Dragon Heart #10

Land of War

Rate this book
Hadjar Darkhan heeded the call of his dragon heart. His path was dangerous, full of hardships and bitter losses. And when he came close to reaching his goal, he lost everything instead…

Hadjar survived the bloody war for the throne of his homeland. He fought against monsters and enemies that made entire generations tremble in fear. He traversed the vast Sea of Sand, found the mythical Mage City, and witnessed the destruction of an ancient civilization. Then, in the pursuit of knowledge, Hadjar came to Dahanatan, the capital of the Empire.

Hadjar had thought his goal was worth the sacrifice, but now he wasn’t so sure. He’d made too many mistakes, lost too much, and paid too high a price by unquestioningly heeding that inexorable call. Had it all been for nothing? What if Hadjar Darkhan was just an ordinary fool who’d found his supposed destiny somewhere it had never been in the first place? No convenient answers were forthcoming…

Hadjar's foes just keep getting stronger and stronger. If I had the habit of biting nails, I'd have none left after reading this book. I got so anxious but it was all so very exciting at the same time. Great addition to the Dragon Heart series!

I had some high hopes for this book considering the last book was so great. I didn’t really feel satisfied until the last 20-30 pages. This book was kind of a hot mess. The action was almost non stop which was fun. But the magic/cultivation system has really become pretty convoluted to the point it is almost meaningless. The over use of dreamscape, mystical fairy/demon lands made it extremely difficult to follow what was going on and where Hadgar is. The ending showed that there is a lot of potential for the series. It just needs to quit beating around the bushes and have stuff happen.

I loved this book. It was a great continuation of the series. Though I have to say the ending has me worried about the future of Hadjar's kingdom of Lidus. Though happy to see that he survived. Though I am worried about what that means for his wife and child. Mentioning he is the last of his people really doesn't make it sound like anything good happened. I loved the whole returning soldier coming home. He comes back and instantly his soldiers are ready to do whatever he needs them to do if he needs them to do it. The conversation his sister had with her lover was epic. She pretty much explains why they call him the Mad General. That was when he was at half-power. Now he is roaring and ready to go at 100% of his true self. Let's see how Mad he really can get.

The hardest battle is one with yourself

Hadjar Darkan has battled many foes and he heads to war again to fight against an old rival, but what he finds is not what he expected and he finds himself struggling with his very own path. This book continues the amazing adventure of Hadjar and brings new revelations and secrets. If you have come this far, you must come further and read this book.

Felt like the machinery was showing in this one. You know, get beaten, get stronger, win, get beaten, etc. Usually it’s not quite such a grind. I could barely remember Derek and now he has a whole book? I found it hard to get excited about him and the Tree of Life stuff felt like the author just pulled it out of his bum. Yeah, Tree of Life, zombies, that’ll do. Maybe I’m just getting tired of these.

I was going to give a 4* rating for this one, but the author pulled another good climax in the end and I can't help but give 5*.

That aside, there are issues with the book, and this time with the story too, not just the translation.

The translation felt very choppy for the first 40% or so. There was no flow to the writing. It felt like anyone who had translated had done so sentence by sentence instead of understanding how the scene is happening, and how is it shifting from one scene to another.
Then suddenly from ~40% onwards to about 60% it gets a LOT better. Sentences and scenes start to flow together. The story is also good during this portion, so the overall book feels great at this point. But then again after ~60% it goes back to being choppy and disconnected, right upto around 80% maybe, after which it again improves.
Could use some more work in my opinion.

Now moving onto the story, this is probably one of the first times that I have felt that the story is getting pushed in a certain direction without much explanation.

All in all, much more explanations are necessary if you want to forcefully drive the plot in a certain direction I think. And fighting opponents beyond your level is fine until a point. Till now Hadjar usually faced people one stage above him. When you increase the jump even further then it just ends up undermining the whole cultivation system in my opinion.

Wonderful addition to the series...

This tenth episode relates the opening moves of the war between Darnassus and Lancan, where Derek of the Steppe and Hadjar battle throughout. As always, the book covers so many events it's hard to condense into a good summary. You must read this! If you haven't been reading this series, begin with Book 1 today. I'm already impatient for the next book!

Exceptional Series!

This is an exceptional series that I just can’t put down. I really enjoyed this book, it had a few excellent and exciting twists and surprises. I highly recommend the Dragon Heart series to any fans of Fantasy, Cultivation and Wixia. Even if you gave no idea what Wuxia and Cultuvation is, I still recommend this book for any fan of Fantasy and Roleplaying. This book was a great addition to the series, and I can’t wait for the next book. Awesome series!

Not badly written, just repugnant.

Letting Derek live in one of the last books was an oddly poor decision, doing so by fanning his blind hatred was bizarrely stupid, having all that come back to bite you in the worst way while positioned as a life lesson…

Ugh, too on the nose, too contrived, too boring. It’s a 20 book and this is the first throwaway so I can’t complain too much, but UGH!

Love the series

I love the adventures of North Wind and this set of chapters was filled with action, character growth and further deepening of the story. I also want to thank the translators for helping get the English. Erosions out much more quickly now! Keep it up, I am eager to catch up to the Already released chapters.

Perfect as every book of the series

I don't know the words to express the satisfaction, happiness and joy that brings me reading " Dragon Heart" it's amazing, I am really grateful to the whole team of editors and translators, and of course my most grateful gratitude to the author for giving life to this story. Hopefully the waiting for the next book won't be too long.

Kees getting better

I’ll keep this one short. This book is incredible. It amped up the intrigued. Closed off some story lines. And the ending....well it was the best part and the worst. Best because our character came out swinging like never before. And worst....well because I now I have to wait months for the next one.

Its hard to know why I love this series so much and rank it above other similar books, despite some small problems. Its not the best edited one, sometimes its a little winded , but I don't care, because the character development is great and the world feels alive.
It manages to keep a long story fresh and interesting, developing an ever expanding world and filling it with great lore.

S tier Lit rpg series

I've read a lot of litrpg in the last few years, but to me, this is the best series so far.
If you are reading this review and have not read the series from the start, I envy you. And if you have read the rest of the series, what are you waiting for? The North wind is coming

This installment felt a little disjointed. I'm honestly not sure what a linear version of the Earth-based flash-back should look like. The decision to leave Hadjar's absorption of Orune's bequest was disappointing. It seemed he took a major leap in skills off-screen, just in time to defeat the final boss.

Another good one in the series

In this book we see more flashbacks back to the MC’s previous life on Earth. Many of those parts were confusing but they gave insight into where he came from. Glad we saw vengeance for one of the villains in this one and that the MC advances again though how that happened was also confusing.

power level difference?

felt power difference seems off, if main character can defeat invincible derek, how is it the other "great" hero who is weaker than derek since no one could reach his true kingdom suddenly use 1/4th of his pinky and main character is sent flying already. something seems off...

NO SPOILERS.

Book 10 of the Dragon Heart series was good. But not in the way one might have expected. Land Of War was more of a self-reflection and growth story. Not bad, but certainly not what one might expect in a book titled "Land of War." Many characters make appearances. Many plot points are introduced. One giant one is dealt with. Still an interesting series.

Excellent

This is the 10th book in the series and was an excellent finish for this arc of the story. But wait there's more! Book 11 will be out soon, and I personally am looking forward to it. If you haven't read any of the books in this series you are definitely missing out.

Greatest sequel to the story yet

Like always the plot continues, but it was a much slower one compared to the other books, but still showed great progression. And finally get to learn more the MC and hes past life and how he came to be who he is

Still going strong

What I love about the series besides the great storytelling and characters and plot twists and my inability to predict what will happen next is that the MC is not stagnant. He keeps overcoming, getting stronger, and there’s a new horizon to challenge.

What a rush

Amazing book, satisfying after many books. We finally see the conclusion to many threats and the start of many more. Hope we see some cultivation level up in the future since we have been stuck at spirit knight for so long. Can’t wait for the next one. More please!
