Part of the Dark Place collection of six short stories, Preyed Upon is a real page turner, that sent shivers down my spine, as I read into the night. Although I’ve only awarded 4 stars, due to errors that distracted me, I’m already looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
I received a free ARC of this book for an honest review. This one took me a bit longer to get into than I anticipated as I've already read a fair few of Nadia Siddiqui's books. Once I did get into it I was hooked and wasn't expecting the twist and the end! A good read to persevere with

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written mystery book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters & facts to keep track of. This could also make another great mystery movie, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an amazingly easy rating of 5 stars.

Best short story yet! What an absolute breath taking action packed thriller. Short story or not, this book grabs you and doesn’t let go until the very last page ending with a surprising and “oh my god” result. If this has anything to go by this awe-inspiring “Dark Series collections” are going to be at the top of my, to read list. This story is about a Tori Whitfield who wants to become a cop after her sister Amanda disappears without a trace presumably dead with too may un-answered questions. What appears to be a unconcerned husband, being let down by the Lt Lory the police officer who carried out the investigating her disappearance followed then by threats from persons unknown to drop her search and investigations of her sister. The story slowly builds and develops into intriguing and very intensive cop thriller. This may be a short story but it isn’t really it feels like a full length story that just keeps you deep in thought and is just addictive. John‘s writing is descriptive, tight tense and all that it should be to hold one’s attention and ask for more. I loved his writing style and I will be looking for his next book in this series for sure!

This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
This is an astounding short story. It is well plotted, beautifully told about a sister looking for her missing sister who is married and has two young daughters. Giving up on the local police department she gives up her job as a school counselor, enrolls in the Police Academy and is going to find her sister, herself. But she is getting threats and almost killed by someone who wants her to just give up the case and let the police do their job. Lots of excitement, twists and turns and just a jolly fun read! Will look for more books by John!
Another fast packing adventure crime story! John's books never disappoints me! This author has mystery and crime adventures all you could ask for and he has you sitting on the edge of your seat and can't read fast enough to find out what happens! I like his stories cause it's short, but he gets his point across! The characters in this story are so very well portrayed and believable! Look forward to more stories!!
Preyed Upon (Dark Place collection), my fourth read from author Nadia Siddiqui. As good as her Anonymous shorts are, this is as good or better! Another 90-Minute (or less) Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Short Read. I really liked it. In fact, after reading this book I look forward to reading more from this author. "I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
In the search to find her missing sister, Tori leaves her teaching job to become a cop. For being a short story, it had a lot to say. Well written, fast paced, and believable characters. A good story to read before bed, relaxing and enjoyable. The ending was a surprise! I received this book in exchange of an honest review.
Not very good at all. The writing was more tell than show with long, winding sentences. The idea was good, but very poor execution. The author seemed to have some very strong opinions that they tried to express through the characters and it came off very rantish. Would have been a much better story with a bit of editing.
Great story, told with skill and brevity. Possibly could have benefited from extra proofing (Wills/Mills, "you're" - possessive) but I want to read more from this author.
What would you do to find your sister? How far would you go? Would you turn your whole world upside down? Tori loves her sister but has she gone too far? Read this intense story and judge for yourself. I was given this as a free book and this is my honest opinion.
Enjoyed this book very much. I was twisted trying to figure out what really happened. The one person I really thought was guilty, was not. Guess I’m not much of a detective. Love all Nadia Siddiqui books
I absolutely loved this book. The main character reminded me of myself when I went through the police academy. This was a book with such a surprising twist.
Well written, good characters, easy to read. I believe this book to be the start of a good series. I received this book as an arc and wanted to give an honest review.
The story sheds light on our main protagonist Tori Whitefield and her sister Amanda. One day, Amanda goes missing while out shopping with her mother and twin daughters with no trace at all. Soon after 7 months, Toru feels the police department might not have investigated her sister's case they way they should've had and so she she decides to become one and do that herself. Her primary suspect, Amanda's husband is soon proven innocent and she feels lost in her way. She receives death threats from an unknown masked stranger telling to drop her investigations for the case. The story is slow paced at some points yet the events are interesting. Moreover, the writing style and the twists at the end made the plot engaging . Thanks to the author for sending me an ARC copy of the book in exchange of an honest review .
