What a way to end a series! I LOVED the ending. SO good and it felt like everything came to a great arc. I Found this whole series to be very professionally researched and I loved the attention to historical that JP Robinson interwove throughout the story (really the whole series). He combined it with a wonderful sense of adventure, suspense, and faith, a trifecta in my book. All the while not shying away from the realities of the time period and the not-so-great things that happened. I did enjoy the conclusion to some of the characters storylines, and thought it was a good finish to the series that many historical novels lack.
I give it 4 out of 5 stars!

I can honestly say I've never read a Christian historical fiction series like the Northshire Heritage series before. JP Robinson, I applaud you! You have a forever fan in me, and cannot wait to get my hands on more of your novels. The depth of the character-driven books are unmatched, the levels of not only what is historically occurring, but also what is transpiring inside each individual is incredible.
In the Dead of Night again picks up where book two ends, continuing the saga of the Great War, and the many players that are wrapped up in its evil snares. The deep study that must've transpired to bring to life such a sad commentary is apparent, as we witness the ravages of war.
One thing I haven't mentioned in my previous reviews of this series is the faith aspect. I love seeing the principles of the Christian faith being fleshed out, showing that no one is perfect, and that God's grace abounds, even during a war that is killing thousands, and bringing about pain, sorrow, and suffering. Such a beautiful picture! I especially love the author's notes at the end that go into greater detail for his motivations. Very inspiring!
I hated to see this incredible story end, and barely put the book down, devouring the pages, but feel so incredibly privileged to be able to read this remarkable series. The action, the drama, and the faith all intertwined so perfectly made me sigh with contentment. I wish all novels could be this satisfying to read and am thankful to JP Robinson and his unparalleled storytelling.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of each book which I read through Kindle Unlimited for JustRead Tours. All views and opinions are completely honest, and my own.
The Northshire Heritage series is written by JP Robinson. It is a series of 3 books that have a Christian Historical Suspense Theme. I have not read anything previously by this author. The series will follow the Steele family during the Great War. The author did a wonderful job in creating characters and their back stories and introducing them. I felt like I knew all of them through out the series. I would recommend reading them in order, as I have been able to do so that you can get the full effect.
The third and final book, In the Dead of the Night was an excellent way to wrap up the series. Leila is forced back into the shadows after her child is kidnapped. The Great War is starting to wind down - but there has been so much death and destruction with all of it. Lives have been changed, people changed forever. We see the full restoration of some things. We see faith unwavering in some characters.
The author has done a great job in research with this series. As a history major, I love seeing history come to life through characters. I was able to read through these quickly and easily. This was a great series and I am so thankful to be able to read it.
I received a copy of these books through JustRead Publicity Tours, All thoughts are my own.
In The Dead Of The Night by J P Robinson is a thrilling conclusion to the Northshire Heritage trilogy. In this final book we witness the last few weeks of war with the Armistice in November 1918 and through to the signing of the Treaty Of Versailles in June 1919. The themes and actions begun in the first book speed towards the conclusion. You need to read the books in order. There continues to be trust issues as spies and agents on both sides try to influence the tides of war and of peace. Loyalties are tested and old scores need to be settled. The whole series has been very thorough, comprehensive and exciting. J P Robinson has clearly researched World War I in detail, introducing real life figures into his fictional tale. The historian in me was satisfied and the reader in me was entertained. Northshire Heritage is a marvellous series for the World War I reader. I received a free copy from Just Read Tours. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
Darkness gathers in the final days of the Great War as the Germans plot to unleash a weapon that will plunge the Allied world into obscurity. For the Steele family, the stakes have never been higher. Leila is forced back into the shadows when the leader of a German spy ring kidnaps her child, jeopardizing Europe’s fragile bid for peace. Meanwhile, Malcolm fights to keep Northshire Estate as his father stands trial for treason against the British empire. Confronted with overwhelming circumstances from their past, the Steeles must rely on their grit and faith to conquer the night. But will it be enough? The Abhorchdienst (i.e. "Listening Bureau") was a German code-breaking bureau which operated during the final years of the First World War. It was established in 1916 and was composed mainly of mathematicians. After his first wife's suicide, chemist Fritz Haber remarried for the second time to his mistress Charlotte Nathan in 1917.They had 2 children. But their marriage was highly conflictive, and they divorced a decade later.Fritz's life postwar was in shambles. He found himself ostracised from the scientific community because he developed poison gas.He was also the target of the rising Nazi regime since he was Jewish,he died in 1934. During both World Wars,Switzerland maintained armed neutrality, and was not invaded by its neighbors, in part because of its topography, primarily mountainous. Consequently, it was of considerable interest to belligerent states as the scene for diplomacy, espionage, and commerce, as well as being a safe haven for refugees. Arthur Hoffmann was a Swiss politician.Arthur Hoffmann was elected to the Federal Council on 4 April 1911 and resigned on 19 June 1917 as a result of the Grimm–Hoffmann Affair which seriously questioned Switzerland's neutrality. In the Dead of the Night by J.P. Robinson is Christian Historical Thriller Fiction set in World War I Europe. This novel is the third in the Series A Northshire Heritage (Stories from the Great War). The story is exciting with spies, war, suspense and action throughout. I appreciated the depiction of the struggles a Christian faces and the reality of living in this world. I felt a little lost at times in the storylines, overall a very enjoyable story and how it might have happened. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. I appreciate the opportunity and thank the author and publisher for allowing me to read, enjoy and review this book. 4 Stars
In the Dead of the Night has been a two year journey into the heart of the tumultuous end of the Great War (now known as WW1). After an estimated 200 hours of research and a major overhaul of the original plot, I'm thrilled beyond words to see this EPIC conclusion to the Northshire Heritage burst onto the world stage.
The plot is intense (as my novels tend to be), the characters are relatable, and the story has a message of hope that our world needs to hear. Read your copy on March 9, 2021.
This masterfully-woven historical novel is set during the Great War with a rich cast of characters, assassination plots, an infant held hostage, treacherous women spies, and a gripping tension-filled trial. Even a castle is at stake.
Especially interesting is are notes about some of the research the author did for this excellent series, and also about which characters are historical and which are based on real ones.
In the Dead of the Night is the fantastic finish to the action-packed, danger-filled Northshire Heritage series. If you like World War I fiction, I highly recommend this! I loved it.
Wow! Great book! So full of action and intrigue! Love the characters! I am so glad I found this author! I will definitely be reading more books by him!
