They’d flown out of Freedom, Indiana, Doc Bell at the controls of the state helicopter because the governor’s pilot, Richard Cool, was unconscious and bleeding out. As it happened, they didn’t need to stay and fight any longer, the state’s National Guard called in to clean up the last of the gun runners. But with everything happening so fast and furious, what they didn’t know at the time was The National Guard didn’t get everyone. Someone had escaped without the Guard’s knowledge, and now he has a plan to recover his losses—not from Freedom—but somewhere else entirely… Patty Doyle, the executive director of the Native American Cultural Center notices that some of the Native Americans she has under her care are leaving without any sort of notice, or reason. When she asks for help from the sheriff, it sets off a chain of events that takes Virgil and the MCU from one end of the state to the other, and when Virgil figures out what’s going on, the people he’s hunting don’t plan to let anything...or anyone stop them. A definite must read book & series!

I love mysteries, thrillers, as well as scary stories, and this is one of the very best series that I have read. It's a perfect combination of fantastic characters, lots of humor, intrigue, drama, intense situations, suspense, and unexpected twists and turns that you won't be able to put it down until the very end. The characters are down to earth and very relatable, each story is unique, and overall it's just a fantastic series.
I read a lot of books (at least 5-7 a week), and Mr. Scott is one of the best authors that I have read. I'm very grateful for him allowing his books to be a part of the KU program. I really hope to see many more of his books in the future.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.

In some ways, this was the best so far, and that's saying a lot.

One of the regular characters, although a second-tier character, is lost. But that's to be expected from time to time in any long-running series. A lot of good things happen as well. Virgil and Murton and a couple others get to learn more about themselves, including a few not so pleasant tidbits.

One thing kept this from a fifth star, at least in my opinion. Ross and Rosencrantz and DEA Agent Martin have collared a high-level meth wholesaler. Although they have nothing on which to build a case, and they all, including the suspect, know it, they convince the guy to sign off on an immunity deal in return for flipping on his suppliers, a major manufacturing ring. So far, so good, right? Yeah, except they pull off one of the single most underhanded double dealing tricks ever to void the deal and put the guy away anyway. And, their in-house hacker, Becky, hacks the guy's email account and deletes the docs and video records of the original deal, so that he had absolutely no recourse. Mr. Anderson has written eleven novels, making this bunch of cops, although flawed, seem to be such good guys. And then blows it up. Disappointing.

But, my wife loves it. So, since the next novel in the series won't be out for a couple of months, I guess I'll have to start over with the first book and keep reading to her.

Life is...

...not always the way you think it should be. Meth, the illegal drug, was everywhere, and those making it needed to be found. Virgil Jones and his brother, were trying to determine who was making it and where it was being made. It was simply difficult to find and hopefully, rid the area of it. The hunt was on, and eventually a barn blew up, and everyone thought that would be the end of it. Well, except for the lives it ruined, and the lives it took.

This is a story of the lives of men and women of the law, who risk their lives so others can live their own. And sometimes even though the law is just, those that uphold the law do not always find it just.

If you don't read any of the other of Thomas Scott's books you really need to read this one !

It's a testament to a skilled author to make you a prisoner of emotions to their writings. I was immersed in a
sense of "a job well done" I was allowing myself to be happy and relieved.... until I saw Henderson come into the bar.
Then I was on a roller coaster of feelings that I had missed a turn on a gravel road ! The fact that I went from smiles to tears within a few pages shows what Thomas Scott can do with my emotions !
I recommend this book to ALL !!!

Amazing! Definitely start this series at the first book, you will love it!

I've grown so fond of these characters, it's like I know them personally. The dialogue, the action, the relationships...loving it all! Fast paced, dramatic and thought provoking. Our actions speak louder than words, and our words have a lasting effect, always and forever. Fans of John Sandford, here is your new addiction!

Excellent characters in the series books 1 thru 11.

Books have twists and turns that aren't expected. Writing keeps you interested and wanting to read just a little more even though you should stop because its a work night. Characters developed and the series progresses. Great reads. Enjoy. Good way to get lost for a while. Enjoy. Looking forward to book 12.

This series….

This series is as good or better than Sandford’s Prey books. Virgil Jones and Lucas Davenport…characters you’ll come to love. I’m up to number 11 and can’t stop now! I haven’t reviewed them all but why…other than to say this series is great and worth your time and money!

Just When You Think You Have It Worked Out....

This is the 11th book in the series, and followed a well written format as they all do, but the ending really caught me off guard.
Good job Mr. Scott. I am going on to book 12 TODAY!

Thrilling

"Every story tells another tale". Sometimes I just wonder where the author's get their inspiration from. From a good detective story, Thomas turns the whole thing on it's head in the final few paragraphs. Just brilliant, I can say no more!!!!

Serious current crisis

Not much personal interaction among the main family members, the ghostly appearances by Mason getting redundant not important to story

Continuing to weave the characters in and out of existence and relevance in each and every story throughout the series.
