Rock This Wolf

Vamps, wolves, and rock’n’roll!

When her night off at her favorite band’s concert turns into a chilling murder investigation, ICRA Agent Gina Brent would like nothing more than to distance herself from the case.

The mere thought of keeping an eye on the delectable rockabilly singer whose fan ended up drained and dead by the backstage door triggers Gina’s flight response—except her connection to Aric Sutter is precisely why her boss believes she’s the right wolf for the job.

Of course, the man has no idea about the massive crush she’s had on the hotter-than-sin vampire for years.

Post-show chats are one thing, but spending time in the singer’s proximity beyond the safety net of a crowded afterparty threatens to take a toll on Gina's composure. Especially since she can’t shake the feeling that the alluring darkness behind the vamp’s fanged smile might be lethal for more than just her werewolf heart.

Good

A lot of intrigue and doubt in this book. Gina is a strong female lead. A good start to the series. Just a warning, this book does bot resolve the relationship, it looks to be an ongoing in progress thing, so while there’s a lot of chemistry it’s not a fast burn in that sense.

This is a great start to a brand new series that had me on the edge of my seat the whole read! There’s mystery and suspense, drama and intrigue and great chemistry between the characters with a slow burn romance starting. A gripping storyline to hold your attention in this fantasy paranormal read, I look forward to reading more.

This is book one of the ICRA Files: Berlin series and the main character is ICRA (Interspecies Crimes and Relations Agency) Agent Gina Brent, who is hoping for a promotion within the department, to help her aunts Meli and Britta pay for some more improvements to the wards keeping her brother Dominick safe from others. He was cursed during the War some nine years before and they haven’t been able to find a cure for it, to stop him changing and getting out of control. Gina is a werewolf, as is her brother, and she is concerned about the costs of looking after him and the danger to her aunts, as his condition worsens. One thing she has to look forward to, is the upcoming Whiskey Jet Preacher concert, a group she has followed for years and the lead singer and vampire Aric Sutter is someone she is smitten with, but has no idea if he is interested in her as more than a casual friend he sees at his gigs. She soon gets a gig with her partner Finn, a warlock, of a woman who was found behind a bar, drained of all her blood in an obvious vampire killing. As they work late on the case, they go to a nearby restaurant run by her ex, Kerstin, and she is soon told of a famous tasty morsel who has just walked in. That would be Aric and while she tries to avoid him, it doesn’t work as he walks past their alcove. He ends up telling her to come backstage after the show, for the after party and she agrees.

He is off to an event that night and they have been called to the M.E.’s office. Once back at the office, they get back to work until loads of agent’s phones go off, calling them to the huge convention centre, where a fire has broken out. There are apparently loads of paranormals at a charity event there, that have gone into a frenzy trying to escape the fire, through only two exits. The agents have been called in to stop these out of control supes, who are running on base survival instincts, from getting into town and possibly injuring or killing innocents. Gina meets up with Aric again after the fire, something he had also been caught up in, but made it out of safely, unlike Gina who got knocked out by an escaping female vampire, like a rookie! Her fellow agents get him to drive her home, so she can supposedly change and get his statement at the office, so another opportunity for her to be alone with him. The gig is on the Wednesday night following and she enjoys being with Aric again at the after party, but comes across a dead body in the back area, of a fan she recognised. Another strange vampire draining and now Gina is told by her boss to stick with Aric, while investigating the killing at his gig, leaving her getting even closer to her favourite vampire and huge crush!

She has no idea how to handle getting close to him every day, rather than just at a gig, having tried to stay out of any sort of relationship and not wanting to ruin the friendship they seem to have already. There is more behind who Aric actually is and what he may have done in his long past. Gina is supposed to get close to Aric, but still be a professional, which unfortunately causes a few issues as he shows he is interested in her as more than just a friend. Another dead woman is found, drained by a vampire and Aric is linked to the killing, leaving her having to arrest him. She was caught out kissing him on CCTV, which someone sent to her boss. She is taken off the case and told to stay away, but has difficulties with that order when Aric is concerned! She’s falling for this handsome vampire, but she doesn’t know what darkness lies behind his eyes and what he may have done, now or in the past, and she may not really want to know and ruin her connection with him! The book starts off with her problems helping her brother, and then the murder cases, as well as her infatuation with Aric, but the fire was a strange event! The story has a twist to it that you may not see coming and certainly gives a bit of a shock. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

While ICRA Agent Gina Brent is struggling with her brother Dominick’s curse getting worse, troubles continue to mount. She goes to a concert featuring her favorite band which ends up with a murder investigation to be solved. Not knowing her personal history with the vampire lead singer, Aric Sutter, Gina’s boss assigns her to the case. One of his fans was found drained of blood by the backstage door. Working up close with Aric is not healthy for her heart in more ways than one! Is she ready to find out the worst?

I immediately fell in love with this series as we wonder what’s going on with Gina’s visit to her brother and all the evidence we see of attempts to keep something extremely dangerous locked away. The suspense builds from there as Gina is assigned to solve a murder. The characters are engaging and the story line intriguing. The twists and turns along the way as the story unfolds will keep the reader on edge with expectations of the worst possible scenario. The reader will definitely be hooked on this one, wondering who the killer will turn out to be and how Gina will handle what she discovers! Don’t miss this one!

I had to really think about this one. At times it seemed amazing but it was difficult for me to read for a few reasons. The main reason that I wanted to love this was because of the heroine. One of my biggest gripes about women leads is when they ultimately end up needing the man to save them and they’re pretty much useless but I’m supposed to follow them along like some great hero. Gina is anything but this. Basically, she rocks. She was a fighter without all the whiny nonsense involved stereotypically with female leads.

Also, it’s nice to read a novel set in a world where supes and humans are the norm. No one is bothered or weirded out by supernatural beings and there isn’t this weird ‘humans trying to rule the world angle’ or the ‘we have to keep our existence secret from humans’ angle either. Which is as it should be in my mind. Comfortable coexistence with all the nuances and problems associated with it, but without all the overused extras.

My first problem with the book is transitions. In the beginning, I spent a page or two trying to figure out what was going on? Was the lead sick? Did she have a wild night before? Was she simply analysing a situation that didn’t actually involve her? Jumping right into the action is great but it wasn’t clear enough for me to know that Gina was in fact observing a scene and not waking up to one she’d been part of. I guess my problem here is I’m definitely on board with the author being vague about what’s happening but at the very least I shouldn’t be confused for paragraphs if the happenings, happened to the only person I am being introduced to at the moment.

It didn’t stop there though. The scenes in general don’t close well. Like one that stood out for me was there was no resolve to how the scene ended with the brother in the beginning and then we were in a completely different scene like all the emotions and stuff the other scene brought up were just like meh, done with this scene lets be somewhere else and, we aren’t even going to go there because travelling is so passe. Let’s just be here. So one minute the reader is off somewhere talking to a brother, next page we’re walking down the street in a market and I’m here like did the scene end? How did she even get here? Did she say goodbye to her aunts? So many questions and I had the same emotions as when I started reading. It took me a minute and a reread to realise where I’d been placed and take my mind away from the previous scene that didn’t feel like it was over. I got this feeling a lot where the end of a section felt like a cliffhanger and then I found myself in another scene not related to the previous and had to just be like… ‘okay, I guess that was the end of that’, and read on.

The other thing was the nonrelationship. I dunno but I guess I’m over the whole ‘no their obvious flirtations are just them being nice’ plot device. If it’s real it’s real and if it’s not, whatever. No reason to not keep going to concerts and enjoying the situation. Almost like even as adults we’re incapable of just taking things as they are if something else doesn’t pan out. Even if they did go all the way it doesn’t mean they have to automatically be in a relationship or stop the friendship they already have. If it isn’t meant to be then it isn’t, Gina and Aric can still enjoy the ride and move forward without letting it get in the way of things. My first ‘I have to put this book down moment’ was when, right as things were getting steamy, Gina asks “why now”. Really? You’re about to do the do and instead of just doing it you’re posing serious questions. This def could’ve been a nice after we done finished and are putting our clothes back on type of conversation. It took me out of my headspace at the time, made me sigh, roll my eyes and take a moment away from the story.

And lastly, during the fire section, I was a bit confused. In the real world when people panic they don’t magically become murderous, and supes being more powerful and, in my opinion, smarter because animal beings get along much better together in the real world than humans do, I”m baffled as to why supes would just go crazy instead of, I dunno trying to just find the best way to escape a burning forest like creatures in real life? Why would they just up and lose their minds? Going into a flight or fight state to escape is fine. I’m here for that but once you’ve escaped and a safe distance away instinct is to turn around and look at what you just got away from. It’s odd that they’re trying to stop them from running far away into the streets so they don’t harm anyone. Maybe I’m just stupid but it didn’t make sense that escape immediately translates into uncontrollable supes. If that’s the case anything traumatic could set them off so maybe they shouldn’t be allowed to roam freely at all.

So all that said, why three stars? The mystery aspect of this book was amazing. It’s why I kept reading. The hunt for the elusive killer was so much fun to dig into I really wanted to get into this. Just something about the writing lends itself to the fact that most people would probably think this book is five stars worthy. It’s a guestimation but based on the half I did read it seems like that aspect of the story would continue to hold its weight. That and I licked Aric. I mean sexy hot vamp, the only thing wrong with him is that halfway through the book he still had his clothes on and the one chance we had was ruined by random serious conversation. Still, it seems like if I could’ve finished this I definitely would’ve enjoyed the murder investigation aspect of it. I even considered giving it four stars based on this alone. As it stands the awkward transitions, the overused ‘he doesn’t really like me’ angle meshed together with the ‘if we try and fail our friendship is automatically ruined’ stuff was just too much for me to continue. Which is a shame because overall this should’ve been an easy hit for me but no matter my misgivings about it I still believe it will be awesome in the long run for most readers but it just missed the note for me.

Interesting. Goes Nowhere On the Romance

*****Spoilers*****

The book is well written and interesting, the characters are believable, distinguished, and varied, and I liked what the author did with the supernatural and their police force. Aric and Gina, circling one another's orbit for 9 years finally turn to something more maybe. But whatever might've been never got off the ground. From excuses like I need to smoke, and can we get some air, and an ex girlfriend breaking up the party, I was more annoyed than waiting in anticipation of more between the two as they constantly go from hot to ice cold suddenly. Add in a murder investigation that points to Aric, familial curse issues with Gina, and getting to know the setting, I wanted to know what was next but kept my skepticism. Supposedly Aric and Gina are in love with one another but I couldn't see it by action and words are more the I think I am variety than definitive.

My new favorite UF series (currently). I love a good UF series and this one adds some rock star romance and murder mystery to the mix. I strongly suggest reading the prequel - it explains how she joined teh ICRA, met Arik and her family issues. Gina is a kicka** werewolf agent for the ICRA living in Berlin and enjoying her life. Arik is the vampire lead singer for her favorite band that she religiously follows and she has gotten to know him and his bandmates. When humans start turning up dead, drained of blood, Gina's professional life and her personal life get crossed. This is a slow burn romance, no HEA's for this couple yet, that has a ton of tension between the MC"s and ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. I'm glad I found this series after it is finished because I will be going straight to book 2.

“Rock This Wolf” is the first book in the “ICRA: Berlin” urban fantasy series by Gaja J. Kos. An interesting story that blends typical UF tropes (vamps & werewolves) with a procedural plot and the rock music world.

Gina Brent (MC) is a ICRA agent trying to have a good time in her night off, going to a concert by her favorite rock-band seems like a good idea at the moment, just one moment later, a fan of the acclaimed rock star turns up drained up backstage, putting the vampire-front-singer (Aric Sutter) into a very delicate position, to Gina’s despair. Now she is trapped between a rock star and a hard-placed assignment, as her boss insists in her being perfect person to solve the case, despite (or maybe due to) her own connection to the culprit.

This is an enjoyable story that focuses heavily in Gina and Aric pulling all known registers of vampire/werewolf love affair.

A book which makes the longing to visit a concert for real even worse. The words that are describing Gina her feelings when being at a concert brings back so many happy memories.
Gina is an ICRA agent and has a weak spot for years for Aric the singer of her favourite band and now it seems he has it for her too. But every time they are having fun together, just when it is getting really serious something comes up and spoils the mood.
Aric being involved with murder doesn’t help either. But things are weird and Gina can’t let go to do some more investigation even when her boss tells her to let the case over to her colleagues.

Great read about friendship, trust, good concerts, having the hots for a singer, action, investigation, werewolves, vampires and other super naturals.
Definitely looking forward to read more in this series.

This is book 1 of the series and a pretty good start if I may say. I enjoyed the development of the main characters and the female MC is strong and independent and is going to provide some great storyline and drama in the future. She is well defined and interacts great with the other characters in this book. The world building in this book was good. It has me feeling like I as there most of the time experiencing everything with the characters as they moved throughout the story. It pulled me in and held me throughout encouraging me to want to read more. The storyline is a little slow but was picking up towards the end and by the end had me saying when is Book 2 coming out. I am now waiting on Book 2 wondering what is going to happen.

Hard time relating

I wanted to love this book. But I could not relate. The MC was too fan girl. I have never been so distracted by a man that I repeatedly could not function.
I did like her gut instincts, but I wish that when she chooses to go in dangerously situations, she succeeded by herself.

***spoiler****
I did not like the love interest. His words are engaging, but his actions states a different story. I never could understand the idea that’s guy could have sex with one girl and the very next day claim to love someone else. I definitely would doubt that type of love.

I also had a problem with her just now asking her friend for help with an problem she was supposed to have been working on for 10 years. Why is it a secret when I would have told everyone in hopes of a cure for my sibling. But that’s just me.

This story starts with a strong feeling like you should already know all the main characters, probably because this is the first book in a spinoff serie.
The first scene centered on the main character family drama is so off the story that we get confused with the break/transition to the actual story, something that happens in lower degrees through out the story.
As some other readers have pointed out, there are some ideas that could be improved (like the ideia that panic could make supes go crazy long run) and the romance low burn that was taken too much to the extreme. Still, we can go along with those ideas and the fast pace of the action, as well as the drama of trying to find the real killer and clear our prospect lover grab us until the last page.
Looking forward for the rest of the serie.

I read both Fang Deep in the Blues: An ICRA Files: Berlin Prequel and ICRA Files: Berlin (Complete Series), which includes the storyline for Rock This Wolf; it just seems to be a combination of the prequel, Fang Deep in the Blues, and Rock That Vamp, which was in the series boxset.

We get to see how Gina Brent came to ICRA and get a bit more about her family background. We see how the curse from the War manifested in her brother Dominik. It was fun to view Gina's first encounter with the Whiskey Jet Preachers, especially Aric. With drama, action of the supernatural sort, a great host of supernatural-paranormal beings, twists, and lots of family love, this whodunit ends with a shocking revelation through many twists, compelling interactions, and some very close calls.

An action mystery, set in Gaja Kos's special world, a fascinating world created and moulded through several other books in various intertwined series. It's not necessary to have read any other book, previously, but many small details and some characters are better understood if you have.
Not quite a standalone, with a shock ending that shouts its claim for another part of Gina's story, but at the end all the threads of the mystery in this one are tied up and packed into a closed case box on the ICRA shelves.
Great action, intrigue, a hint of romance without actually "doing the deed" (yet...), and nice buildup to more than one conclusion.

This book is the first I’ve read of Gaja J. kos and I like the flow of her writing. The characters are creative and for the most part we developed. There was a few references to characters and or events that I believe are in other books by this author and may have been helpful to have read before this book. My only complaints are that the main character Gina was so flip floppy on her view of Aric it was frustrating. Aric as the main love interest was frustrating to as he seemed so naive and weak for an older vampire? Overall it was good read but I hope the next books develop some character depth and resolve some of the conflicts.

Gina (wolf) has plenty to worry about, her brother Dominik is under a curse and losing his will to battle it. And her Aunts who help keep Dominik safe, will need more money for the protections to keep him from endangering others. She has enough worry with her job as an ICRA Agent, especially now it seems to be drawing her close to her favorite band singer Aric (vampire). Can she find out who's guilty? I enjoyed this steamy paranormal vampire romance, I liked Gina who is a tough cookie (without being too cold), Aric is a hot tempting vampire, and I liked Gina's fellow agent Finn, who is there to help back her up and give her stick. I look forward to what happens next.

Did the famous vampire rock star commit murders?
Gina and her partner are on the case of the women who have been drained of blood and left. And every one of them was recently seen with Aric, Gina’s friend and the man she has a thing for. He’s a famous rocker and fans follow him all over the world. Gina has never done anything about her feelings, believing he thinks of her as just a friend. But after every death when it looks like Aric committed the murder, evidence proves otherwise, until the third murder. Is he really a cold blooded murderer or the man she has gotten to know for the past nine years? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review

This was my first time reading a book from Gaja J. Kos and I have to say that I was definitely not disappointed. Gina is a tough she-wolf agent who is very good at her job and who happens to have a huge crush on the sexy vampire rock star Aric. With an intriguing slow burn romance between Gina and Aric and the exciting mystery they are drawn into I ended up reading the entire book in one day. Combining a well thought out plot with interesting characters and a lot of Rock and Roll with some Rockabilly style made this book something new and interesting to me and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I can't wait for book 2 in the series.

Gina a wolf with family problems who is crazy about Aric a vampire who is a famous rock star who becomes the main focus of a strange death. ICRA is a special unit Gina works for that handles problems of blood draining cases. This is a murder mystery of the paranormal kind and the main suspect is Aric. Gina who has feelings for Aric has to deal with the dual issue of investigating the case against Aric and proving her gut feeling that he is innocent and that someone else may just be the killer. I'm not spoiling this by giving a hint as to who the killer is just know it's an enjoyable read.

I love it when a story has my absolute favourite genre rockstars, bands etc add in the paranormal and you have a story that is bloody fantastic and I definitely will be reading this story again. I loved the characters especially Gina she is such a kick ass ICRA agent who doesn’t need a man to rescue her but when there’s a murder at her favourite bands concert she doesn’t want the case because she has a big crush on the lead singer Aric who is a vampire but nothing is easy for Gina especially when the murder victim has been drained of blood. Fantastic story I loved it and I highly recommend this book.

I was pleasantly surprised with this book. When you've read so many paranormal books they start to feel the same. So it was nice when there were some unexpected twists and turns in this. I didn't know who to trust or believe. The book is a page turner, and I definitely had some hard to put it down moments. I do feel like it was kind of rushed at the end, and I was surprised how it ended... how Aric just left after he proclaimed how much he loved Gina... I didn't like that. Curious what will happen next. I would recommend it.

Old time Rock n roll, A sexy vamp lead singer, a werewolf bureau agent, and a series of murders, what more could you want?
Great world building! I love how the characters in this series blend with characters in other books and series by this author.
The slow burn build up between Gina and Eric is appealing. The variety of supes featured makes the Bureau interesting.
This is the first in a series of three. While they can be read as stand alones, it helps to read in order.
Enjoy! I did!.

"...you can’t base your life on regrets that haven’t happened yet.”

Gina is an ICRA agent working a complicated whodunit which turns messier when her private life comes precariously close to the case.

This done in one book features an interesting world of shifters, vampires and magic, with just the right dash of night clubs, music, and dancing the night away.

With a subplot that was launched in the prequel, and is playing out in the background of the main action, I'm eager to see what case Gina takes on next, and how her fangirling for her favorite band goes.

This series stars ICRA Agent Gina Brent and what happens in her life. I have to say she is having a bad few days with dealing with her brother and his curse, murder cases stacking up that may or may not be connected, facing her feeling for hot Aric and his crossing into her work, and everything else. It was interesting, fun and just drew me in. Had to see who the murderer was and why and if Gina and Aric would get their happy ending after knowing each other so long.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Who doesn’t love vamps, wolves, fae? But make one a detective, and one a singing sensation and we have a winner.
I didn’t waste a minute reading, and I’m glad I was off today. Murder, Mystery, Mayhem, and Magic.
Read the synopsis for the gist of the story, I’m afraid I would give too much away. But read it for yourself and enjoy the ride.

I learnt new words with this book, fangirl and fanfic. Gina fan girls over Aric and his band. This book kept your attention from the beginning to the end, it was a page turner. So much is happening and Gina and Finn have to discover who is killing women before Aric is jailed for something he didn’t do. An excellent read and I would recommend this book to all who like paranormal romance and mystery.
