3/5 for being a decent book, but I personally did not like it.
book 6 chapter 15, which is really ~300/850 chapters (series is complete)
Despite my annoyances with this book I understand that it is actually decent at what it sets out to do, and so I give this book 3 stars instead of the usual 1 star I give to disliked books.

Characters: 2/5 okay
The characters are the usual 1d characters. People compare this to normal books, but honestly the main character is still a xianxia main character in the end. He's some bum from earth transmigrated. All he does is try to 'do the right thing' and what makes him special and is continually mentioned is that he "has a different perspective" because he comes from earth. The frequency with which this is mentioned and the utter un-specialness of it really gets under my skin. I came to Chinese novels to avoid the Japanese NEETs who suddenly were SuperCoolOPGamers(tm) but somehow this main character seems to fall into that too. I don't rate this one star because my expectations for xianxia are so low anyway that it's not too much of a problem.

World: 1.5/5
They think they are Tolkien or something. If I need a map to understand where things are in my xianxia, something is wrong. There is no intuitive sense for geography, and that is bad. I unironically prefer worlds with four continents named after the cardinal directions. I hate not knowing where the mc is while he moves around. Distances are all relative. Instead of establishing a memorable geographical framework, the book says 'x is y days travel away from z' and expects me to triangulate the positions so that I can draw a map on graph paper or something. I read to relax.

Story: 3/5 in quality and 1/5 because I disliked it.
I don't read xianxia for boring story. I don't want to hear about the main character slowly working their way up from minor 10th rank government official to major 10th rank. That took a whole 30 chapters, which is several percent of the novel. I'm a third of the way through and the main character is . Is this even xianxia? Am I just reading the wrong book? What immortal devils, this is clearly politics reskinned...
Anyway, I'm not all about memorizing the names of minor officials so I can follow plot that is meaningless. This is some strange xianxia. It's almost like slice of life. It isn't as repetitive as normal xianxia, but at the same time everything the main character does is so dry and boring that I like it less than cookie cutter 'beat up young masters in a row' stories.

~sigh~

My tastes are so warped. I need to reduce my workload so that I have the energy to appreciate proper literature and not these trashnovels that I love. Oh well..

It was a loooooonnggg novel. On top of that, it's slow burn as hell. But I enjoyed it nonetheless.

It's a wuxia xianxia novel which gives the vibe of Miao Ni's Joy of life (one of my favorites). Especially the main character, Lin Xi and Fan Xian have so many things in common but there are obvious differences also present.

Lin Xi, the male lead, is mischievous, hardworking and even childish at times. He is also surprisingly monogamous among the herd of heroes with harem. He even pursued his wife and true, that there were second female leads and even potential third female leads who had incredible chemistry with him, ultimately he stuck out for his only love.

However, whoever said that this ML is op, is lying. Cause, no. He may have op golden finger but he was NOT op. This mf gave me so much anxiety that I had to quit reading multiple times.

This novel in a whole made me angsty. So many characters I liked died and the characters I hated stuck it out till the last book.

Many may have sympathy for Zhang Ping. And yeah, I can understand his emotions. The things he went through was inhumane. If he only wanted to kill Lin Xi, instead of wanting to rule the world, I may even pity him. But this asshat doesn't deserve any of it. In the end, Xu Shengmo gave his last spitting of facts. Zhang Ping loved himself more, his love for Qin Xiyue is laughable and even more doubtful. His self-inferiority could be traced back to the first encounter in Summer Spirit Lake and this is also the same thing that drove his downfall. He didn't even have any regret after killing his friends so no, he deserved to die. And die that he did.

Gao Yanan was great, though she took a backseat many times (I think it was inevitable as Lin Xi IS the main character after all). I also admired Meng Bai, his character development was painful but satisfying. I so wanted Changsun Wujiang to have a long-lasting friendship with Lin Xi, but alas! Nangong Weiyang was another weird character, in a good way. Xu Shengmo should demand for the million silver that someone owed him, though.

Until the last segment, I still wasn't sure of Qin Xiyue's feelings towards Lin Xi. Despite Lin Xi's completely platonic feelings for her, the walk towards Purgatory Mountain scene made me feel bittersweet. For the first time in a long time, I truly felt second female lead syndrome.

There are so many arcs. Some I liked more than the others. The author can be quite descriptive at times and he can go on and on and on. With sufficient editing, I believe the novel would become even better. I had to skim through some paragraphs because in an intense scene, the author would focus on unnecessary things often.

But, the complexity of the plot made it all worth it. Every character had their own will and personality. Lin Xi, alone, was not op but with his friend's help he conquered subsequent battles. It may go for an optimistic view towards life and the world. In this case, however, I liked it very much. It showed the ugliness of humanity but also the kindness and beauty of the world. Life is truly like a mirror.

Unique Chinese Cultivation Novel, stands out from its peer by havng multiple POV and logical storytelling.

The translated is good, the story is a slow burn, having a mixture of Xianxia, Supernatural, Adventure, Fantasy, Action, School Life, Comedy, Kingdom building and Romance elements. The characters are fleshed out with appropriate emotions and inerplay.

This is not your typical chinese novel with face slapping, over power main leads or harem, this felt like what a proper published fanatsy novel from west might be like. So my guess is the author is a full time writter insted of a fresher trying his hands on writting a book.

My only two gripe with the book was too many characters and all with chinese names are difficult to remember. And the Book should have ended on Volume 15 and not added the extra Volume 16, I just didnt enjoy the twist.

It is a good novel, a bit underrated , it is really diffrent from your typical chinese novel and had real emotions , you simpathize with the characters , a got a bit annoyed that lin xi will not get out of the country and explore and the whole novel has this one conspirarcy that will not get solved until the end of the novel and where is the rest of the countries in the world i didnt want the author to restrict the novel with just four countries , and the ending i want to facepalm really , but you can see it coming no one can come out of such a trauma and be sane again , damn it i mean about zhan ping , but i really didnt want it to happen , and cant read it anymore ,and in my opinion it was quiet short and rushed

In many ways a typical xianxia story, though one set in a more medieval themed setting and so far at least without the planet throwing levels of power common in the genre. Which combined with the quick progression of the plot and the generally not totally one dimensional characters makes this sadly on of the more better xianxia stories out there though in my opinion it lacks the elements that for example made AWE, ISSTH or World of Cultivation entertaining and worth sticking with for millions of words.

The pace of the novel is very slow. It sometimes has straineous bits and then again some captivating bits. Unfortunately, the captivating bits are not good enough to outweight the boring ones in my opinion.
