This is such a wonderful way to introduce your children to classical music! With delightful and colorful illustrations on each page and clear recorded snippets from the piece, your children will enjoy this sensory reading experience!
Hit the magical note on each page to get the music going. Included in the back is the various titles of the movements, descriptions, and a little history/interesting facts.

Very pretty book with buttons to play samples of The Nutcracker while reading the story and looking at beautiful illustrations. Many kids will love this book. I’ve used this in the classroom with small groups. It’s grown on me and kids love it.
Beautiful story and illustration. the only problem is the way the four violinist are drawn on the 11th and 12th pages of the book, all the violinist are holding their left hand under the violin!! the fist one is also holding the middle of the bow with her right hand !! even my 4 years old noticed this mistake. I did not expect a book that has the title of "orchestra" and is trying to introduce such a great composer like Tchaikovsky, have a big illustration mistake. I hope they correct it.
other than that, the whole book is lovely and is a great simple way to get introduce kids to the world of classic music.
This beautiful book is a fantastic gift for anyone who loves The Nutcracker. Just by touching the cover you can tell that this is a high quality book. Inside you will find a nice retelling of the nutcracker story. It is just detailed enough-not overly simplistic but not too lengthy, since the music is the main focus here. The illustrations are beautiful and attractive. Each page features a ten second clip of the music for that scene. I do wish the clip could be a little longer in some places, but I understand the limitations of a book like this probably make that difficult. Rather than plastic buttons like in most sound books, the reader simply presses to a specific spot on the page and the sound magically plays (the spots being pressed on correspond to the buttons under the final page, but the actual buttons are never visible to the reader. Some of the first pages were a little hard to press for my four year old, but overall I think this style decision is nice. Batteries can be replaced from the back cover.
We adore this series of books and joyfully added the Nutcracker to our collection (and gifted a few too). This is a nice picture book style abridged version of the story, with great illustrations, and includes sound snippets worked in along the way. The last page spread has a bit about the the composer and little tidbits about the songs featured. Overall great for kids as an introduction to classical composers and also a great read to share. We enjoyed a read through and then flipped back and forth between favorite parts. Definitely recommend!
A fun introduction to the classic ballet story. I love The Story Orchestra: The Four Season, so I have been waiting to borrow this from the library for Christmastime. Elliot enjoys pressing each of the page's buttons to play the short clip that corresponds to that part of the story. The bright illustrations help tell the creative, somewhat zany story of a little girl named Clara who enters the magical Land of Sweets.
This books is a wonderfully illustrated retelling of the Nutcracker ballet. I will admit we shied away from reading it at first because we are very anti-toys-that-make-noise in our house. However, rather than the typical midi-sounds you expect from a book like this, it has actual orchestral snippets woven throughout the story. It is one of my 3 year old’s favorite books! It will have a place on our shelf long outside the holiday season.
I had to pick up this beautiful edition of The Nutcracker as soon as I saw it! I love the story and this is the perfect introduction to music from the ballet.. I will be buying a few more for gifts! 4.5 stars only because the sound buttons need to be pressed really firmly ( tricky for little ones) and the clips could have been a little longer.
I wanted to teach my kids about The Nutcracker abs this really helped a lot. We watched the ballet but having the story written out like this made it a lot easier.
The illustrations are gorgeous and there are buttons to press to hear snippets of the music. Some books like this have really annoying sounds but these are very lovely.
My son is far too young for this really but he enjoyed the pictures and music. I can’t wait for him to grow with these books. The quality of the music is great as well as the info about it at the back.
So nice to have a children’s music book that is different! Even as parents we really enjoyed it.
I can't tell if the Nutcracker turning into a Prince was just a dream Clara had or she really did have that adventure lol Either way, its a classic and fabulous story of wonder and music. This version allows us to listen to some of the music along with the story and it just brings more to it 👍👍
Can't recommend the Story Orchestra series highly enough. We have a tradition of gifting one of these books to the girls each Christmas and they love them all and ask for them on a regular basis for bedtime stories. They are all great introductions to classical music and famous composers!
