I was looking forward to reading through this book as a fan of the Food Network, especially the Kids Baking Championship shows. The photography in this book made every dessert look so appetizing and delicious, even if I wasn't interested in the flavors. I'm a very picky eater, so at least half of these recipes I probably wouldn't make. I'm not a huge chocolate fan - cue gasps I've been getting my whole life - so I was more interested in any of the vanilla or interesting flavored desserts. I'm also not a fan of sour cream and am hesitant to add them to desserts, even if they are supposed to help make them creamier or whatever. I'm glad I read this and will have to borrow the book again when I'm ready to bake some of these interesting recipes!
This is a very kid-friendly book and my daughter loved it (she's 10). There is some fun content here that we'll probably never use, like the fake-out cakes and games at the end. But she really enjoyed the recipes; there are lots of options/subs to make recipes your own and there are photographs for every recipe. I loved the way the book lies flat on the counter or can be propped up easily. I thought some of the recipes (muffins, mainly) were too sweet. The highlights for us were the bars and cakes.
Worth checking out if you have a budding baker on your hands. Also, the recipes are very clearly written and easy to follow. . . so if you're a new baker or a baking-challenged adult, these are great.
