She didn’t believe werewolves were real… …until she was attacked. Can Jade come to terms with her new shifter life? For as long as she could remember, she wanted to go to Uni and study law. When she got bitten, everything changed. Jade’s not ready to accept her new reality, but she had better come to terms quickly, because it’s her only way out. There are rules at the shifter academy. They’ll keep her locked up if needed. Facing the realities of her new life, her strange powers, and the fact that she’s more prisoner than student, Jade has some tough decisions to make. What she doesn’t know, though, is that there's something sinister going on. People are in danger. Another gets bitten. The adventure has just begun.
I love a good academy story and this paranormal shifter academy read is off to a great start! Say you didn’t believe in anything magical, supernatural or paranormal then find yourself bitten and thrown into that world, what would you do?? Well if you are anything like our female mc you don’t take it lying down! The pacing was great , the storyline addictive and our female mc entertaining and likeable and an ending with a twist!! I look forward to what comes next!
This is book one of the Fur ‘n’ Fang Academy series and the main character is Jade, who has moved back to her uncle’s old farmhouse, ready to begin her studies at UCL, where she will be studying law. Unfortunately, it looks like her uncle’s place is a bit more derelict than she expected, after he was put into a home a few years previously. It has that musty smell of somewhere there has been no movement of air for years, and is covered in dust. She spots the bard outside and decides to check it out. Just as she went back to her car for her sleeping bag and supplies, she thinks she saw a movement in the dark, but puts it down to her worries of being alone and it getting dark. But when she hears a growl, she sees a huge dog, more the size of a pony, coming straight for her and baring its teeth at her. She tries to back up slowly to get back into her car, but it manages to grab her lower leg and it is too strong for her to get away from. She gets dragged away, even as she uses her other leg to try and kick it in the head. Even dirt thrown into its face, doesn’t make it let go. When she hears another growl from behind her, she thinks her life is over! Lucky for her, it seems this creature is attacking the one that has her in its grasp.
She wakes up to find herself in the farmhouse, with a strange man, who sticks around to look after her, as she may have concussion. He has already cleaned up her leg and given her a shot of antibiotics, so now she just needs to rest. The next day she starts to run a fever and then remembers nothing else until she wakes up in a dungeon like cell with her arms restrained! It seems she is now stuck in this cage until she can be trusted amongst other students at the Sarrenauth Academy of Therianthropy, otherwise known as the Fur ‘n’ Fangs Academy by the students. Unless she accepts this new reality of hers, that once bitten, she has now become a werewolf and that is real, she goes nowhere! She needs to come to terms with it quickly, or at least pretend to, as it’s her only way out! She gets introduced to some of the instructors and the headmaster, Blake, an alpha, and learns there are some very strict rules at the academy and she better learn to adhere to them soon, or she will stay locked up in this dungeon, until the Alpha of Alphas makes a decision on her future for her.
She has a couple of weeks until school term starts again, and needs to be ready to attend classes and control her anger at her situation. Now it seems like she is back at high school, being the odd one out. Knocking into the most popular girl and her friends, as she comes back covered in junk after a failed escape attempt, gives this girl, Madison, even more reasons to hate her on sight. Never mind the fact she is a ‘Bitten’ and what Madison calls a ‘cur’, not a real werewolf and seemingly beneath others in all ways. Madison is the daughter of the alpha in her pack and is promised to the son of the alpha of another pack, Dean, who it turns out is one of her roommates in the co-ed dorm style rooms. Her other roommate is the exotic looking Mei, who is also looked down upon, as she is a shifter, but not a werewolf, but a leopard shifter, whose family had to escape from China, due to problems with their kind and other shifters. Jade has to learn how to control her shifter form before she can be safe around the mundane, and has to wear training bracelets to downplay and control her powers, as do other students until they can fully control their shift. Unfortunately, Madison and most of the other students are far ahead of her in all her classes and continue to annoy her at every turn.
When Madison gets back together with Dean, maybe be a bit insecure about his position as her guide and roommate, it is clear to all but Dean, that she is playing at her feelings for him, just to have control over him and who he sticks around. Jade manages to get together with a Scottish student, Sam, at an end of term party she was looking forward to. Over the Christmas break she stays at the academy whilst all the other students go back to their packs and families, unable to fully trust herself in the normal world yet. She gets extra lessons by those instructors and teachers who are sticking around, and finds herself brought in to help with a situation, that her mentor Shaun, reckons she would be the ideal person to help with. Another mundane has been bitten and brought to the academy and seems to have the same anger issues she does. Alpha Blake isn’t too keen on the idea, but she is the only one who would know what it is like, since she is the first ‘bitten’ in the lifetimes of the staff, or even longer, and there seems to be no real history about them either. The new werewolf is called Ryan and she is successful in finally getting him to agree to try out the new situation he has found himself in, rather than await a possible death sentence or a lifetime in a dungeon cell!
More danger comes to the academy and the shifter community, as the person behind the attacks on mundanes is thought to have been located, but is hiding in a dragon shifter haven and this brings them under the control of the druids, people shifters don’t interact with and it could start a war again, if not handled properly. Upcoming exams put more pressure on Jade, as if she fails anything, she will end up having to repeat the whole year and that would be embarrassing as well as leave her behind, the only other students she can call friends. Add in issues new shifter Ryan is keeping secret and wants her to join in with, it could place many of the staff and students in danger, as well as herself. She is just beginning to get used to her new life and her new powers, as well as the situation she has found herself in, but it could all be ruined in a moment, if her anger can’t be controlled. Lots of action in this opening gambit in this academy series, as well as some interesting characters, some good, some bad, so lots to get your teeth into. I look forward to reading more of Jade and her friends adventures, as her studies continue and the real person behind her ‘bite’ is found and their status discovered, answering some of the issues Jade has had to contend with. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Excellent story in the Genre. It's focus is the MC and supporting cast so don't expect a ton of detail on how the magic works. Well developed and consistent world. I stumbled on this author somewhat by accident so the question is why Amazon's search algorithms didn't present it to me years ago. Now I'll be adding the series to my collection of 3K books and checking out the authors other works.
I liked the premise, but I just wasn’t all that enthused with the characters. Jade was full of anger, and although that was understandable, it was the most prevalent emotion throughout the book and it got old.
I received a complementary copy of MOON BITTEN by C.S. Churton for the purpose of reviewing it for #SPFBOX for the team created by Cassidy @coverswithcassidy.
MOON BITTEN is the first book in the young adult paranormal fantasy Fur ‘n’ Fang Academy series. This book follows Jade, a young woman about to head out to college to embark on her life plan to become a lawyer. While visiting her uncle’s farm she is attacked by a large dog, or at least what she thought was a dog. Though practically unheard of, Jade has been bitten by a werewolf which means that she too is now a werewolf and her entire life trajectory has changed in that moment.
As with any young shifter, Jade must attend Fur ‘n’ Fang to learn to control her new abilities and while she isn’t happy about this, she soon realizes she doesn’t have much of a choice. No human has been turned to a werewolf in years, so the differences in her temperament are a bit difficult for everyone to pin down. As she must deal with new pack politics, a lot of discrimination against the recently human, and the questions around why she was attacked to begin with, Jade begins to find her place in this new world. Even so, there’s some suspicious happenings around the academy and Jade wants answers.
This was a really fun read to finish off my SPFBOX journey for Cassidy’s team. I found this a super fast book to fly through and I could have easily binge read it in a day if I wasn’t making sure to stop for regular vlog clip updates.
I enjoyed Jade as our main character, even as she did frustrate me at a few turns. To be fair, though, I don’t think any of us would deal with a sudden werewolf bite changing our entire life. I think getting to know a bit more about Jade before the bite might have helped me to narrow down what was Jade’s personality and what was because of her new wolf side, but I did enjoy her snarky attitude.
When it comes to side characters, I did feel like some of them could have used more development. I liked that she winds up friends with Mei who is really good at being a shifter, but is also somewhat of an outsider as her form is not that of a wolf. The discrimination within the shifter world was discussed well and I liked that it wasn’t all directed at just Jade as the newbie.
There is a touch of romance in the book, but I felt like it was too much too fast. Jade goes from thinking one of the guys is hot to being in a relationship very quickly without much in the way of development. Much of their interaction happens off page and I didn’t feel like I got enough to be invested in this relationship or to really feel Jade’s feelings about it. Similarly, her friend’s pairing with the mean girl didn’t feel entirely natural to me, even with the explanation about pack and family politics backing it. All that said, I did think that the friendships Jade develops were a bit more fleshed out.
When it comes to the plot, quite a bit of this book feels like setup which makes sense given that this is such a quick read and the first in a series. Past the halfway point, I would say that the book gets more into plot with more secrets revealed about what might be going on behind the scenes at the Academy and I enjoyed that. I wasn’t entirely surprised by the twists this took, but it kept me engaged and entertained. I think the author did well at the pacing of the story as well.
In terms of the world building, I think it was pretty well done. Being that Jade is entirely new to the knowledge of werewolves even existing, not to mention the intricacies of how different shifters work together and other magical beings in this world. We are following Jade along as she takes classes on shifting, pack laws and politics, and more. This does result in it feeling like a bit of an info dump at times, but it makes sense in the classroom setting and I found this information interesting. I especially liked that there was a class on laws and the way this played into Jade’s desire to become a lawyer and also the way she was illegally bitten and turned.
I would have liked to get a bit more about the family dynamics of the packs and the larger political bodies of the wolves. We do get to see a bit of the leadership through the course of this book and some hints about how the wolves look to pair up their children. Since this is the start of a completed three book series, there is plenty of potential to get more in the remaining books. There is a bit of magic that gets touched upon that I would definitely look forward to reading more about going forward.
I overall thought that this book was well written and didn’t have many issues with the text as I was reading. This is an author with quite a few books out in the world and I can see why they get a good readership and good ratings. It was very easy to settle into the fairly casual writing style following Jade’s POV.
Overall this was a really easy binge read and one that I had a lot of fun with. I would be curious to check out more from this author in the future!
I received this ARC via Booksprout, but borrowed it via Kindle Unlimited first, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. As I’ve said before, I always give honest reviews whether people appreciate them or not.
Jade has arrived at the old farmhouse she grew up in focusing on getting her things unloaded from her car. She hasn’t been back there in years and is only there to save money while she attends law school. Unfortunately for her, she’s suddenly attacked by a large dog. As you can imagine, it isn’t pretty. Nonetheless, as she’s trying to fight it off, suddenly more dogs show up as well as a man with a gun. They save her, but she’s still mangled and exhausted. It turns out the man is Caleb who stays with her ‘to make sure she’s ok’ when in effect staying to see if she would shift. Those large dogs were wolves, and thanks to the attack, she’s now a werewolf. Holy cow! That was Chapter One!
Jade is brought to a castle that is a school for shifters, mostly wolf shifters. There she meets Dean, Mei, Cam and a few ‘mean girls’. She’s also completely full of rage and alternates between feeling sorry for herself and wanting to kill everyone. As you can tell, she’s just a popular girl. However, she and Cam actually hit it off and so she is able to find some comfort in her emotional wreck of a life.
All right, this is the same universe as Ms. Churton’s Druid Academy which I read and reviewed. That said, since this is the first book in the Fur ‘n’ Fang Academy series, there is a little world building here. While I found Jade annoying in the first half, not that she shouldn’t have been considering what happened, she did finally get a grip on herself. I enjoyed the story, definitely want to read the next one, but I honestly don’t know whether to suggest reading the Druid books first or not. Parts of this book were very intense and serious, but it wasn’t as fun as I was hoping it would be. I guess I should admit that I am more a ‘cat person’ than a ‘dog person’ and that’s probably why.
This was an incredibly fun read. The only experience I've had with academy-type books involved witches and wizards, so it was novel to see that concept applied to shifters. It's a great way to explore the mythos and the universe without veering too far into info-dumping.
As for the mythos and the universe, I really like some of the choices the author made here. In almost all other werewolf-centric books I've read, bitten/infected wolves are the norm, and naturally-born shifters are rare – if they exist at all. I like how that is inverted here, when the MC is bitten and finds herself an outcast amongst a bunch of shifters who've grown up with it. There are other concepts, such as an alpha pack, that I hadn't seen before and added a neat level of detail.
I thought I knew where the story was going, and the author set us up with a "spunky outcast conquers her new powers while besting the popular mean girls at school" storyline – which would have been just fine with me given the strength of the writing. But the plot twist about halfway through added some real stakes to the matter, catching me completely off guard. I devoured the second half of the book, eager to see what happened.
Some of the side characters were a tad underdeveloped for me, but that didn't impact my enjoyment of the story. I really like the voice of the MC and the author brings out her personality quite nicely.
I've already added the rest of the Fur 'n' Fang series to my TBR and if you like shifters, sass, and surprises, you should pick this up pronto!
At 18 years old, Jade Hart is weeks away from starting work on her law degree. Instead, she wakes in a dungeon, having been bitten by a werewolf and needing to learn how to control her wolf so she is not a danger to society. For the next 3 years, she will have to remain at shifter school. With all the other things she has to contend with, why is she feeling the stirring of a mysterious magic that shouldn’t even exist?
This series includes:
1. Moon Bitten 2. Curse Bitten 3. Feral Bitten
Right from the beginning of Book 1, the reader will be thrown into Jade’s adventure. In the very first chapter, she arrives at the old farmhouse she had grown up in. While unloading the car, a huge “dog” attacks her and she fights for her survival. But more dogs arrive and a man with a gun saves her, leaving her injured and exhausted. Caleb stays with her to make sure she’s ok, which is man-speak for waiting to see if she would shift. The large dogs were wolves, and thanks to the attack, she’s now a werewolf and her entire life will change forever. As mentioned, that was Chapter 1! The story is intense and dramatic. But Jade is a fighter. Now we have the rest of her story right here in this box set, so enjoy! Will she ever get to go to law school? And is there more going on with her? Grab your copy and find out where her new life is taking her.
I really enjoyed this story and will be interested in reading the rest of the series. Other than a few grammatical errors and a couple of continuity questions, related to the silver, the story was well written and kept me interested in seeing how Jade - who doesn't believe in supernatural creatures, magic or druids - and is suddenly thrust into a completely different world - finally accepts what she had become and how long she continued to fight against it. The pace is perfect and the characters were well developed and quite likeable. The story has the usual "cliques" - the spiteful, entitled, I'm better than you, mean girl and her entourage, the outcasts etc. There was also a nice twist at the end explaining who had bitten Jade and three others.

Jade is alone at her uncle’s old farmhouse when she is attacked by a wild dog. Rescued by a man with a shotgun who stays to keep an eye on her, she next awakens in a cage. Turns out the dog was a werewolf; Jade is now a werewolf; the cage is in a dungeon; the dungeon is in a castle; the castle is a shifter school Jade must pass before she can leave. Those who become wolves by bites are called Bitten and are very rare. Initially, Jade is angry and bitter but she settles in eventually, thanks largely to good friends and a caring mentor. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
Jade is a normal human with her life planned out when she is bitten by a werewolf. Suddenly she is whisked off to a school for werewolves and told she needs to pass each of the three years in order to graduate. Failure means repeating the failed year and her classmates going on without her. Then Jade discovers that not only has she received her biters wolfy side but also her druid magic.... Repeated encounters with the Alpha of Alphas prove that Jade has little to no filter between what she thinks and says with hilarious results.

A fantastic start to the series, I loved reading this introduction to the fur n fangs academy and all the mystery and secrets to uncover with being a shifter. A great paranormal romance story filled with action, drama, intrigue, adventure, romance, friendship and an ending making me want to read the next book to find out what happens next in this series. Well written, strong diverse brilliantly developed characters with amazingly strong chemistry and a great gripping magical storyline.

I really liked this story. It was a good beginning of a series and I found all the characters to be amusing. It was a typical academy story but with a paranormal twist that kept me entertained. And I loved the main character as she did not get over being bitten easily and fall into line. I just was amused and entertained and liked watching Jade learn everything about her new life. I liked the setup and the hints of things that might come. Just a fun story.
We have danger, mystery and acceptance. Jade has moved into a family farm to go to the university to get a law degree, what she was not expecting was to get bitten. Now she is at a Shifter Academy. She has to conform or be locked in a cage. When she agrees what lies ahead of her. Can she handle the racist? Can she understand her aggression? Can she make friends? Will she ever be accepted? Will they find the person who bite her? Can she help others if they get bitten? Who is Jade now?

Moon Bitten (Fur 'n' Fang Academy One) by C. S. Churton is an awesome story that I have loved reading. This is book number one in this awesome series that I am so hooked on and very excited to read the rest of this awesome series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading wolf shifters and fantasy in their stories.

Realistic emotions and great characters made this book a must read. I was enthralled by this story and cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I loved how the author drew me into the story. The opening scene was intense. The next reveal was mind boggling. I related to her shifting emotions and totally understood her anger. It was a well written, imaginative book that was unique and fresh.
I requested a copy of this book so I could provide an honest review.
Don't go to the barn at dusk! Wolves are prowling around waiting to taste your human hide. In a flash, your plans for the rest of your life are gone. Now instead of a dream of being a lawyer, you are enrolled in how to control your werewolf university. Where you never leave until you succeed. The born wolves are snobs are the non- wolves are looked down on. It is a caste system at its ugliest. Elitism and class society rule in wolf society.
This was a great series. I am kind of new to this author but so far I am enjoying their work. This was a series about a young girl who gets bitten and turned into a werewolf. Each book is a different year that she attends school for shifters and during each their is something that happens to her and the school. I really enjoyed this series and look forward to more books by this author.

This is an enjoyable start to an academy series of books. Jade, the MC, is unwillingly thrust into a new life as a shifter and student at a school for shifters.
The MC is understandably upset and confused with her new life and unlike in some series does not immediately fall into calm acceptance of it. However, with the help of a good mentor and some friends, her way is eased somewhat.
It's a fast-moving story and there's some nice worldbuilding going on.
I really enjoyed this new academy series about werewolves. Not your typical bite and live with the pack story, or the typical easy acceptance of a new life. The story moves well, character developement flows well but does leave room for more in subsequent books. If you like YA paranormal academy stories, I thnk you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Can't wait for book 2 in the series! Enjoy!
I enjoyed getting to know the strong and sometimes pain in the butt characters. This had a story line a bit unexpected and I liked it. It kept me entertained and wanting to keep reading more I really enjoyed the book a lot more than I expected to and I wouldn’t mind continuing to read the story I recommend
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Wonderful characters who you'll come to love. A great, twisty plot. Magic mixed with shifters in a unique blend. A crazy story that whets your appetite for the next installment.
I enjoyed this book it didn’t have the cliché werewolf romance storyline. It was a unique read and I love how strong willed and honest the female lead is. It was a good read .
I was caught from the second page...I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I may even, perhaps, get them in print so that no power is needed to read them.
I enjoyed this read…. Talk about all is not always what it seems… A roller coaster of who to trust, what to do and dealing with a hand you just were completely unprepared for… Definitely worth reading… Enjoy the emotional roller coaster and the action too…
I liked the idea that it takes a lot of self control and self incite to be able to adjust to a major change. It made the book more real life relatable. It was well written and I would recommend it to anyone.
