“Between the thick fur and my own nerves, it took longer than it should’ve to find the fluttering proof of his heartbeat. I’d known he was alive since he didn’t smell like death. No… he smelled like… home. Like my home. The one place where I would always belong. ”
Lucian Smith, unwanted at birth, is a defiant alpha who’d not only dare anyone to call him unclaimed, he’d proudly display the proof. He doesn’t want or need a pack other than the family he’s built with his crew—The West Coast Wolves. For so long, it was just them… an unlikely pack of alphas who took to the open road and helped where they could, doing random acts of kindness and expecting nothing in return.
Until the first of one of them stepped up when duty called and took his own pack to rule. This ended the brothers-in-arms’ days of riding wherever the road took them when fate conspired to give each of the brothers a pack to rule. Even Lucian… the unlikely defiant Alpha who would not only dare anyone to call him unclaimed, he’d proudly display the proof.
While out on a night’s ride, Lucian comes across a half-dead dog on the side of the road. After stopping to help, he discovers it’s no dog, it’s a shifter—an omega wolf. The true mate Lucian never dared hoped for is now in his arms, if he can just rescue him first. Little does he know there are a dozen more omegas who need saving, his mate is just the start.
With a secret over twenty years old and millions of dollars at stake, the people who stole innocent babies with plans for the ultimate payday won’t let go of them easily. Except… even omegas have hidden strength and their own ways to fight back. With the help of his crew, Lucian is in a unique position to help these lost young men and set right to old wrongs.
This is the second book about finding joy in a hard world, building a family, and discovering that life can surprise a person when they least expect it. Although this world has harsher themes than my previous books, it still has the same heart you’d expect. Plus a dose of my irreverent humor and all the naughty, knotty heat that comes with true mates. It wouldn’t be a Susi Hawke book without it. Note: possible trigger warning for mentions of stillbirth, medical abuse, and child abduction.
I'm a total fan of M/PREG Paranormal Romances, first and foremost as a reader. I'm excited to share my own omegaverse(s) with you. What's not to love about adorable Omegas and the Alpha men who love them? If I'm not writing about men sporting baby bumps, I'm definitely reading about them!
I'm a native of Las Vegas, NV, so I'm pre-wired to love everything weird ~ although I don't find any kind of love to be weird. I'm a cis woman who's been happily married to the same lovable lug for 18 years. We have a 16yr old son, well, at least I think we do? Either that, or we have a ghost that eats all our food and uses up all wifi playing xbox while screaming into a headset.
As a new author, it's been amazing to find the amount of support that I've been given from readers and my fellow authors. Feel free to message me, I love to chat with fellow readers. Am I a reader? Heck yeah! In fact, I'm never certain that I can completely trust an author who isn't a fellow bibliophile.
I will try to update here when I'm doing promotional parties & chats. I usually do those on Facebook. If you haven't already signed up for my newsletter, you should totally do it! I only send out NL's to announce new releases or important announcements. I also like to note in my NL what I'm currently reading along with a cover shot and the link for anyone who is interested.
Meh. Can’t take this story too seriously to be able to enjoy it. The core, the idea is good. The delivery 🤷🏽♀️. The writing style is very simple and lacks any kind of polish. I know that’s harsh, but it’s one of those writing styles that irritate me personally. Not everyone will feel that way, so to each their own. To me it reads awkward and lacks believability. It’s a surface story, easy going, fluffy, insta luv, HEA. All very predictable. There is a mood and time for these kind of stories and shifter lovers who want something simple, easy-read, that has all the qualities of shifter stories might enjoy this.
Fated mates and an overprotective alpha always my weakness. Lucien and 'Thirteen' met in a very unpleasant situation, but quickly they become adjusted in the situation. I liked that Eli and Matt, a couple from the previous book helped a lot and 'Thirteen' and Eli has become good friends since the beginning. Lucien is a great alpha for him. Of course happily ever after is required :)
This is an amazing, adventurous Mpreg shifter romance that is definitely worth reading. It is the second book in the “West Coast Wolves” & sadly, I did not read the “The Reluctant Alpha #1” but I was not lost & picked up on the storyline quite quickly so I think this book can be read as a standalone. The plot has good world building & is quite intense with several well-described intriguing situations and/or events. The well-developed characters (a male omega wolf shifter, Thirteen aka Charlie) & (a male alpha wolf shifter, Lucian) are likable & endearing with their determination to succeed with their individual goals & the reader will empathize with them as they go through various trials & tribulations. There is good support from the secondary characters. There is: wolf shifters, fated mates, healers, mysticism, despicable villainous villains, memories, friendship, adventure, action, mystery, drama, intrigue, suspense, humour, danger, threats, confrontations, conflict, violence, protectiveness, determination, friendship, complications, manipulations, decisions, love, contentment, some steam & a delightfully conclusion. I look forward to the next book in this series with great anticipation & would recommend this book.
This series is a bit different for Susi Hawke. I’ve read both book one and two and I had mixed feelings at first. Book one, The Reluctant Alpha, seemed almost too sweet to me. Not the story itself, which I liked very much, but the interaction between the Alpha and his Mate was a bit too syrupy sweet for me in places. Book two, The Defiant Alpha wasn’t quite as heavy on the sweet factor between the two MCs. They definitely were very sweet with each other at times, it just didn’t feel like too much to me.
Overall, I liked both books a lot. The Reluctant Alpha did a lot of set up for the series but it still had a very compelling story line. There’s a fair amount of violence in both books so take heed if you’re squeamish. When the wolves fight each other, nasty things happen and the bad guys get what’s coming to them.
I liked The Defiant Alpha a bit more than The Reluctant Alpha. I’m not quite sure where “defiant” came from, though, because Lucian never seemed defiant to me. But in book one he didn’t really want a pack so maybe that’s where it came from.
The Reluctant Alpha ended on a bit of a cliffhanger but the love story for the main couple had an HEA. The cliffhanger set up book two and I was glad that I had a copy to immediately start reading. The blurb for each book does a great job of describing the relevant story.
The primary focus of this review is book two. As the blurb says, there were a lot of things to laugh at but there were also some tissue worthy scenes. I loved the way that Thirteen/Charlie slid right into his role as Alpha-mate. I liked the way the rescued omegas picked names for themselves and the reasons behind what each of them chose.
There is a rich cast of secondary characters and we get to visit with a few from book one. I didn’t feel like this story ended on a cliffhanger. I’m pretty sure that there are more books planned for this series but if by some chance there aren’t, it wouldn’t be a huge issue for me like it would have if book two hadn’t been written to resolve what happened at the end of book one. I am curious to see where the series goes if it continues and will be reading any additional books that come along.
A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
First and foremost, please take note of the trigger warnings in the blurb. If you have issues as far as child abduction and things of that nature, this will be a hard one for you. If you are like me and love Susi’s books, this is another hit for you to read. I hated how Lucian and his omega had to meet but am glad they got to do so. With Lucian never being marked or claimed as a baby, it's something he’s had to live with all his life. Like a part of him was missing. And my heart broke for him. Because Lucian is one of the sweetest alphas you will ever meet. And I honestly can’t blame him for not wanting his own pack. I can’t blame him for almost wanting to stay on his motorcycle and keep driving past the little town where his new pack was. But then he would have missed his omega. And that story is heartbreaking in itself. But with Susi’s story comes some angst and it’s well worth it in the end. Because not only did Lucian find the mate that was perfect for him in soooo many ways, things worked out for others that had happened to his mate as well. And I loved how everyone was so accepting right off the bat. They all knew what had happened was wrong. They didn’t shame the boys, they just enfolded them in their arms and took them right in. And even with them starting to spread out, it’s still a family with them. But not only do I love Lucian and his mate, and seeing Matt and Eli again, the backbone of this story will be Esse. And I will argue that point with anyone anytime. She is the one everyone calls Mama for a reason. And I love her. She’s perfect with everyone. She knows when someone needs an easy hand and when someone needs a kick in the pants. And it’s all done with love. And she’s one of those that loves with food as well and I adore her and did from the moment Lucian set eyes on her. She takes no crap off anyone and puts up with no bull, but she’s the best. I love this story. I love this series. And with the way it’s ended, I’m curious to see who’s next and how things are going to turn out for everyone. You’ll see what I mean.
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow- Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the kids' series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or 'Liberty' from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times a year (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time- reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok). It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
After the ending of Matt and Eli’s book, I could hardly wait to get my hands on book 2. Here is Lucian’s story about his rich pack of wolves and the winery he got from the dishonorable Alpha in book 1. His new pack of wolves have to learn how to be a pack and not a corporation but everyone seems eager to learn. Enter the newfound knowledge of a rogue wolf keeping omegas hostage and selling them to the highest bidder. These omegas have been stolen from their families and given a basic education but aren’t even allowed to have a name. “Thirteen” or Charlie as he chooses to call himself quickly learns what it truly means to have a pack and family when he is found by Lucian on the side of the road. With his new family, he finds a way to rescue his brothers from captivity. Lucian and Charlie are every bit as good as Matt and Eli were!! This still has the humor and love found in Susi Hawke books even if there may be some darker themes. This is still one of her books through and through so don’t let it throw you off because we still have the strong bond of true mates and found families that stick together through thick and thin. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to see which member of the WCW gets their own book next!
Being rejected by his own family and finding refuge with West Coast Wolves, Lucian finally has his happily ever after and his own mate. Being a pack of only alphas may bring its set of challenges. Before his happily ever after, there were a myriad of challenges.
He comes across what was thought to be a dog in the middle of the road. Only it was no dog at all, but a fellow wolf - an omega named Charlie, who happens to be his mate. Saving all the omegas will be a priority, in addition to is mate before him.
Lucien's defiance was not match for his omega mate. Charlie softened the edges and gave Lucien a different future worth fighting for.
Be prepared for your share of laughter, as only Susi can bring. Despite this book being a standalone, it is much more enjoyable read in order.
**I received this ARC via GRR for my honest feedback.**
The Defiant Alpha is book 2 in the West Coast Wolves series and I strongly suggest reading it in order.
Thirteen (Charlie) manages to escape from his captors with the help of his 'brothers' and Lucian stumbles upon him during a late-night drive on his motorcycle, quickly realizing the half-dead shifter is his mate.
Lucien was steadfast and strong and Thirteen/Charlie was resourceful and sweet. It was lovely seeing how perfect they were for each other, especially since they both had gone through their fair share of hard times.
Susi Hawke has such a knack for writing novellas that feel very complete upon themselves. There is romance and sexy times, sweetness, action and a great cast of characters to root for, bad guys to hate, and an intriguing plot. It was great catching up with Mat and Elisha and meeting some of Charlie's brothers. I can't wait to see whose story will be next!
*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn't a requirement. ***
I thought that Lucien took to being an alpha really well. He might not have wanted to get into it immediately, but when he was given the responsibility, he was very good at it. He really dd what he could to make his pack into an actual pack.
I think that Charlie/13 was such a strong person, but he had an innate sweetness too, one that he hadn't lost through everything. I think that he's a good balance when it comes to Lucien.
Fated mates, rescues, and finding where you belong all together create an awesome story. This is a story of two very different men finding each other and creating a future. I love that there is Omega rescue and finding family. The action kept you reading and the heart of these men kept me rooting for their HEA. The pacing and writing flowed and the plot kept me enjoying each page.
Lucian and Thirteen, who gets to choose his own name (Charlie) are awesome. I loved how insightful Charlie is and how caring and protective Lucian is. The new pack that Lucian takes over is really awesome and I loved that they found a home. We have so many Omega's that need were rescued that the possible stories are endless.
I am looking forward to Nick and Tom's story next!
This is book two of the West Coast Wolves and could be read as a stand-alone. I would however recommend reading the first book because it really gives background information that would add depth to the story and it is a great read.
I was gifted this book from Gay Romance Reviews and i freely give my honest opinion and review
I have to admit, I was kind of hesitant to start a MPreg Omegaverse series. West Coast Wolves is so much more than that though. It had been a little while since I had read The Reluctant Alpha, but it didn’t take me long to get back into this world. I love the unique slant on both the Pack mythology and politics that’s woven into the books. Matt and Eli’s story was the perfect introduction to the West Coast Wolves, but The Defiant Alpha takes things to a whole new level.
Matt, Lucian and their brothers are the perfect group of Alphas to handle the Omegas that they’ve been entrusted with – and none are more broken or deserving than Charlie and his brothers. Their story is heartbreaking and not just for them. There are several trigger warnings that include mentions of stillbirth, medical abuse and child abduction – so parts of this one aren’t easy to read. The healing is the important part as well as hope for a much better future. The heartbreak is also laced with humor and a strong sense of family (as well as plenty of heat 😉 )
There’s very little down time in The Defiant Alpha. From beginning to end, it was hard to put down. There were twists and turns, danger and humor and plenty of sweet moments as well. I can’t wait to get to know the rest of the Alphas and their fated mates even better. The Devoted Alpha is next and readers find out who they are near the end of The Defiant Alpha. Stay tuned because it’s already on my TBR pile. 😉
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of The Defiant Alpha. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The most interesting thing about this book, for me, was the group of omegas that was held captive. It was a little bit confusing as we have to try to remember who has which power and stuff, but their interaction was good. I expected more from the Alpha's past and how he changed from his cocky mask to who he really was, but it didn't happen. Still, he is good to his mate, to his pack, and has an interesting view of how things should work.
I am Loving the West Coast Wolves! Fantastic Story & Audible Listen🎧
The Defiant Alpha West Coast Wolves, Book 2 By: Susi Hawke Narrated by: Nick J. Russo
Susi Hawke delivers more awesomeness to her “West Coast Wolves” series! I am loving this series, the characters are amazing, they and the world she created are fascinating and imaginative. There is never a dull moment in this book and the story is captivating from start to end. I recommend starting the series with the first book, “The Reluctant Alpha” not only is it an awesome book but you’ll have more history of the Alphas of the series and they grouped together and then came into their own packs. Lucian Smith is the new Alpha leader of the Tehachapi pack in Southern California, they run a successful winery but the sense of pack family is lacking and Lucian is going to change that and make it a better pack. In the beginning of the book we meet a group of omegas held captive who are using their gifts to communicate, they are referred to by their number. We learn more about them and how they came about as the story goes on. An outsider, Alex, befriended number Thirteen telepathically and he agreed to help him escape which he does but not without injury. Alex told him where he should go to be safe and get help, but because of injuries he never made it to his destination. He is found by the side of the road and is rescued by none other than his fated mate. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story moves quickly and is nicely plotted with a perfect balance of drama, a touch of angst, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt and emotional moments, some lighthearted humor, and some hot romance. Susi Hawke thank you for another enjoyable and entertaining story, I loved every minute of it.
🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Nick J. Russo continues to bring these characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. He is awesome at portraying the characters, grasping each persona and playing the role with perfection, sounding just as I picture them to sound the entire time. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen!
I enjoyed this book and thought that it was a good start to the series. I’ve read this book a couple of times since I first purchased it back in 2020 but never gotten a chance at posting a review, so here goes. I’ve been a fan of Susi Hawke’s for a few year now and have enjoyed every book that I’ve read of hers. Lucian, was never given a sire mark when he was born as he grew up in the foster system, therefore he’s never had a pack or family until he met his fellow West Coast Wolves and formed a brotherhood/pack. After killing a alpha after they declared war on the Lucerne Valley pack, as they wanted to take Elisha’s young omega brothers so Matt, Lucian, Nick, Devon, Tucker and the Lucerne Valley Deltas protected the boys, as well as the pack with everything they had. The last thing Lucian thought was becoming a pack alpha. His new pack ran a vineyard and I loved how much life Lucian added to the pack, and implanted pack runs and pot lucks dinners, so they can stop behaving like a bunch of humans, and do what their wolves crave and sense of pack.
As Lucian was heading home from Lucerne Valley, he stops on the side of the road as he sees what he thinks is an injured dog on the side of the freeway but as he gets closer he smells the most intoxicating scent ever, it smells like home. It’s not an injured dog but a wolf and Lucian’s true mate. Lucian heads back to Lucerne Valley as they have a healer that can hopefully save his mate. Lucian finds out from the healer that Thirteen is going to live, and the reason he’s called that is that he was stolen from his birth family, and therefore was never given a name. I loved how the goddess got it right matching these two souls together, so they both finally had a place to belong. Thirteen aka Charlie was so open and honest with Lucian and they find out that Charlie was one of Fifteen omegas held captive for the last twenty years, and he escaped because he was told he was going up on the auction block in a couple of days. I loved how loving, supportive and protective Lucian is of Charlie, even towards his own birth family. I’m looking forward to reading Nick’s story next. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
Some Susi Hawke books are funny. Some are sweet. Some are dark. Then there are the West Coast Wolves books. These books go there. To the dark places. To the horrific events that can be wrought upon the weak by the powerful.
Thirteen is being held captive. He doesn’t understand why. He’s been held since he was an infant, forced to grow up in a virtual prison with other omegas. He’s watched enough movies to know his life isn’t normal. He’s been indoctrinated into how his purpose in life is to serve alphas. He just doesn’t know to what end. Then things become clear, and he knows he has to escape. Right now.
Lucian was a bastard, never claimed by anyone. He bears no scar above his heart. He belongs to no one. Except he’s joined with a rag tag group of alphas who roam up and down the California coast, setting to right injustices, but keeping their own counsel. He’s a member of the West Coast Wolves Motor Cycle Cub and he does belong, but he’s also missing something.
Then he finds a dog in the road and his whole life changes. The dog is a wolf. An omega. And Lucian’s fated mate. And as much as he wants to claim his mate, there are things to be figured out – like where this omega has come from and why is he so skittish? Who are his kin? What danger might they be in?
The alpha and the omega come together, and then it’s incumbent on the West Coast Wolves to right the wrongs perpetrated against Thirteen and his ‘brothers’. Proof that family is more than just blood ties.
Like I said, this book goes to tough places. There are trigger warnings for a reason. But there is also hopefulness in the story. And, of course, because it’s a Susi Hawke, I also got my happy ending.
Nick J. Russo narrates these stories, and I have to say it’s a good fit. He does the books justice and there are more in the series, so here’s hoping they come to audio soon.
I loved book one of the West Coast Wolves and have looked forward the The Defiant Alpha and Lucian's story since the teaser at the end of the first book. Lucian is a strong alpha but as an unmarked, a lot of people would turn him away as their alpha. The pack he takes over for his friend are really welcoming and a place that can really become his home. Whilst riding his motorbike around the local area he comes across an injured dog, quickly discovering it's actually his fated mate. Thirteen has managed to escape a place many would only think of in horror stories, he had to run for his life, getting injured in the process. He's hoping to get help and go back to rescue his brothers but never anticipated meeting his fated mate. Together, along with the pack and their friends, there's a rescue mission to complete, Drama, action, pain and recovery are big parts of this story alongside the romance that develops between Lucian and Thirteen. Both men never envisioned having a mate for themselves and it's really sweet as they build up trust and love, something neither man has had much of in their lives. There's a great cast of characters in both men's lives. We still get to hear from others of the West Coast wolves and then Lucian's new pack have some lovely, welcoming people. Thirteen's brothers are such sweet men, all deserving of their own HEA's and the men in chance at the facility are well written villains of the story. Nick gives a great performance throughout the story, a lot of strong emotion coming through with everything that happens. It's easy to enjoy the lighter moments that are well balanced by the gravitas of the heart-wrenching, tough moments of escape, rescue and moving on.
Your fated mate has been kidnapped, imprisoned, and shot. What do you do?
I have been waiting for this installment of the West Coast Wolves! This book does not disappoint. It is a stunning second book. From stolen omegas, to trafficking, to omega talents, fated mates, daring, courage, rescues, and a birthing scene you can't top, this book has it all! Stolen at birth along with 14 other omegas, Thirteen has spent most of his 20 years planning his escape. He doesn't expect to find his fated mate after being shot. Lucien never expected to become a pack alpha. He especially doesn't expect to find his fated mate dying by the side of the road. As Lucien learns about his mate's horrific life, and that there are more omegas imprisoned, he unites the old West Coast Wolves to rescue them. Thirteen chooses his own name: Charlie. Finding his mate & his name are only the beginning of his discoveries. From found family to chosen family to false "family" ; loyal friends and special powers, this story will leave you breathless. Yes, there is also humor and sexy times. Ooh, you are in for a treat! If you haven't read the first book, do it now. You will be glad you did. I can't wait to read the next book. This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
Jumping right in at Book 2 without even reading the synopsis (or even Book 1) and I got captivated immediately! I stared wide-eyed at the speakers as I concentrated on what I was hearing. Whoa! Where is Susi Hawke going with this audiobook? Is this what I think it could be? Is the writer going dark? It didn't matter! My goosebumps told me I was in for an exhilarating time and I found myself kind of glad the book was under five hours in length. Something told me my heart wouldn't be able to handle the excitement of a longer audiobook. Being narrated by the wonderful Nick J. Russo, I was certain every nuance of the story would be performed. Before the end of Chapter 2, I was contacting Susi Hawke on Facebook to rave about this work. It may have been ideal to stop and listen to Book 1 but I just didn't want to--I don't think I could stop if I tried. The story of Lucian and the omega wolf numbered 13 is all kinds of thrilling. You just don't know, folks! It is my sincerest hope Ms. Hawke has much more planned for this INCREDIBLE series.
Lucien finds a dog near death by the roadside shot and bloody. When he gets close enough he realizes this is an omega wolf and his mate. He rushes him to a healer and saves his life by partially bonding him and takes all the pain upon himself. The omega lives and tells his story of his escape from a prison holding a dozen omegas meant for the auction block. All are called by a number rather by name and need to be rescued. This is a difficult story to read because of the abuse. Of course a rescue p!an ensued and all the prisoners are freed and the bad guys are killed. It is discovered that all the omega were kidnapped at birth by a doctor and nurse telling the mothers that their baby was stillborn. Lucian's mate chose to call himself after Charles Dickens becoming Charlie. Charlie discovers his family in Lucian's pack and the search is on to find the birth families of the rest. This is a very moving story with a hard fought HEA. A truly heart breaking sometimes humorous, but always loving book.
Another alpha in the West Coast Wolves has found their true mate. Thirteen and Lucian’s story was a beautiful read. As Lucian is beginning to turn his pack into more than just a money-making adventure, he finds his true mate. When Lucian first comes across Thirteen, he is on the verge of death and Lucian must find a way to not only save him but also how to keep him by his side.
I loved seeing these two find their way. Both men have had to deal with a hard past. Thirteen is very well adjusted for having had to live the way he has and makes a great match for Lucian. As the two work hard to work towards their happiness they must also work to find and help the others that are still locked up in the place that Thirteen escaped from. Not only do we get to see Lucian and Thirteen get together, but we get to see how the packs support one another and fight to save the other men. Making this a nice addition to this series and I cannot wait to see how the next alpha deals with finding his true mate.
The Defiant Alpha (audiobook) MMy Thoughts and Confessions
I am enjoying this series of misfit alphas. I always enjoy stories filled with flawed characters who need to grow, do some introspection, find their place in life, community, and themselves.
Lucian and Thirteen were great together and complimented each other in many ways. This hurt/ comfort Shifter Romance felt a little more on the violent side to me than book one. However, it did end with an excellent HEA and promise of more excitement to come, in book three.
As always, Hawke knows exactly what her fans love, and she makes it her mission to deliver just that. If you love Alpha/ omega romance, fated mates, Mpreg, found families, or just looking to try a new author, Susi Hawke’s “The Defiant Alpha,” on audio with Nick Russo narrating is perfect. Rawr! ❤
The Story: 3.50 🌟🌟🌟. ✨ The Narration: 4.50 🌟🌟🌟🌟. ✨ Overall: 4.00 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from GRR to read and review. ☘📚☘
I loved Lucian and Thirteen. Their meeting was sad but I was happy to read their story. First Lucian. Watching him go into that pack and lay down the law about how they were going to change how they saw themselves was great. He wanted them to be more of a pack and less like a business. It was nice to see and I loved that many of the residents felt the same way. Thirteen, was such a brave wolf. I was impressed with how he came up with that plan and put it into motion. I loved that even though he was sheltered he wasn't completely without knowledge. The way Luci and Thirteen(Charlie) worked to rescue the other was so memorable. It was nice that Luci didn't leave him behind. All in all I loved this one more than the first. The side characters were really funny and it didn't have as much of a dark tone.
If you have ever read Susi's work, you know that she writes her share of drama, but love and law always win out. This series is no different. Susi will state that this is bit of a darker theme, and it is, but we always see love win the day.
Male omega's are very rare and precious, but as we saw in the Reluctant Alpha, less than law abiding Alphas will do just about anything to possess one.
Thirteen lived with a dozen other omega's. They were given no names, just assigned a number. It was a structured life filled with studies and lessons. Until one day, thirteen was taken aside and told he would leave on Monday to be taken to Auction. He knew he needed to escape soon.
This is another awesome read by Susi. Pick it up to find out what happens next.

Charlie and Luci were absolutely the most wholesome couple I've ever read from Susi Hawke's books.
I love how almost never cursed and always had a cute little old time-y replacement for anything he might have said otherwise....
I love how this book opened up many avenues for supporting characters and how all his "brothers of the heart" had sassy, beautiful, quirky little ways of naming them selves. I very much look forward to reading any future books in this series and am especially excited at what comes next.
Please give the (West Coast Wolves) series a read, I think you'll enjoy them just as much!
Lucien has only been at the vineyard with his new pack for a month when his wolf insists on going for a ride, Lucien doesn't know why but he trusts his wolf's instincts. When all of a sudden he knows he's in the place he needs to be he sees it...the dog, no wolf....no MATE!! Thirteen hasn't had the best of lives so far, but he has His fated mate and a pack now. Second book in the series and absolutely fantastic, I couldn't put it down once I started reading, page turner. Lots of angst, and passion, some distressing topics covered but done in context to the story.
My review of the first book was not very encouraging. Very familiar with works of this author, I expected much better and hoped the second book would be more.
And I'm telling you. I was not disappointed, this book was beyond what I expected.
The level of intrigue, suspense, rescue, while having a touch of humor and a great source of love and compassion were all spot on and interwoven perfectly to keep us wanting to continue reading while keeping us on our toes.
