Zoravar: Bollywood Saga-1 by Maharsh Shah
Genre- Fiction, Bildungsroman
Synopsis- The narrative revolves around Zoravar Cheema, a sixteen year old boy, captivated by the glittering world of Bollywood. The story begins with Zoravar and his family coming to India in 1947 after the partition. The hero's life is a roller coaster ride from being an ordinary boy to becoming a thuggee and then a movie star.
My Take- The cover is stunning!
The book is a page-turner, with chapters ending with a twist. While reading this book, I felt like I was watching an classic old Hindi film. And characters like Suraiyya, Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, etc. add up to the charm. The best thing about this book is the protagonist, who is a multi-dimensional character, learns from his mistakes and most importantly is shown in a light of realism with his feelings, flaws and ups and downs of life. You might feel angry at his actions but you won't be able to hate this guy!
The writing style has that Indian-ness to it, which I absolutely loved. It is fast paced and ends with a cliff-hanger which kept me wanting for more!
Rating- 4.3/5 stars
Recommendation- Highly recommend it to everyone who is 16+ and to all the Bollywood fans out there. If you like "The Guide" by R.K. Narayan, you might like this anti-hero too.

The Razzmatazz and Everything in Between!
Maharsh Shah’s, Zoravar, is a tribute to a national treasure and obsession for country like India, Bollywood.
Zoravar, part 1 of a Bollywood Saga, helps show us how movies help shape lives and how in one’s life, we are capable of living many a movie role in.
Zoravar, is a runaway from home, with little to nothing in his wallet apart from hopes of making it in the Hindi Film Industry.
He lives many a lives, first as a bandit, then as a junior artist before finally getting his break and making it it big as a leading man in Bollywood.
Shah does a fabulous job of capturing the struggle, the never ending hunger and the passion that fuels Zoravar’s life journey to making it amongst Bollywood’s elite and then staying there.
Amidst the backdrop of how Indian cinema transitioned from yesteryear hero’s such as Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand to stars such as Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra and Rishi Kapoor. (Amitabh Bachan being a notable omission here)
Shah also shows the inner workings of Bollywood, the high risk & reward roulette table, that is making sure a movie gets from an idea to the silver screen and the various hurdles it has to clear before ultimately being judged by the masses who are capable of making or breaking it.
Zoravar, the leading man, is a fascinating protagonist, who you’ll find engages the reader in a constant battle of rooting for or rooting against.
He’s charismatic, handsome and cunning. What sets him apart is his clear lack of conscience in order to win big and at all costs.
At the end of the novel, you will clearly have picked a side, this I guarantee you.
There are times, when Shah shows his naivety as a first time author with his writing style.
Chapters feel rushed and there are way to many characters floating in and out of the story, to such a degree that the reader can feel overwhelmed and thus lose interest.
This naivety works to his charm as well, as the writing style is quite simple and never lets you lose track of Zoravar and his quest to make his mark in Bollywood.
Without giving away any spoilers, it is fascinating to see how far Bollywood, Bombay and India has come from the 60’s to the 80’s in the timespan mentioned in the book.
Zoravar is a story that feels surreal, something you could only imagine seeing in a movie and that’s exactly what Maharsh Shah’s debut novel feels like.
Here’s hoping, part 2 will further enhance the story while omitting the mistakes made in part 1.
Also, special shoutout to the people at Harper Collins for arguably one of the best covers a book like this could ask for. If you were to see this in a bookstore, Zoravar would definitely catch your eye.

Zoravar has an engaging storyline, almost as if a movie is unfolding in front of the readers’ eyes. Maharsh has captured a very inherent dream of a common man to be popular, and to be loved by millions and molded it into Zoravar as he struggles to find his footing in the film industry. The plot is well developed, and the storyline moves without hiccups or drops in the pace. Maharsh has also focused on detailing the scenes so that the visual picture is complete, and it can be seen across the book when the events are described. Superimposing his fictional Zoravar with real-life personalities and events can almost make a person think that Zoravar is the story of a real actor, and I think that is the best thing about the story. The language is very relevant to the story and the character, and the author has taken care to insert colloquial words wherever important. The story has set a solid foundation for the books to come, and I am intrigued to see how Zoravar’s journey continues. The point where the book ends is really a cliffhanger.
Coming to the characters, Zoravar’s character arc is quite interesting as it moves up and down as the story proceeds. We see a boy who dreams of becoming an actor, who then falls into the pit of crime, and then rises to again work toward his dream. Even when he gets his first break, we see that the wave of his life continuously bobs up and down. He is sketched in detail, with characteristic mannerisms, and facial expressions. I loved the never-say-never attitude he has; despite the hurdles he faces. Another character that impressed me was that of Pasha, and the importance he places on friendship, and the lengths he goes to help his friend. Loved this action packed drama so much. History of Bollywood was well researched. It was addictive and a delight to read. If I had to summarize it in one word I'll say scandalous. Waiting for the next part....

Zoravar, by Maharsh Shah, is a pacey page-turner and is an immensely entertaining, astute, yet smirky blend of Bollywood fiction. This is one of those books in which you cannot hit an intermission button, and you simply wish that the story must go on. I was just not able to put this book down until I was done on the last page.
The book has been undoubtedly engaging from the beginning to the end. I found the plot to be eccentric. The author has used very comprehensible language, and he has taken all the real-life movie references to make it look real. After reading the book, you would just feel like that there was always a man named Zoravar in the film industry. The insights from the backstage and the greenrooms are explained superbly.
An exquisite and fascinating account of Zoravar filled with spell-binding story-line. This is a highly recommended book that can be enjoyed by all ages.

My husband got this book as a gift from @HTBrunch #BrunchBookChallenge. There were a couple of other books that came in the gift box, but the cover page of Zoravar was the most interesting and I decided to go for it first :)
If you ask me was the book as interesting as its cover was? I would definitely say "IT IS" and it did not disappoint me for sure. It's a fast page-turner and the plot is so intriguing that whenever I was not reading the book, its plot and the characters were constantly on my mind. Reading the book was like watching a Bollywood movie. The first chapter of the book typically resembles a Bollywood movie scene, where Zoravar, the protagonist of this book, is in a hospital bed surrounded by his family, friends, and fans. The writer takes the readers through the life of Zoravar from his childhood days in Lahore to his Bollywood career's ups and downs.
The climax of the first book in the series of the Bollywood saga leaves you with a wanting to read more. It will be interesting to see how the story matures.

With extreme historical accuracy, this book turned out to be a masterpiece for me! The entire story has been so intricately woven that I was totally convinced that Zoravar existed in real life and I ended up googling him!
The book shows bolloywood in all of its true colours - both the luxurious and the fickle nature. Plus, the description of movie sets, shooting and bollywood scandals is a real treat!
Whether you are a bollywood fan or not, I plead you to read this book and I assure you that you too, like me, will get sucked into this mesmerizing world!

This book revolves around Zorawar, the main character of this book.
I got information about the time of Partition and also after the Partition when Bollywood was at its peak.
I really enjoyed reading about Zoravar's journey, from nothing to a star in the film world.
The story is very interesting.
The book is a page turner and hard to put down.
I look forward to the second book of the series.

Set in the backdrop when Dilip Kumar managed hearts and Dev Anand was another honey bee, the story is an extraordinary adventure of a young fellow whose life bends in exciting roads, driving him to his fantasy work; being a stage artist in Mumbai.
The story starts with Zoravar's family enduring the abhorrence of partition followed by their re-establishment. A family restored, managing monetary strains would never stand to send their kid from a little locale considered Phagwara to Bombay, the city of dreams.
Sadly, he gets outlined by a hooligan and starts working under him accordingly drenched in the existence of wrongdoing. Among amazing entertainers like Raj Kapoor, Madhubala, Nargis and Meena Kumari the writer returns us to motion pictures like Mughal-e-Azam, Devdas, Mother India, Shree 420 and so on. Zoravar attempts his karma in misusing different types of films in his full limit as an entertainer, however winds up conveying awful enactment in certain genres.
Despite the fact that the plot was a bit antique on occasion, however, the writer has utilized truly intelligible language, and he has taken all the genuine film references to make it look real. I absolutely loved reading this book. Sometimes I got so attracted that I couldn't put aside the book for a moment (definitely a page turner). You'll see the true colours of old Indian cinema. Although the book is a work of fiction but some real incidents and events have been used as a backdrop, which makes it hard to believe that Zoravar is a fictional character. Kudos to the author for the effort he has put into the research and detailing. I feel the writing style and the descriptive narration of the story is just perfect. And just have a look at the cover, how captivating it is. The book definitely transports readers to a different era. Overall the book was amazing and held my interest from the beginning to the end and I'm eagerly waiting for the next part. So I definitely recommend it to everyone and anyone. You won't be disappointed.

Set in the post-independence period, this story is about Zoravar Cheema, a Sikh-Pashtun. Zoravar is passionate about Cinema and wishes to become an actor. Owing to the tragic events of 1947, Zoravar and his family fled to Phagwara from Lahore. On reaching Phagwara, he decides to leave his family and go to Bombay so that he can fulfill his wishes. But before he could visit Bombay, he got framed by one of the most-wanted thugs in the country, Sultana. Thus, in this way, Zoravar got involved in criminal activities. However, one day, he managed to escape the clutches of the thug and ran away to Bombay.
Zoravar’s journey in Bombay is altogether a different story. The author has displayed the kind of struggles a junior actor has to go through before he gets his first break. Set in the 1940's Zoravar a young Sikh lad is forced to flee from Lahore to Phagwara along with his family during the 1947 riots. Its here he decides to go to the city of dreams Bombay to realise his dream of making it big on the silver screen. The journey from rags to riches despite the challenges thrown at him by destiny forms the story.

The novel is an unputdownable page turner that ends with a cliffhanger which leaves the reader eagerly looking forward for the next book in the series.
Overall the journey of Zoravar from street to the silver screen is a Blockbuster in a book which gives the reader a cinematic experience......

Zoravar is biographical account of the man who dreamt of adorning the big screen and how he went on to make his dreams come true in the Maximum City. At first look Zoravar sounds like a real-life character, though he is a fictional one who is modeled very close to famous Bollywood Superstars. The current Book one in the series starts with Zoravar recounting his childhood days, his teenage years spent travelling to Amritsar to watch a movie show, his unexpected life as a thug, days in Bombay struggling to land one movie chance, before turning into a superstar.
The cover of the book is very well-designed and looks exactly like a yesteryear movie poster, and makes the reader pick it immediately. The reference to things from the past will make the reader nostalgic, especially the daily items used few decades ago, which are almost extinct now. The story being set in an era gone-by is the USP — with a mix of fictional characters and real Hindi film industry personalities. While most of the current generation wouldn’t be aware of actors and directors from the early 1950s, the book will create curiosity in the reader to know more about them.
The author also weaves major incidents from the country’s history into Zoravar’s life — families relocating amidst Partition, post-independence India and towards the end, the story reaches the point when Emergency was imposed in the 80s. The book is an absolute delight for movie buffs as the end-to-end lifecycle of movie making, life on a movie set, dynamics of movie making and everything that happens behind the screen are well narrated.
Along with movie making, the story also captures the struggle of someone trying to get an opportunity, even more than 50 years ago, when the competition was comparatively low. There is an interesting parallel story thread of smuggling in Bombay. However, the story drags at places trying to get too much into detail of Zoravar’s life, slowing down the pace of the book. Also, some characters could have been developed as their presence is relegated to miniscule importance.
For an ambitious story and the grandeur expected for such a story setup, the author does justice by bringing to life Zoravar’s character. Pick this one for a vibrant and versatile story which will take the reader on a joy ride.

Zoravar is an utterly sincere and a totally unabashed tribute to the world of Bollywood - the Hindi film industry - by the self-confessed film-devotee, Maharsh Shah! It is the story of Zoravar Cheema, who dreams of becoming a Hindi film superstar right from his boyhood in the turmoiled times of the Partition of India, circa 1947, and achieves it through a lot of grit, determination and resourcefulness. It is also the history of the dreamworld of Hindi cinema beginning from the 1940s, brimful with the details of all the films, events and people that are worth knowing about.
The plot of Zoravar reads like the screenplay of a Masala Bollywood entertainer with a handsome hero who forges through against all adversities, including a tonne of sheer bad-luck, and fulfils his dreams. He is unapologetically focussed on his goal and is prepared to do whatever it takes to reach it. He also has an underlying goodness in his heart that endears him to people both on and off the pages of the book. The other characters that populate this story are quite well drawn too. But what makes Zoravar special from being essentially an ordinary, shallow, albeit interesting, story is the way Shah blends well-researched history of the film-world with the evolution of his own hero. For any reader who is interested in movies, this book is a treasure-trove of juicy trivia about their favourite films and film-stars and directors, and film-making in general.
There are places where one may feel that the author has gone a bit overboard with the trivia though, but that can be excusably attributed to the his enthusiasm for the thing he loves. I have another complaint - about the cliff-hanger ending that makes the reader wait for the sequel of which there is no news as yet. It will come when it will come and, for the present, I am glad to have read this one!

Zoravar was a gritty, dramatic pulp fiction book set in the dazzling bollywood era post independence. It is everything cinema. The book is essentially about the rise and the fall of Zoravar. How fickle is popularity and the winds of favour are never in the same place for too long.
The narration had multiple POVs. The language was lucid. The writing style was articulate. The plot was bit cliche at times. The book could have been more fast paced and shorter. The story was about Zoravar who was a young man with an affinity for the movies. He spent all his free time in the theatre. He hoped to make it big in Bombay. He had the looks for it.
Due to some unfortunate events he gets into criminal activities and his dream is kept on hold. But fate seems to have different plans for him. He swerves in so many different directions but cinema is where he lands. He starts off small but he grows with time. But does his past catch up with him? Read to find out.
The ending was a cliffhanger and there is part 2 of the book coming soon. I would recommend this book to all fans of Bollywood.

The book is a masterpiece. I read it in 2 days. It is quite unputdownable. It describes the excruciating journey of a man from the pits to the pinnacle of glory in Bollywood. In addition, the book gives us a realistic picture of what it takes to survive in Bollywood and be successful.

made this read a complete manuscript for a blockbuster movie.
I am amazed & applaud the author for his content & a keen eye for every minute detail.

I love books that take me on a journey to the murky memories. Memories, oh so beautiful memories I had forgotten about until now. All I needed was a turn of a page and it all came rushing back. My love for Bollywood and it’s drama. And the bollywood magazines, how I used to devour them. Watch every news that had Bollywood mentioned in it.
Where has that Neelam gone now, I wonder?
I thank you, Maharsh Shah, for writing Zoravar, a novel based on Bollywood and it’s many dramas. It was a much needed one.
Zoravar by Maharsh Shah is the first book in the Bollywood Saga. It is the story of Zoravar Cheema whose family decides to stay in India after partition. Young Zoravar is fascinated by the Bollywood and dreams of being on the big screen.
Hailing from a poor family and after facing a lot of struggles, he somehow makes it to Mumbai. As we all are well aware of, the city is not so easy to survive in. The struggle continues and Zoravar gets caught up in the vicious cycle of ambition, desire, failure and the Mafias. That’s Bollywood for you.
The book depicts the post-partition movie-industry scenario in a very detailed way. There are mentions of Bollywood legends like Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor and such. Kind of made me hungry for old movies again. Once upon a time they used to be my staple food. I used to consume movies like breathing air; watching 3 movies a day. Ah, memories.
Zoravar manages to show the reality of the film-industry, good and bad alike. It also tells the histories about some famous magazines and filmfare awards. There are the dark secrets of the underworld and the struggle one has to go through to reach on the top.
Zoravar is written really well with a gripping narrative. Movie-buffs will most definitely love reading it. Though, according to me, such books should be a little shorter in length. It was a nice, enjoyable read. I am really excited about the 2nd book in the series as this one ended in a cliffhanger. I applaud the author for this unique book and wish him all the best for the next!

9th Book of 2023
As I had shared in my previous book review, I am just quite excited about reading fiction these days. Basically, those which I have in my shelf since months and I haven’t been able to pick up them due to other books in pipeline. Last weekend, I picked “Zoravar” written by Maharsh Shah. The story is part of the series called “Bollywood Saga” wherein this is just the first book. I am quite curious now as the book was released in 2020 and there’s no Part 2 yet. As I am done reading this exciting 330-pages book, I really want to know what happens further in the story of the incredible protagonist – Zoravar. The book is written in third voice which talks about the journey of a boy named Zoravar who comes to Mumbai running away from a dark past to become an actor. From here onwards, book talks about Zoravar’s whole journey from being a teenager to becoming a Superstar in the world of Bollywood.
Talking about the writing style, Maharsh Shah is an artist. It has been written in such a unique style that despite it being a fictional story, you get the vibes of reading a biographical account of a Superstar’s journey. All of us are infatuated with Bollywood and Hindi film industry hence this book covers all the aspects so stylishly that you feel as if you are in the same world as those Superstars walking around in the era of 1950 to 1980. The way author has been able to present story of those times making every detailing sound realistic is applaudable. Talking about the characters – book starts describing a lot of them which made me scared of remembering so many names but eventually, it boils down to only 3-4 specific characters which makes the reading experience easier.
You also get to read a lot of real names from Bollywood such as Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Suraiyya, Nutan, Sanjay Dutt, Guru Dutt, Yash Chopra etc. and it is very exciting to imagine how author must have taken out real incidents from past and made his fictional superstar fit into the scenes and timeline. I have read something of this kind for the very first time. The treatment given to the character of Zoravar is commendable as he has so many shades and layer to him – times when he is vulnerable – times when he is dangerous himself – ambitious – daring – competitive – selfish – egoistic- family man – connection with wrong people etc.
Author also tries to cover city’s smuggling and mafia background which is so intelligently paralleled with this story. How the hawala’s money gets rolled into Bollywood is indirectly thrown a light upon. Several other aspects on how getting into the industry as an actor is a challenge since 1950 is conveyed very intelligently. How the nepotism has taken its root right since then is exposed. The behind-the-scenes, references, casting couch, shooting etc. has been covered very well.
Even though the book is 340-pages, it keeps you interested and captivated throughout. Not even once do you feel bored. The best thing would be to read it in breaks. I read 60 pages daily which gave me the feeling of watching a web-series. There is so much that keeps on happening in the journey of Zoravar that there’s a twist after every few pages. Author’s love for cinema is evident with the fact that he has been able to quote every studio and their creation date correctly. His research on the topic before beginning to write this book is visible in every page.
Talking about the few drawbacks – as the protagonist has a dark past, I was expecting it to return back post his success in a very outstanding setup which would make the reader in me jump off the bed but there’s nothing like that. Something sort of it happens in pre-climax but it’s written in such a rush that you don’t feel any emotion for it. Maybe, author must have planned it for future parts. Secondly, the other characters could have been given a good inclusion in the story but all of them are not even in supporting role but just small multiple cameos. Lastly, a lot could have been done if there were conversations mentioned whenever characters met with each other but author has used it very minimally. It is written more in narration-form than conversational format.
Except few points mentioned above, the book is a wonderful rollercoaster ride and you will enjoy reading it. It is a perfect page-turner and nostalgic for all the movie lovers. I give this book 4.5 stars out of 5 – undoubtedly. Awaiting Part 2 now!

Zoravar, a Sikh-Pashtun, born to Sardar Attar Singh Cheema and Bibi Benazir in Lahore, loves movies more than anything in this world. ZORAVAR had already decided his future, that he will go to bombay and become an actor.
The story set in the post independence period starts with partition scenes where Zoravar and his family moves from Lahore to Paghwara. ZORAVAR clearly not happy with Phagwara decides to escape to bombay and become an actor. Unfortunately he gets framed by a thug and starts working under him thereby immersed in the life of crime. But one day he manages to escape and flees to bombay where he succeeds in becoming a movie star.
#review - The book goes on to narrate how from a criminal, Zoravar becomes an actor....his struggles before and after becoming an actor. The author has weaved the story around the Golden era of Hindi Cinema ie during the 1950s... the times of Dilip Kumar , Dev Anand , Raj Kapoor, Madhubala, Nargis, Meena Kumari, Suraiya.
The author has deftly described the character that rang very true and not even once I felt that ZORAVAR is a fictional character. I also went forward and Googled it.. Silly me 🤣🙈 The narration is impactful and fast paced that will keep you hooked till the end and the ending will leave you wanting for more and I seriously cant wait for the next part. Yes, the book doesn't ends here, there's a next part. In fact it's a trilogy.
It was a memorable read for me and I totally recommend it.

The author has deftly described the character that rang very true and not even once I felt that ZORAVAR is a fictional character. I also went forward and Googled it.. Silly me 🤣🙈 The narration is impactful and fast paced that will keep you hooked till the end and the ending will leave you wanting for more and I seriously cant wait for the next part. Yes, the book doesn't ends here, there's a next part. In fact it's a trilogy.
It was a memorable read for me and I totally recommend it.

This is the first book in the bollywood saga series by the author. Set in 1940s, it is based on the life of a boy called Zoravar Cheema, who gets smitten by hindi cinema and leaves no stone unturned to set foot in the bollywood industry.
The cover of this book will set your mood right for the roller coaster ride of a bollywood superstar. The writing is impeccable and narration is dramatic and intriguing (just like a good hindi movie!). The author has used all the real movies references to weave an entertaining story of the protagonist. He seamlessly fits a fictional character in the golden era of Bollywood, where he shares space with veterans like Kishore Kumar, Dilip Kumar among others. While reading this book, i am sure you will be bound to think at some point - is this character real? This portrays the author's immense love and knowledge of hindi cinema. He has also good understanding of the film production business, as evident from the intricate details of the same in the story. I am a crazy fan of movies. I like the action, drama, comedy and everything that good movies bring with them. I feel a sense of connection when a movie with a great motive comes into action.
This book follows the journey of Zoravar Cheema who has grown up being fascinated by the magic of Hindi cinema. He wants to be a movie star but has no guidance or real direction. He has decided to leave the family and leave for Bombay, the city of dreams and make his name there. Will he succeed?
The book begins in 1945 which is a pre-partition period. I was expecting some effect of 1947 ( when the partition of India and Pakistan takes place ) on Zoravar and his journey but the book doesn't give many glimpses of that.
Zoravar struggles to make his name in the Bollywood industry but it is not easy as it sounds. Throughout his journey, he struggles heavily. He is not an easily likeable character. I didn't like the character of Zoravar even though he is the main hero of this book but I liked the book so I guess that makes sense. You can like a book but not the characters in it sometimes.
Zoravar's character can give you mixed feelings about his personality. Read this book to know his journey from Rags to Riches.
From the beginning, I was engrossed in the book because of the smooth and commendable writing style of the author. Everyone can read this book because it is designed just like that. It is a wonderful story that depicts the ups and downs of every person chasing their dreams. As the book is about becoming a movie star in Bollywood, the plot of the book often looks dramatic which doesn't seem to fit in the reality.
If you are a fan of Bollywood movies and you have some knowledge about actors of that time then you should give this a read. It is simple and entertaining just like a good movie. Moreover, I enjoyed how the book is divided into several parts and how beautifully they are titled. Go for it.

"Zoravar", is an extremely amazing and roller coaster story written by Maharsh Shah. The plot of the story is intriguing and gripping that keeps the reader hooked till the end of the book.

Zoravar, a typical hindi cinema hero and a Bollywood saga who was born during the India Pakistan partition era. He went through the stress of blood-strain human movement to and fro India and Pakistan, family turmoil, lived an abandoned life of a convicted criminal. One thing he was determined was to reach Bombay at any cost.
Zoravar travelled a long journey from Lahore to Bombay in years and distance to reach his final destination, he knew his life was going to change and change for better. He was sure that he had left behind the worst years of his life but did he know his decision was right or wrong?
This is a enchanting story of a swing and shift of a superstar in the Hindi Cinema world very well written by Maharsh Shah who rightly quoted it as ‘ a book and character you won’t forget easily’. His imprints left an emotional turbulence in my mind. I was not reading but actually watching a real life movie with a lead actor Zoravar as the writing is so visual imaginary. It took me a couple of days to finish it as I was in no rush and wanted to enjoy each and every moment of it.
It’s a much recommended read and really enjoyed every bit of it.

Shahrukh Khan once in his famous blockbuster Om Shanti Om said “Agar kissi cheez ko shiddat se chaaho toh poori Kainaat tumhe usse milvaane ki saazish karti hai.” That's what this book is about. It makes you want to believe so hard in fate, destiny, magic and tragedy. I first thought that probably the author comes from a family of bollywood legacy only to find in his author's note that he's one of us. A fanboy. Someone who grew up watching or devouring every piece of cinema that was not just limited to stars but everything and every little detail behind the scenes; something that makes a movie a cinematic experience!
Wow! What a story. And the way all characters fictitious and non-fictitious swirl around the main protagonist who make and break his life, it's actually like one's life is amalgamated in a movie and printed in words. It is truly an experience to read a story so descriptive yet so gripping and so entertaining. You love Zoravar and then you hate him and then you sympathize with him. Cannot wait for the next part to come out ! ❤️

Entertaining and engaging read for the old Bollywood cinephiles.
This is a story of a superstar from his days as a sixteen year old movie buff to entering the world of post-independence dacoits and criminals. His courageous escape from the criminal world to struggling to make a breakthrough in Hindi cinema.The glittery and the shady world of cinema is well depicted in the book. His walk of fame and difficulties to hold on to his dream.
Zoravar's strong hatred and dislike for the revered Bollywood star Dilip Kumar and the Devdas movie angle is a delight to read.
Although the book is narrated through the eyes and mind of a fictional character, the events and the people around him are real which makes the book lively. I liked how the behind the reels persona of actors like Dev Anand, Suraiya, Raj Kapoor, Kishore Kumar are incorporated within the story. The research and knowledge of the author about the 50's and 60's Hindi cinema is applaudable.
Love the cover illustration reminds one of the vintage hand painted Bollywood posters.

From his teenage days, Zoravar Cheema is a huge fan of Bollywood movies and aspires to be a movie star one day. With no support from his family and no financial support, his one act of bravery makes him a convict on the run. Though his dream of pursuing a career in the film industry is spoilt, he doesn't give up and his wit soon takes him to the streets of Bombay. But he is ignorant of the fact that his real struggle starts there.
