I absolutely love the protagonist of this webnovel. Smart, cunning, devious and sometimes absolutely evil when necessary. She's an absolute badass. The Male Lead is amazing too.
Does reading webtoons really count as reading...? whatever... anything to pad my books-read-in-a-year number back to 100... :' ) To be clear, my standards for webtoons are lower than my standards for books; however, I very VERY appreciate how the mc barely speaks, and doesn't rise to the bait.
1. Rebirth story. Kingmaker/Spymaster/Sister of an emperor is framed and disgraced and tortured by him after she orchestrates his ascent to the throne. Shortly before she dies she conducts a sacrificial ritual which results (to her surprise) in her going back to her body from a while ago. She then proceeds to change how things are going to be, with well-applied manipulations and orchestrations.
2. I know this is a common plot, but this version is really interesting. For one thing, the heroine is not insipid (as is often the case). She's clearly very smart and very good at making people dance like puppets to whatever she wants in a very ends-justify-the-means way. In contrast, the love interest is a sweetheart who is honorable and kind and also kindof in love with the woman who convinced him that marrying her would be politically expedient it is adorable.
3. The heroine's abusive family and how their behaviour contributes to the kind of person she is is also pretty cool. Especially the mom. The mom is a character who is both detestable and pitiable it's great. I love how all the internal royal murders and plots and machinations play out, and I'm rooting for the downfall of the asshole family. I do kinda hope they put up a better fight once they realize what's afoot though.
4. As always, we are only partly through the story and so there's only so much I can say but I definitely want to read more.
the story started strong haha.. it took me a moment to understand who the names belonged to and what was going on. i have to say, the manhwa does not make this novel justice. so many thoughts were skipped. and i honestly wanted to see more blood in the first chapter bc it was truly violent. ok ok but this is really good. please read it. it has 304 chapters and ongoing extras. Artizea is a true schemer who thinks the ends justify the means. she's caused war and famine just to get her ungrateful brother on the throne. i hate her mother so f-ing much aaahhhh. why would you tell your 10 y/o daughter to lose weight cuz she's a bit fat?? i feel so bad for Tia cuz she developed and inferiority complex and an eating disorder. i've read ahead and i'm so glad that she's doing much better now.
this first book ends with Lawrence coming home after his meeting with Tia when she tells him that he should try to gain favor from the empress and that she's breaking ties with their mother.

I have to say how much I love the fact that this comic has a really hard and cruel beginning. Tia was created tô basically live by her brother, helping him to ascend to the throne.
However, after he reaches his goals, and she decides to stop all the wrongdoing and just live her life until the end after a tragedy, he decided that she is no longer useful and a threat to his power.
So after suffering a lot of torture, she gets back in time, 10 years prior to the chaos and decide to change the story.
Becoming the sweet female lead that we all expected? No.
But making that the man that she deceived and caused a lot of pain in the past, become the emperor.
Tia and Cedric get married under the pretense to giving her freedom from her crazy mother, but the way their relationship develops, it's so sweet that seeing her discovering what is being loved and love other person made my heart flutter.
okay so I can't find the listing for the webtoon version of this so I'm using the light novel (which I would love to read by the way. Need to find a translation for it) Still this is one of the better webtoons I've come across, and I hate politics but I'm so intrigued by our MC and her plotting. Not to mention the artwork is wonderful. the story gets dark in places, but I'm totally invested now, and want to know what happens. almost done with season 3
Highly recommended if you like political/court intrigue. This series has one of the most intelligent main characters in the otome isekai and villainess genres. She is motivated, capable and proactive, not least because of her family.
A bonus: the love interest treats the main character respectfully from their very first meeting. Very refreshing!
Currently reading, I'm at ch9, so far it looks good, I will be updating to see what's up, I like the main character so far, she looks smart and the way she and who I believe to be the Main Lead have a rocky start, but let's see how it goes, the Main Character is super cold tho, makes sense she is like this but one would believe what happened to her would rock her boat a liiiite bit more.
This started off so well I loved the chemistry between them and the politics but seriously what was that end?? It felt like as soon as he got his first life memories back their relationship became so awkward 😭

They take a concept that is pretty overplayed and I think they give it an interesting twist, the fmc is extremely intelligent but my baby girl just needs someone to love her omg. Every time the duke does something she’s like oh shit is this what it’s like to have someone give a shit. My poor baby
statecraft. character rot. emotional redemption arcs. women weaponizing regret like a blade. the politics are THICK. like molasses in midwinter. if you so much as blink between chapters, you will forget who 6 minor counts and a cardinal are. i’m not kidding.
