A Righteous Man

Rate this book
Salinger Dolan. You know his name. You've seen his face. You've spent money on the endless amount of useless crap he endorses. Of course, you've heard the stories. You know the ones… The one that claimed he was hard to work with and totally unprofessional on set. The one where he got caught doing drugs on the set of the most popular, family-friendly show in America. The one where he ruined the reputation—and career—of America's sweetheart. There’s more truth to those stories than his fans want to believe because Salinger is the kind of thoughtless, careless, dangerous Hollywood bad boy the paparazzi and fame-hungry starlets can't get enough of. Eventually, the shine of his flashy lifestyle started to fade, and Salinger realized the only thing he's famous for nowadays is his bad behavior and well-documented struggle with addiction. The former golden boy is beyond tarnished, and the only person who can help him get his glow back is the one woman who wants absolutely nothing to do with him. Maren Copeland. You might recall her name. It's possible you vaguely remember her face. You're probably wondering where she went. After all, you've heard the stories… The one where she exposed Salinger Dolan’s drug use all those years ago. The one that said she tried to ruin his career because she was envious of his popularity. The one about how she went from being everyone's favorite to a pariah overnight. Maren Copeland is now known as the comeback queen. After years of hard work and purposely avoiding entanglements with problematic heartthrobs like her first co-star, she's on track to revitalize her career and rearrange her priorities after a very messy and very public divorce. For the first time in both her professional and personal life, she’s the one calling all the shots. Unfortunately, the path to get her where she wants to be leads directly to none other than Salinger Dolan. He’s the one and the only person she swore she would never work with again. Once upon a time, he cost her everything. He’s back to make amends and promised to give her anything she wants if she’ll just give him a chance to prove he’s grown up. She doesn't trust him. She knows she’d be a fool to believe he’s changed. After all, what are the odds that a spoiled, entitled brat like Salinger Dolan could become a righteous man?

It has been a while since I picked up Miss Crownover's book. And how I miss it. A Righteous Man is a quick cure for that.

The plot is simple. A second chance romance. The conversation and the babter is intense and real. Miss Crownover has the knack to bring the story alive with her words.

Although I wish to have much more imtense plot, but for now this book is OK.

In the author’s own words, A Righteous Mas
was about love, loss, and addiction… I was moved. I was emotionally invested.”

Salinger Dolan grew up in the spotlight, and by age sixteen he was jaded and cynical, with no one to stop his self-destruction as long as he was getting ratings and making money. The only person who tried to step in lost everything. But that concern and care was etched in his soul.

Maren Copeland didn’t want a safe life as an accountant. Through acting, she wanted to tell “stories that would help others and offer them an escape when times were tough.” Moving to Hollywood was scary, though her determination was stronger and was quickly discovered. But was just as quickly shunted when she tried to put a stop to her co-star’s self-destruction.

Over a decade has passed and both Salinger and Maren have struggled to get to a point where their dreams feel so close to being achieved, but to get their they must learn to work together. Even after he’s asked for forgiveness and promises to abide by every rule and stipulation she can think of, can she trust him after she swore she’d never work with him again?

I love Jay Crownover stories! They always pull so many emotions out of me. A Righteous Man was raw, intense and addicting. Crownover skillfully weaves addiction as the backstory of this beautiful romance where she reminds us the importance of love, for other and most importantly towards ourselves.

A Righteous Man is a standalone contemporary romance by Jay Crownover. It is a sexy standalone romance, told from both points of view with a happy ending. Sub-genres: Older woman, younger hero | Enemies-to-Lovers

I have been waiting for this book to come put in audio for what seems like forever but really hasn’t been too long.

First I have to rave about the narrators because holy smokes batman they were amazing. Both did the characters justice, Aaron has the perfect voice for Salinger and Kasha was Maren I loved it.

Going in blind with this author always serves me well, she give you a story that plays on your heart strings and makes you root for the bad boy. I love it and I loved these characters. You feel Salinger’s regret, shame, sorrow, but you also feel his willingness to do what he has to, to prove himself to the world, his family, Maren and even himself.

Maren is fantastic, I love that she isn’t a pushover she was hurt and that hurt can’t just go away. But she is a smart woman and can see both sides, the fact that she listens and takes into account a different point of view how she forgives. It is kinda awesome.
I loved this book!

I hate Hollywood drama! I don't believe in a true love story based there because it was proved so many times that it does not last forever.
All I had in mind while I was reading this book was Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lovely (even if the age gap is vice versa); them two are my last hope of real love in Hollywood.

Jay Crownover is my favourite author and I read ALL her books so I couldn't pass this one either. It was an amazing love story, great damaged characters, emotional, deep and intense feelings delivered by Jay like no one else ever can.

i liked the idea of it but not the delivery :(
i liked how it started but then i didn't like what turn this plot had
i was getting really annoyed with her behavior and her push and pull, i felt like she didn't deserve him... this H also was to good, i mean, no bad boy vibe in him at all other than his past. He was 10 years younger than her, i wanted more from him i dunno.
I was also REALLY annoyed that the most important steps in their relationship or when they were being close were OFF PAGE, the author TOLD US but she didn't SHOW US and this didn't help me at all to fell something about them, i wanted to DNF it so many times but i kept waiting for something that never come :(

I will start my review with this: PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!!

Jay Crownover blessed us with a surprise book to end 2020 and it was really everything we needed to end this rollercoaster of a year.

This story was seriously a rollercoaster of feelings. I really felt invested in the characters and their arcs and I just wanted them to have their happy ending.

Salinger is the kind of character that you will either like or really love. I don’t think you can actually hate him. When you start the story, you want to dislike him, but as it goes on, you get to realize what kind of man he’s working to be and you just want him to succeed.

Maren is a character you feel for her after what she was put through. She wanted to do a good thing and it turned on her, but even being older than him, I feel like it took her even more time to realize that some of her resentment was misplaced. Not completely, but a part of it. Through this book, you can see her grow as much as Salinger does.

Both characters are so relatable and I loved that it took time for both of them to get where they ended up. I really felt like they both brought something to each other and it just made the story even better. I could have read a whole series just about them honestly.

You can also tell that she had a lot of fun writing these characters and this story. I will admit that I enjoyed other secondary characters in it and I would be more than happy to read more about them. Some characters I just wanted to see crawl under a bus, but I will leave it at that hahaha

Overall, I am happy that this was my last book of 2020 because I really feel like I’m finishing the year with such a banger. This book was really amazing and you guys need to get your hands on it and devour it just like a did.

So I’m ending my review the same way I started: PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!!

I admit I totally bought this book because of that cover (even though it would suit a YA book much better imo, but the guy is definitely eye-catching) and the reverse age-gap theme.

I normally really like this author, but this one didn't work for me. I made it 40% before giving it up. I liked Maren, hated how it seemed like she got screwed over again and again. I was pissed her friend/agent backed her into a situation on the plane ride she knew was wrong, even if it would be for the part of a lifetime. She crossed lines there. Salinger came off as a boy who still didn't want to grow up, despite being long over due for it and trying to start his own production company. I'm sure these two managed to work things out and the movie/tv show/whatever was good, but I didn't stick out to find out, this one just wasn't for me.

A Righteous Man was an easy read, low effort and quick. I was in the mood for old-style Jay Crownover vibes but this didn't hold the same level of plot or feels as some of those older ones.

Set in the movie industry, this book had an older woman, younger man trope but it wasn't icky level. I do like the idea of a book focused on a reformed character who is a good guy but the plot just didn't have enough intricacy for me; I needed a bit more pzazz, you know!

You could bat this one out as an easy afternoon or weekend read and feel pretty satisfied but personally, I wanted more.

First let me start by saying I am a huge Jay fan. I would buy and read anything she wrote. I know this past year was hard for everyone and I am sure that had some influence on this book. This book, I just didn’t love. I didn’t feel a connection to the characters. I didn’t care for Maren honestly at all. I felt like Jay told us how to feel and there was very little conversation between the characters. It felt very skimmed over. For me, It was just missing something.

I listened to the audiobook.
I enjoyed Salinger and Maren. Both have been through their share of troubles. And even with a bit of an age gap they fit well together.
I felt bad for Maren when she had to deal with her horrible ex. Glad Salinger was able to overcome his troubles and be there for Maren.
A good read.

This story felt like everything I expect from Jay, and yet something so different. I enjoyed getting to know Salinger and Maren, brand new characters in a whole new setting for Jay. Hollywood is a brutal place to work, and when Maren's career is rocked by the addition of a 16 year old her her established show, she finds herself rebuilding. Ten years later, she hasn't forgotten the blow Salinger Dolan caused her career and hasn't forgiven him. But her career is on an upswing again, despite her recent divorce. The newest script to come across her view captures her attention, but if she is going to take the role she will have to get right with working with Salinger again.

Salinger was falling off the deep end when he worked with Maren all those years ago. It has been a long climb out of the dumps he had let himself be led. Several stints in rehab and a new business venture has him focused on keeping his track moving in the right direction and attempting to rebuild his Hollywood career. He wrote the script with Maren in mind, and though it is important enough to him that he will continue even if she doesn't sign on, he is really hoping to make amends and get her involved in the project.

These two were just so much fun to watch. Maren is holding a grudge from 10 years ago, while Salinger is trying to fix the wrongs his addiction caused. But he also never forgot that Maren tried to help when everyone else let him run astray.

This had quite the range of emotions, but though it dealt with the aftermath of addiction and the rebuilding that comes with hitting rock bottom, it never felt heavy. I loved the author's note in the beginning touching on her inspiration for these characters and could feel those threads strongly throughout. This was a perfect year end read, at the end of a rough year and a differently busy holiday season.

A Righteous Man was exactly what I needed! I loved pretty much everything about this book. Truthfully, I'm hot and cold with age gap romances. However, I love them if they are done well. Let me just say, Jay Crownover nailed it. In addition, this story revolves around two actors and that's one of my favorite tropes. There's a lot about this book that made it an enjoyable read!

It was easy to become invested in Sallinger and Maren. I enjoyed the way that they evolved over the course of the book. There was significant character growth in both of the main characters. Things didn't feel contrived. The storyline came across as believable and heartfelt. In addition, the secondary characters were well-written and lent balance and depth to the overall storyline. This was a beautiful romance, but it was also a wonderful story about forgiveness and friendship.

I'm hoping for a fun followup book with Jeno, Sallinger's step-brother. I feel like there's a great story there.....

Salinger Dole and Maren Copeland, moviestar magic, or movie star disaster? That is the question. An enemies to lovers to so much more. Actors, they can be so fickle, and the 10 year age gap when Salinger and Maren first met seemed huge, but 10 years later it seems that Salinger has matured way more than Maren would have ever expected. When she swore she would never work with him ever again, she didn’t have all the facts. She was unaware of the way that 10 years, and a LOT of maturity, along with the fact that he was clean and sober would have on him, and her reaction to him. I loved Salinger. He was definitely everything that Maren could need and more. I loved the progression of their not relationship. Salinger was persistent if nothing else. A wonderful story, both happy and a little emotional at time, the perfect balance to keep me addicted throughout. Wonderful writing, wonderful story and great characters. I loved it.

Maren is a actress who loses a role she has been doing for 4 years. Her heart is broken. She felt like the producers should know her co actor  Salinger who was under age was on drugs. He was very famous and been acting since a child. She didn't want him to go downhill but the producers didn't care. Hollywood just cares about ratings and making money. I feel like she was trying to be his big sister but you don't tell a famous person what to do. She learned that the hard way.

When Maren was on the verge of losing the most important person in her life. Salinger was the only one she could lean on. Some great writing getting them together.

Jeno's mom is a horrible person. I don't trust her and Salinger was right to take her off his security list.

The story moves slower than Jay usual writing. I still liked it and I'm hoping Salinger brother gets a book with Arrow.

I love asshole heroes who redeem themselves and this book has it in spades!!!
Salinger is a spoiled indulged baby man who leaves a path of ruin wherever he goes.
Maren is guarded and downright cold, but not 100% without reason. Good combo and well, what’s the worst thing that could happen?

With many of this author's books being series or interconnected books, this one is a whole new world focusing on the tough television and film industry in California. But it has the author's style, humor, and flawed, but likable characters. I easily got sucked in.

Maren Copeland was once America's young darling and tv star, but she lost it all after Salinger Dolan joined her show. They were enemies and liked to taunt each other. But when she tried to help the younger man who was making bad choices, she was seen as a problem and lost everything.

Salinger was a star and teenager living in the fast lane and it finally caught up with him. He has survived multiple rehab stints, hurting those he cared about, and losing his career. But he is determined to move past it.

Ten years later, Maren is carving out a new niche in her career and is popular again. She is divorced and trying to move on. Salinger has his own production company and is hoping to lure Maren into working on his new film. He knows she hates him, but maybe not the full extent.

Salinger is ready to grovel and work for it. And just when it seems he can do nothing right, he actually does by just being the caring man he has grown to be. Tentative steps forward lead to something neither of them expected.

But can Maren really count on him not to hurt her or her career again?

I really liked these two characters. Salinger, the younger, tatted. ex-addict, with a bad rep. He has worked hard to be a better man. Maren, the now-older-and-wiser actress who goes through bad things, but keeps trying to find fulfillment with herself and career. They both had to deal with significant challenges and pain, but also had to learn from their mistakes. They both had such good hearts and intentions.

This is a sweet, sexy, witty, heartfelt, age-gap, enemies-to-lovers, second-chance, and redemption story. Despite the harder topics, it was engaging and not too intense. I enjoyed getting dual points of view. I liked the quirky and bossy side characters of her assistant, Arrow, and her agent, Lennon, and his brother, Jeno. I would like to see more with them.

The call of Hollywood can be as promising as it is destructive. For Salinger Dolan – the rise to fame came in a rush. A face that the public adored as it was plastered all over the TV through endorsements and movies. The rush of the endless stream of sins that comes along with the rise in Hollywood may have been a bit more than anything that Salinger could control. A firework that was set to explode.

With Hollywood offering all that a man could want, Salinger fell prey to the trappings that come along with the rise to the top. A crash and burn that had all of America crowding into the front seats to watch. The spiral into darkness that enveloped Salinger pushed until this up and comer fell from grace. Several stints in rehab left all of America forgetting about the golden boy they once loved.

Time wasn’t so kind to Maren Copeland. Once an actress with a stable career, Maren found herself ostracized for trying to help the guy that captured America’s heart. Blacklisted from acting, Maren had to fight her way to the top once more. It took years for Maren to finally climb out from under that dark cloud, and now her time to shine was here. What Maren didn’t count on was crossing paths with Salinger once more.

Determined to get a project off the ground, Salinger seeks out the one person that haunted his dreams through every stint in rehab. The woman that was the only shining light when his fame came crashing to a halt. No one said second chances would be easy. Salinger knows that his road to redemption will be riddled with roadblocks. Through the uncertainty and pain, Salinger is determined to find his redemption with the one person that was his guiding light through the hardest times of his life.

A Righteous Man is the latest release by Jay Crownover and it absolutely blew me away. Second chances are always the stories that pull at your heart, but this novel took the cake. As I found myself captured by the unusual nature of the relationship between Salinger and Maren, nothing could have predicted the way the story ended. This novel truly captured the essence of second chances and redemption. Make sure you add this story to your reading list!

Maren Copeland moved to Hollywood at 19 and got a lead role on a show that was a success. Five years in, the producers hire Salinger Dolan, a 16 year old it boy and superstar. Maren and Salinger did not get along and he made life hell on set until she got fired. A decade later, Maren is still acting and has made a comeback all while dealing with her vile ex-husband. Salinger became rich and famous at young age, with no parental supervision, he went down the wrong path of drugs and alcohol. Now a decade after butting heads with Maren, he needs her to be the new lead actress in his new movie. Salinger is an addict, he's been sober for about a year and a half and he's written an incredible script with only Maren in mind to star in. Maren hates Salinger and she wants nothing to do with him but she loves his script. I really loved this book, Salinger was not only looking for forgiveness from Maren but forgiveness from himself as well. I loved his relationship with his brother Jeno, they had an unbreakable bond and Jeno was the only one who would hold Salinger accountable. Maren was a bit jaded by Hollywood and what happened with her career in the past but Salinger was determined to prove to her that he'd changed. Maren and Salinger had incredible chemistry and he didn't care about their 10 year age gap, he went for it. Working on a movie together and sleeping together was easier than both of them ever thought it would be. With Maren, Salinger finally found peace and acceptance and with Salinger, Maren found the love she always knew was out there for her.

Salinger Dolan's story hit me straight in the feels. This young man who failed in the most public and catastrophic way has, worked to become a better man. His path to self-redemption includes earning the forgiveness of those he hurt with the selfish and careless actions in his youth.

Maren Copeland is one of those people Salinger Dolan requires forgiveness from. She has worked hard to rise from the wreckage that was left of her career after she inserted herself into his world while trying to do right by him. Because his world was a destructive place, her good deed did not go unpunished.

What happens when their worlds collide ten years later is pure magic. Salinger and Maren's journey is one of forgiveness, reconciliation, discovery, and love. They each discover these not only for the other, but also for themselves.

From the opening lines, this book is magnetic. I was tranfixed for hours reading and absorbing the very real life emotions of the characters. The nuances Jay Crownover uses to tell this story are magnificent and haunting.

This novel is a standalone, but I hope it is not the end. There are so many layers to this book and its characters. There are secondary characters whose stories I need know. I loved every angst-filled moment I spent reading A Righteous Man.

It’s no secret that Jay Crownover is one of my favorite authors. She had me at Rule years ago, and I’ve never looked back. (If you haven’t read her Marked Men series, drop what you’re doing and do read them all like right now! Then you can thank me and keep reading more Jay Crownover books.) Needless to say, she’s also one of my automatic 1-click authors. Most of the time, I snatch her books up via pre-order on release day, but occasionally I let one sit on my TBR for a bit because I do have to adult every once in a while. Such is the tale of A Righteous Man. I’m kind of kicking myself now for letting it sit for so long.

This book is an age-gap, opposites-attract, second-chance romance. I’m not always a fan of age-gap romance stories. But it’s one of Jay’s books, and I’ve yet to be disappointed, so I dove in. And kept turning the pages until it was about 3 am and I was at the end. Maren and Salinger’s story pulled me into their world from the very first chapter as both of their worlds were seemingly falling apart. I was hooked and desperately wanted to know how it all was redeemed. Their road was rocky, and turbulent, and challenging. But these characters were not weak or meek by any stretch of the imagination. Both were knocked down by different circumstances more than once, yet they pulled themselves up by the bootstraps, determined to do better, be better, and triumph. This book ends with a very HEA, so there’s no cliffhanger or open plots for further books. It’s a true stand-alone title.

It’s hard to put Jay’s writing into a box and label it one thing. Just when you think you’ve done so, she throws you a giant curveball you have no choice but to chase because you’re already hooked on her writing. And once again, I can say that I’ve yet to be disappointed in any book she’s written, so if you’ve never given her a chance, this is a great place to start.

NICUnurse’s Rating: I give A Righteous Man by Jay Crownover 5 out of 5 stars!

Loved this

Okay, it's kind of hard to focus on this book right now, because at the end there's a glimpse of a future book I wasn't sure would ever happen and I'm so pumped omg! But ok...ok...deep breath and focus.

I loved Salinger and Maren. It was a great redemption love story, with movie stars, an age gap, and a recovering addict. This balanced between heavy and not. And I like that both of them aren't your typical romance go to characters. She's kind of cold and closed off and untrusting. He's tattooed and slim with a rough past. There are a couple stars he reminded me of. I like the honest connection these two built and how important trust was. And the end made me cry.

They got what they deserved.

This was different but at the same time so her. I could pick her writing style out with just a page of dialogue. I started and finished this book in a day. It kept me captivated from the first sentence.

I am kind of hoping you know who and you also know who (or will after you read it) also get a book. You kept one of them mysterious enough to make it so. Also the sneak peek at the end! Yay! Not who I expected but still so excited to see what you've come up with for this new chapter.

In true Crownover style, A Righteous Man is show-stopping!

Salinger Dole and Maren Copeland worked together 10 years before under the lights of Hollywood where an up and coming kid made her life miserable.

Now 10 years later, Salinger is back and after swearing, she would never work with him again, Maren is looking at Salinger and seeing him for what he has become instead of the brat that he was.

10 years, sobriety and a whole lot of growing up has Maren looking at Salinger in a different kind of light! A light where maybe this time they share the spotlight!

A character-driven story, with Crownover's perfect opposite attract writing style that will keep the pages turning!

Utter Show-stopping Perfection!!
