Electric vehicles (EV’s) are coming. It’s not a matter of “if” but “when.” Why am I so certain? Simply because these vehicles will be less expensive than hydrocarbon fueled autos to purchase, operate and maintain.
The success of electrics will be the result of a superior technology overtaking one feeding into obsolescence.
This book looks at the history of the electric car, how they are but one of a number of disruptive technologies overtaking us.
You will read what types of EV’s are coming, how to evaluate which one would be best in order to meet your needs, how to charge and EV during a road trip and much more.
Admittedly a little biased, as the author is a family friend, but I found this book to be quite interesting. It is definitely mostly a guide on how to buy an electric car for those who are interested, so it would obviously be more useful to such individuals.
My one critique is that - despite being filled with nuggets of wisdom - I think some of the extrapolated arguments such as "coal is dead" are a bit myopic and only reflect an interpretation of western society. I recently read that China opens 3 new coal plants every month. Coal might be dying, but it's certainly not dead. Moreover, if you've lived in a relatively poor country, you know that many places lack the infrastructure (i.e. established physical addresses, road quality, fuel stations, etc.) for some of the predictions in this book to ring true. Electric cars are surely disrupting the market, but I doubt that they will make internal combustion engines globally 'extinct by 2030,' as the Rich confidently purports.
