yes!
Relationship Type: MF
Heat: 3.5-4/5
Romance: it is in the faster spectrum, but still enjoyable. 3.5-4/5
Pacing: Mid-Fast
Drama: 3/5
Suspense: 3.5/5

I must say that I adore the various Rakhii we've met. Their utter devotion to their respective mates me smile. Plus, the mental picture of these massive, brooding, fire-breathing, ex-gladiator aliens cuddling their teeny-tiny babies just makes me so happy. Yes, the entire species is happy-making and I'm more than thrilled to get to see a female Rakhii find her special someone.

Plus, Matt's introduction to the family was HILARIOUS! But that's something we can talk about later.

First, we have Matt and Inara. Frankly, he's as enraptured of her upon their first meeting as Inara's brothers were enraptured of their mates. Which is good because Inara deserves all sorts of adoring looks and hard loving in unexpected places. You know, like the kitchen counter and living room wall. While Inara definitely set out on her adventure to find someone special, she was very lucky Matt was the one she found. He adores her. He is utterly smitten by her. He would probably burn down the world if she needed him to. Which is a little weird since Inara's the one who can breathe fire and she'd probably be better at the world-burning.

So. A human and an alien. They might come from different planets, but they are just meant for one another. She's delighted with the world she's discovering and he's finding out he enjoys showing her things she's never experienced.

And the meet and greet with her family...I LOVED IT. We got to see some of my favorite couples and their babies and YESSSSSSS. I am so down for many, MANY more stories set in this world.
