HARRY CHARRAN: From the Cane Field to the Book Store

Rate this book
This book recounts the legacy of a larger than life man Harry Charran and his contribution to the development of Trinidad and Tobago through agriculture, culture, religion, family life and business. The life of Harry Charran is set against the backdrop of his growing up in the plains of Caroni and the business world of the East-West corridor. Born in 1936, the young Harry worked and struggled along with his parents to ensure that his siblings received a secondary education although he himself was denied such an education. Despite this apparent setback, Harry defied the odds and rose from obscurity to build the Charran’s Empire which has become a household name in the country. He bonded very well in his interactions with the business world, the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary club and most importantly, with his customers and his family and friends. His humility, philanthropy and family values won him the respect and admiration of his peers, friends, family and all those who came into contact with him. Harry’s humble beginnings, his self- propelled ascent in the business world and unstinting support for his fellow men make this book a must read for persons interested in learning about the legacy of a man who helped shaped the educational, cultural, economic and social landscape of Trinidad and Tobago.
