These essays were all so good! The last essay on “Cultivating everyday courage” was definitely my favorite.
Some key takeaways from the last essay:
- Competently courageous people don’t take action before those around them are ready to take them seriously
- In taking action, they frame their issue in terms that their audience will relate to, making effective use of data, and managing emotions in the room.
- Follow up with your actions, no matter how things turned out.
This quote❤️: “ Above all, keep your values and purpose front and center. You’ll have a stronger sense of self-respect through and setbacks you face, and you’ll be less likely to regret your actions, no matter how things turn out.”
A couple of good articles including a framework on what “advisors” do that I will use, some stats around how performance reviews are received as a result of an unwillingness by managers to have difficult discussions, plus a good reminder of the Dale Carnegie quote from How to win Friends and Influence People, to “be a good listener”. He was telling us even back in 1936!
Fairly detailed explanation on aspects of communication on how perceptions are made, how it can be impactful, intricacies of culture/tone etc. worthy read for sure.
