An MM Kinky Romance

Only two men were allowed to touch him — his possessive boyfriend, and the dangerously charming tattoo artist hired to put that boyfriend's artwork under his skin.

Trinket was a virgin before he met the affluent architect Siebold 'Zee' Li, a fact he managed to keep under wraps for two years of domestic bliss. Siebold is a devoted boyfriend, but he leaves Trinket feeling like arm candy among his upper crust colleagues. Shy and a little prudish, Trinket struggles to balance his own pleasure with keeping Zee interested, until he finally hits on the idea of a tattoo to commemorate their anniversary.

When the tattoo artist, a heavily-inked bad boy archetype called Mini, lets Trinket stick around after hours, Trinket thinks nothing of it… until Mini introduces him to the barbell on his pierced tongue. After a steamy encounter, Trinket comes home inked and flustered, and effortlessly blows his boyfriend's mind.

In the heat of the moment, Zee confesses his secret desire: he wants Trinket tattooed from head to toe, his name between Trinket's legs and his designs all over Trinket's body, under his clothes where only Zee can see. Trinket agrees. The idea of being marked with his boyfriend's designs thrills him… almost as much as the idea of seeing that tattoo artist again.

A Taste of Ink (Part One) is a 30k word smutty rollercoaster, propelling readers into the Taste of Ink series at lightning speed.

This was ummmm! Don't even know how to phrase it.

Kink on top of some wierd kink.

I felt like I was thrown into the middle of a story.

I would have loved to know the characters more. Everything happened so fast and in the bedroom.

I think I might be reading this book wrong.
I’m honestly way more into Trinket’s relationship with his actual boyfriend than the dude he is cheating with.
And that just can’t be right.. After all, I'm pretty sure this book is intended to be kinky and sexy because of the cheating, not despite of it. Yet, here we are.

I mean, literally, I find the scenes with his boyfriend so good; they’re hot, tender, raw, loving, dirty, affectionate, possessive. I love it.

And then there’s the dude he’s cheating with, and he genuinely just weirds me out most of the time. I also really dislike him as a person.
There’s definitely potential for him to grow on me, though; maybe if he starts actually catching feelings for Trinket, then I’ll probably get more into it. Maybe we’ll even get some jealousy: I would love that.

But, you know, I simply feel so very bad for the boyfriend. Sorry. Can’t help it.

Nonetheless, I can’t deny that this book was incredibly hot. It just was. There’s a lot of smut here, and all of it is done extremely well. Even the cheating.

“I’ll dick you down so good you’ll forget his name. You’ll forget your own name.”
“That’s why I need you to tattoo his name on me. That way you can fuck me so hard I forget, and I have something I can double check before I go home to him.”

All in all, I was thoroughly engaged while reading this book, the relationship dynamic is very interesting, the sex is hot as hell, and the writing was pretty good (despite some typos).

Trinket, you’re one dirty SOB 🥵

I don’t condone cheating, but come on this fiction and pure smut how could I not love it? I’m giving this 4 because I was kind of bored when he was getting it on with his actual boyfriend 🙈 oops. Anyways this was hawt and super entertaining, on to the next!

ETA: Upon further reflection, I've upped my rating from 4 to 5 stars. Because this book and this series is so good, and yeah, there were some small things that annoyed me with this installment that I mention in my review, but this baby deserves all the yummy stars!!

This is compulsively readable, high-quality smutty scrumptiousness and INJECT THIS KINKY DELICIOUSNESS STRAIGHT INTO MY BLOODSTREAM!!!!!

This is also a cheating book. And I’m not gonna tell you what to think about that. Because, first, I don’t know your comfort zone and who am I to judge? And, second and more to the point: at about 15 percent, my brain was like, “objections noted and overruled, YOU ARE ROLLING WITH THIS.” And from that point on, my reaction to everything that happened was basically: yep, uh-huh, sounds legit, carry on!**

In other words: Fully buying what Daniel May was selling. Pleasurably and gleefully.

Seriously, though: the character work being done here is sooooooo good. Trinket is an intelligent, capable, and reasonably self-aware person who is also in many ways naïve, passive, and isolated. He was madly in love with and devoted to Zee long before they got together, to the exclusion of any other intimate or sexual relationships. Meaning that the first time he had (drunken, rough, and unexpected) sex with Zee was the first time he’d had sex ever, and it was traumatizing, physically and emotionally – something he took great pains to hide from Zee and repress even to himself. (CW: dubcon.) Zee was tuned in enough to pick up that something was wrong, and since that first intense-in-a-bad-way coupling, their sex life has been gentle, loving, and vanilla. And Trinket can’t even admit to himself that this isn’t working for him, much less articulate why it’s not working and what it is he needs that he’s not getting from Zee.

Uncharacteristically, seemingly out of the blue, Trinket decides to get a tattoo as an anniversary present for Zee, and he ends up with a lot more than some ink under his skin *wink wink*. To Trinket, Mini is like some kind of sex-kink jedi master. Trinket is unable to resist, and he applies Mini's teachings to his relationship with Zee to explosive (though not uniformly successful) effect.

And damn, the way these men and these relationships interact and all the power dynamics and the push-pull they’re engaging in and these notions of ownership and possession and devotion and shame and (dis)honesty they’re butting up against . . . not to mention the fact that Trinket and Mini fully integrate Zee into their interactions and fantasies when they are together, and Mini is very much in Trinket’s head (and at one point, in the room – eavesdropping-via-phone) while Trinket is with Zee, and meanwhile Zee has no idea there is a third person in this relationship, much less a third person who’s essentially driving and dictating this new kinky dimension of his and Trinket’s life together, and by the way, it ends up that Zee is something of a sex-kink jedi master-in-training himself . . . I MEAN COME ON!!! And it’s not like all this is happening entirely through sex, but it’s also not like there’s a huge amount of other stuff going on. This book is basically 70 percent sex and 100 percent character work.

And the reason it works, despite it all, is: I like Trinket. And I like Zee and Mini. And I like Trinket’s relationship with both of them, and I love the way these relationships push and feed off each other. NONE of these dudes should really be likable based on their blurbs – Trinket: cheating bastard; Zee: intense possessive guy who, let’s face it, has very much positioned Trinket as his kept boy; Mini: self-assured manipulative kinkster whose sweet talk is more bullying than seduction. And yet here I was, super invested and not wanting any comeuppances to come.

This is bonkers good.

(Also, given that we’re in Trinket's POV the whole time, it helps that he doesn’t really buy his own bullshit. Like, he is a cheating bastard and he knows it and keeps doing it because he’s getting something out of it, even when these things are dark and cruel. See above re: yep, uh-huh, sounds legit, carry on!)

To keep some pretense of reviewer impartiality, I have to knock this down a notch due to typos and some misplaced words and pronoun confusion and the occasional sentence wonkiness. I try to be more forgiving about this stuff when it’s self-pubbed, but it does drive me nuts and knocks me out of the story.

In sum: 4 out of 5 stars spontaneous combustions!

** With one exception: at one point Trinket has unprotected penetrative sex with Mini without either of them having established their respective health status; and then Trinket carries on having unprotected sex with Zee, seemingly without even thinking about the fact that he is putting Zee at risk without Zee’s knowledge or consent. This really bothered me, even though after the fact it is established that Mini had already tested himself and knew he was STI-free before the encounter in question (though Trinket didn't know this). Indeed, from that point on it’s Mini who is most at-risk, since Trinket still hadn’t bothered getting tested; though Mini is at least in a position to consent to the risk, unlike Zee.

CWs: dubcon -- very intense, traumatic scene whose effects carry through the story; cheating; unprotected penetrative sex when health status is undisclosed

Update: I finished the series and hold on to your knickers, my lovelies, it is a ride!

2.5 stars (3 stars initially but I slept on it and changed my mind)

Trinket's lack of remorse was the main stumbling block here, but not for the reasons you might think.

I'm not averse to cheating in books. I don't like it but I can push through.

Yes, Trinket has a good partner. No, he doesn't have much of a reason to cheat (you'll need to suspend your disbelief a little more than usual for this premise) because Zee (his partner) has shown no aversion to rough/kinky sex - there's absolutely no need for Mini if you think long and hard about it.

No. The reason I didn't like Trinket's lack of remorse is because of what it took from the narrative instead of what it gave. Trinket talks about liking the "clarity of cheating" and there's no denying that it liberates him to have better sex with Zee - the kind they both like.

BUT.

The stakes could have been much higher if Trinket had been consumed by guilt. Can you imagine the agony of knowing he's deepening his relationship with his partner at the cost of... well, fidelity? It would have made for such a lovely, torturous moral quandary and an interesting exploration of Trinket's character - because let's be clear, it's heavily implied that he's doing this for Zee as much as his own pleasure.

Someone said in their review that they were probably reading this wrong because they enjoyed Zee and Trinket together more than Mini and Trinket and I think it's much the same for me.

I see there are seven (?) books in the series but I doubt I'll get to them, much less the second one. A quick peek at the synopses of books 2 and 3 shows a deterioration in Zee and Trinket's relationship which, again, could have been made even more gripping with the nuance of Trinket's remorse.

Ok, so this is not like any other book I have read so I took a little bit to reflect and decide how it really made me feel. A little guide to the characters: Zee and Trinket are in a two year committed relationship. Trinket decides to get a tattoo for their anniversary and this enters Mini, the tattoo artist who awakens desires in Trinket for Zee.

I feel torn honestly. On one hand, I do believe that Trinket lives Zee very much and is justifying his cheating in saying he is doing it for Zee. In his defense, he is using his new confidences after the cheating with Zee and for Zee and is thinking of Zee while it is happening. Here comes my niggle though, he also thinks of Mini while with Zee. Not as much but it is still there. So far there has been no penetrative anal sex between Mini and Trinket and honestly that helped me get through it. It feels like Trinket is saving that part of his relationship for Zee, but it appears to be going that way. I’m not sure I could have gotten through this book with that, and I’m not sure I can read the next if that is coming...

I do not feel that Trinket has feelings for Mini outside of the lustful ones, so that is also helpful. This story is definitely hard. I think something that would have made it better and easier to wrap your head around is perhaps more background as to why Trinket even thought this was a good idea or why he feels his sex live with Zee is lacking...just anything to get into his head as to why he is truly doing this. You get small glimpses but I think something more substantial would help. Also, I do not see how Zee isn’t going to find out, and he definitely does not seem like the sharing type, so I’m not sure how that is all going to play out. Perhaps Trinket will finally feel he has all the tools to keep Zee and his sex life to be as it should be and stop the cheating with Mini...

Holy WOW!

You know, there are books, which are like you need to change your underwear after reading it, and be happy that you haven't read it in public? This is that kind of book! And wow, I can't find the words, it was so so good! It was everything I love in an erotic romance, kinky sex scenes, emotions - and ahhh, have I told you I had to change my panties after reading it?!

The only problem I have is - where is the next one! I need it NOW!

Trinket, Mini, Zee ... just wow. I can't wait to see how this story will turn out, because clearly, I can't imgaine how Trinket's future will look like. The anticipation is killing me big time!

I loved everything about this book. It was short, it was full on erotic romance, I loved the kinky talk and I loved how Mini opened Trinket's eyes. Trinket and Zee's relationship is really interesting, and I just want more! I can not wait for more, I'm in a big NEED!

And it's a debut book, but sign me up for more from the author! I need more books like this in my life.

This book surprised me in a very good way! It was recommended on IG, and it kind of intrigued me. Because...Well...sometimes all you want is some deliciously dirty smut!
But...there was more to this book than just that and that's where the surprise comes in.
It's definitely not a book for everyone. There's cheating. There's possessive behavior. There's kinky sex. But boy, if you can look past that, this book does offer you something!
For instance, it is truly well written. It's engaging. Something about it that pulls you in and you just need to know where this is going. Behind the smutty scenes, there's a real story to be told.
After I finished it (it's only about a 100 pages, so really short) I couldn't stop thinking about it, and it made me buy the second book right away. It doesn't end on a hea or a hfn - the story continues! I would love to find out what's happening with Trinket, Zee and Mini, the bad boy tattoo artist.
If you are into some dirtiness, some intriguing characters doing interesting things, this might be your book. But be aware of the cheating part.

Jesus Christ on a cracker. What a deliciously erotic smutty story! If you can read past the cheating (I know it’s a big no-no for some) this is fucking amazing.

I freaking loooooved seeing the dichotomy of Trinket’s actions. His shyness and reservedness vs him letting his inner dirty self loose. I started this book with a vague knowledge of the plot (word of mouth) but without having actually read the blurb. I thought Trinket went to Mini because he was dissatisfied with Zee, and although my assumption was kind of true in a way, I was also shocked to see the kind of love between Zee and Trinket.

Well, I know what I’m reading next!!

First of all, if cheating is a trigger for you, then don’t even think about picking up this book – the storyline is all about the cheating and the effects on the main relationship and there is no way to avoid it.

With that out of the way, holy moly, Daniel May has done it again! This book is so hot, it’s practically steaming. As a person who has more than their fair share of tattoos, I completely agreed with what Mini said: once you’ve had one, you’re already planning the second on and so on. However, I have never had the reaction that Trinket has, and I’ve certainly never had that interaction with any of my tattoo artists (shame!)

Trinket is fascinating – he seems so completely unaware of himself, of his feelings and watching as Mini peels back the layers of his character whilst tattooing him is completely fascinating. And his relationship with Zee is a bit like car-crash TV. You almost read the story between your fingers, waiting for disaster to strike with how completely Trinket is stumbling through this situation.

The story is about Trinket figuring himself out as a person apart from Zee, learning his power and also what makes him tick. It is also incredibly hot and steamy, with some sections that literally made me feel hot and bothered in the extreme. I cannot wait for the next in the series as I found myself desperate to find out what happens between Mini and Trinket when Trinket doesn’t have to go home to his lover. I’ve never ready anything like this and completely loved it. 5/5 from me.

I received an ARC from GRR.

Dang, this series though 🔥🔥

Definitely won't be for everyone, especially people who can't read about cheating. Usually it's not what I read either but this author had a way of captivating me from the very beginning leaving me conflicted. So many of the scenes were hot hot hot though. This is another one that was so wrongfully good. I always enjoy books by authors who aren't afraid to go there. It's always a breath of fresh air to me. I'm still unsure how I feel about the characters though, not really sure any of them are likeable but I can't stop watching the disaster unfolding in front of me. It's a train wreck I can't look away from. Anyway if you're looking for something super kinky that's off the charts hot af then pick up this series but don't expect you're typical sweet and loving romance. There is definitely romance here, but its anything but conventional.

WARNING: Ok, if you can’t get past the cheating then it’s cool, just find you another book to read!

Sooooooo fist impression? I wanted more!!
I love what Trinket and Zee have, it’s loving and caring. I do also feel like Zee kinda just is going through the motions of the whole relationship thing. Idk he seemed kinda? uninterested? Granted, I could also feel that he’s been holding himself back and i just wanted to shake him and slap him to give Trinket what he wants...what he needs!!
On that note, i loooooove Mini. I mean talk about cracking open the egg that is Trinket!

Can wait to dive into book 2!

Filthy, dirty, kinky, so very hot 🥵 🥵 🥵
A nice little smutfest. Trinket explores his desire for pain, that little slut. And I loved it.
I can hardly believe how he could be in a relationship for two years without really acting out on his sexuality. At the same time, the love between him and Zee is so sweet and so mutual that it's understandable how they could be content with that. Yet they both obviously need something else.
I enjoyed this first installment very much. Despite the obvious focus on sex scenes, you get to know the characters and part of their history well. I hope in the following, Mini gets more backstory.
A few words on the cheating, which apparently makes many readers hesitate or, who simply do not like the book because of it. I'm desperately trying to remember if I've ever read anything like this and I just can't find an example. I'm not usually a fan of cheating in stories either. But, it was very refreshing for me that the feeling of guilt is completely absent. I'm sure these set in later in the story, but I could really do without them overall. And even if it's not nice for the betrayed party, I think that cheating doesn't always have to be burdened with guilt. I think it is wrong to regret every step that hurts others but is so important and right for oneself.
Excellently written. And thanks to the author for being brave enough not to dwell on the clichés of cheating but to present it from this perspective.

**If you’re sensitive to infidelity and possessive behavior, I wouldn’t recommend this for you. There is also some dubious consent due to miscommunication/lack of communication.**

This work is the first installment of a series, sitting at ~100 pages of content. A man named Trinket meets his tattoo artist Mini who opens the doors and guides him through exploring new sexual experiences. There’s a lot of emphasis on Trinket’s discovery of new avenues and some psychology around his acts of infidelity, the emotional processes he goes through with each act and how it affects him and his long term partner Zee.
I honestly really love the contrast between Zee and Mini. Mini’s (albeit unconventional) helping hand (or tongue) and teasing personality helps Trinket to improve on his ability to communicate his own wants and needs, and that reflects directly into Trinket’s relationship with Zee. Zee is upright and hardworking, though we begin to see he has his own array of desires beneath the surface, painting him not quite as vanilla as he might seem.
I would say all three of the introduced characters seem morally grey to me, which is way more intriguing than most black-and-white infidelity works I’ve read. Trinket is the main character for sure, but I would almost say the work is more about exploring themes and dynamics (and smut of course) than any overarching plot.
Unfortunately, the end of this installment feels a bit abrupt. It’s not exactly a cliffhanger? It leaves you wondering what will happen next for sure, eagerly awaiting the next part in the series, but I was a little surprised at how sudden the ending seemed to sneak up on me. I suppose I was a little too wrapped up in reading I didn’t notice I was blasting through the book. It felt more like a chapter end than a book end, if that makes sense.
As a side note, it also reads well through a text to speech reader, which is really nice for accessibility. Not all digital novels I’ve read translate well into the text to speech.

For full disclosure, I was provided with a free copy in exchange for review.

I need part 2 yesterday

So...this was really good. I mean REALLY good. And it's a debut which is extra wow. Y'all ain't got no excuse now.

I don't even fully know how to review this. It's not that I don't understand what happened but more so that I devoured this so quickly and ferociously that I'm still dizzy from it. Trinket and Zee are hot, Trinket it and Mini are hot. As long as you ignore interesting choice of names, the whole thing is hot all right. The smut is A+.

So is the story of for that matter. This is a cheating story btws. That's not a spoiler, it's in the blurb. But unlike other cheating stories I've read, no one is really the villain here. I couldn't tell you who the antagonist or even the protagonist is. Trinket is our main character yes, but that's as far as my knowledge goes. It's really interesting how this story is unfolding and being told. I genuinely cannot wait to see what happens in part 2. Fingers crossed for more kink.

If you like your romances on the dark and twisted side, you'll adore this. The characters are fascinating, the story is really interesting, and the smut set my Kindle ablaze so 5 easy stars. I'm a little sad my tattoo experience weren't as sexy.

DAAAAAAAMN!
I came across this accidentally as a file share and only realized it was man on man as I read it. As a predominantly hetero girl I tend to read hetero smut, but this is the hottest thing I have read in..... years....
The series is super twisted, with cheating being a major component of the whole story, which is not usually my jam, but this was well executed and hot. I found the characters and their relationship dynamics real and fascinating, sometimes uncomfortable.

It was such a relief to read a hot smut book that also has romance without all the fucked up patriarchal drivel which is so endemic in female-centric erotic romance. This dumb fantasy that once a man finds his 'true-mate' he'll never look at another woman, won't even be able to or his cock will shrivel up and fall off. Or the damn 25-year-old lady virgins that somehow save themselves for their magical perfect cock lover to plow them into submission and forever luuuuuv. Perfect 'alpha' hemen that pursue their tiny, delicate flower of a woman with complete devotion, while removing her choices and free will, all for her own good and protection. And the kink is often written by someone that doesn't really understand it. That idealizes this fantasy of the 24/7 Dom/sub thing being the only true, real way for a sub and Dom to truly be themselves.

By contrast, this series of mini-books is written by someone that understands the 'game' of power exchange, and knows how to make addressing it as a game hot, rather than pulling you out of the fantasy. Indeed that contrast of educated kinkster, vs controlling wanna-be is explored in this story between lover and boyfriend.

I have almost completed the series and can't wait to see where it goes. The cheating thing is kinda heart-breaking but it's real and I get it and yes it's hot in this story.

What a ride! Reading this book is like being in a rollercoaster of conflicting feelings, but in such good way! I couldn´t put it down, I needed to see where it was going, how far Trinket would go and how much more teasing Mini would dare do.

Trinket & Zee are a couple that share an obssessive type of relationship, though it's subtle, and disguised as dedication, but it's there, we can feel it on the way they want to please each other, on the way they belong to each other and on the way they enjoy the idea of Trinket having Zee's tattoos marking him. Even as Trinket cheats repeatedly with Mini, he uses his love as an excuse and he thinks of Zee all the time. However he obsesses over Mini as well, and it feels more and more like he's going to be in a triangle trap, from which he won't be able to escape on his own.

It ends abruptly in a cliffhanger and I can't wait to start book 2 and see where this will go!

This 30k word story has cheating, lust, love, teasing, phone sex, lots of kink and hot - hot - hot scenes.

Trinket wanted to surprise his boyfriend, Zee, with an anniversary tattoo, so far so good. At the tattoo parlor he meets Mini, the sexy tattoo artist, who confronts Trinket with his sexual desires and fantasies. At first, Trinket hopes to forget about cheating on Zee but he can’t. Trinket’s thoughts are consumed by ideas Mini planted in his mind...
Zee loves Trinket tattoo and wants him covered in ink but only where only he can see it.
Going back to Mini for more, more tattoos, more sex, more sexual freedom, gives Trinket a chance to explore his masochistic tendencies. Tendencies Zee doesn’t know that much about and wouldn’t explore with Trinket out of fear of hurting him. For Trinket is choosing one over the other not an option. One is the love of his life and the over one is somebody who understands is sexual needs. The both complete him in a way.
This book does contain cheating but also making tough decisions between desire and love. It is an amazing story about giving up control and giving in to your own fantasies. There a open end and no HEA but that does not diminish the awesome end.

Check out this great new release! I read straight through it without putting it down, that’s how capturing the story is.

This book is extreme in all senses of the word. There’s BDSM, rough sex, and emotional and psychological themes that will make you wonder where it’s going on every page.
Trinket is a sweet, shy man who’s been in relationship with Zee for two years. Trinket loved Zee for awhile before they got together, and loves their life in Zee’s beautiful home. When he decides to get a tattoo in honor of them, his whole world is flipped on its axis.
Trinket meets Mini, a rough tattoo artist who’s incredibly blunt and does not hide how he thinks about Trinket. Trinket has never thought about straying from Zee, until Mini. His growing relationship with Mini also starts changing his dynamic with Zee, as Trinket gains clarity about their relationship and what he wants.
There is a warning regarding cheating, as there is cheating in this book. I didn’t find it disturbing in the context, and it actually made me more curious as to what will become of Trinket.
This book is intense, emotional, and very steamy. I definitely need to complete this series to see what becomes of these men.

Firstly let me say I’ve got this book from gay romance reviews and this is not me leaving my honest review.
Wow where do I even begin firstly let me say this is one of the hottest books I’ve read for a long time. The kinks are new to me. I’ve got to say I don’t condone cheating and I struggle at the beginning of this book with the cheating but I had to look at it from trinkets point of view and in his head he’s doing this for his boyfriend. Because after he has been with Mini he is so charged up and horny for his boyfriend that their sex life has just gone off the charts. But in my eyes it is cheating and I struggle because he doesn’t see that way. And I don’t know why but they’re just too many red cards flashing for me I think that Mini and Zee are In this together. How does Mini always seem to know the answers to trinket questions??? How did he know about the outfit how did you get it so spot-on?? So I am left feeling very intrigued and can’t wait to start on book 2 Because I think there’s a hell of a lot that we don’t know about yet.
