Selling St Christopher by Sven Hughes is a political spy drama. It follows Clemency a disgraced spy who is called back to investigate an seemingly unimportant death of a MP but which turns out to be part of a greater conspiracy that threatens the balance of the world.
A story that has many twists and turns and a conspiracy that is so unbelievable that it is very believable and that is the strength of this story Greedy people who will do anything to earn money earn compromise the security of their own country, corrupt politicians who facilitate these people .
A good paced story that keeps the reader glued.
Some backstories though could have given an edge to the story and cleared up the confusion ay yhr beginning of the plot. But as the plot thickens the intrigue and treachery and twists are revealed the story becomes gripping.
Thanks @Booktasters for this book

A first Spy thriller novel for me and I am sold! It kept me on my toes, I was thrilled by the suspension through chapters and looked forward to see how events unfolded with every chapter! I had a an adrenaline rush, it was like watching a good spy movie and didn't want to move from your seat!
The novel is about a fallen Spy who was brought back to redeem herself by investigating the death of a British MP, St Christopher, as well as expose dirty politics that was going on. The Spy, Clemency goes on this mission with very little to work with but a small team from her secret investigating agency ! It wasn't an easy mission as their cover kept being blown through clashing with the national security agents! Doubt even crept in! At the brink of quiting, Clemency and her team pick pieces of information that assures them that they could cleanly execute the mission by roping in the opposition political leader! They partially succeed in their mission through exposing the ruling party at a lavish rally that was organized to lure voters and expose the opposition leader instead! Chaos breaks and leaves Clemency looking death in the eye!! Will Clem and her team be successful or the strong intimidating national security win? 🤔 Hmm! Find out by getting yourself a copy! As for me, I greatly enjoyed the writing style! I was thrilled and love it!

I started reading this book with mixed emotions. I wasn’t sure if I would like it. I soon realized I was wrong. The story is set in the island of St. Christopher. It started with the murder of a member of the parliament as he is leaving for the day. He is killed while crossing the street. The case is handled by clemmie an agent who job is find a way to quickly and quietly get to the bottom of the murder. Before she can get started, she has to assemble a team to help her with the work. This is my first book by Sven Hughes. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a great book like this. It reminds me of the “Camel club by James Baldacci. On a scale of one through five, this is a five for sure. I look forward to seeing more of this series.

Thrilling. That's the only way I can describe this book. Sven has done an impressive job with such an edgy storyline, there was always a flurry of events going on; never a dull moment.
The story was filled with action, suspense, political drama, uncertainty and the anticipation of what NEXT!! Also how can I forget the beauty of Caribbean Islands ;)

Author has written remarkable characters especially their outstanding team work and their passion towards the mission.

All in all thank you booktasters for having me read this thrilling adventure. To all the lovers of murder mystery with backdrop of political drama; go for it, you won't regret!!

A really impressive read and incredibly difficult to put down! The story has many unexpected twists and turns, constantly keeping you second guessing everyone and everything. It’s a well written look at power in the modern world, and very engaging. Personally, the way the story has sections of true thriller style - page turning & nail biting - contrasts exceptionally against the calmer periods, and draws you in perfectly. The fluctuation in intensity, particularly the stories next to the lake, means you don’t experience the emotional burn out of some thriller novels. This works to humanise the characters, drawing you in not only through the overarching storyline, but in your emotional investment in the well-being and journeys of them.

This is a very entertaining and intelligent update to the spy thriller. Told with a concise, page turning energy, Hughes produces engaging characters that I would love to read more of, working in a dangerous but recognisable environment. His world building matches his careful character building and you will feel the heat of the setting in the later stages in the book. All in all a terrific first work of fiction that I highly recommend

Most likely to be adapted into a box office hit movie in my opinion. The storyline was flawless and unambiguous. Descriptions were a bit too detailed. The heroine had a relatable character which made following her story even more intriguing.

The ending was exhilarating to say the least.

I'd recommend this book to anyone that wants to read anything about power play between third world and western countries.

Apart from the strong storyline, fast pace and twists there was a particular formatting style which I liked and which made the book an even easier read: the use of very short paragraphs of mostly just one or two sentences - makes for very clear, focused and comfortable reading. Well done Sven!

3.5/5. This novel is close in the tradition with the climax at the end and with an assertive writing. I had to make an effort to pass the half but the couple of final scenes and their dialogues deserve it. Good debut. Thanks to Sven and booktasters.

Selling St. Christopher is a story about spies, political intrigues, blackmail, bribery, corruption.. so realistically told that one can almost think that the story is based on real life.

The plot is full of surprises and unexpected turns of events. It is fast-paced, thrilling, entertaining, and interesting. It is a story that is well told, detailed, and educative in some parts. It is indeed a page-turner.

The number and diversity of characters in the story is apt — not too few and not too many. The uniqueness of every character comes through clearly as well. The dialogue between the characters is natural and flowing.

I like the description of every scene, place and event, which is quite vivid to the reader. The changing from scene to scene was nicely done, making the story flow satisfactorily for the reader. Also, the paragraphs and chapters in the book are a good length — not too long to tire the reader and not too short.

How the author took the setting of the story from London to St. Kitts, was so smoothly done that I could hardly notice the transition. Made me want to take an actual quick trip to those Caribbean islands.

The book is a great spy thriller, I enjoyed every bit of it. It is a great first book for Sven. Good job!

This novel is not the typical James Bond spy novel, but it sure will keep you attached.
Clemmie is a secret agent, who is given a new assignment to find a killer, but that put her in confrontation with huge evil.

With a troubled past, she works her best to forget her pain, and do what it takes.

Leading a team of young and promising agents, Louise and Stig, and with little evidences, they start their mission to find out who killed MP Stephen and why.

The search leads them to the killer Gabriel, a cold-blooded assassin, but he is not alone. He is part of a huge evil company called Manifesto, a company that is working in the shadows to shape the world by controlling politics.

The team flew to St. Kitts in the Caribbean and with no help, and getting targeted in every turn by Manifesto employees and the island authorities, they do their best to expose this evil company.

Really enjoyed reading this novel and I think the author did an excellent work, so much details that made the novel real and impressive characters.

I liked that the main character is a female, and getting to feel her pain and her struggle.

I think the author did very well creating this novel, and want to thank him and @Booktasters on Twitter for allowing me to read it

A really good read. It’s a mixture of some great ‘classic spy’ elements (an agent brought back in for a special assignment, a small team on the mission) and some very modern and timely parts to the story (dark money on politics, offshore tax havens and passports for sale). The main larger theme is the clash between national security and the unfettered capitalism that has no morals about what business is done and with whom. What could be more relevant as we discover anti-elitist elites, national sovereignty causes being used by big business and big money, and realise the dangers of a world where money is globalised but laws are not.
