I’ve been in love with the same woman for years.

Watching her from afar, I’ve yearned to be a part of her life.
But I’m not, I can’t be. I have nothing to offer the innocent...until suddenly, I do.
One night, a tempest of bloodshed and death leads her to my door begging for my help, which I give.
If only she knew the biggest threat, the scariest monster, was the one she just locked herself inside with.
Others might hunt her, but Scarlett has been my prey for years. It’s time I claimed what is mine.

After all, isn’t obsession just another form of love?

I’ve been in love with the same man for as long as I can remember, aching for him, wishing he would notice me.
But then he does, and what follows is a tale of shared pain, need, and hope.
One night seals my fate, and he becomes both my saviour and my captor.
If only he knew I’m not the innocent little girl he thinks I am.
He might be dangerous, but I’m no weakling. Now, I have him and I won’t let him go.

Cheesy, cringey, and booorrinngg. Was super close to dnfing at around 20% because it was so slow, but I ended up just skimming the rest to see if it gets any better, and it really doesn't. This whole book plays out like it's just one big filler book where literally nothing entertaining happens, it was all just so pointless. It's also NOT stalker at all, which is super disappointing and misleading. They are neighbors who are obsessively attracted to each other, and do nothing about it except watch each other masturbate, which they were ALWAYS doing. We get it. You get off just from looking at each other's faces, I don't need to read about how hot they get you in every scene.

The entire book was the heroine being TSTL and getting harassed or assaulted by literally like 3 or 4 wannabe rapists (a little too much, don't ya think?) Because every guy just HAS to have her and her "plump" ass (keep in mind that she's completely broke and hardly has enough to even eat, but apparently when she does, it all goes right to her ass to keep its plumpness). Then the hero saying how much she is his or how hot she is but complaining he can't have her. Or the heroine running off women who flirt with the hero (when they arent together at all) because the hero is HERS, meanwhile shes off having boyfriends and only broke up with hers because he was a cheater, so she's a hypocrite.

Pretty much nothing else happened except me having to witness the most cringey scenes (hero legit gets the heroine off just by TAPPING A KNIFE ON HER CLIT WTFFF). And the hero constantly saying how shes not an angel anymore because she's sooo dirtyyy and loovvesss sex and loovvessss getting off with him watching. So pretty much I can probably go on and on about all the reasons why I disliked this book, but that would take about 350 pages. Don't recommend, unless you want something OTT with juvenile writing.

This baby is a slowish burn so be warned and prepared for that. Also it's darkish but not to dark.

Maximum has been stalking his neighbor Scarlett for some time watching her giving him a free show with her window open but he never does anything because of his life. He is a killer and he always says he can't fall in love or drag Scarlett in his darkness. But he doesn't have a choice since Scarlett is a minx and sweet to him that he keeps getting dragged in lol. And he'll do anything to protect her. And I mean anything he did stalker her from afar lol.

As for Scarlett girl has a rough life her moms bf is a perv, her ex and some random guy at school all of them try to sexual harass her she isn't safe no where. And she feels safe with Max. So she does spend alot of time near him, he also teaches her how to defend herself and she uses that.. my problem with that is I wish she told Max sooner her problems at home. She was scared all the time when she went home sometimes I did wanna slap both. But was glad when he saw any man try to do something he would harm them. Man i melted when he made sure her blackmailer got his and any other person.

I might read her bffs story!! She seems intresting.

Scarlett and Max are neighbors and although they are both obsessed with each other, nothing happens for 3 years because Max thinks he is a bad man and too dangerous for her innocent life. Max stalks her a lot, though, he knows when she comes home and when she leaves, where she goes. He watches her from afar and wants her all the time.

*********************************************

Scarlett has a bad home life. Her father left them years ago, her mother is a drug addict and different dangerous men came into their life, always threatening her. This last man her mum hooks up with also comes onto her all the time and it is a matter of time that he rapes her. She is saving money to move out of the house soon.

Scarlett has an ex boyfriend who disturbs her now and in the end he blackmails her with vulnerable photos of her.

Also, there is another guy at the university she attends, who also doesn’t take no for an answer.

It seems that there are three potential rapists in her life. That was a bit too much???

*********************************************

Scarlet wants Max. She knows he might be dangerous but still she wants him. As much as he is obsessed with her, she is also obsessed with him. She never closes the curtains when she gets undressed and she tries to give a show to Max. He is always there in the darkness of his room, watching her.

Max and Scarlet get closer and closer when these three potential rapists disturb her safety one by one. He helps her in any way he can.

However, Max is too scared that his life may threaten Scarlet’s so when he comes one step further, he goes two steps back the other day. Their becoming a couple is a very slow and very dragging process.

The book could easily have been 200-250 pages but with their “slow as a turtle” process, it becomes 350 pages. It is unnecessarily lengthy and a lot of time is wasted until Max believes that Scarlett really wants him in her life. It was really annoying. I said, “Oh, come on” so many times while reading this book.

*********************************************

The emotional side of the book is good. I believed in their feelings and the writing made me feel. If only it didn’t drag so much.

However, although I liked the emotional side of the book, I didn’t like it at all when they got sexual. First of all, I hate phone sex and it happens twice before they even become a couple and one is a phone sex with texts and the other is a video one where they see each other and talk at the same time. And the morning after, they are still just friends or whatever they are?!

And although the kissing scenes are all good, the sex scenes are not my cuppa. I didn’t like any of them, I guess. The gagging, spanking, and him calling her “my dirty girl” all but killed the emotional side of their love for me.

I also hated him for always calling her “baby girl”. He is only 5 years older than her so I cringed every time he said “baby girl” as if he was much older. Maybe it’s me, I don’t know.

As for the sex scenes, the writer tries to make it kinky but in my opinion, they were not good kind of kinky. I read the book “I, porn star” which had many kinky scenes and I f*cking loved that book so it’s not because I cannot read kinky, it is because the ones in this one were tasteless in my opinion or were not the ones I expected after his deep emotional state. I expected from him a more passionate love making instead of some kinky scenes.

For example, I really cringed when he gave her an orgasm by hitting her clit with his knife. Knife, for God’s sake??!! What the actual f*ck!

And they waited and waited for so long and their second sex on the first night they become a couple is an anal one… nope, I didn’t like that either.

Therefore, it is fair to say that the book is regarded as hot by many readers but it was not my kind of hot. If it were, it could have easily been 4 stars for me.

*********************************************

The book has a HEA and a good epilogue, where thankfully the writer doesn’t do the cliché thing and show them pregnant or with children. Yes, they want it some time in the future but the Epilogue of two years later is with no pregnancy or child and I loved it.

I hate it when writers do not give their couple some alone time but make them pregnant in a few months if not earlier.

*********************************************

So, all in all, this book was both good and bad for me. It had parts I liked and parts I didn’t like.

I am glad that all the bad guys are punished and got what they deserved in the end, including her b*tch of a mother who tried to give her to the bad guys just to save her own as*. Seeing they all got what they deserved felt really good but I kinda felt that those threats to her life all happening at the same time were a bit too much – too unbelievable maybe?

Whatever, this was my first book from this writer. I may or may not try another book from her, I don’t know.

*********************************************

Safety:

Apart from the psycho guys touching, groping or kissing her, it is safe with no cheating.

Although Scarlett goes on a date during their one-month separation, she can't even finish her dinner and she leaves.

Max is not a man-whore and there is no OW drama. He doesn't see anyone else but her.

*********************************************

Writing:

Dual point of view
350 pages (Dragging but makes you feel)

*********************************************

Here are some QUOTES from the book...

Where I am all darkness, she is all light, and merely being in her presence makes me feel like a devil faced with an angel, like she can see all the blood on my hands and body from the years, yet she smiles at me anyway.

***

Covered from neck to feet in tattoos, with long dark hair, and even darker eyes and beard, it’s clear why people stay clear of him…all apart from me. Why do I seek him out? Why am I so drawn to him? I know it’s a crush, a dangerous one, and I thought it would fade over time, but with each swift conversation or look, it only seems to get worse.

***

We are like two ships on a stormy sea, fighting to stay away from each other but pulled together by the current—we will hit eventually.
He will have me.
I will have him.

***

What I can tell is that Max had a hard childhood, maybe as hard as mine. No wonder we drifted together. Pain calls to pain...

***

“Once we cross this, there is no going back,” he rasps, but he’s already leaning into me, just two people lost in a storm they have no control over.

Two lost souls finding each other in the dark, not searching for the light. I don’t want to be saved if it means being without Max Hunt, I want to be damned with him.

“There was never any going back,” I reply softly. “We were bound to collide, Max, two forces pulled together without either of us knowing. Limerence, a beautiful wreck.”

***

“What? You’ve been watching me again?”

The thought doesn’t bother me as much as it should, instead, it actually relaxes me. It means he still cares a lot, and it also makes me feel safer knowing he was around.

“Not all the time. I stayed away as much as I could, but I had to know you were okay and that you were safe.” He shrugs. “Are you mad?”

“No,” I admit, and he seems to freeze. “I like it when you watch me.”

He seems to slump before he pinches his nose. “Don’t fucking encourage me,” he groans.

***

My dad once told me if it hurt, it isn’t the right decision.

This hurts more than my father leaving, more than my mother’s lack of love and her conveyor belt of men who hurt me. This hurts so much, my whole body is filling with it, an invisible pain that no one can take away…but is it wrong?

I don’t know, but I do know that right now, in this moment, in the dark, with this space between us—it isn’t right.

Scarlett and Max. Neighbors. Obsessions. Lovers. Max is convinced that he is a monster and he's stalking an angel next door. He knows that he doesn't deserve her but that doesn't stop him from wanting her. Scarlett suspects that her neighbor is dangerous but that doesn't keep her away. She sees the good man inside. When the time comes that they can no longer deny what they want, it's an explosive love affair. But can it last? Two broken souls, deep pain, secrets, and danger threaten their ever after.

I have always enjoyed Katie's writing but this is my favorite book of hers by far. It caught me off-guard with the way it consumed me. I became an obsessed reader. I connected to the characters every emotion, every action. I thrilled with them over their happy moments and suffered when it all went dark. I feared for their safety, physically and emotionally. I fumed and feared. There's nothing pretty about Scarlett and Max's romance but it's one of the most beautiful love stories I've read. "Pain calls to pain". It's twisted, passionate, and all-consuming. Scarlett brings lightness into his life. She gives him a reason. She gives him unconditional acceptance. He brings her safety. He values her for more than her looks. He spoils her when no one has even met her basic needs before. They both wrap each other in love. I adore every single aspect of these characters, their assets, and their flaws. His grumpiness, her sunny disposition, their intelligence, and need. Yes, they each were broken with jagged edges, but they fit together perfectly. Scarlett was strong, creative, determined, and surprisingly naughty. Max was damaged, dark, so unforgiving and hard on himself but he was also so generous, protective, thoughtful, and willing to do anything for Scarlett's happiness. Their stories individually were heartbreaking; together they were glorious.

It started off as amazing and addictive, but along the way i lost a bit of enthusiasm.
Mostly because of the whole i-don't-deserve-her-i-need-to-walk-away-but-she-is-mine.
Max' indecision bothered me, and his behaviours caused more problems than anything else.
I felt a kindship with him over the fact he didn't really love himself tho...
Plus sometimes he was really the dream man, and so damn sweet.
So we could say i liked him after all.

I loved Scarlett and her resilence.
She is strong, and doesn't give up easily.

The relationship they built day after day is amazing, and so is their chemestry.
It's kinda slow burn: there aren't that many seggs scenes but somehow it hotter. You can feel the tension building.

Few things in the storyline didn't totally convince me, yet it's a good story to read. And in the end i appreciated it.

Dnf 38%. I could just about overlook the extraneous and repetitive details about daily life padding it out without adding anything to the story but we just jumped a shark with the university’s reaction to the blackmail ‘plot’. Just nonsense, I can’t read and roll my eyes at the same time so I’m bailing here.

This was a great dark and obsessive sci-fi romance! Max and Scarlett have been in love with each other for years. During a night of bloodshed, she comes to him for shelter, but he also becomes her captor as well. Can two tortured and broken souls find their ever after?
I loved Scarlett’s personality- she’s fierce, creative, and not so innocent. Max is a huge teddy bear on the inside, but he is protective and possessive of her and always puts her first. Nadia, Scarlett’s best friend, was my favorite character I think. She gives unconditional love and has no judgment no matter what you’ve done. I also really liked Milo, the dog, and Keanu, the computer genius. Katie definitely has a talent because I was feeling every emotion that these characters felt. I believe deep down all of us secretly want an obsessive, all consuming love. There was so much sexual tension between the two it was unbelievable and hot. This story was emotional, raw, and twisted and was filled with many dark themes such as attempted sexual assault and violence- I was hooked from the start and it left me wanting more of this obsessive love!

This book was absolutely phenomenal. I was hooked from the cover and the blurb and then- by the first page, there was no way I was putting this book down! Scarlett and Max are two very well developed characters that captured my heart and all I could do was hold on for the wild ride that ensued. K.A Knight is extremely talented, her characters are always so well thought out, the flow and pace of her writing always hits its mark. I have yet to read a book of hers that I haven’t loved. This book has all the things I love – a darker theme, suspense, action and drama, mystery and of course romance and steam that Katie is so good at creating. This book also has POV’s from both Scarlett and Max and that really made the book so much more engrossing. Scarlett is a strong willed, feisty and extremely brave character that rises above her circumstances; she does not let them drag her down. I admired that in her! Max thinks so little of himself, even though he truly isn’t the monster he sees himself as. I so loved seeing these two characters learn to stand on their own and side by side. I thoroughly enjoyed this standalone and I am looking forward to reading the spin off!!

WHERE IS THE HYPE FOR THIS BOOK. literally no book by ka knight disappoints me and this was no different. i loved it so much.

- age gap romance
- slow burn
- could cut sexual tension with a knife
- SPICE LEVELS ARE GREAT AND DIRTY TALK TO DIE FOR
- dark (he’s a murderer so make of that what you will)
- idiots in love that can’t realise they both love each other

what i loved was that they actually allowed each other to heal after trauma and took time apart to feel safe and well in themselves before plunging into a relationship. goals.

READ IT.

Trying to finish this was like pulling teeth. Absolutely nothing happens for most of the book other than the hero driving to heroine to and from work/school. Oh sprinkle in every male character besides the hero sexually assaulting her.

I really liked this There were parts that were a little repetitive and slow. But I loved that Max was actually a grumpy bad guy and I liked that Scarlett had a more complex home life. I loved that he was so sweet with her but not to others.

This book has been on my list for a while, with K.A Knight being one of my favourite authors, I'm making my way through her books slowly but surely! 💖 this book did not disappoint, its a very dark book with trigger warnings!! My heart goes out to Scarlett, she has it so tough and it only gets worse throughout 🥺 Max is also a broken, lost soul like herself and basically stalks the shit out of Scarlett, but little does he know... she might not be the little angel he thinks she is 👀 I feel this book should come with a warning label for the 🔥🔥🔥 in this book!! The built up sexual tension and all the teasing is soooo intense 🥵🥵🥵 so, obviously I loved it 😂 I love Max, my heart went out to him. But Scarlett really does go through alot in this book, so the ending for me was bitter sweet, its one bumpy heartfelt ride!! 😊🥰🖤

This story had a build up that was worth the ending. It is not a typical K.A Knight in the sense the sex isn’t instant. It is a slow burn with a lot of turmoil that leads to a sweet ending.

Holly Amazeballs what a book!!! This book is an emotional roller-coaster of epic proportions. I laughed I cried and I cringed in horror. There might be a couple of tough scenes, but the resolution was so worth it. This is one of the bestest romances ever, and I am talking wonderfully mutual obsessive overconsuming love kind a way. The one we all dream about.
The author has outdone herself and I am seriously having problems finding words to express how much I love this book. I mean, her writing is brilliant, her idea is beautiful and the plot is masterfully executed, the world is well build and the characters are oh so amazing, hot and lovable. And just when you think, oh look she went mainstream romance, no she didn’t. The author put her own wonderful dark and twisted spin on the romance and it couldn’t be more beautiful.
Both of the characters are broken, each one in their own way, so there are some unpleasant moments, past and present, but they are strong and they push through, sometimes alone and sometimes together. But what is most interesting here is how they make each other grow and heal, and how they slowly make the bed past go away for one another. There will be some plain stalkerish moments, but don’t worry, all stalking here is welcomed and encouraged. And their chemistry is off the charts, smoking, steaming hot.
I am not going to mention bad guys here, there are many, but three characters apart from Scarlett and Max that I completely adored. Milo, I need Milo in my life and the why becomes obvious after just a few pages of the book. Nadia is the bestest friend any girl could wish for, that friend who gives you unconditional love and support without judgement or criticism. And then there is Keanu, the guy of my dreams, a hacker, computer whiz. Yes, that’s my thing. Keanu is perfect and I would love to read his story.
I never really liked or read contemporary romance before, and I have only read a few in the past few years but thanks to this author and a couple of my other favourites, I am now very much looking forward to reading more, and especially after this book I could happily continue reading contemporary romance, and so much more if written by this author. I love her so much, her work is most amazing bestest and I can’t wait to read whatever she writes next.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

5 DIRTY STARS

Scarlett Limerence was my first read from the author K.A Knight and most certainly won't be my last.
I went blind in to book, and I advise you to do the same.
The story is told in dual POV and it has everything I search and love in a good book. Suspense, action, and hot, very hot scenes.
Scarlett and Max are neighbors for a few years now, but from the first time that Max laid his eyes on Scarlett, he was doomed. He made an obsession for Scarlett. He began to watch her, stalk her, knowing and learning her program. Knowing everything about her. He always thought that his obsession and attraction for her, were just from his part. Never in a milion years he thought that Scarlett wanted the same thing as him and that she wasn't an sweet little angel. She was in fact more, so much more. A dirty little girl, bad bad girl. It seems like Max got more that he bargain for.
But what happens when two dark souls want to leave the darkness and come in to the light? What happens when they want to be together and happy and the circumstances and other people don't allow that? Will they fight for their happiness?

You should grab this book right now, especially if you are a fan of the dark erotic books.
It was fun, it was good and it was HAWWWWTTTT.
I must admit that I would wanted a little more darkness, but at the end it was a really good book.

Cant wait for Keanu and Nadia's story.

~BREAKDOWN OF RATINGS~
Plot~ 5/5
Features broken characters who will find solace and hope in each other.

Character depth ~ 5/5

Pacing ~ 5/5

Multiple POV ~ Yes

Hero ~ 3/5
Soooo, this is awkward to write. I enjoy a supremely Alpha male who worships his lady.
But... my issue is with HOW his character was written. Max is VERY sappy and his thoughts are much too feminine. His need for succurance was a bit awkward. I feel like, his *actions were very male but his *thoughts and *dialogue were feminine. A very weird contrast, indeed.

Heroine~ 5/5
Strong-willed, intelligent, feisty (in and out of the bedroom)

Emotion felt by reader ~ 5/5

Dark themes (ex: violence, attempted sexual assult, gore, etc):
Without spoiling anything, some of these do pertain, but she does NOT experience these from the Hero

Sensuality, Passionate ~ 5/5

Se(xxx)y time(s) ~ 5/5 very H.O.T.
Dominance, some bondage, spanking,
* 100% consensual btw the main characters.

Conclusion ~ 5/5

Cliffhanger ~ No

Book Cover ~ 5/5

*Because of the way the hero was written, I docked a star. Just didn't connect with him outside of the bedroom. Wink, wink.

Everything else about the book is on point. So because of this, I still highly recommend it.
✅ What doesn't work for me, may work for you!! Plus, the sex scenes ARE 🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍

I was so entertained by this book and it’s two main characters. Max is a hear stealer. He wasn’t just obsessed...he found in Scarlett a soul that was made for him. Scarlett was a sweet girl who despite circumstances and fear, was determined.
There was a turning point in the book where I didn’t quite understand Scarletts decisions, but I loved how Max handled it. I would love to read more about how these two navigate “normal” life, and I am looking forward to hopefully reading about Nadia. But the really intriguing one to me, and someone I hope the author has or is planning to follow up on, is Donald! I want his book! I need to know his story!
Anyway, great book by an author who knows how to write the sexy silent type!

Scarlett Limerence by K.A. Knight is my absolute favourite story she has written, so far. It’s dark, raw, sexy and emotional.

Scarlett’s strength throughout the book is amazingly conveyed, along with her emotions and thoughts. Plus the way Max sees her helps to carry across what she doesn’t see in her self.

Scarlett is described as light, whereas as Max is dark, gruff and damaged. His development throughout the story stays true to the character that you are first introduced to.

The trust and connection that theses two characters have is deep and on a level so intense. Plus all the built up sexual tension, make for a brilliant and addictive read.

The book had a couple of interesting issues that I could relate to. It is the story of two people obsessed with one another but neither one knew until things get complicated for Scarlett. Max seemed head over heels about Scarlett, sometimes a bit OTT but hey it’s a fiction book! There were a few chapters that were mostly placeholders as the narrative did not add much to the story. It seems as if the story was extended past the big turmoil in Scarlett’s house, after that the plot lost my interest but it could have been worse, I guess.

Scarlett Limerence is downright captivating. My very first read by Knight and I'm am literally hooked on her writing.

It's such an amazing dark, stalker, with a little bit of age gap story. My heart was pounding with every word.

I'm a huge fan of stalker romances. I love the idea of an obsessive hero in my romance books. Add to that a hero that is not only obsessed but also fiercely protective of his heroine. This book gave me that!

The hero, Max Hunt, is all Alpha in my eyes. Fiercely protective and devoted to the heroine. He fixes/deals with her problems and he makes life easy for her. He was swoony all on his own merits. He was such a book boyfriend material. The heroine, Scarlett Richards, was sassy and despite having her own life issues, she lives her life with her sword raised and her armor intact. She perfectly matched the character of Max with her witty and bright personality. She may be living a hell of a life but she's tough and she knows what she wants in her life. I adore her character just as I swoon over the hero.

However, while I'm loving the first half of the story and the charactrrs6, I felt after a couple of climactic scenes, the plot somehow fell flat for me, making me lose my interest as the story continues. The story goes up and down for me. Don't get me wrong, I still love this book but I felt whiplashed from the story going climactic to anti-climactic. It was stretched too much, IMO. I mean, I love a long book but I have apprehensions about them because I hate, hate, hate in the stiry when it drags and drags because no doubt it will always, always, always fell flat. The story will absolutely lose it's momentum. That's what I felt happened here. The ending was just blah for me because the story had already lost it's climax and conflicts, making the story less thrilling and gripping. I think it still could be salvaged if the chronological order of the story was shuffled though.

And in the last couple of pages, there was a little error the author have missed. I don't know if anyone noticed it but it's a part of a great scene, part of the closing scene. It may he a small detail but it derailed my imagination of the scene.

My overall conclusion, this book is still an awesome read and one I would still recommend. Even if I have issues with details and story flow, the overall plot is still interesting and good. And also, I'm still looking forward for the next book, Nadia's story.

“I have officially claimed her in every sense of the word, she just doesn’t know it yet...”

I’m a sucker for a stalker dark romance, throw in the mix an age gap and it will knock me off my feet!! K.A. Knight has once more wrote an amazing story with such a twist with the characters that I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with the stalker and yet, here I am daydreaming about Maximus Hunt…

Maximus Hunt is the darkness you fear, he’s been watching her from afar for years, he can’t taste her, because he knows the moment he does, he won’t let her go.

Scarlett. her present is the one she’s trying to flee; she needs to get away from the life she’s having, she needs the light after the dark. One taste of Max and she can’t stay away from him, she finds comfort in him, he protects her and that is something new to her, but secrets start to pile up and once they are out there might not be a way back.

This story has so much darkness but somehow the sweetness compensates and makes it the perfect storm; with the good and the bad and I have to say this is another win, even “if my heart is feeling sore, somehow I still want more” (How Would I Know- Kygo & Oh Wonder)…

Wow, what an emotional roller coaster. This story was about a young woman named Scarlett who struggles with an abusive mother and her boyfriend and plans to save and get away as quickly as she can. I loved her character and thought she was a strong and independent woman even with everything she's had to face and I loved how even though all this bad stuff was happening she could Still till see the good in people. Then there's the hot naughbour next door Max, who's just as obsessed as she is, and all he can think about is her. And I have to admit I fell in love with both characters. Max is all man with a dark secret and will stop at nothing to keep Scarlett safe, and the tension between them gets super hot. I loved Milo, the little sweet three leged dog that Max took in and secretly fell in love with the little rascal but won't add mit it. Scarlett deals with some horrors, but I'm glad she's able to face them with her best friend Nadia, who's foul-mouthed and full of energy but is a true friend. This story is about finding love and facing your Demons head on and I loved reading every minute of it to the point I couldn't put it down and wow that ending finished it of so well for me that I'm in love with this series now.
