I survived Orientation at Crystal Wing Academy—barely—and now it’s time to learn how to control my power.
After destroying a power-sucking slake before he killed my friends, I’m feeling stronger and more confident than ever. Donovan and I are together, I’m pulling in more threads than before, and I have new abilities I’m excited to master… So, I might be flunking Magical Creatures & How to Tame Them. Not everything comes easy, right?
When I stumble over a dead girl—one of eight Outlings at the Academy—and she’s marked with an O and a #7, it’s clear someone’s copycatting the Outling murders that took place one hundred years ago. With the clock ticking down and more Outlings turning up dead, I’ll soon be next. Last time, every Outling at the Academy was murdered. But the killer is about to learn this Outling wizard won’t go down without a fight.
An exciting new world for magical academy fans, filled with suspense, a badass heroine, and flirty romance. Dragonsworn is the second book in the young adult Crystal Wing Academy series. Look for book three, Unraveler, on Amazon. This book is 77,000 words.
Marty writes young adult fiction and infuses it with suspense, romance, and a touch of humor. When she’s not dreaming up ways to mess with her character’s lives, she works as an RN. She lives in New England with her husband, three children, three geriatric cats, and a spunky Yorkie pup who keeps her on her toes.

She also writes adult contemporary romance and romantic suspense under the pen name, Marlie May. Marty/Marlie was a 2018 RWA ® Golden Heart ® Finalist in contemporary short and romantic suspense.
Fast-paced and full of quirky, fantastical creatures, this is a fun read with enough action and intrigue to keep those pages turning until the end.
This is the second book in the series. I did have the pleasure of reading the first one and recommend starting out at the beginning, since the tale does build from book to book. But the author gives enough information that it isn't impossible to start with book two.
Fleur survived her first adventures at the Crystal Wing Academy, a magical school in Maryland which humans are unaware exists. She is one of the shunned Outlings—those who come from the outside world and weren't born of those possessing magic. While it appears that things have gotten better, the death of one of the other rare Outlings raises concerns that someone is trying to wipe them out. Again. After all, it's not the first time it's happened at the academy. With her own powers still a mystery, Fleur realizes she's the only one taking the deaths seriously and plans to investigate. But there might be more to it than anyone suspects...not to mention that Fleur's own heart suddenly stands on the line as well.
These books hold the fantastical, and somewhat humorous details, which remind of the Harry Potter world, but drop in the full drama of cliques and high school life, girl power and a bit of romance too. Fleur is everything to be expected—has a difficult past, an outcast, a fighter, kind, determined, and has a heart of gold. She makes mistakes, tons of them, and has to stumble quite a bit before she reaches her goals...and often these don't turn out the way she planned. It makes her strong but definitely not too much so, and leaves tons of room for character growth. The plot is quick paced and dominates the tale as the intrigue weaves thicker and thicker.
There is romance, but this is more like a pixie dust coating on the darker magical adventure. It's completely appropriate for even younger YA audiences and works more on friendship than anything else.
The mystery is well laid out for most of the book and promises a few huge surprises still to come in the rest of the series. The last chapters did drop clues a little quick, which made it come across slightly more rushed than the rest of the book, but it wasn't even to ruin the story. There's a cliff-hanger ending (something to love or hate), but it definitely keeps the fingers itching to see what will happen next.
All in all, this is an easy and fun adventure to sink into without too much fault and simply enjoy the magical ride.
I received an ARC and enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm giving this 4.5 stars and rounding up.

I received an ARC and enjoyed it enough to want to leave my honest thoughts.
This was a good read. Fleur continues her journey at the academy. The problem is that she finds a body. It turns out that someone is repeating the killings that happened a long time ago. Now it's up to her and the others to figure out what is going on.
A Scarier & Meaner Second Book!😳😡😭💔 4.5 Stars 🌟 Crystal Wing Academy: Dragonsworn, Book #2
Wow, this was an nail biting read!!😱 Fleur is settling in well with her small group of friends & she's growing ever closer to Donovan!😍🙏💘 As the 2nd Years start the bullying towards the 8 Outlings in both years increases. They hold weekly meeting to help each other in anyway they can.👍 Fleur puts herself under more & more pressure to excel as the bullying & taunts get worse.😢 Then on her way back to her Coven Room one night she literally stumbles over a dead body. Its a fellow 1st year, coven mate and Outling!!😱💔 She has an O with the number 7 gouged into her upper chest, does it stand for "O'utling & that there's only seven of them now??😳 Unfortunately the mark disappears before anyone else sees it. Things continue to go down hill for Fleur in many ways as the term continues!!😟 There are some amazing highlights though & she's starting to grasp bits of information about the 6th Family - finally!🙏💥
This is another magical read that gripped me from the get go.😃 It has darker themes but it's interspersed with plenty of light moments too. I'm loving this series & can't wait for the next book!!😍🌟
OMG this series just gets better and better! I loved book one but this book is even better with more action, mystery, intrigue, magic and of course our kick ass heroine to save the day! I am loving the world this author has built and the characters and the story continues to grow and you find yourself sucked in and you don't wanna leave! Can’t wait to read the next book!
I really enjoyed this. As the series progresses it gets better and better. The way the author ends the books on a slight cliff hanger is fun. I love the mix of magic, darkness, academy settings and murder mystery all in one. I love sparky and I want more of him. Fleur is finding herself, and finding out new forms of magic that she has. And I’m here for it all! I will say the secrets, so many secrets and vague responses. It’s frustrating at times. I was not expecting the romance between Fleur & Donovan to take the turn that it did. I wasn’t a fan of them in the first book. Still really not in this one either. But at the same time I want them to work? Lol. Excited to see what happens in book 3.
The second book did not disappoint!!!! I think I have finally found a series that I will be able to get all the way through!
I will only give this book a 3 star compared to a 4 star like the first book because the plot wasn't as enticing as the first book. At some points it seemed to lag a little and I was ready to jump to the end. I also am still unsure about the love interest in this book. I think it is because there is still so much unknown about him. It's the second book so for me I want more about him and what his interests are. I feel like I don't really know him or what motivates him other than this insta love for the MC that seems a bit shallow.
BUT other than that is was a fun read and I do recommend it.
I’m enjoying this, I am. However the secrets that are being dangled with no real revelations (apart from my thoughts that she is from the 6th Coven and the crystal dragon will come to life for her) are just frustrating me to no end. Now that Donovan and Alys have been annexed (temporarily?) I’m wondering whether the author is trying to have the protagonist at her lowest before rising from the ashes in the final book.
Loved Capria, and the red dragons identity is a sort of surprise.
So this series starts a little slow for me..like reading level low but it gets better. At the age of 7 She uses magic without even know magic was real -her mom flips out and leaves her with a Troll to raise her.At the age of 17 the Troll sends her to Crystal Academy-a Fae school. She has typical high school problems but also has students missing and she tries to solve the issues. BOOK 2: She is still trying to master her powers and solve new murders that pop up. I do think this book is better that 1st book.
3 h vor Ende abgebrochen. Teil 1 hat mir wirklich gut gefallen. U.a.
Really enjoyed this second book in the series. Love the classes and creatures in this book, really creative and fun. I love trying to predict where a books going, but I didn’t get this one. It kept me on my toes the whole time trying to work it out. Had to read it in one sitting and was really happy with everything that came about.
I would definitely recommend it and I’m looking forward to the next one.
This is a really well- written YA. The MC is likeable and she isn’t whiny or too dependent on others. She’s smart and isn’t caught up too much in teenage angst. There’s a nice balance and the author concentrates more on the plot line rather than the relationship. Book 2 takes off straight where book 1 finished and provided an intriguing development in the rift between outlines and elites and the six families. Looking forward to the final book in this trilogy.
Long ago, Dragonsworn symbolized a pact between the dragons and the fae.
Was Fleur an outling or was she part of the sixth family Elite? She picks up elemental magic easily. She can see all the colored threads and store them in her moonstone. She finds the.deadly nightlace has been killing the outlings. Launching her own investigation only gets her in trouble. Donovan has been bespelled. Wait until you read why and by who! The future holds exciting new studies for her!
Well, this is a teenager book. I'm over 59 and I couldn't put it down. The story and the action kept me rivited. I would highly recommended this it makes a great weekend read. A con, if you are a Sticler for perfect grammar. This is not for you. There are quite a grammatical errors
It’s a good book and a perfect continuation of the story arc but the half answers are killing me, sometimes it was a little slow and frustrating is you do as I do and merge yourself with the main character life and emotions. But the story keeps getting better and I am almost 100% sure that she is only half outling.
It was ok. Kinda bounced around a lot i thought. Sometimes characters showed up with out you knowing. I still like Fluer but she's just in to many close calls or situations that she always comes out fine in. Only thing i didn't like was Fluer was so many battles that were solved within a page or two. Still reading book 3 tho! The and of book 2 was exciting!
This was a great continuation of the Fleur and Donovan storyline. And I loved Capria! So cute! I just hope the next book comes out soon - I can't wait to see what happens next.
More on the mysterious families. More importantly learning more animals and people. More unexplained murders and more seekers. Who is after who. Learning more about plants.
You know ... I usually hate the memory trope, where a main character gets their memory wiped, but I felt like this is the first time I've seen it done well. I guess we'll have to see in the next book.

Fluer, Donovan, Patty and all the other characters are great! I love Fluer's grit and determination! Donovan is completely lovable, as is Patty. Don't miss this entertaining series by Marty Mayberry!
I think I'm addicted to these books. I also LOVED Harry Potter books, so this is wonderful. I just can't stop reading, the books are soooo good. Now reading book 3 ...
