A novel about a haunted place. And a haunted man. After Jake Boyd’s career as a mountain guide in Telluride leaves him physically and emotionally injured, he returns home to the Kansas prairie to take a job as a teacher and let himself heal.Little does he know, Shelley High School is as haunted as he is, and the presence in the second floor storage room has a dangerous and sadistic origin….
Mitch Sebourn is currently working his way through law school while (not so) secretly focussing most of his attention on trying to write The Great American Classic. He has published three novels and a collection of poetry in paperback, as well as a new novel, Watershed, available as a Kindle eBook.
He enjoys reading, writing, hiking, and is looking forward to being married next July.
When he is not sitting atop Tikaboo Peak spying on the inhabitants of Area 51, or scaling the slopes of Colorado's 14ers, he can typically be found calling the Hogs in central Arkansas.
I find Mr. Sebourn's work to be different in the normal genera of horror. His characters are likeable and as he has stated enjoyable to spend time with. I have this sense of not wanting my time with them to end. Good plot with a suspenseful storyteller makes for a good Sunday read I give this a solid 4.5
If you're looking for a good read about ghosts and the paranormal (sans vampires, zombies, aliens, monsters, etc.) this is it. Liked the school setting and characters, plot was good, solid. The main character and his gal would be great in a series involving paranormal mysteries.
Hey Mitch, I really enjoyed reading your book. I hate reading a good book because I can't put it down,so dishes aren't done ,bed isn't made etc, lol. But Yes it was a good story and you are a really good writer. Vee'
Don’t let the dates fool you. I got in a bad headspace and stopped reading altogether. Wanting to know what happens in Lamentation helped get me back in the habit.
Solid cast of characters. Real nice build. Good creep factor. Doesn’t fall victim to excessive exposition like so many of its ilk.
'Lamentation' is the perfect title for this book i.e the passionate expression of grief or sorrow. Author Mitch Sebourn presents us with all the elements for a great ghost yarn. This is the story of Jake Boyd who, after an accident, returns home to Kansas to start a teaching job. But there is more to his school than grumpy teenagers! I sometimes get bored with horror stories but this one held my attention. Aside from a few minor issues with changes in tense, there is great potential here. The writer clearly has skill, but I would just haved liked a bit more showing, rather than telling, particularly in regards to building character. That been said, I will definitely look for more of this author's work.
