One’s out of his element. The other’s out of allies. Both are out of time.
Colonel Jack Morley investigates anomalies for the US government. He’s less than thrilled to give up his long holiday weekend at the beach to travel to the middle of the Nevada desert for his fifty-first mission because he assumes it will be another wasted trip.
He couldn’t be more wrong.
CORE Director Victor Cannon is in charge of a secret facility in Nevada, and he hopes bringing in Morley will keep the government off his back long enough to accomplish both his agency’s mission and his personal goal.
It only makes the target on his back a brighter beacon.
Now Morley and Cannon are in a race against their own agencies and the clock if they hope to save the world. They’ve discovered the location of the Forgotten, but not everyone wants him found. And those who want him to stay lost in time will go to any lengths to make sure he stays that way.
D.L. Cross has loved science fiction ever since she was a young girl and fell for Major Don West on television's Lost in Space. To this day, she still quotes the show, though her favorite lines were spoken by the robot and the antagonist.
Parallel universes or alternate realities, aliens or dinosaurs, superpowers or super viruses, time travel or AI... no sci-fi theme is off limits and all of them fascinate her.
D.L. Cross also writes other genre fiction under the name Staci Troilo, and you can find more information about all her identities and all her work at her website: https://stacitroilo.com.
A trip to the desert in search of anomalies for the US government, becomes a quest to save the world for Colonel Jack Morley. A secret facility reveals the presence of an alien, who has traveled back in time with a group of reclaimants, thanks to the facility’s director, Victor Cannon.
CORE Director, Victor Cannon needs to learn why the alien Titan brought a group of people to an area in Georgia and how he controls their minds. If he has to ‘persuade’ the Titan to talk, so be it.
It didn’t matter whose purpose was just or even whose results would help the most people. The only thing that ever counted was who wielded the most power. The Forgotten- D. L. Cross
There were two tenuous alliances that I absolutely loved. One was between Jack and an alien from Venus.
Jack headed toward the door.
Val cut him off. “This is why I wouldn’t tell you anything before I got you here. I knew you wouldn’t come with me.”
“Of course, I wouldn’t. You’re insane.”
“I assure you, I’m not.”
“You think you’re an alien. From Venus. No, I’m sorry. From inside Venus.” “Is that really the strangest thing you’ve heard or seen in the last twenty-four hours?” Cross, D.L.. The Forgotten (An Alien Invasion Science Fiction Series) (Astral Conspiracy) (p. 96). Sterling & Stone. Kindle Edition.
And the other fun relationship arose between Cannon and the Titan (Tiny).
“Well, Tiny? Now can we talk?”
Blink. Blink.
“Damn it all to hell. Now what?”
Ha. Just wanted to see what you’d do. Cross, D.L.. The Forgotten (An Alien Invasion Science Fiction Series) (Astral Conspiracy) (p. 132). Sterling & Stone. Kindle Edition.
This is a fast-paced page-turner with engaging characters and an imaginative plot. Well worth the read!
I loved D.L. Cross's Astral Conspiracy series--all six books--so I wanted to read this story that tied in to it. The writing is topnotch. I have to admit, I felt as confused as Jack Morley at times, trying to figure out if he should stop Cannon or help him. I still wasn't sure if he did the right thing at the end of the book. And I wondered why he'd tell Harrington about the dagger/weapon and give it to him when that seemed to be the crux of how he might change the future. Or maybe not. The people I did fall in love with were Blake--a lady's man who could take down a reptar; the reptar himself--Tiny; and Val--a man from Venus who was doing his best to help mankind. The action was fast, the straits dire, and the future of mankind hung in the balance. The story kept me turning pages..
Having read and loved all the Astral Conspiracy books, I was excited to see a companion story. I know this can be read as a stand-alone and is a great introduction to the series, but I enjoyed this prequel even more knowing who the Reptars, Separated, and Titans were. This fast-paced, well-written story has two main characters that I couldn’t help rooting for them. Jack Morley wants to be on the beach relaxing but is thrust into the world of CORE Director Victor Cannon. They have different agendas and experiences, while the plot is centered on an underground bunker in Nevada and what it held. There were a few surprises and twists that made this a page-turner. I recommend this and the entire Astral Conspiracy Series.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Astral Conspiracy series, The Forgotten is a great introduction. If you’re already a fan of Astral, this story is a treat—icing on the cake, so to speak. As with the series itself, the action is fast paced, an adrenaline rush of danger and intrigue. Cross delivers excellent characters in Colonel Jack Morley and CORE director Victor Cannon.
A clever prequel, The Forgotten delivers all the elements that makes Astral so mind-blowing—Titans, Reptars, Reclaimants and Separated to name a few. Whether you’re new to the series or not, there are several surprises in store. Of special note, I have to mention the plot thread involving Cannon and Tiny. It kept me glued to the pages! The Forgotten is another great entry in a spectacular series, but it reads as either introduction or standalone. I positively loved the ending!
I’m a big fan of the Astral Conspiracy series, so when I learned there was a prequel, I hurried to get a copy.
Like the rest of the books, the action in The Forgotten is fast-paced and the storyline keeps you turning the pages. If you’ve read the series, you’ll see familiar terms like The Separated, Titans, and Reptars. You’ll meet new characters, CORE Director Victor Cannon and Colonel Jack Morely.
There are a few surprise twists all leading to a satisfying ending. Or, I should say, the beginning. I highly recommend the entire series.
