Kit has two questions: When did he start being attracted to men? And why did that man have to be his stepbrother?

When Kit’s mom got married to Gareth’s dad, six years and zero interest in each other existed between them. But that all changes when Kit starts noticing what a cool guy Gareth is. A bit of hero worship sets in, but that’s the extent of his feelings toward his brother.

Or so he thinks…

Gareth never paid much attention to the little brother he inherited when his Dad got remarried. The kid was nice enough, but whatever. He had plenty of fascinating activities to capture his attention—the type of activities that a teen becoming a man hides from his family.

After a stint in the Marines and a growing career in Motocross, Gareth has set himself up nicely in Vegas. All his favorite pursuits are at his fingertips. And as much as he loves racing bikes, he loves his downtime as a respected Daddy Dom even more.

One night, Gareth is stunned when his younger brother shows up at his door unannounced. He’s even more shocked at how much Kit has grown in all the best ways possible. How will he keep his greedy hands off his hot stepbrother?

If only Kit didn’t need his help so badly, maybe Gareth would stand a chance…

Step Daddy is the fourth book in the sizzling Command & Care M/M Daddy romance series and can be read as a standalone. Each installment features a different couple and the series is connected through a common theme only. If you like bi-awakening, first time and forbidden romance, then you’ll adore Morticia Knight’s scintillating tale of new discovery.

2.5 “who wouldn’t want someone to take care of them” stars

I love some taboo in my books and I love daddy kink, so market a book being about stephbrothers indulging in daddy kink, and I will read it, end of the story.

I’m still in a massive funk when it comes to new books, but i’m damn determined to find one that works for me, sadly, it wasn’t this one. I swear one day I will read (and not re-read) a 5 stars book, hopefully, anyway.

This book was so sweet, maybe too much. I think i’m realizing that low angst books with little to nothing happening (except for a really weird suspense side plot that makes no sense) are just not for me anymore, some of them still work for me, but most of them do not (which is a shame because they used to be my favourite books).

You know the typical daddy/boy books, with the daddy that is almost perfect, the boy who has a lot of self esteem issues and thinks he’s always doing everything wrong and the insta love, as in they get together in like 3 days? I don’t really enjoy those. It’s really hard for me to find a daddy kink book I enjoy because they follow that typical formula way too often. Sadly this was the case for this book.

Brief summary
Gareth’s dad married Kit’s mom. Gareth’s left the family home when he was 18. The book happens 8 years later. Kit is now 19 and Gareth is now 26. Kit has problems with Gareth’s dad so he goes to Gareth for help. Instead of finding a solution for his dad problems, he finds a daddy.

First, I feel like i’ve read about 20 books in the last month alone where one of the main character had an evil dad, i’m getting so damn tired of that trope. Can’t we find something else to provide conflict? It’s just so overused and the evil dad is not often fleshed out enough so that we understand his motivations. It’s always just an evil dad thats evil because of reasons never mentioned in the book. It just doesn’t work for me. I like when my evil characters are well described and I know why they’re evil.

Second, also the suspense side plot in this was so not present (as in it was mentioned at 10% and it was only mentioned again at 70 %) that I totally forgot about it when it showed up again. I was so confused about what was happening before I realized it had been mentioned before.

Third, Kit has been living with Gareth’s father for the past 8 years, he’s been listening to everything he says (he’s an asshole who has been saying really mean things) and he says how the guy brainwashed him and all. He figures that out and works through it… the first time he talks to Garett in this book. I’m glad to know you can just have a 5 minutes conversation to get over trauma, it’s not like no one needs therapy right? Kit had a lot of self esteem issues from living with his abusive step father for years… you know what would have helped with that? THERAPY. Having a loving daddy that takes care of you and has a big dick and fucks you really well does not cure your trauma.

Fourth, I didn’t really enjoy the set up for the daddy/boy relationship. It felt really forced. Kit didn’t know what a daddy was and all and the day after, he was calling Gareth daddy, it just didn’t work for me.

Fifth, I can do insta love in vanilla relationships but the way it was done here just didn’t work for me. They had been together for 2 days, Kit didn’t know what a daddy was before those two days and he was already thinking about how he wanted to be Gareth’s boy. It was just way too fast for me. I feel like you need way more than two days to learn what a daddy is, then realize you want a daddy, then find a daddy.

Sixth, I don’t really enjoy the BDSM books where it’s all about procedures and how things work instead of hot sex. But I actually really enjoyed that part here. Kit was sheltered and had no clue what BDSM is and how things work. So I really appreciated how Gareth explained the lifestyle to him and how Kit kept asking questions to understand how everything works. I thought it was really sweet and worked here. Because it made sense that Kit would need to have these things explained to him and they didn’t talked about everything to death, only a couple of times, so it really worked.

Seventh, I really enjoyed Kit’s sexual exploration, that was so damn sweet. It was Kit’s first time being with a man and I loved how he looked at everything happening with wonder, it was so sweet. The sexual exploration in this book was so lovely, I was a big fan of it.

Eight, as to be expected with any daddy/boy book like this one, Kit was lost, had no clue what anything is and needed his daddy to be perfect and help him through everything. But that actually worked for me here, it made sense to me that Kit was clueless and scared because of how he grew up.

Ninth, I think my biggest problem with this book was that Kit had just left a very abusive environment 2 days before he started calling Gareth daddy and got into a relationship with him. I didn’t feel like Kit was really into Gareth. I felt like he was into Gareth because he had a lot of trauma and an history of being put down and not listened to, so having a daddy made him feel better. Which traumatized person wouldn’t want a strong and nice guy to take care of you and give you everything you want? I feel like Kit would never have dated Gareth under any other circonstences. I felt like Kit was into Gareth for what Gareth provides him and not for who Gareth is.

I really loved all of the daddy/boy scenes in this book, they were really sweet and just so perfect to me. If only I had enjoyed the rest of the book.

I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.

I just can't take this seriously at all!! I've skimmed so much after they decided to get together and essentially nothing is happening.

It's like a caricature at this point. The first 60% of the book is all 'oh gosh, but he's my step brother' and then they go to a BDSM club and somehow decide to officially become Daddy and boy after like a one sentence conversation?? I'm still confused where they made the switch.

The background plot is ridiculous too, and this might be the first time I'm saying this but I would have rather this book only focused on the smut because it would have made more sense 😂😂 Embrace the step brothers wanting to fuck each other and stop trying to make them both out to be saints 😂

Kit was TOO helpless. And he was a prude.

Started with great story and relationship setup. Ended weak due to Kit's character.

Sex was meh - Kit's inhibitions, low chemistry, mediocre scenes. Relationship was unbalanced with Garreth doing the work. Ending was rushed.

Wanted to see Kit mature enough to play at their club.

DNF 39% - 2ish stars for part of the plot
This felt stilted and the 20-year-old brother was bizarrely naive and clueless, two of my least favorite characteristics. Also seemed super helpless and the story and steam was lacking for me.

Step brothers with an abusive father who meet 8 years after the older one, Gareth, escapes home to join the military. The younger brother, Kit, suffers abuse at the hands of his step father, Ted. Kit runs off to find Gareth after an issue with the step dad. And so begins their instant attraction they fight for a couple of days before embracing a daddy/boy relationship.

For me, issues were skimmed over too quickly in this book and it just wasn't enough. I enjoyed parts of it but felt as a whole there was enough substance or details and everything happens too quickly.

This book was both sad and sweet. I felt so bad for all the crap that Kit had to endure over the years after Gareth went away to join the Marines. Kit was just this sweet bundle of innocence that I wanted to wrap in a huge hug. Gareth always had a soft spot for Kit but after seeing him as an adult...those feelings ramp up. This book was sincere, passionate, and so darn sweet. The trust and love that these two share is magical.

I liked this one a bit more then others. Why? Because it had the added taboo. That plus a good daddy boy story that wasn’t age play makes me a happy girl. I love the figuring out of ones self and that journey. I wish the end wasn’t rushed and off page. The writing was good the smexy well there actually wasn’t a lot in book smexy? And the side characters were not really there either

A great addition to the Command & Care series. Both MC's were easy to like, and easy to relate to.

The story gets going right off the jump; the first chapter tells us everything we need to know to set up the two MC's, and their family dynamic.

Flash forward 8 years, and we settle in right away with the guys, and again there are no wasted words or scenes. Gareth is 26, a Daddy Dom, and very sure of himself, almost preternaturally so, likely as a reaction to how his father was, and to guarantee he never, even accidentally, mirrors that same behaviour. Stepbrother Kit is 19, scared and unsure, but he knows going to Gareth will make him safe, even if he hasn't seen him in almost a decade.

I liked Gareth for how confident he was in himself and who he had become, but I loved Kit. Poor, sweet, virginal, questioning Kit. Not sure whether he was gay or bi, but increasingly sure he wasn't completely straight. So vanilla that being French Vanilla might be too spicy. Poor soul was sure BDSM was all about Masters and slaves, and whips and chains and pain. But instinctually receptive to being praised and called a good boy, even if he had never heard of the Daddy/boy dynamic.

Not gonna lie, when Kit insisted on going to the dungeon, I shook my head and said it was a bad idea; Kit was way too new to the scene for that to be anything but overwhelming, but Daddy knew that sometimes people have to learn things firsthand. I personally was prepared to yeet the book right out the metaphorical window if that figging scene had been any more detailed, or if the scene with the two twinks and their Dom had been more focused on. Luckily for me and my own limits, Knight seemed to know that, and we moved on just before I would have.

Watching Kit learn who Gareth was now and what Kit himself was drawn to was a lovely treat of discovery. The plot device that brought Kit to Gareth after so many years didn't overwhelm the story (though it easily could have), nor did it seem unnecessary. I could have done with a wee bit more interaction between Kit and his asshole stepfather though, to show why Kit was so afraid of him. It was like eating a lunchmeat sandwich with only two slices of lunchmeat - it'll do, but a sandwich with four or five slices is so much more filling.

A logical HEA and resolution to the conflict (and great opportunity for Gareth to go all Protective Daddy) made for a satisfying way to end the story.

Kit and Gareth weren't what I was expecting at all, and I have mixed feelings about their journey. The idea of two step brothers reuniting after years apart and discovering their mutual attraction sounded like it would be right up my alley, as did the Daddy/boy dynamic in this story. I did thoroughly enjoy those elements, but something about Kit's nervous helplessness bothered me. On the one hand, I completely understand how Kit's upbringing shaped him into that kind of man, but I was also expecting to see more self-growth after he escaped from that toxic environment. So much of this story was about introducing Kit to kink and exploring the soft, caring side of a Daddy/boy relationship that I missed out on seeing Kit grow into himself. Sure, there's the underlying expectation that Kit embracing his inner "boy" will make him more comfortable in his own skin, but the way he handled that confrontation with his dad showed me that he still has a long way to go. That didn't take away from all the beautiful moments he and Gareth shared, but I wish I'd gotten to see Kit stand strong on his own instead of falling back on old habits. That aside, I really did enjoy the relationship Gareth and Kit formed. Their chemistry was incredible, but it was the sweeter, caring aspects of their romance that really made me fall in love with them.

This is a great addition to the Command and Care series. I was looking forward to this book, and I wasn't disappointed. The premise is a delicious combination of the "step-brothers" trope and Daddy kink. The main characters are Kit, the younger step-brother, and Gareth, the older one who leaves the family. The two are reunited years later when Kit runs to Gareth for help. What I particularly liked about this book was how it did not get bogged down in places where the author could have easily been distracted. Instead, the very beginning of the book plunges us into the action. The premise occurs immediately. From then on, the book is very much focused on Kit and Gareth, and the development of their relationship. What motivates Kit to go to Gareth for help is a situation with his stepfather breaking the law, and I was worried that the focus of the novel would turn to that. Thankfully, that didn't happen. Even though it certainly bolstered the plot and kept it interesting, it definitely stayed in the background of the story. Instead, we got to see Kit and Gareth fall in love despite their previous roles as "brothers" (they are not biologically related). The Daddy kink is really great, with Gareth as the Daddy and Kit as his boy. Kit really embraces the role of boy once he realizes that's what he wants, and it is beautiful to see. Overall, this may be my favorite book in the series. It promises Daddy kink and the step-brother trope, and it delivers.

I’ve been in the mood for… unconventional… romances recently, and I found that reading “Step-Daddy” scratched that itch. The level of unconventionality in this book is equivalent to that of Josh and Cher in the movie Clueless.

Kit and Gareth didn’t have an easy childhood. Gareth did what he could to protect Kit from their bully as much as he could, at least until he had to get away. Gareth’s life isn’t perfect, but the military and his career in motocross have given him stability and friends. Kit was surviving until he realized his step-dad was planning to frame him for embezzling. He didn’t know where to turn for help. He didn’t think anyone would believe he was innocent. In desperation, he finds the person who’d helped him when they were young. As teens, they’d been friends. When they see each other as adults, though, something new and intense sparks between them.

“Step-Daddy” is scorching hot and emotionally gripping. Kit and Gareth have a lot of history that complicates their desire for each other and the relationship they want to have together isn’t one many people understand. And it works so freaking well. Kit’s nerves and desires add tenderness and thrill, and Gareth’s longing and hunger add sweetness and fire to the story. The book combines romance, fiery heat, and power exchange dynamics like nobody’s business. It’ll suck you in and heat you up. It’s satisfying to read in all the ways I’d hoped. I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys a little naughtiness in their romance and a lot of heat.

This was such a fun book which I found when I searched "step" on booksite, I was feeling naughty lol. Then this book's cover grabbed my attention! Daddy Gareth & his boy Kit, stepbrothers meeting after 8 years. Gareth's out of Marines & now a motor crosser, Kit came to him in LA due his asshole step dad (G's dad).

The attraction b/w them flared bright from start, but romance didn't start until the visit at BDSM club changed everything. Kit who'd been a virgin, totally vanilla & questioning his sexuality...his eyes were fully opened. How can a book be slow paced yet fast? This was! I wanted more of their relationship, loved it. Also glad the step dad got what he deserved!

I kinda skipped the prologue tho, but was in after that!

This was very cute - I like how these two MCs come together, just felt like a natural progression for them and their daddy/boy relationship was full of sweetness 💖 I would have loved to see a punishment scene in there and see more rules being set but honestly I'm not upset that didn't happen since we only see the very early stages of their relationship and I'm glad they didn't rush things - little cinnamon rolls 🥰 it's only a 4 star for me bc PERSONALLY this was kind of a palette cleanser and the story plot-wise didn't blow me away or anything but still very enjoyable and really enjoyed their daddy dynamic - enjoy friends!

I found this moment/ quote so endearing - rip that sandwich lol:

“I think I’ll enjoy feeding you while we’re naked in bed even more than out here.” Kit held in a moan. The way things were going, they were never going to finish that sandwich.

Kit's mum married Gareth's dad. The kids were kind of close in the beginning but then Gareth joined the military when he turned 18 and 12 yr old Kit was left behind and there has been hardly any contact since.

Six years later Kit tracks Gareth down, needing his help.. I loved the reconnecting of the step brothers. The almost taboo relationship builds sweetly. It was endearing the way Gareth treats Kit, his innocence not a deterrent to the caring Daddy.

The issue that brought them together again is stressful and frightening for Kit. His Daddy is a great support, showing his strength and affection to support his boy.

I really enjoyed this step brother Daddy/Boy romance. It was sweet and affectionate with a little drama. These guys were hot together and I look forward to more of this series.

Because of the title I almost skipped right past this one because I assumed it was some taboo stepfather situation #hardpass but thankfully I took a second to read the synopsis 😂 This is a step brother (not blood related ) romance with the daddy/boy kink.
.
I really liked both Gareth and Kit. There's some decent sexual tension between them because they each  thought there feelings were wrong.   I like that they got to know each other again before jumping into the sexual urges they were having. This is a slow burn and even when they become physically intimate it's not a main focus. The focus is on the Daddy/boy dynamic in terms of nurturing and caring and the emotional connection.

Step Daddy
By Morticia Knight

It wasn’t what I thought it would be. It was very slow moving. Also a slow burn. They had very little chemistry.

The issues with Ted were actually a very small part of the story and weren't resolved until the near end and it was incomplete. Too many unanswered questions. Too many unfinished plot lines that were touched on in the story.

I truly thought going in this would be a fantastic story. But it was just lacking in a lot of important areas.

Taking the journey from stepbrothers to lovers.

Kit had his own live-in protector, before Gareth decided to leave. Escaping his father abuse was the only safe option at the time. Unfortunately leaving Kit behind.
After some time separated from one another, Kit sought out Gareth for help. Once the two laid eyes on each other, the attraction was instant and undeniable. Ignoring their feelings would not make the desires disappear.

A nice - and forbidden- story of a patient and protective Dom who shows love and patience for his boy. Each bringing out the better qualities in the other.

Alright I wanted to like this. I really did. Hello stepbrothers!

I didn't care much for the circumstances that brought Kit to Gareth's doorstep after 8 years of separation. I get it, he's 19 and obviously lived in a very abusive/neglectful/sheltered environment. I definitely felt like the situation was a bit overplayed. Like a whole sting operation? For a local property management business?

I don't have issues with Daddy kink or I wouldn't have picked up the book to begin with although I have my hard limits with it and this book toed that line and started to stumble over it and almost had me tossing it in my dnf pile at 88% and that's impressive because I'll push through anything if I managed to make it that far.

Sadly I was disappointed.

I went into this book with certain expectations. It turns out I was wrong. Let's start with the name. It's a play on words. Very cute. The picture on the front is also somewhat misleading. Yes, it's a gay love story but I'm not sure the cover really expresses the story beyond that fact. So here's how this broke down for me...

Kit and Gareth are step-brothers (see how the name is starting to take shape?). For a very brief period of time, they lived in the same house. Once Gareth turned 18 he left and never returned. Kit was only 12 when that happened. Flash forward 8 years. Gareth has left the Marines and is very successful as a motocross racer. Kit is still living at home with his mother and stepfather. When Kit shows up at Gareth's door scared out of his mind, the men realize they are attracted to each other. Eventually, they act on their growing feelings. Then they have to overcome the fact that Gareth lives his life as a daddy (see how that is the rest of the name of the book? very clever) and Kit knows nothing about the BDSM community or lifestyle.

If you are looking for lots of sex, this book isn't for you. There are a lot of descriptions of the men getting turned on so that might suffice if that's what you like. If you are looking for lots of graphic BDSM scenes, this book isn't for you. Yes, both of those are part of the story but it is a very small part and it is only included to help move the relationship along. This book is very much a story about the two men and them realizing that they have to stop thinking of each other as stepbrothers and start thinking of each other as lovers.

I thought the writing was very good. It was very smooth and easy to read. The characters were developed well without tons of detailed backstory. The bad guy is only in a tiny bit of the book but he was present throughout the building of the men's relationship. I never like insta-love stories but this worked for me because Gareth is already a fully formed man and Kit has no world experience so they balance each other out nicely. Admission! I wasn't totally comfortable with the daddy and boy relationship stuff in some scenes. I figure to each his own but I don't get the why of it. What I did like is that the men discussed it at each step and were open and honest with each other. I think that's a very positive message. Overall, I liked the book and I would recommend it. Just know what you are getting into before you start. Or maybe not since it surprised me and shattered my expectations.
