Plus, how do I hide the fact that I’m now Deputy to the hot dragon shifter Sheriff of Oxford, Earl Sin, who lives next door…? Oh, and his family are also visiting for the weekend.

Today was my first day back at the office. It's been 17 months since I've been there and for someone who has issues with changes that's an awfully long time. I therefore needed a nice, engaging, addictive and light book to keep me company on the way to and from work. And since I was one of the lucky people getting an arc for the third Satan book, I knew that he was gonna be my company for today. I mean, can you think of better company?
And Satan doesn't disappoint at all. I have to admit that I missed the politics a little. It was still there, but it was kinda faint and not really prominent this time. I also missed a certain thrill in the case, maybe because all the action happened far away and out of sight. However, there were more than enough elements in this book making up for it. The main reason being Satan, of course. Who doesn't love a stubborn cat who is amazingly good with magic and wants world domination?
In a lot of ways this book was about family. The family that Sin and Astra will have one day, although they might have to think about keeping an eye on Satan who is already plotting to turn their shifter babies into his personal army. Astra's biological family, with her grandma tangled in the current mystery and her father being the future mystery. Sin's biological family, they might not always put his interests first but they love him still. And the families we make ourselves.
Throughout the story the bonds between all the different characters are strengthened in a lot of different ways. I loved Astra's grandma, especially because we learned so many things about her and are now forced to look at her in a slightly different way. I most of all loved how Astra and Sin slowly took the next step in their relationship. Maybe they don't have the most passionate or burning relationship, but what they have is very clearly and very beautifully real.
Wow what an amazing cozy mystery. I absolutely adored Satan and the very descriptive strong personality familiars. I love that they are all so unique. I loved the personal mysteries that needed to be solved!! Plus absolutely adored the extra bit of yumminess in this cozy!! Rosemary is a cozy master and I absolutely adore all she does!! ❤
I love this series so much! This time, along with hijinks, hilarity, and shenanigans we have several dynasties worth of family dramas, some internecine strife, and the potential to collapse the universe in on itself. Just another day in the life for Astra, Satan, and Sin. With multiple clocks ticking down to doomsday, can our intrepid investigators find solutions to all the problems plaguing them before it’s too late? I laughed so hard through almost this whole book. The innuendo game in here is so top notch it’s beyond double entendre and somewhere into triple or quadruple levels. We learn a lot of different family secrets, and about more than just Astra and Sin. And more than anything else, I adore getting the chance to see their world through the eyes of a feline evil genius. Hail Satan! I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
We’re at the third book in this series, and I swear Satan gets cuter each book. In this latest, poor Astra finds herself having to deal with all kinds of family issues, hers and Sin’s. This book was fun and silly, just like the previous two. I love the idea of a place to adopt animal familiars that were abandoned for one reason or another. Add to that the fun of the other characters, and you have a great way to spend an afternoon. The mystery is almost secondary to the characters, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. A nice addition to the series! Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I love these cozy mysteries! I also love visiting the quaint magical village of Witch Hollow in Oxford where we find Astra and her demon kitten familiar Satan! There’s snark and sass, there’s humour and sparks that are flying and we get to meet Grandma! There’s magic and mystery and a race against time so snuggle on down, grab a coffee and simply enjoy stepping into this magical world for a while with some old and new friends.
This is another fab read about Satan...I mean Astra ;P He sure does steal the show with his sass and attitude. Thankfully, the other characters are also fab so prepare to be glued to your reader. This story gives us more mystery, lots of family and further building of the relationship between Astra and Sin. So much to enjoy in this story that it makes me impatient for the next. Good fun!
Oh I loved this book. It was soo much fun to read. Satan cracks me up and I love the relationship between Sin and Astra. Definitely a series I want to read more of.

Rosemary John's you such a creative writer this series is the best so many laugh out loud moments, mystery, suspense, intrigue, arson, drama, secrets, twists make one addicting read. Astra grama is fierce she visiting same time Sin's family is she wants her take over the family business but she doesn't know she Deputy to Sheriff to her hot Dragon Shifter Sheriff of Oxford, Earl Sin her neighbor. Astras grama is struck down with a HEX they need to hurry to save her, plus Kushiel trys to break Sin by accusing him of the arson attacks & collaring him so much happens secrets get revealed, we learn more about Astra & Sin, also Satan's up to usual mysterious mischeif got love him. I definitely recommend to get this excellently written book so well worth the read you can't get enough of our devious black cat Satan on the case to solve the crimes such an adventure you don't want miss. LOVE LOVE SATAN CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF HIM!!!!
Another excellent installment in the magical kitten familiar series. All hail satan the snarkiest, cutest and most devious kitten familiar around. He steals the show again as he’s done in the previous two books.
We’ve got another mystery on our hands in Witch Hollow and our intrepid deputy witch and dragon sheriff have their work cut out for them since he’s the prime suspect. There’s a lot of chemistry between them and you’re always waiting for it to bubble over.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and series. I hope more come along that give us a culmination of all the chemistry between our hero and heroine as well as more shenanigans from satan. Definitely recommend.
"Kushiel thought that he could break Sin by blaming him for these arson attacks and collaring him. I needed to save Sin by solving the crime. The Cat Detective was on the case." - The Great Satan
Sin's in the hot seat, and Astra and Satan are determined to ensure Sin is cleared; but who's behind all the arson attempts and why?
"So, are you ready to discover how the Cat Detective solved the case of the Riddle Hexes and saved the day?" - The Great Satan, familiar extraordinaire
Great Hecate, what a hoot! Mischief and mayhem, dark magic and redemption, this is a cozy mystery that gives you ALL the warm feels!
All hail Satan! I love this universe of books from Rosemary. This is another great and funny installment with crazy but lovable familiars, Sin on the hook for the arsons, and Astra finds herself having to deal with all kinds of family drama and needing to clear Sin before he's collared. Definitely recommend!
I love this series. When I am reading these books they take me away to a whole new world, one in which I can escape my everyday reality and just relax. It moves along at a really nice speed making for an easy read. The characters are amazing and you will fall in love with them. This story is amazing and needs to be read, there is no doubt that it needs to be on your TBR list. You will not be sorry.
In book three, Sin, Astra, and Satan find themselves trying to solve two dilemmas. The first is weird fires attacking several businesses in town and why Astra’s gran is shrinking~ Something is definitely wonky and they MUST figure it out within 24 hours or Sin will be tethered and blamed. So many new secrets will be uncovered that will have Astra spinning~ New people are introduced that will hopefully not be around too long! Hopefully, Sin and Astra will finally take their relationship to the next level, albeit Satan’s snarky comments~ Come along on another fun-filled journey of laughter, mystery, and snark with Astra, Satan, Sin, and all the other familiars and Sin’s entourage~
Another awesome book in this series. What’s not to love about Astra Sin and Satan. Their stories are dramatic funny and at times heartbreaking. However they flow perfectly from one to another. The series continuation is brilliant. You can always see what the future may bring.
Satan is definitely the star, with his snarky, protective, world domination attitude. However I am also enjoying Astra and Sin's relationship. Mysteries solved, families meet, sparks keep flying everywhere. Amazing series!
A delightful cozy mystery with so much fun and chaos, you will find yourself laughing quite often. I love all the humor intermixed with the problems of one very loving book nerd, her farm of familiars, her dragon love interest and her grandmother's eccentricities in this third installment of this wonderfully fun series. Read and enjoy it now!
I absolutely love these books. They are the epitome of the type of book you want when you crave just snuggling up in a big comfy chair, with a cup of coffee and a blanket, to read a cozy book. The characters are amazing, from Satans humor, the other familiars personalities, and the full variety of other characters, I love them all.
Another great cozy mystery. I love Satan and his antics and the descriptions of the different familiars are so detailed you almost feel like you know them.
Omg Love this series so much which is completely made by the characters expecially Satan a.k.a the cutest book kitten in the world! Just dont tell him that as i dont want to be hex'd
Imagine having a magical pet! I love this series with its quirky characters and who-done-it mysterys. How does an author come up with ideas like a goth unicorn? How about a precious kitten with the mind of an evil overlord? Can't wait for the next book.
A Familiar Hex is the third installment in Rosemary A. John’s Oxford Magic Kitten mysteries and I am thrilled to be reunited yet again with the great Satan! LOL! He may be a little demon familiar, but he’s absolutely precious and am absolute delight. LOL! I’m thrilled to be reading more of Astra and Satan as things continue to get interesting with these fun characters. Asta, Sin and Satan are back and it seems that there is a lot going on with these characters. Things kick off with a flamey phoenix who is having a bit of a snit fit. He’s unhappy, but things are about to get more complicated when Sin brings a matter of trouble to Astra’s attention. Someone has been setting fires again and the Mayor is looking to hold him responsible...guilty or not guilty. So unfair Mr. Mayor! But add in more trouble when Astra asks her Gran for help, and then after coming through a portal her Gran begins to shrink away! So much going on and so much fun to be had as Satan works his magic to learn the truths of the situations. This book focuses a bit more on Satan than the others, but I’m not complaining. He’s so much fun to read and his diabolical schemes are an absolute laugh. I’d love to see some of them even come to be. LOL! The romance continues to build and develop between Sin and Astra which I absolutely love. I had to laugh quite a bit when there are some “secrets” that slipped that create a bit of confusion between Astra and Sin thanks to her Gran. The amusement though is totally worth it. The mystery that surrounds everything going on in this book is well done and worth every page-turn. I will say that at one point it becomes a bit obvious as to what is going on, but it’s fun to get the solid proof. I’m rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I love these characters and their antics and I can’t wait to read more of them in the future.
Our protagonist is Astra, she now lives in Witch Hollow in Oxford with her demon kitten and her familiar Satan. She is also now Deputy to the dragon shifter Sheriff of Oxford Earl Sin. Someone is burning main street business and some people think it might actually be the sheriff being he shifts into a Dragon, and he has relatives in town to top it off. But Astra and Satan have decided they will solve this crime spree and prove it is not the sheriff. But oh no guess who is coming to visit Astra’s Grandma – and she has Astra shaking in her knees. She knows Grandma will want her to return home and run the family business. But as soon as Grandma arrives in town she is struck down by a hex. I can’ go any further without giving anything away. But I love this series, and Satan looks just like my own baby kitty, perhaps she is my familiar as well! I received this novel through bookfunnel. This is my honest review.
Astra, a magically lacking witch, is trying to deal with a grand declaration from Sin, silver dragon royalty, and still place her ragtag group of familiars to their forever homes. As the story progresses a startling event creates panic, a stunning accusation prompts a rush to investigate, and things do not go as planned causing drastic measures to be taken. Rosemary A. Johns shines a light on the plight of the scapegoat in A Familiar Hex, but don’t worry, there are still plenty of plots and schemes from the great and mighty familiars readers love.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
In the last two books we got little tidbits of Astra's grandma and I absolutely loved that we got more of her in this book. There is plenty of humor again in this book while Astra and Sin both deal with family drama. Then you add in Satan and it is a game changer!
I have loved this series and cannot wait to find out what will happen next for this trio. There was some more relationship building in this one as well and I loved that you got to see more into the lives of Astra and Sin but also got more of the overarching series plot. This is definitely a must read and Satan helps along the way even if he is still plotting for world domination. I would highly recommend this series and I cannot wait to find out what happens next after the twist we were thrown in this book!
A Familiar Hex by Rosemary A Johns is Book 3 in the Oxford Magic Kitten Mysteries series. Astra, Satan & Sin are in for a challenge solving another mystery especially as Sin, our dragon sheriff, is the main suspect. Satan again steals the show as he has in the previous two adventures. Grandma has arrived and many secrets are revealed. There are so many laugh until you cry moments that make this a read that you don't want to put down. This is a must read as well as the first two books in the series, do not let this series pass you by. Received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review.
Another helping of Satan can never be turned down. Astra has Phoenix problems so who better to help than her grandmother. The grandmother who believes that Astra is in love with someone called Ernest from a good covern ... oops! This has all the same ingredients as the 2 previous books, snark, humour, a mystery to solve with consequences if they fail to solve it in time and a sweet romance between Astra and Sin. Add in the All Powerful Great Satan and you have the recipe for a great book which the author delivers in spades. I absolutely love this series and although they arent released yet have already added the future books in the series to my online wishlist. Can't wait for the next one!
It's always a fun escape from reality with this series, and book three was no different. We are collecting more and more hilarious characters in each book, and the shenanigans that ensue are always just the right kind of ridiculous.
As usual, Satan steals the show, what other series has a familiar narrating chapters? This series is so unique, and each book just adds to the background of the main characters and their version of the supernatural world.
I can't wait to see what this crew of misfits gets up to next.
