Startled to discover that Buck's seemingly accidental death was actually murder, Claire Watkins suspects that Buck's lover, Stephanie Klaus, might be responsible until she finds Stephanie brutally beaten and wandering down the highway. Reprint.
I like this book, this whole Watkins series, for many reasons, but especially because the characters aren't perfect and 'superhero'-like. It is believable, possible, and relevant, while still being a story that I could think about and enjoy trying to figure out "who-dun-it" at the end of a long day without overloading my poor, tired brain.
The author's writing is getting better as the books progress. I didn't guess the twist in this one, so that was great. I am finally caught up with the first few books (have already listened to books 4 and 5) so I can move onward from here on out.
This was a quick read. The story was well-written, and had a familiar setting (Lake Pepin area of Wisconsin,) which is something I enjoy once in awhile. The main female character is a police investigator, and I would definitely read more in this series.
This one held my attention and made me skip dinner! Fairly straight forward (until the twist at the end :) ) I enjoyed her main character - Claire Watkins - very much. She seemed "human" and not the makings of someone's imagination. I was saddened about Sven though. Snooper was a joy!
