Betrayal: A History of the Communist Party of Australia

Rate this book
"The political line of the party must be brought into line with that of the Comintern" - Workers Weekly, October 1929. That's how it started. The Communist Party of Australia applauded when Stalin collaborated with the Nazis. It backed the Moscow frame-up trials - the extermination of life-long revolutionaries. "All for production" the CPA leaders cried in the War... Supporters of capitalism; strike breakers for Stalin.

Thousands of Hungarian workers gave their lives for the political revolution in 1956. The CPA called them fascists. CPA policies led to the victory of the Indonesian military junta in 1965. One million died. The Stalinists' "peaceful road" in Chile led to a bloodbath. Zionism is racist; Israel is imperialism's military outpost in the Middle East. The CPA supports both.

The real history of the CPA, from early communism inspired by the Russian Revolution of 1917 to the slavish adoption of Stalin's - and the bureaucracy's - policies. From communism to Stalinism. From revolution to betrayal.

A very good introduction to the record of Stalinism in general, and not just in Australia. The title is a bit misleading because this book actually covers the international policies of the Stalinist bureaucracy and their betrayals in Spain, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, their support for the creation of Israel, etc.
